Before the Internet took over the music game and streaming platforms became king, the street mixtape reigned supreme and all of your favorite rappers knew that was the best way to get their name out there and keep the block (and their careers) hot.

Now, Paramount+ is ready to debut a new film which centers around the mixtape game and the impact it had on the Hip-Hop culture. On Aug. 1, Paramount+ will give us OG Hip-Hoppers something to appreciate when they debut the Omar Acosta directed documentary, Mixtape: The Movie, which delves into the origins of the beloved Hip-Hop mixtape and the careers it made along with the fallout it produced thanks to money hungry music executives.

Featuring interviews from some of Hip-Hop’s biggest names such as Lil Wayne, Jadakiss, DJ Drama and KRS-One among many others, the documentary highlights just how impactful mixtapes were to the careers of up-and-coming rap stars along with rap superstars who used the mixtape scene to break new records that radio stations wouldn’t spin.
The doc will also get into how authorities got involved in the downfall of the mixtape game and ultimately screwed up a once thriving portion of the Hip-Hop game. DJ Drama recalled, “I’m being arrested for bootlegging and racketeering… It definitely made me more famous than I ever was.” Well, at least it helped his popularity, but authorities did seize all of his mixtape CD’s with no intentions of giving them back.
For those who don’t know, mixtape DJ’s used to make bank back in the day depending on what records they were able to break and who would break it first. Heck, mixtape popularity is what got 50 Cent back in the limelight and led to his million dollar deal with Shady Records in 2003. It really was an amazing time to be alive in the Hip-Hop culture.
Check out the trailer for Mixtape: The Movie below, and let us know if you’ll be checking it out when it hits Paramount+ Aug. 1.

Wynonna Judd is headed to Paramount+. On Tuesday (April 18), the streamer announced the country legend’s upcoming documentary Wynonna Judd: Between Hell and Hallelujah.

The feature, which premieres April 26, promises to give fans a vulnerable behind-the-scenes look at Judd’s life as she picks up the pieces, rebuilds her life’s work and embarks on cross-country tour to continue the legacy of The Judds after the tragic passing of her mother Naomi Judd last year. Along the way, country royalty and rising stars alike will make appearances, including Ashley McBryde, Brandi Carlile, Faith Hill, Little Big Town, Kelsea Ballerini, Martina McBride and Trisha Yearwood.

“It’s real and it’s raw. It’s celebration and sadness,” Judd said in a statement. “It’s all of the people who I leaned on during one of the toughest seasons of my life. I wanted the opportunity to tell my story in my voice. If doing so helps one person out there choose life, then I am grateful.”

Just days after its premiere on Paramount+, the documentary will be followed by CMT Presents The Judds: Love Is Alive – The Final Concert, which is set to air April 29 on CMT in the tradition of the mother-daughter duo’s classic farewell tour from the early ’90s.

Jason Owen, the CEO of Sandbox Productions who produced both Judd-centric specials, added, “The Judds will forever be one of country music’s most iconic and storied duos. Their original 1991 farewell concert was entertainment at its finest and being able to recreate that concert with Wynonna and so many talented artists is something I will cherish forever. Watching Wynonna fully embrace this tour to honor The Judds’ legacy was beyond inspiring, and I can’t wait for others to witness her strength in Between Hell and Hallelujah.”

All That fans rejoice. Dexter and Ed are coming back for Good Burger 2.
Yes, you read the correctly. A sequel to the 1997 film Good Burger, based on the popular All That sketch, is in the works and is coming to Paramount+.
Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell made the big announcement on Friday’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Production for the sequel begins in May and will arrive on the streaming network sometime in 2023.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, the film’s plot will “follow them as they reunite in the present day at fast-food restaurant Good Burger with a new group of employees. Phil Traill (The Middle, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Single Drunk Female) will direct the film, with Kevin Kopelow and Heath Seifert (All That and Good Burger) serving as writers and executive producers.”
In a statement announcing the film, Thompson said, “I can’t believe it’s been a little over 25 years since great customer service was born at Good Burger! Being a part of something so many generations of people have come to love has made me so proud, and now to be back where it all began working on the sequel is surreal! Love performing with my brother Kel and can’t wait to show the fans what these characters have been up to since we last saw them.”
“Ed is one of those timeless characters that has brought so much joy and laughter to fans, and it’s such a beautiful blessing to still be doing it after all these years. It’s super awesome to come back and continue the stories of Dex, Ed, and Good Burger for both the people who grew up watching and their kids,” Mitchell added.

Good Burger first gained popularity as a sketch on Nickelodeon’s sketch comedy show All That and subsequently turned into a film. It would gross $24 million at the box office, easily recouping its reported $8 million budget.
The movie became a cult hit with fans, with Mitchell and Thompson reprising their Good Burger characters on The Tonight Show for a 2015 sketch.

50 Cent is expanding his Hollywood hustle. Paramount+ has announced they are developing new show by him titled Vice City.

Deadline is exclusively reporting that the streaming platform has signed on to bring 50’s newest project to life in conjunction with G-Unit Film & Television. The series is billed as an original story from writers and executive producers Darnell Metayer and Josh Peters (Transformers: Rise of the Beasts). Additionally, Chad Stahelski (John Wick franchise) will serve as executive producer/director.

According to the media outlet, Vice City will follow “three friends and former soldiers, who return to their home city of Miami in the mid ’80s after being dishonorably discharged from the military for their involvement in the Iran Contra scandal.”

Apparently when they get back home they turn to a life of crime. “Disgraced, displaced, and forgotten by the country they served and with no good job prospects, the three friends partner with a mysterious Colombian immigrant, uniting their financial needs and criminal ambitions to form a heist crew. Fueled by the need for American green, they traverse a violent and dangerous path in pursuit of the American Dream,” the overview read.

Earlier this month, 50 Cent teased a new project of the same name leading his fans to believe he was working with Rockstar Games on a new installment of the hit video game series Grand Theft Auto. At this time, Vice City has no project premiere date.

In a watershed moment, it appears that both Tyler Perry and Byron Allen are competing to acquire the majority of BET Media Group.
According to reports, Perry has been involved in conversations with executives at Paramount Global with the aim of acquiring a majority stake in the BET Media Group. The operation includes BET and VH1 as well as streaming network BET + and the BET Studios production company. Allen, who is the founder and head of the Allen Media Group, has publicly acknowledged through a spokesperson that he was “interested in buying BET, and he will be pursuing the acquisition of the network.” Representatives for Perry and Paramount Global didn’t respond to press inquiries about the situation.

The 53-year-old Perry enjoys a good relationship with Paramount and BET dating back to 2005 when the latter network funded his first motion picture, Diary of a Mad Black Woman. Since then, he has been in partnership with Paramount on a long-term film deal that began in 2017. The two entities entered into a television partnership deal in May 2020. Both have been lucrative ventures, with Perry releasing several series to popular acclaim including “House of Payne,” “Sisters,” “Ruthless”, and “The Oval”
on BET and BET+.
The 61-year-old Allen and his company have been on a monumental path within the last couple of years, recently acquiring the Black News Channel for $11 million last year and lifting it out of bankruptcy. Allen’s company has also acquired The Weather Channel along with 27 ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox affiliate stations within the past three years with an investment price of $1 billion. Digital outlets TheGrio and HBCU Go are also under the Allen Media Company umbrella.
News of Paramount Global’s potential sale of the BET Media Group was announced this past Monday in an article from the Wall Street Journal. Reports are that the group is looking to make the move to shore up a planned initiative to rebrand the Showtime linear and streaming networks into its own Paramount + network, which was announced earlier this year.
