Much like the song from her latest album, Beyoncé is heated over the Internal Revenue Service which claims she owes them $2.7 million in unpaid taxes.

According to reports, the singer filed a petition on April 17th protesting a decision by the I.R.S. to serve her with a tax bill demanding that she pay $2.7 million dollars in conjunction with a Notice of Deficiency back in January 2018 over the matter. The documents of Beyoncé’s motion include her stating that the I.R.S. committed multiple errors in reviewing her taxes from 2018 and from 2019. The full detail from the agency’s billing claims that the singer owes $805,850 in taxes and $161,170 in penalties for 2018. For 2019, the estimation was $1,442,747 in taxes plus $288,549.40. The interest added to those figures totals $2.7 million.

“We are working with the IRS and anticipate that the matter will be resolved shortly,” said Michael C. Cohen, an attorney representing Beyonce’s legal team. The singer notes in the petition that if there were discrepancies that occurred, she should not pay the penalties because she “acted in good faith”. The petition also alleges that the I.R.S. disallowed multiple deductions related to her business income, including utilities, insurance, management fees, legal services, and professional services for both years. An example presented by the lawyers in the petition state that the I.R.S. disallowed a charity contribution of $868,766 the singer claimed as an itemized deduction. The charity itself was unnamed.
Beyoncé has donated to numerous causes in the past and present. She created the BeyGood Foundation in 2013 to assist communities with mental health, education, and disaster relief among other issues. She and her husband, Jay-Z, have also jointly made charitable contributions. The most publicized in recent times was tied to their appearance in a new campaign for Tiffany in 2021, where a pledge of $2 million was made to Historically Black Colleges & Universities.
The news comes as the 41-year-old is on the verge of embarking on a highly anticipated world tour for her latest album, Renaissance. The tour is already projected to earn $275 million, which will add to her considerable net worth of $500 million.
Beyoncé also counts her Ivy Park streetwear brand in her portfolio, which she fully acquired in 2018 through her Parkwood Entertainment company.

“In 2003, Beyoncé performed her hit single ‘Crazy in Love’ for the BET Awards,” Dijon wrote. “Her performance embodied the legacy and culture of Black artists from Josephine Baker to Tina Turner, James Brown, and Prince. The way she commanded the stage and led her band was transcendent. That performance secured her place in the pantheon as one of the greatest Black female artists of our time.”

She also noted that Bey’s 2022 seventh studio album was “another historic moment—not only for dance music, but also as a celebration of the foundations of Black music. From R&B to house, gospel to techno, hip-hop to vogue, Beyoncé wove a tapestry of music on Renaissance that celebrated all facets of Black music, including the immense contributions of the Black gay and queer community. Then she became the most-decorated Grammy winner ever.”

With 32 awards, Bey passed late classical conductor Sir Georg Solti for the most wins by anyone in Grammy history this year, after she won best dance/electronic recording for “Break My Soul,” best traditional R&B performance for “Plastic Off the Sofa,” best R&B song for “Cuff It” and best dance/electronic album for Renaissance.

“Beyoncé’s fearlessness, talent, beauty, and artistry will continue to influence and inspire Black female artists for millennia,” Honey Dijon concluded her message. Read it in full here, and check out the full list of Time‘s list of most influential people of 2023.

Beyoncé is changing the game once again. She has a launched an Renaissance inspired collection with Balmain.

As spotted on Hype Beast the Houston, Texas icon is leveling up her fashion game in a major way. This week she announced a new capsule that captures the essence of each song on her critically acclaimed seventh studio album. To bring it to life Olivier Rousteing worked with the singer for over six months to bring the concepts to life.

In a statement regarding their vision the French creative made it clear this is a historic occasion. “This appears to be the first time that a Black woman has overseen the couture offering from an historic Parisian house” he explained. “And those designs were created in partnership with the first Black man to ever oversee all the collections at an historic Parisian house. Let’s hope those two firsts help inspire plenty of others. Besides, I am sure that once in the house’s archives, these Renaissance Couture Collection designs are destined to inspire generations of future Balmain designers.”

The collection features an array of different looks and feels with a goal of being the wearable equivalent of each of Beyoncé’s song. For “Energy” they crafted a very intricate a Macrame gown made from a mix of multiple premium fabrics with Bodice embroidered black-dyed pheasant feathers. For the “Break My Soul” look they curated a shiny black velvet hooded dress that is paired with a 3D-printed bustier.

In an Instagram post Beyoncé shared her gratitude to not only the Balmain staff, Olivier Rousteing and Vogue Magazine for bringing the idea to life. You can see the collection below.

Months after cutting ties with Kanye West, adidas has parted ways with yet another big time celebrity. Their partnership with Beyoncé and her Ivy Park brand has come to an end.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, after five years of working together, Beyoncé and adidas have mutually agreed to go their separate ways. The news comes a month and change after it was revealed that sales for Beyoncé’s Ivy Park clothing line was down 50% and the three-stripe brand had been left roughly $200 million in the hole behind the lackluster sales. While the lack of sales could be blamed for the breakup, apparently creative differences between Bey and adidas are what led to the separation.

Now that Queen Bey is fully in charge of Ivy Park and is back in the driver’s seat, she “is excitedly looking to reclaim her brand, chart her own path and maintain creative freedom.”
There is no word on whether another sports brand will be partnering with Beyoncé to relaunch Ivy Park in the near future. But we wouldn’t be surprised if Puma ends up undertaking the process as her hubby, Jay-Z, is the creative director of its Basketball division. It’s something that just seems a long time in the making.
From The Hollywood Reporter:
In 2016, Beyoncé debuted Ivy Park, which was a joint venture with Sir Philip Green of Topshop. The 50-50 venture with Topshop ended in 2018, and Beyoncé gained full ownership of Ivy Park.
In January, Beyoncé previewed Park Trail, her latest Adidas x Ivy Park collaboration, in Dubai a day before she performed a private concert in the city. It marked her first live show in four years.
For someone who boasts such a dedicated fanbase and world-famous BeyHive on social media, we’re kinda surprised they didn’t come out to support her Ivy Park brand in droves. The collections were pretty cool, and the colorways were as fresh as anything out in the market. Just sayin’.
What do y’all think Beyoncé should do with her Ivy Park brand now that it’s a free agent? Should she fly solo or link up with another top-tier brand going forward? Let us know in the comments section below.
