“In 2003, Beyoncé performed her hit single ‘Crazy in Love’ for the BET Awards,” Dijon wrote. “Her performance embodied the legacy and culture of Black artists from Josephine Baker to Tina Turner, James Brown, and Prince. The way she commanded the stage and led her band was transcendent. That performance secured her place in the pantheon as one of the greatest Black female artists of our time.”

She also noted that Bey’s 2022 seventh studio album was “another historic moment—not only for dance music, but also as a celebration of the foundations of Black music. From R&B to house, gospel to techno, hip-hop to vogue, Beyoncé wove a tapestry of music on Renaissance that celebrated all facets of Black music, including the immense contributions of the Black gay and queer community. Then she became the most-decorated Grammy winner ever.”

With 32 awards, Bey passed late classical conductor Sir Georg Solti for the most wins by anyone in Grammy history this year, after she won best dance/electronic recording for “Break My Soul,” best traditional R&B performance for “Plastic Off the Sofa,” best R&B song for “Cuff It” and best dance/electronic album for Renaissance.

“Beyoncé’s fearlessness, talent, beauty, and artistry will continue to influence and inspire Black female artists for millennia,” Honey Dijon concluded her message. Read it in full here, and check out the full list of Time‘s list of most influential people of 2023.

Beyoncé is changing the game once again. She has a launched an Renaissance inspired collection with Balmain.

As spotted on Hype Beast the Houston, Texas icon is leveling up her fashion game in a major way. This week she announced a new capsule that captures the essence of each song on her critically acclaimed seventh studio album. To bring it to life Olivier Rousteing worked with the singer for over six months to bring the concepts to life.

In a statement regarding their vision the French creative made it clear this is a historic occasion. “This appears to be the first time that a Black woman has overseen the couture offering from an historic Parisian house” he explained. “And those designs were created in partnership with the first Black man to ever oversee all the collections at an historic Parisian house. Let’s hope those two firsts help inspire plenty of others. Besides, I am sure that once in the house’s archives, these Renaissance Couture Collection designs are destined to inspire generations of future Balmain designers.”

The collection features an array of different looks and feels with a goal of being the wearable equivalent of each of Beyoncé’s song. For “Energy” they crafted a very intricate a Macrame gown made from a mix of multiple premium fabrics with Bodice embroidered black-dyed pheasant feathers. For the “Break My Soul” look they curated a shiny black velvet hooded dress that is paired with a 3D-printed bustier.

In an Instagram post Beyoncé shared her gratitude to not only the Balmain staff, Olivier Rousteing and Vogue Magazine for bringing the idea to life. You can see the collection below.

Months after cutting ties with Kanye West, adidas has parted ways with yet another big time celebrity. Their partnership with Beyoncé and her Ivy Park brand has come to an end.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, after five years of working together, Beyoncé and adidas have mutually agreed to go their separate ways. The news comes a month and change after it was revealed that sales for Beyoncé’s Ivy Park clothing line was down 50% and the three-stripe brand had been left roughly $200 million in the hole behind the lackluster sales. While the lack of sales could be blamed for the breakup, apparently creative differences between Bey and adidas are what led to the separation.

Now that Queen Bey is fully in charge of Ivy Park and is back in the driver’s seat, she “is excitedly looking to reclaim her brand, chart her own path and maintain creative freedom.”
There is no word on whether another sports brand will be partnering with Beyoncé to relaunch Ivy Park in the near future. But we wouldn’t be surprised if Puma ends up undertaking the process as her hubby, Jay-Z, is the creative director of its Basketball division. It’s something that just seems a long time in the making.
From The Hollywood Reporter:
In 2016, Beyoncé debuted Ivy Park, which was a joint venture with Sir Philip Green of Topshop. The 50-50 venture with Topshop ended in 2018, and Beyoncé gained full ownership of Ivy Park.
In January, Beyoncé previewed Park Trail, her latest Adidas x Ivy Park collaboration, in Dubai a day before she performed a private concert in the city. It marked her first live show in four years.
For someone who boasts such a dedicated fanbase and world-famous BeyHive on social media, we’re kinda surprised they didn’t come out to support her Ivy Park brand in droves. The collections were pretty cool, and the colorways were as fresh as anything out in the market. Just sayin’.
What do y’all think Beyoncé should do with her Ivy Park brand now that it’s a free agent? Should she fly solo or link up with another top-tier brand going forward? Let us know in the comments section below.

After coming together with Adidas in 2018 to relaunch her athleisure brand Ivy Park, Beyoncé has parted ways from the sportswear giant, in a move that sources tell The Hollywood Reporter was mutual.

The split was reportedly due to creative differences between Ivy Park and Adidas, with Beyoncé excited to “reclaim her brand, chart her own path and maintain creative freedom,” The Reporter writes.

During what Adidas referred to as “a partnership of a lifetime,” Ivy Park launched several collections, with the first launching in April 2019. The drop was fully equipped with a massive PR campaign involving closet-size traffic-cone-orange boxes being sent to celebrities including Missy Elliott, Cardi B, Kendall Jenner, Angela Bassett, Ciara, Reese Witherspoon and Hailey Bieber.

Despite the glittery promotional content, Ivy Park apparently did not live up to the hype Adidas was anticipating when they initially promised Beyoncé “guaranteed annual fees and creative control,” according to a Wall Street Journal piece from February. Instead of producing the hundreds of millions in revenue that Adidas expected — the company hoped Ivy Park would perform similarly to Ye’s Yeezy brand — Ivy Park releases undersold, with roughly half of the merchandise from five of the six releases remaining on shelves.

The Wall Street Journal article also indicated differences in strategy between Adidas and Ivy Park when it came to marketing, with the German multinational corporation pushing for their own branding. At the end of 2022, Ivy Park was predicted to reach $40 million in sales, down from $93 million the year prior. Although Adidas was positioned to lose at least $10 million in 2022, Beyoncé was set to make the same amount in compensation as previous years: $20 million.

Beyonce launched Ivy Park in 2016 with Top Shop owner Sir Philip Green. When the partnership ended in 2018, Bey’s Parkwood Entertainment acquired full ownership of the streetwear brand. Despite the breakup, Beyonce has much to look forward to considering the frenzy surrounding her upcoming Renaissance World Tour, kicking off in May. The mega-tour has already caused mayhem among fans eager to see the superstar IRL and will begin in Stockholm, spanning dates throughout Europe and North America.

Billboard has reached out to reps for Beyoncé and Adidas for comment.

Donald Glover, and Janine Nabers, have a hit on their hands with Swarm. Ever since the Priime Video series—a psychological thriller that takes an unadulterated, unhinged and murderous lens to Stan culture—started streaming, the Internets and Black Twitter have been littered with hot-takes, reactions and theories.
As soon the series was announced, it was clear that Beyoncé’s “Beyhive” of superfans was the inspiration. To keep things extra spicy, the writers used real-life events to propel that story that follows Dre, portrayed by Dominique Fishback, an obsessed fan of a singer called Ni’jah who is clearly inspired by Bey (her husband’s name is Caché).
Sometimes playing things too on the nose can be a problem, but in the case of Swarm it makes for a wild ride that will have you saying “WTF?” to thinking “Ooh, I remember that!” on to pondering “How exactly is she getting away with all of this?”
As a crib sheet for viewers dissecting the series, we pulled some of the real-life incidents, which spawned some epic moments on Black Twitter reactions, that inspired some of the episodes. There are spoilers below, so tread lightly if you haven’t yet watched Swarm. What are you waiting for, though?

1. The Bite: Tiffany Haddish Said What Now?

Source:Getty
In 2018, Tiffany Haddish told  GQ that she witnessed some bit Beyoncé in the face at a party. The gossip spread like wildfire, with Black Twitter detectives trying to figure who dared to put their teeth on the Queen. Eventually, the culprit was revealed to allegedly be Sanaa Lathan (hence the Love & Basketball reference in Swarm). However, Haddish has said she never confirmed it was Lathan who took a chomp at Beyoncé. What a time.

2. The Elevator Fade

Source:Getty
Back in 2014, footage leaked of Solange Knowles blessing Jay-Z with the hand while in an elevator at The Standard Hotel in Manhattan. Swarm recreated the clip shot for shot, and also steadily mentions Ni’jah’s sister throughout the series. Black Twitter had a field day when that clip dropped, with many speculating that Jay-Z had done something dastardly. Which was all but confirmed by Beyoncé’s Lemonade album, which wouldn’t drop until 2016.

3. Rumors

Source:Prime
Speaking of Lemonade…
Let’s be clear, Dre is a fictional character. However, Janine Nabers has confirmed that the pilot episode was inspired by a rumor that a Houston woman named Marissa Jackson (portrayed in Swarm by Chloe Bailey) had killed herself after listening to Lemonade and being distraught about someone cheating on Beyoncé. Twitter trolls were even in going in on the poor child. But the kicker is that the rumor was based on a story from a satire site. So it was fake news.

4. Exit Stage Right – On The Run II Tour Stage Rusher

Source:Getty
Dueing the last stop of Beyoncé and JAY-Z’s  On The Run II Tour in 2018, an overzealous fan had the audacity to run up on stage during the Atlanta show. While in the series Dre, or Tony, actually got to kick it with their hero, the real-life Stan was escorted swiftly and efficiently out the paint.

Big Gipp feels a way about the recent GOAT rappers list. So much so that he thinks 2Pac would have landed Beyoncé if he were alive.

As spotted on AllHipHop.com the Goodie Mob member recently conducted an interview with Art Of Dialogue. In it he took serious umbrage with Billboard Magazine’s and Vibe Magazine’s “Top 50 Greatest Rappers of All Time” list. Their rankings had some very interesting surprises which naturally caused a stir online. The “Dirty South” MC expressed his frustration with Jay-Z taking the top slot and championed that 2Pac was more deserving of the honors.

“The only reason why you inching Jay past 2Pac is because he got God damn Beyoncé,” Gipp reasoned. “You take Beyoncé away then sh*t, bar for bar, yeah, he might rap better than ‘Pac. But ‘Pac came with the heart. That’s different, that’s just different. You can never beat the heart, bro. Some people can be technical, just like the difference between Jordan and LeBron.”
And he went on to further explain his position and also said Shakur would have bagged Queen B if he were still with us.
“If ‘Pac was here, who you think the girl would have been with? Hold up … you still can’t act. You can’t do no movies you can’t do what ‘Pac was doing” he said. “C’mon, how can you be better than ‘Pac? … that boy was a triple threat. He did groups that was successful, solo albums that was successful and movies that was successful, hands down partner. If he had lived he would have smoked everything walking.”

Lizzo is an OG Destiny’s Child fan. So much so, the star saw the trio perform at Walmart back when she was just in the fifth grade.

The “Good as Hell” four-time Grammy winner sat down with SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up crew this week, where she discussed her mission to tell Beyoncé, Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland about her attendance at the throwback retail gig. “It has been a goal of mine to tell every single member of Destiny’s Child that I saw them perform at Walmart in the fifth grade,” Lizzo revealed. “I told Michelle Williams years ago at Bonnaroo and I was like, ‘OK, one member down, two to go.’”

Lizzo went on to share that she told Bey the news at the 2023 Grammys, and then saw Rowland at dinner later that night. “Beyoncé was like [to Rowland], ‘Do you know she was at the show at the Walmart? I tell people we performed at Walmart all the time and they do not believe me,’” Lizzo recalled. “I was like, ‘Yeah, y’all performed at a Walmart on Dunvale and Westheimer in Houston, Texas.’ […] Kelly was like, [gasps] ‘You were there?’”

Adidas has released information that estimates the company could lose over one billion dollars after parting ways with Ye aka Kanye West, citing issues with moving previously manufactured stock as a cause.

On Thursday (Feb. 9), the athletic brand released a statement on its website concerning its estimated financial outlook for this year. It opened by addressing the company’s decision to end its partnership with the rapper last October, stating that it could lose $1.3 billion due to being unable to move the rapper and designer’s Yeezy clothing and footwear.

“The numbers speak for themselves. We are currently not performing the way we should,” said adidas CEO Bjørn Gulden in the statement. “2023 will be a year of transition to set the base to again be a growing and profitable company.” The full report discloses that $534 million alone could be lost in operating costs for the year and “accounts for the significant adverse impact from not selling the existing stock.”
Adidas had previously expressed plans to sell the remaining Yeezy sneakers under its own name at a discount, which would save them $300 million in marketing fees and royalty payments. That option does come with some challenges. “All of this work is extremely labor intensive and it can only be done one shoe at a time,” said Matt Powell, a footwear retail expert. “So, it’s very costly to go through this process.” Destroying the goods is another option, but industry experts have advised against such a move.
The news comes after the company decided to sever its ties with Ye after the “Father Stretch My Hands” rapper made a series of antisemitic remarks in interviews and online. Initially putting the “partnership under review” after Ye wore a “White Lives Matter” t-shirt. Adidas made the decision to drop him after he appeared on the Drink Champs podcast and said, “I can say antisemitic s*** and adidas cannot drop me.” It follows behind the news that their IVY PARK collaboration with Beyoncé failed to match sales expectations last year, with sales dropping by 50%, according to reports.

Sales for Beyoncé’s Adidas x Ivy Park clothing line might be down 50%, but that isn’t going to stop Queen B from dropping a new collection. In fact, she’s hyping up the latest drop.

Yesterday, the most winningest artist in Grammy Awards history took to Instagram to announce not only that brand new collection for Ivy Park is on the way, but it’s her “favorite drop to date.” Christened the “Park Trail” collection, the new line will be hitting the shelves Feb. 9. In her post, Queen Bey rocks some of the pieces set to release such as some blue cargo pants that apparently gives its wearers the mean grill. Coming with a matching sports bra and jacket to boot. We totally expect to see hella women looking like they straight out the ’90s come this spring.

According to Page Six, the collection will also be including “outdoor-ready styles featuring plenty of Ivy Park’s signature pops of color — in addition to a variety of camo-printed pieces.”
Real talk, it’s hard to go wrong with camo. Just sayin.’
Sizes will be available from XXXS to XXXXL and prices will range from $30 to $600. We’re curious to see what’s going to be costing $600. It better come with some tickets to her concert or something.
