Vince Staples shouldn’t need an introduction to most readers of this space, considering the potency and ingenuity of his musical career. The Long Beach, Calif. native is now entering a new phase via a new television series, The Vince Staples Show, which will debut next month.
On Wednesday (Jan. 17), Netflix shared the official trailer for The Vince Staples Show, starring Staples in the lead role with Kenya Barris (Black-ish, Girls Trip) as an executive producer.

According to Netflix, the show centers on Staples but it isn’t clear from the early synopsis which version of the rapper and now actor we’re witnessing. What viewers should expect is Staples’ usual deadpan and biting humor and intelligent writing.
In the clip, Staples returns to his home and romantic partner to unwind after a long day. When asked about his travels, Staples neglects to share all of the several zany things that happened to him, including being involved in the middle of a bank robbery and duking it out at the carnival.
Created by Staples, Ian Edelman, and Maurice Williams, the show is said to be a “limited series of satirical tales” so we can expect some over-the-top visuals and storytelling for sure. If you’ve bore witness to a Staples interview, you’ll understand what we mean.
The Vince Staples Show is executive produced by Staples, Kenya Barris for Khalabo Ink Society, Ian Edelman, Maurice Williams, Corey Smyth, and William Stefan Smith.
The show makes its official debut on Feb. 14, 2024. Check out the trailer below.

Snoop Dogg has a new comedy movie coming out next year, but luckily for fans, they won’t have to carve out time of their busy schedule to see it in theaters as it will be releasing exclusively on Amazon Prime.

According to Deadline, The Underdoggs, starring Snoop Dogg, will be skipping the planned theatrical Jan. 26, 2024 release and instead go directly to streaming on Prime Video so it can be enjoyed in the comfort of your own home. Directed by Charles Stone III, the film follows a former football star (Snoop Dogg), who’s egotistical ways land him in hot water with the law, and he has to repay society by undertaking a new venture that’s sure to end up softening him up after it’s all said and done.
Deadline reports:

Written by Danny Segal and Isaac Schamis, The Underdoggs follows Jaycen “Two Js” Jennings, a washed-up former pro football star, who hits rock bottom and is sentenced to community service coaching an unruly pee-wee football team in his hometown. During the course of this, he may just turn his life around and rediscover his love of the game in the process.
The movie stars Tika Sumpter, Andrew Schulz, Mike Epps and George Lopez.
Going straight to Prime Video is probably the right call as we don’t see the film being a box office smash or even modestly successful to be honest. Maybe if it dropped in the late ’90s. Just sayin’.
The role itself should be a walk in the park for Snoop as the man was actually a coach in the Snoop Youth Football League back in 2005. An actual football star he was not, and we don’t think with that slender frame anyone would believe he ever was (no shots).
Check out the trailer to The Underdoggs below, and let us know if you’ll be checking for it when it debuts on Amazon Prime come Jan. 26, 2024.

Days after Godzilla: Minus One hit theaters and moved audiences to tears (it was quite the moving affair), Warner Bros. released the first official trailer for their latest Godzilla installment. And it looks like it’s going to be an action-packed monster mash-up of a movie.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire seems to pick up where 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong. Humanity continues to discover that below the surface of the world lies an unknown habitat where gargantuan beasts and monsters roam and are ready to make the earth their own. With a new red-haired ape the size of the Statue of Liberty looking to crown himself king, it’s now on King Kong and Super Saiyan-ish Godzilla to team together to stop the latest threat to mankind.

Months ago rumors began to swirl that a private screening for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom left much to be desired, and studio executives felt they had a dud on their hands.

Source: Warner Bros. / Warner Bros. Pictures
Still, the film is set to release this holiday season and yesterday (Sept. 10), a teaser trailer was released for the what many believe is Jason Mamoa’s final film as the King of Atlantis. Seemingly picking up where Aquaman left off, the teaser trailer finds Aquaman (Jason Momoa) in his full superhero attire as Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II aka Candyman) looks to inflict as much pain as possible on the defender of the earth’s oceans.

Armed with the mythical Black Trident, Black Manta now has the weapon he needs to get revenge on Aquaman and everything he loves in his quest for vengeance. Can Aquaman survive a showdown with an enraged supervillain who can now go toe-to-toe with him? Probably, but don’t be surprised if this film bombs at the box office as interest in this sequel is little to none at the current moment (no shots). So whether or not he lives by the time the credits roll, social media probably won’t be talking about it.
Check out the teaser trailer to Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom below, and let us know if you’ll be checking for this when it hits theaters Dec. 20.

Megan Thee Stallion‘s ready for her closeup Mr. DeMille.

After establishing herself as one of the best talents in the music game over the past few years, Megan Thee Stallion is now turning her attention to the silver screen in hopes of to taking Hollywood by storm as she did the rap game. Yesterday, A24 released their first trailer to their upcoming raunchy musical comedy, Dicks: The Musical, which features the “Body” rapper doing what she does best, rapping!

Centering around two businessmen (Aaron Jackson and Josh Sharp) who find out that they’re long-lost twins, the R-rated musical finds the two attempting to reunite their parents (Nathan Lane and Megan Mullally) so that they can be the loving family unit that they never had. Unfortunately, Nathan Lane declares himself “as queer as a three dollar bill and just as thin,” so their masterplan might fall apart before it can even get started.

Riddled with sexually explicit lyrics and hilarious ditties, the trailer promises, at the very least, an entertaining time at the movies if not a moving one. That being said, if Megan Thee Stallion doesn’t twerk at least once, we riot. We kid, we kid.
Check out the trailer for Dicks: The Musical below and let us know if you’ll be checking for this when it hits theaters Sept. 29.

Before the Internet took over the music game and streaming platforms became king, the street mixtape reigned supreme and all of your favorite rappers knew that was the best way to get their name out there and keep the block (and their careers) hot.

Now, Paramount+ is ready to debut a new film which centers around the mixtape game and the impact it had on the Hip-Hop culture. On Aug. 1, Paramount+ will give us OG Hip-Hoppers something to appreciate when they debut the Omar Acosta directed documentary, Mixtape: The Movie, which delves into the origins of the beloved Hip-Hop mixtape and the careers it made along with the fallout it produced thanks to money hungry music executives.

Featuring interviews from some of Hip-Hop’s biggest names such as Lil Wayne, Jadakiss, DJ Drama and KRS-One among many others, the documentary highlights just how impactful mixtapes were to the careers of up-and-coming rap stars along with rap superstars who used the mixtape scene to break new records that radio stations wouldn’t spin.
The doc will also get into how authorities got involved in the downfall of the mixtape game and ultimately screwed up a once thriving portion of the Hip-Hop game. DJ Drama recalled, “I’m being arrested for bootlegging and racketeering… It definitely made me more famous than I ever was.” Well, at least it helped his popularity, but authorities did seize all of his mixtape CD’s with no intentions of giving them back.
For those who don’t know, mixtape DJ’s used to make bank back in the day depending on what records they were able to break and who would break it first. Heck, mixtape popularity is what got 50 Cent back in the limelight and led to his million dollar deal with Shady Records in 2003. It really was an amazing time to be alive in the Hip-Hop culture.
Check out the trailer for Mixtape: The Movie below, and let us know if you’ll be checking it out when it hits Paramount+ Aug. 1.
