Nickelback shared a video on Tuesday (July 23) defending the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine film from any hate. In the clip, all four members of the band rock Deadpool and Wolverine masks, though they soon decide that the costumes are too itchy and unmask themselves.
“We’re Nickelback, experts in navigating irrational hate in the face of tremendous success,” the band’s frontman Chad Kroeger tells the camera. “We have an important preemptive message for anyone thinking of criticizing the film Deadpool & Wolverine or Ryan Reynolds.”

Kroeger then begins listing off the film franchise’s list of accomplishments, including that the first two Deadpool films grossed more than $1.5 billion at the box office, and accolades including two Critics Choice Awards, four MTV Movie & TV Awards, one GLAAD Award, a People’s Choice Award, two Teen Choice Awards and many more.
“As for Mr. Ryan Reynolds, just look at this photograph,” Kroeger adds, before the screen flashes to a photo of the Deadpool star as Nickelback’s 2005 hit “Photograph” begins to play. “That is a beautiful Canadian man right there.”

Upon seeing the clip, Reynolds was overjoyed. “My god. I love those guys,” he said in response.
Nickelback’s video was a hilarious parody of a 2018 Once Upon a Deadpool teaser, in which Reynolds’ Deadpool vehemently defends the rock band after someone likened the Marvel franchise to “if the Beatles were produced by Nickelback. It’s music, but it sucks.”
“I’ve had it with all this Nickelback hating. You think that makes you cool with the cool kids in school?” Deadpool angrily says in response, before listing off Nickelback’s array of accomplishments, including selling 50 million albums worldwide, and an array of nominations and awards.

Jimmy Fallon cut straight to the chase when interviewing Ryan Reynolds on Monday’s Tonight Show, asking the question Swifties all over the world have been dying to know the answer to: Is Taylor Swift in Deadpool & Wolverine?
The actor’s response, however, might leave them disappointed (although, if you think about it, he didn’t actually deny it). “I wish,” he said, joking: “If I ever stop, she’d make a good Deadpool. She’s funny, funny, funny!”
Even if the pop star isn’t in the project, there will be other famous faces who make appearances. “We don’t really have cameos as much as surprises,” Reynolds confirmed on the talk show. “The folks that do show up in the movie — I have no idea how we’ve managed to keep it secret, given the Internet, somehow it hasn’t come out — they have beginnings, middles and ends. It’s not just like, ‘Hey, there’s that person!’ and we move on. They’re there for a reason.”

The interview follows years of speculation that Swift is involved in the upcoming superhero film, which also stars Hugh Jackman and arrives in theaters Friday. The most recent bout of rumors surged earlier this month when Reynolds appeared to re-create the 14-time Grammy winner’s Evermore album cover in his Deadpool suit. Before that, a poster for the project featured Eras Tour-inspired friendship bracelets.
But why would Swift appear in a Deadpool film to begin with? Well, the singer has been close friends with Reynolds and his wife, Blake Lively, for years and at one point borrowed the Free Guy star’s actual suit to dress up as Deadpool for Halloween. Plus, his character sported a T-shirt with Swift’s cats, Meredith and Olivia, printed on the chest in Deadpool 2.
“Yes, I had a T-shirt made,” he said of the tee in a recent SiriusXM Town Hall, joking that Swift took legal action against him in response. “I was sued. I lost everything in that one. And getting sued by a friend is tough to swallow. Also, she has just a lot of very, very powerful lawyers. I found out later those are just the paralegals. The real lawyers didn’t even bother with it.”

Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix live for the applause in Warner Bros’ first full-length Joker: Folie À Deux trailer, which arrived Tuesday (July 23).
In the nearly three-minute teaser, viewers find Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck institutionalized as he awaits trial for crimes he committed as the Joker. While there, he meets Quinn, and the pair embark on a whimsical and darkly chaotic musical journey that leaves viewers wondering what’s real and what’s imagined.
“When I first saw Joker — when I saw you — for once in my life, I didn’t feel so alone anymore,” Gaga says in a voice-over as she breaks through the glass of a store’s display window to steal a TV airing footage of Fleck in a jail cell.

The video then cuts to clips of mobs swarming a courthouse to protest the Joker’s imprisonment, and Fleck, fueled by the public’s support, defending himself in court. All the while, he and Quinn waltz to Frank Sinatra’s eerily cheerful “When You’re Smiling” in both glamorous outfits and tattered clothes. The end culminates in the two characters hosting a 1960s-esque variety show, both wearing their signature clown face paint.
“I got the sneaking suspicion we’re not giving the people what they want,” Joker says into an old-fashioned microphone, to which Quinn replies, “It’s OK, baby — let’s give the people what they want.”
The 13-time Grammy winner was first confirmed to star in Folie À Deux — which serves as a sequel to 2019’s Joker — in August 2022. The following April, photos surfaced of Gaga in her creepy costume filming musical scenes in New York City.
The trailer arrives one day after Gaga was spotted in Paris, fueling rumors that she’s performing at the 2024 Olympics opening ceremony. She’s also in the process of working on new music, having recently shared photos from the studio captioned, “Happy as ever making music … feel so grateful, heart is peaceful. It’s like meditation. I can’t wait for you to hear what I’m working on.”

First Madonna personally dropped by to show Ryan Reynolds and Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy how to use her 1989 hit “Like a Prayer” in their film. Madonna wore a short black blazer dress with matching ankle boots and sunglasses while her daughters both rocked oversized white jerseys, with Estere accessorizing her look with maroon pants, white sneakers and a matching headband, while Stella went for dark wash bell-bottom jeans and a white scarf tied around a robin’s egg blue baseball hat. Check out a picture of the singer with Reynolds, co-star Hugh Jackman and director Levy here.
The drop-in was not a total surprise, as Madonna’s 1989 hit “Like a Prayer” is featured in a remixed form in the film after director Levy got her personal permission to use the song in the threequel. In a recent interview with Jess Cagle on SiriusXM, Reynolds described how he, Levy and Jackman convinced Madonna to let them use the song.

“It did involve a personal visit to Madonna, where we showed Madonna the sequence where ‘Like a Prayer’ would be used,” Levy explained. “Also, let’s preface it with the fact that they don’t license — that Madonna doesn’t just license the song, particularly that song,” Reynolds added. “It was a big deal to ask for it and certainly a bigger deal to use it. We went over and met with her and and sort of showed her how it was being used, and where, and why.”
Not only did Madonna agree to let them use the song that spent three weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1989, but Reynolds revealed she gave some helpful notes as well. “She watched it, and I’m not kidding, [she said], ‘You need to do this.’ And damn it, if she wasn’t like spot on,” Reynolds said. “We literally went into a new recording session within 48 hours to do this note,” Levy said. “It made the sequence better.”
Deadpool & Wolverine opens in theaters on Friday (July 26).
50 Cent linked up with Drake in Toronto to talk about some film and television opportunities.
The Queens rapper posted a photo of the two on his Instagram on Sunday (July 21), with a caption that read, “Brainstorming last night me and @champagnepapi gonna get the [camera emoji] rolling biggest ting on your TV.”
Both rappers have made their mark in Hollywood. 50 created the Power universe over on Starz alongside Courtney Kemp, and Drake and his parter Future the Prince helped save popular British show Top Boy while also producing HBO’s Euphoria.
In February 2023, 50 Cent announced that his production company, G-Unit Film & Television, struck a deal with FOX to “develop scripted dramas, live-action comedies and animated series that would air on FOX. Any series created under the deal will be owned by FOX Entertainment and produced by its in-house unit, FOX Entertainment Studios, in collaboration with G-Unit Film & Television.”

Drake referenced 50 multiple times during his rap battle with Kendrick Lamar. First, Drizzy name-dropped the Queens rapper in his diss song “Push Ups” when he rapped, “N—s really got me out here talkin’ like I’m 50.” He also featured his very own replica G-Unit spinner chain in the “Family Matters” video.
In a since-deleted IG posts, 50 showed Drake love after hearing his diss tracks “Push Ups” and “Taylor Made Freestyle.” For the former, he wrote, “All you n—s got smoked by a light skinned N—a. Y’all better get high as a motherf–ker and come up with something.” And for the latter, his caption read, “Ok in my professional expert opinion on this matter, leave this man alone. I’ve seen this movie before, it will not end well. you disagree ok, then where is your s—t at boy.”
50 and Kendrick not only have a mutual friend in Dr. Dre, they also worked together multiple times. In 2013, Lamar featured on 50’s song “We Up,” and in 2018, he played an eccentric drug addict named “Laces” during the fifth episode of the fifth season of Power.
