Katy Perry Has Hilarious Reaction to Running Into John Mayer at Sabrina Carpenter Concert: Watch

Due to a twist of fate — or maybe just an agent of chaos managing Sabrina Carpenter‘s VIP seating chart — Katy Perry and John Mayer wear seated near each other at the 25-year-old pop star’s Short n’ Sweet Tour stop in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

As captured in a clip circulating on social media, the two exes — who dated on and off for almost three years in the 2010s — crossed paths at the Kia Forum when the “Your Body Is Wonderland” musician filed into a row of seats directly behind the former American Idol judge. As soon as Perry saw him, her face froze in hilarious shock before she grabbed the railing in front of her, bowing her head to momentarily regroup.

She then turned around and kindly offered up her arm for a handshake, which Mayer reciprocated. Another video taken later showed the former flames conversing over the bustle of the arena.

Trending on Billboard

After the show, Perry shared photos she snapped with the “Espresso” singer backstage, as well as a photo of the “Roar” artist posing with her nieces. “soooo @sabrinacarpenter show was too short but so sweet,” she wrote on Instagram. “Thanks for solidifying my FUNTIE status with my nieces & for playing my fave song ‘Lie to Girls’ IT JUST KILLS ME CAUSE IT FEELS LIKE YOUVE READ EVERY GIRLS DIARY WRITING THAT SONG.”

Perry has been with her current partner Orlando Bloom since 2016, and the couple welcomed daughter Daisy in 2020. Mayer keeps a low profile but was recently rumored to be seeing actress Kiernan Shipka.

After first getting together in 2012, the two musicians split for good around 2015 — two years after collaborating on “Who You Love” from Mayer’s Paradise Valley and “It Takes Two” from Perry’s Prism. In 2017, Perry paid Mayer a slightly NSFW compliment by ranking his love-making capabilities first over both Diplo and, ironically, Bloom during a four-day livestream ahead of her album Witness.

And a few months before that, Mayer implied that he wasn’t done writing love songs about his former flame. Of his song “Still Feel Like Your Man,” he told The New York Times: “Who else would I be thinking about? That was my only relationship. So it’s like, give me this, people.”

Lady Gaga, Green Day, Travis Scott & Post Malone Set for 2025 Coachella Lineup

Coachella Valley is about to see an influx of Little Monsters roaming the grounds this spring, with Lady Gaga joining the festival’s 2025 lineup alongside co-headliners Green Day and Post Malone. Also listed on the billing — which was unveiled in full Wednesday (Nov. 20) — is Travis Scott, whose name appears unattached to a date alongside the phrase “designs the desert.”

On his Instagram, Scott called his upcoming performance the “first of its kind,” and according to a press release from his team, he’ll play the main stage on Saturday night.

This year’s two-weekend festival will run April 11-13 and 18-20, with Missy Elliott, Benson Boone, LISA, FKA Twigs, GloRilla, Tyla, Artemas and more performing on both Fridays ahead of the “Rain on Me” singer’s night-closing performances. The Saturday lineups will be led by the “American Idiot” rock band and also feature Charli XCX, Anitta, Clairo, ENHYPEN, Jimmy Eat World, T-Pain and more. Of Green Day’s upcoming foray into the desert, Billie Joe Armstrong tells Billboard, “Death, taxes and… rock n roll. In this world gone sideways we know one thing for certain – rock n roll is forever, and its spirit is needed now more than ever. So bring your rage, your hope, and your loudest voice. Coachella, let’s have the time of our lives.”

With Posty leading the Sunday shows, Megan Thee Stallion, Zedd, JENNIE of BLACKPINK, Beabadoobee, Ty Dolla $ign, Rema, Shaboozey and more will perform on the final days of both weekends. The “Psycho” musician previously let slip that he’d be on the lineup by including a pair of shows conspicuously slated for April 13 and 20 in Indio, Calif. on his list of Big Ass Stadium Tour stops, which were unveiled Tuesday (Nov. 19).

Tickets for the festival will go on presale at 11 a.m. PT Friday (Nov. 22), with attendees of the 2023 and 2024 festivals getting early access starting 11 a.m. PT the day prior. Interested music lovers can register for the presale now on Coachella’s website.

How MIYAVI Boldly Explored Duality & New Territory on His Latest Album ‘Found in Pain’

MIYAVI released his newest album, Found in Pain, on Oct. 23. This new album is a companion album to Lost in Love, which he released in April.

The theme running through these two albums is “Duality.” The albums mark the first time that MIYAVI has created a set of albums with a single united concept. They are also the first original album releases in three years for MIYAVI, who has been traveling around the world as a rock musician, actor, and humanitarian aid worker. With this pair of albums, MIYAVI has nimbly transcended his past public image, boldly exploring new territory. He has created an explosive and ambitious work that suddenly opens a new chapter in this artist’s life.

What led him to want to explore this theme? MIYAVI’s motivation lies in giving people courage, energy, and a zest for life, both through the music that he writes and plays and through his humanitarian aid efforts. His goal is to be someone whose path in life moves others to find their own strength to carry on. That’s why MIYAVI goes out on stage, a samurai guitarist, exuding the aura of a rock star. It’s why he makes such a striking impression as he plays his guitar, his powerful and energetic vocal delivery combining with his stage performance to excite the audience and elevate their spirits with his positivity. But while some people are receptive to that kind of straight-forward encouragement—to being told “you can do it”—there are also people who feel crushed by the reality around them. People who can’t put their chin up and push forward, even though they might want to. In his humanitarian aid work, there have been times where MIYAVI couldn’t simply tell someone “You can do it.” In these albums, he wanted to share the loneliness, pain, fear, and conflict he has faced as a rock star. He wanted to show people how he struggled with these issues and how he overcame them by grappling with his own weaknesses and overcoming them, discovering new sides of himself. By depicting this process, he wished to send out a message to those facing their own struggles. That is what led him to create these two albums.

One of the noteworthy things about the albums is that they use a lyrical approach that differs completely from past albums. What’s more, the music and sound of the songs, depicting subtle changes in states of mind, are unlike anything in his previous work. MIYAVI created the songs on the two albums by jamming with a prodigious number of collaborators, beat-makers, and producer. He has taken on the challenge of writing songs in previously unexplored veins. While Lost In Love has darker songs and opulent mid-tempo tunes, Found In Pain has everything from cheery dance numbers to full-fledge ballads. To convey subtle changes in states of mind using a storytelling approach, all of the lyrics on the songs on both albums are entirely in English. Another notable feature of the albums is that, along with these English lyrics, the music itself has a consistently Western groove, with no effort to include J-pop-like melodies.

Trending on Billboard

Even on first listen, the most striking aspects of the albums are MIYAVI’s vocals. Falsetto, multilayered harmonies, sultry vocals, whispered singing that is almost like speaking directly to the listener—MIYAVI’s talents as a front man are on clear display as he switches between diverse vocal styles not seen on previous albums, acting out the emotions depicted in the varied songs and lyrics. His talent can be stunning. The listener will find themselves thinking “Is this MIYAVI singing?” “I knew about the expressiveness of his guitar playing, but I had no idea that he had such emotional range in his singing, too.” MIYAVI has clearly awakened as a vocalist and singer on these two albums.

MIYAVI has been able to showcase his abilities as a vocalist, sharing his message through his melodious singing, precisely because he has so thoroughly established his identity as a musician through his main instrument of choice, the guitar. As if to demonstrate this, on these two albums, one seldom hears his past approach of singing through his guitar, or focusing on the kinds of phrases that would best highlight his guitar-playing. On these two albums, the highest priority is arranging the songs to best showcase the essence and flavor of their melodies. While on previous albums, keyboard parts or guitar parts by other musicians would be replaced by MIYAVI’s own guitar playing on the final song, on these albums, he kept these parts as-is when they worked well. It’s one of the things to listen for on the albums. The delicate phrasing and tone of MIYAVI’s guitar parts, and each of his performances, stands out with an even greater sense of presence, arranged with pinpoint accuracy.

The best way to listen to MIYAVI’s two latest albums is back-to-back.

The first album, Lost In Love, starts with “Intro,” which opens the gates to the darkness within ones heart. This is followed by “Broken Fantasy,” with its memorable head-shaking choreography. The hip-hop-styled “Real Monster” starts out with falsetto vocals before launching into rap. Then there is “Tragedy Of Us,” a song with a dark, heart-wrenching melody, followed by “Last Breath,” which, through its piano and whispered vocals, punctuated by MIYAVI’s lightning-like guitars, bids a farewell to pain, smothering love, and the darkness within. Heading into the second album, Found In Pain, the first track is the eponymous “Found In Pain,” which starts with a gospel-like chorus and evolves into a dance beat, like a phoenix being reborn and taking flight. On “You Already Know,” MIYAVI, Fender in hand, tells the true story of his own life, starting with his struggles as a teen. “I’m So Amazing” is a collaboration with one of the legends of funk, George Clinton. Later comes “Put Your Hands On Me,” a ballad with sensual lyrics and vocals. The album comes to an end with “One More Time” and “Sanctuary,” through which MIYAVI shares that no matter how his dreams might be dashed and his hope might be lost, his guitar gives him wings to fly, and every time he sings he soars up into the air. For him, music is a holy place. It is a place where he can rediscover his dreams and his will to live, bringing him face to face with himself and allowing him to discover new sides of himself.

One can only hope that this masterwork, in which MIYAVI constantly explores new territory, reaches the people who truly need to hear it, so that MIYAVI’s music can help give them hope and a renewed will to live.

Selena Gomez Isn’t Done With Music (Yet): ‘I Just Set It Down for a Second’

Who says Selena Gomez is done with music?

In a career-spanning cover story for The Hollywood Reporter published Wednesday (Nov. 20), the 32-year-old multi-hyphenate clarified her future plans following a banner year in film and beauty — including acting and, yes, music. “I think I’ve done just as much as I wanted to do in music, but it’s exciting because I feel like I haven’t even started in film and TV,” she told the outlet.

“I know I’ve been a part of some great projects and I’m really proud of them,” she added. “I like that I have to earn my position, and I love storytelling. So, I’m excited to do more of that.”

Even so, the Rare Beauty founder promised she’s “almost done” with her pop star career. “Music isn’t going away,” she said. “I just set it down for a second.”

Trending on Billboard

Fans have been waiting for a new album from Gomez since her 2020 third studio effort Rare, which debuted atop the Billboard 200 and spawned her first-ever No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Lose You to Love Me.” Earlier this year, she dropped the single “Love On,” a followup to her 2023 single “Single Soon.”

The releases led some fans to think that an album was in the works, but in an interview with Billboard in March, Gomez clarified that the two songs might not make her next LP’s tracklist. “I think objectively, I would like to say that I am working towards an album, but I don’t know if those songs would be on that project,” she said in March. “I feel like I’m brewing, and I’m in the process of really creating some great songs, hopefully. I don’t know if they would fit with what I’m gonna go with.”

In lieu of a new album in 2024, Gomez has been overseeing her Rare empire and mental health company Wondermind as well as promoting Jacques Audiard’s Emilia Pérez, in which she stars opposite Karla Sofía Gascón and Zoe Saldaña. “I genuinely thought it was going to be a movie that, like, came out in France,” she told THR of the film’s surprising success. “I was very confused. I was like, ‘Guys, why are we doing so many things right now?’ And everyone’s just laughing because it’s doing well.”

One person that’s been key through it all is Benny Blanco. In addition to producing “Single Soon,” the hitmaker has served as Gomez’s partner and cheerleader since they started dating in summer 2023.

“This is the safest I’ve ever felt in [a relationship], and I see a future with this person,” Gomez told THR of sharing pieces of their relationship on social media. “And when you put a little bit out there, people are not as hungry to hunt you down. Like, if they hear something, they’re going to, but if you’re like, ‘I did it,’ they’re like, ‘Oh, well there’s you, just going to Sushi Park.’ But there’s so much of my relationship people don’t see, that’s just mine.”

Prosecutors Reject Tory Lanez’s Claim That Megan Thee Stallion Gun Is Missing: ‘Demonstrably False’

California prosecutors are flatly rejecting claims made by Tory Lanez’s legal team that the gun he allegedly used to shoot Megan Thee Stallion is “missing,” calling the accusations about vanished evidence “demonstrably false” and “troubling.”

In a brief filed Monday (Nov. 18) in a California appeals court, the state attorney general’s office fired back at a recent so-called habeas corpus petition filed by Lanez’s attorneys — one of several forms of appeal he has filed seeking to overturn his felony convictions over the 2020 shooting.

In their brief last month, Lanez’s lawyers claimed that key pieces of evidence — the gun used in the shooting and bullet fragments removed from Megan’s foot — had not been made available to defense attorneys, violating the singer’s constitutional right to due process.

Trending on Billboard

But in this week’s response, the government said that simply wasn’t true.

“Without providing any documentary evidence or a declaration from either habeas counsel or a custodian of evidence for the Los Angeles Police Department, petitioner simply asserts that the firearm and bullet fragments have not been preserved,” prosecutors wrote. “Petitioner’s failure … is especially troubling in this case because the factual assertions are demonstrably false.”

The filing cited a sworn declaration by an LAPD officer that the department “still has custody of the firearm and the firearm’s magazine, as well as the casings and fragments.”

Attorneys for Lanez did not immediately return a request for comment.

Lanez (Daystar Peterson) was convicted in December 2022 on three felony counts over the violent 2020 incident, in which he shot at the feet of Megan (real name Megan Pete) during an argument following a pool party at Kylie Jenner’s house in the Hollywood Hills. According to prosecutors, when Megan got out of the vehicle and began walking away, Lanez shouted “Dance, bitch!” and fired a gun at her feet. In August 2023, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Lanez has appealed his convictions to California’s Court of Appeal, arguing that the judge allowed improper testimony and evidence, resulting in a “a miscarriage of justice.” He’s also filed two so-called habeas corpus petitions, a more drastic legal method for challenging a criminal conviction.

In the latest petition, Lanez’s attorney claimed his right to due process had been violated by the government’s “failure  to produce and preserve evidence.” They claimed that because the gun and the fragments were missing, they were “unable to conduct further testing” that might help prove his innocence, like searching for fingerprints or DNA of other possible shooters.

In Monday’s response, prosecutors argued that not only was the evidence available for re-testing but that doing so would not help Lanez overturn his conviction.

“The prosecution did not even rely on the DNA results in arguing petitioner’s guilt,” the state wrote. “Under these circumstances, it is inconceivable that DNA testing could undermine the entire prosecution case and point unerringly to innocence or reduced culpability, as is required to establish a claim of actual innocence.”

Kenia Os on Her Friendship With Bella Poarch & Juanpa in ‘Behind the Photo’ | Behind The Photo | Billboard

Kenia Os explains her friendship with Bella Poarch & Juanpa, her process with ‘K23’ and more in ‘Behind the Photo.’

Kenia Os:

Hi, I’m Kenia Os and we are ‘Behind the Photo’ with Billboard. In here, I was living in the studio in the 50/20 studios for my album ‘K23’ and I was looking at the lyrics, I don’t know specifically which lyrics they are, but surely one that remained. And nothing, the truth is that this session was very nice. A lot of songs came out and many of them didn’t make the album, but the best ones got in, I promise you. This photo is with my great friend, Bella Poarch. We were in Los Angeles and we got together to record content. We had just recorded our first song together. We currently have two. And nothing, it was very nice and we were recording content, TikToks, and we took these cute pictures with an aesthetic camera. Okay, this photo with Juanpa, with a great friend. We were in Paris for the Olympics and you don’t know how difficult it was to take pictures on this trip because we were planning to make a reel of photos for this trip. But the light, specifically, that week it was raining, it was cloudy, overcast, everything looked gray, but we put in some editing and put in a blue sky, but actually it was gray, it was super cloudy. But we wanted our photo in the Eiffel Tower very aesthetic.

Keep watching for more!
