Former Nickelodeon producer/writer Dan Schneider fired back at the team behind the bombshell series Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV on Wednesday (May 1) in a lawsuit in which he alleged that the documentary series wrongly implied that he sexually abused the child actors he worked with.
According to the Associated Press, Schneider filed the defamation suit against Warner Bros. Discovery and other companies behind the investigative series in Los Angeles Superior Court, claiming in the suit that the show’s trailer and episodes deliberately mixed and juxtaposed images and mentions of him with the criminal sexual abusers spotlighted in the show with the implication he was involved.

Former teenage actor Schneider (Head of the Class) split with Nickelodeon in 2018 after more than a decade at the center of some of the network’s most successful, star-making shows, including All That, The Amanda Show, Kenan & Kel and as executive producer of Zoey 101, iCarly and Victorious, with the latter three, respectively, launching the careers of Jamie Lynn Spears, Miranda Cosgrove and Jenette McCurdy and Victoria Justice and Ariana Grande.

Trending on Billboard

Schneider took center stage during many storylines in Quiet, which interviewed the casts and crews of several of Schneider’s most successful shows to describe how the sets he was responsible for often sexualized their young teen stars in a sometimes tense, toxic work environment some described as abusive. The series originally ran on the ID channel in March and is now available to stream on Max.

Among the bombshell revelations in the series that spotlighted descriptions of sexual abuse of child actors was the emotional commentary from Drake & Josh star Drake Bell, who described his grooming and sexual abuse by former childhood dialogue coach Brian Peck; Peck was convicted of sexually assaulting a Nickelodeon child actor (Bell) in 2004. In the third episode, Bell graphically recounts the abuse he suffered at Peck’s hands when he was 14- and 15-years-old.

Other former actors on Nickelodeon shows from the Schneider era also allege that they were rife with sexism, racism and inappropriate behavior involving underage stars and crew and alleged predatory behavior. The show suggests that Schneider’s shows tended to put young women in comedic situations with overt sexual implications, while depicting him as an angry and emotionally abusive boss, including specific allegations of sexual harassment and gender discrimination form women who worked as writers under him on All That.

Among the allegations are that he displayed pornography on his computer in their presence in the writers’ room and often asked for massages from female staffers with the implication that they could help get the women’s sketches on the shows, which he has denied.

According to the AP, the suit claims “Quiet on Set’s portrayal of Schneider is a hit job. While it is indisputable that two bona fide child sexual abusers worked on Nickelodeon shows, it is likewise indisputable that Schneider had no knowledge of their abuse, was not complicit in the abuse, condemned the abuse once it was discovered and, critically, was not a child sexual abuser himself.” In addition to Discovery — parent company of ID and Max — the suit names the show’s producers as well, Sony Pictures Television and Maxine Productions. The suit claims that the series and its trailer unjustly implicated Schneider in child sex abuse by showing pictures of him, some with his arm around young actresses, amid discussions of what they said were unsafe environments on his sets.

The series claims that kid actors were made to wear suggestive costumes and act in inappropriate sketches with clearly pornographic undertones. All That actor Leon Frierson talks about his superhero character, Captain Big Nose, who wore tights and underwear and a prosthetic nose with matching noses on his shoulders.

“You can’t help but notice that it looks like penises and testicles on my shoulders,” he says in the series, adding that one sketch included Captain Big Nose blasting a giant sneeze caused by his allergy to asteroids, with the punchline consisting of him shooting messy goo on the face of a young woman. “The joke in that sketch is effectively a cum shot joke. It’s a cum shot joke for children,” culture writer Schaachi Koul says in the premiere episode of the five-part series. “Looking back, it’s very strange. Frankly, it was just uncomfortable,” says Frierson, who also describes that getting close to “kingmaker” Schneider could result in another level of success for the young actors. “It was important to be on his good side, and he made it known who was on his good side,” he says.

Nickelodeon, which was not named in the suit, said in a statement in the series that it could not “corroborate or negate” the allegations from two decades ago, but that it investigates all formal complaints and has strict protocols for shows starring minors.

Schneider, 58, was not interviewed for the series, but issued a YouTube video apology after the show aired in which he said he was sorry for “past behaviors, some of which are embarrassing and that I regret.” The suit is seeking financial damages to be determined at trial for what it described as “the destruction of Schneider’s reputation and legacy” via “false statements and implications” as well as the editing and removals of portions of the series and trailers.

“Schneider will be the first to admit that some of what they said is true,” the lawsuit claims according to The Huffington Post. “At times, he was blind to the pain that some of his behaviors caused certain colleagues, subordinates, and cast members. He will regret and atone for this behavior the rest of his life. But one thing he is not — and the one thing that will forever mar his reputation and career both past and present — is a child sexual abuser.”

In a statement to HuffPo, Schneider said the series “highlighted mistakes I made and poor judgment I exhibited during my time at Nickelodeon. … There is no doubt that I was sometimes a bad leader. I am sincerely apologetic and regretful for that behavior, and I will continue to take accountability for it.”

Drake Bell is coming forward about the sexual assault he says he experienced as a 15-year-old child star.
The Drake & Josh actor opened up on the upcoming four-part Investigation Discovery series Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV, set to air March 17 and 18, where Bell alleges that he was abused by a dialogue coach named Brian Peck, who worked on popular series like All That and The Amanda Show, the latter of which Bell starred in from 1999 to 2002.

Peck was arrested in August 2003 and charged with lewd acts with a child. According to a press release from the Los Angeles Police Department, the abuse occurred approximately two years prior at Peck’s residence, and that Peck was coaching the unnamed victim. He was sentenced to 16 months in prison and ordered to register as a sex offender in late 2004.

In 2021, Bell was sentenced to two years’ probation on child endangerment charges and 200 hours of community service for his conduct with a young fan, whom he met online and then in person, that spanned years. According to the victim, the former Drake and Josh star began contact with her via online chats when she was 12, with those communications escalating to exchanges that were “blatantly sexual” by the time she was 15.

Bell initially pleaded not guilty to the charges but ultimately reached a plea deal with prosecutors. He was convicted in June of felony attempted child endangerment, with a misdemeanor charge of disseminating matter harmful to juveniles.

In his response video, Bell stated that “I’m not perfect, and I make mistakes” and called his behavior “reckless and irresponsible” but disputed that he maintained communication with the victim over a sustained period of time or that he knew who she was during in-person encounters.

“I responded to a fan whose age I didn’t know. When I became aware of their age, all conversation and communication stopped,” he said. “This individual continued to come to shows and pay for meet-and-greets, and although I was unaware that this was the same person I was communicating with online, that’s what I pled guilty to.”

Ed and Dexter are back, whether you care or not. The latest trailer for Good Burger 2 has arrived and gives us a better look at the upcoming film coming to Paramount+.

In the new full trailer for Good Burger 2, Dexter (Kenan Thompson) and Ed (Kel Mitchell) have to save the fast food restaurant once again when the evil Mega Corp threatens to put Mega Good Burgers all over the country that feature robots as staff.

Word of the sequel’s existence first hit the web in March, and a teaser trailer arrived in August, and it was met with some mixed reactions.
Most criticisms revolved around the film being years too late and Kel’s “casket-ready glam” for Ed.
This new trailer not only reveals the film’s plot but also shows off the star power in it. In the trailer, we get appearances from mega-popular Twitch streamer Kai Cenat, Marsai Martin, and Rob Gronkowski, along with newcomers Lil Rel Howery, Jillian Bell, Kamaia Fairburn, Alex R. Hibbert, Fabrizio Guido, Elizabeth Hinkler, and Emily Hinkler as Cindy and Mindy, and Anabel Graetz as Ruth.
Returning cast members include Josh Server, Lori Beth Denberg, and Carmen Electra.
Good Burger 2 Is Banking On Nostalgia
Even though Good Burger 2 is not coming to theaters, Paramount+ and Nickelodeon Studios are banking on nostalgia, bringing back lifelong fans of All That, the Good Burger skit, and the cult classic 2008 film that was a box office success bringing in $24 million on $8 million budget.
Paramount+ also hopes the sequel will bring in new fans, and who knows, we could get a Good Burger 3 if this film is better or as good as the first movie.
We’re happy to see Kenan and Kel working together again. Good Burger 2 arrives exclusively on Paramount+ on November 22.

The first look at the long-awaited (and possibly too late) sequel, Good Burger 2, has arrived.
Good Burger 2, the sequel to the cult classic 1997 film, is coming to Paramount+ this year, and it looks to recapture that feeling of the original movie while luring in some new fans.
As far as the plot for the sequel, the logline for the straight-to-streaming film says it “follows Dexter Reed (Kenan Thompson) and original cashier Ed (Kel Mitchell), as they reunite in the present day at fast-food restaurant Good Burger with a hilarious new group of employees.”
Good Burger 2 was finally announced in March and came after both Thompson and Mitchell said they were both open to bringing back the beloved characters for another film. Per Variety, joining Kenan and Kel in the new film will be “Lil Rel Howery, Jillian Bell, Kamaia Fairburn, Alex R. Hibbert, Fabrizio Guido, Elizabeth Hinkler, and Emily Hinkler as Cindy and Mindy, and Anabel Graetz as Ruth.”
Other original cast members from the first film returning are Josh Server, Lori Beth Denberg, and Carmen Electra.

Before becoming a successful box office film, grossing under $24 million against a $8 million budget, Good Burger gained its relevance as a skit on the popular Nickelodeon sketch comedy show All That. From there, it would receive cult status, with Thompson and Mitchell reviving the characters for a skit in 2015 on The Tonight Show.
Mitchell also appeared as Ed in the revival of All That in 2019.
X Users Have Thoughts About Good Burger 2
Good Burger 2 finally getting a trailer and release date is a big deal, and X users are reacting. It’s a mix of reactions ranging from excitement, confusion about why it’s happening, and thoughts about Mitchell’s makeup in the film.

Will you watch Good Burger 2 when it arrives on Paramoutn+ this fall? Let us know, and peep the reactions to the trailer below.

All That fans rejoice. Dexter and Ed are coming back for Good Burger 2.
Yes, you read the correctly. A sequel to the 1997 film Good Burger, based on the popular All That sketch, is in the works and is coming to Paramount+.
Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell made the big announcement on Friday’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Production for the sequel begins in May and will arrive on the streaming network sometime in 2023.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, the film’s plot will “follow them as they reunite in the present day at fast-food restaurant Good Burger with a new group of employees. Phil Traill (The Middle, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Single Drunk Female) will direct the film, with Kevin Kopelow and Heath Seifert (All That and Good Burger) serving as writers and executive producers.”
In a statement announcing the film, Thompson said, “I can’t believe it’s been a little over 25 years since great customer service was born at Good Burger! Being a part of something so many generations of people have come to love has made me so proud, and now to be back where it all began working on the sequel is surreal! Love performing with my brother Kel and can’t wait to show the fans what these characters have been up to since we last saw them.”
“Ed is one of those timeless characters that has brought so much joy and laughter to fans, and it’s such a beautiful blessing to still be doing it after all these years. It’s super awesome to come back and continue the stories of Dex, Ed, and Good Burger for both the people who grew up watching and their kids,” Mitchell added.

90s Babies Are Excited For Good Burger 2
Good Burger first gained popularity as a sketch on Nickelodeon’s sketch comedy show All That and subsequently turned into a film. It would gross $24 million at the box office, easily recouping its reported $8 million budget.
The movie became a cult hit with fans, with Mitchell and Thompson reprising their Good Burger characters on The Tonight Show for a 2015 sketch.

6. Howling

The Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards know their audience. They know that their fans love nothing more than to see their favorite stars get slimed. And they know that kids don’t have long attention spans, so they brought the show in at a taut 90 minutes.

This year’s installment of the Kids’ Choice Awards that dates back to 1987 (Madonna and Phil Collins were the inaugural winners of favorite female and male artist, respectively) was held on Saturday (March 4) at 7 p.m. (ET/PT), live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Hosted by Nate Burleson and Charli D’Amelio, the show featured performances by Bebe Rexha, Lil Baby and Young Dylan, the star of Nickelodeon’s Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan.

Special honors were given to “King of Comedy” Adam Sandler and Transformers’ Optimus Prime. The latter award was presented by Pete Davidson, Dominique Fishback and Anthony Ramos, cast members from the upcoming Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.

A few artists turned their appearances into family affairs. Lil Baby’s kids joined him for a performance of his hit “California Breeze.” And hosts Burleson and D’Amelio were joined by their families on stage for a grand finale sliming.

Lil Uzi Vert also upped the kid appeal of his appearance by engaging in a drum-off with 8-year-old drumming prodigy, Justin Wilson II.

Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards 2023 will encore on Sunday (March 5) at 6 p.m. on Nickelodeon; Monday (March 6) at 7 p.m. on TeenNick; and Tuesday (March 7) at 8 p.m. on Nicktoons. The show will also be available on Nickelodeon on Demand beginning Sunday (March 5).

Here are the eight best moments from the 2023 Kids’ Choice Awards.

Rule 1: There’s No Such Thing as Too Much Slime

Sandler capped his acceptance speech by saying “Thank you for not sliming me tonight. I can’t stand that stuff.” He fooled no one with that remark. The sliming commenced right on cue. Chris Pine, slimed while presenting a clip from Dungeons & Dragons, said “You know, it doesn’t taste too bad, I got to say.”  Melissa McCarthy was slimed by her The Little Mermaid co-stars Awkwafina and Halle Bailey, in a dunk tank filled with over 1,500 gallons of the green goo.

Snub: Avatar: The Way of Water and Top Gun: Maverick

Both of those sequels received Oscar nominations for best picture, but they lost favorite movie here to another sequel with bigger kid appeal, Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

Surprise: Joshua Bassett, Dove Cameron Go Deep in Acceptance Speeches

You tune into the Kids’ Choice Awards for epic slimings, not for meaningful acceptance speeches, but sometimes you get them anyway. Bassett spoke at length about his Christian faith and how it has changed his life. Cameron spoke about how she grew up feeling she was an outsider. She told her young fans that if they too are sensitive and have deep, complicated feelings, “You just might be an artist in the making.”

Snub: Harry Styles’ Harry’s House

Harry’s House won album of the year at the MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 28 and at the Grammys on Feb. 5. It also took best British album at the Brits six days later, but it lost favorite album here to Taylor Swift’s Midnights (3am edition). Harry’s House and Midnights were released in different Grammy eligibility years. Swift’s album will probably be a major Grammy player next year.

Not Really a Surprise, but Noteworthy

Several of this year’s winners are probably older than the kids’ parents. It’s noteworthy that these performers and athletes have such strong support from kids even as they move through middle age. Sandler, who received a special King of Comedy award, is 56; The Rock, who won both favorite movie actor and favorite voice from an animated movie (male), is 50; Serena Williams, who took favorite female sports star, is 41; LeBron James, who took favorite male sports star, is 38. Even Swift is 33.

Not a Surprise, but Nice to See: Dove Cameron Gets Her Due

Dove Cameron won favorite breakout artist. She also won new artist of the year at the American Music Awards and best new artist at the MTV Video Music Awards. These awards make up for the fact that she was passed over for a best new artist nod at the Grammys. None of the other nominees here were Grammy-nominated for best new artist, either. They were: Devon Cole, GAYLE, Joji, Lauren Spencer-Smith and Nicky Youre.

Surprise: Harry Styles and Taylor Swift

To be clear, it was not a surprise that these megastars each won multiple awards. But it was a surprise that they didn’t accept their awards, even virtually. Kids are a big part of both of their fanbases. Sending a video wouldn’t have killed them. Styles won favorite song for “As It Was.” He’s the first three-time winner in that category, counting two earlier wins with One Direction (for “What Makes You Beautiful” and “Story of My Life.” BTS also could have sent in a video. They became the first four-time winners of favorite group. (They moved ahead of three-time category champs Black Eyed Peas, One Direction and Fifth Harmony.)

No Surprise: Olivia Benson Smith

Kids’ Choice voters are so fond of Swift they even gave an award to her cat. Olivia Benson Swift won favorite celebrity pet, beating out Dodger Evans, Gino Chopra Jonas, Noon Coleman, Piggy Lou Bieber and Toulouse Grande. That would have been a charming and very relatable moment on the show.

Lil Baby will perform his hit “California Breeze” on the 2023 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards. The show will air live on Saturday at 7 p.m. (ET/PT) from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
“California Breeze” debuted and peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 in October. It’s drawn from the rapper’s third studio album, It’s Only Me, which was his third album to top the Billboard 200.

Dove Cameron, Miranda Cosgrove, Dwayne Johnson (The Rock), Jenna Ortega, Olivia Rodrigo and Kelly Rowland will also appear on the show. Optimus Prime, Transformers’ heroic leader of the Autobots, will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Previously announced participants on the show, which is being hosted by Nate Burleson and Charli D’Amelio, include Bebe Rexha, who will perform her top five Hot 100 hit “I’m Good (Blue)”; Adam Sander, who will receive the King of Comedy award; as well as Awkwafina, Halle Bailey, Pete Davidson, Peyton List, Melissa McCarthy, MrBeast, Chris Pine, Anthony Ramos, Michelle Rodriguez, Seth Rogen, Michael Le, Bella Poarch and Lil Uzi Vert.

The show will simulcast across Nickelodeon, TeenNick, Nicktoons, Nick Jr., TV Land, CMT and MTV2, and livestream on Nick.com and the Nick App.

Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards 2023 is produced by Nickelodeon Productions and overseen by Ashley Kaplan, executive vice president, Nickelodeon & Awesomeness Unscripted & Digital Franchise Studio; Paul J Medford, vice president, Unscripted Current Series; Luke Wahl, vice president, Unscripted Creative; Jennifer Bryson, vice president, production, tentpoles, events & music & specials; and Ellen Rydzewski, senior vice president, celebrity, events & talent relations. Jesse Ignjatovic, Evan Prager, and Barb Bialkowski serve as executive producers, with Harriet Cuddeford and Andria Parides serving as co-executive producers.
