Eric Andre Sues Over Drug Search Program at Atlanta Airport

Comedians Eric André and Clayton English are challenging a police program at the Atlanta airport they say violates the constitutional rights of airline passengers, particularly Black passengers, through racial profiling and coercive searches just as they are about to board their flights.

Lawyers for the two men filed a lawsuit Tuesday (Oct. 11) in federal court in Atlanta alleging that they were racially profiled and illegally stopped by Clayton County police at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

The two men, well-known comedians and actors, say officers singled them out during separate stops roughly six months apart because they are Black and grilled them about drugs as other passengers watched.

“People were gawking at me and I looked suspicious when I had done nothing wrong,” André said in an interview, calling the experience “dehumanizing and demoralizing.”

While the stated purpose of the program is to fight drug trafficking, the lawsuit says, drugs are rarely found, criminal charges seldom result, and seized cash provides a financial windfall for the police department.

Clayton County police officers and investigators from the county district attorney’s office selectively stop passengers in the narrow jet bridges used to access planes, the lawsuit says. The officers take the passengers’ boarding passes and identification and interrogate them, sometimes searching their bags, before they board their flights, the lawyers say in the lawsuit.

The police department calls the stops “consensual encounters” and says they are “random,” but in reality the stops “rely on coercion, and targets are selected disproportionately based on their race,” the lawyers argue.

Clayton County police spokesperson Julia Isaac said the department doesn’t comment on pending litigation.

Police records show that from Aug. 30, 2020, to April 30, 2021, there were 402 jet bridge stops, and the passenger’s race was listed for 378 of those stops. Of those 378 passengers, 211, or 56%, were Black, and people of color accounted for 258 total stops, or 68%, the lawsuit says.

Those 402 stops resulted in three reported drug seizures: about 10 grams of drugs from one passenger, 26 grams of “suspected THC gummies” from another, and six prescription pills without a prescription from a third, the lawsuit says. Only the first and third person were charged.

Those 402 stops also yielded more than $1 million in cash and money orders from a total of 25 passengers. All but one were allowed to continue their travels, and only two — the ones who also had drugs — were charged, the lawsuit says. Eight of the 25 challenged the seizures, and Clayton County police settled each case, returning much of the seized money, the lawsuit says.

Carrying large quantities of cash doesn’t mean someone is involved in illegal drug activity, the lawyers argue in the lawsuit, noting that people of color are less likely to have bank accounts and are more likely to carry large sums when they travel.

English was stopped while flying from Atlanta, where he lives, to Los Angeles for work on Oct. 30, 2020, the lawsuit says. André had finished a shoot for HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones and was traveling from Charleston, South Carolina, to his home in Los Angeles on April 21, 2020, when he was stopped after a layover in Atlanta.

Officers blocked them as they entered the jet bridge and asked if they were carrying illegal drugs, the lawsuit says. Both were asked to hand over their boarding passes and identification. An officer said he wanted to search English’s bag, and English agreed, believing he didn’t have a choice.

“I felt completely powerless. I felt violated. I felt cornered,” English said at a news conference outside the federal courthouse in Atlanta. “I felt like I had to comply if I wanted everything to go smoothly.”

André complained about his stop right after it happened. Clayton County police said at the time that it was “consensual.”

“Mr. Andre chose to speak with investigators during the initial encounter,” the department said in a statement posted on Facebook. “During the encounter, Mr. Andre voluntarily provided the investigators information as to his travel plans. Mr. Andre also voluntarily consented to a search of his luggage but the investigators chose not to do so.”

André said he felt a “moral calling” to bring the lawsuit “so these practices can stop and these cops can be held accountable for this because it’s unethical.”

“I have the resources to bring national attention and international attention to this incident. It’s not an isolated incident,” he said. “If Black people don’t speak up for each other, who will?”

One of the lawyers who filed the lawsuit, NYU School of Law Policing Project co-founder Barry Friedman, encouraged anyone else who has had similar experiences to get in touch.

The lawsuit names Clayton County and the police chief, as well as four police officers and a district attorney’s office investigator. It alleges violations of the constitutional rights that protect against unreasonable searches and seizures and against racial discrimination.

The comedians seek a jury trial and ask that the Clayton County police jet bridge interdiction program be declared unconstitutional. They also seek compensatory and punitive damages, as well as legal costs.

Kanye West Makes Anti-Semitic Claims & Slams Planned Parenthood in Unaired Footage From Tucker Carlson Interview

Kanye West sat down for a bombshell two-part interview with Tucker Carlson last week, and on Tuesday (Oct. 11), even more footage from the controversial sit-down came to light.

In one clip that Fox News left on the cutting-room floor, shared by Vice, the rapper reveals that he was vaccinated when questioned by Carlson about the COVID-19 pandemic and associated healthcare response. Later in the interview, Ye goes on a tangent about Planned Parenthood, calling founder Margaret Sanger “a known eugenics” (Planned Parenthood has roundly denounced West’s claim that Sanger was a eugenicist) who created the organization “with the KKK to control the Jew population.”

“When I say Jew, I mean the 12 lost tribes of Judah, the blood of Christ, who the people known as the race Black really are,” he went on. “This is who our people are: the blood of Christ. This, as a Christian, is my belief.” (Ye seems to be mixing up his Old Testament stories, given that it’s the 12 tribes of Israel, with Judah being one of the ancient prophet Jacob’s 12 sons.)

Ye’s fixation on Judaism didn’t stop there, though. The rapper also stated, “Think about us judging each other on how white we could talk would be like, you know, a Jewish person judging another Jewish person on how good they danced or something. The Yeezy designer also brought Hanukkah into the discussion when discussing his four kids with ex-wife Kim Kardashian. “I was biting my tongue on my political opinion because I thought it would be better for my children. And now you look up, and my kids are going to a school that teaches Black kids a complicated Kwanzaa,” he told Carlson, going on to vaguely add, “I prefer my kids knew Hanukkah than Kwanzaa. At least it will come with some financial engineering.” (He’s possibly making reference here to anti-Semitic conspiracies that Jewish businessmen puppeteer the global financial system.)

Elsewhere in the unaired footage, Kanye bizarrely made claims that LVMH — the parent company of Louis Vuitton — “killed” late fashion designer Virgil Abloh, that “professional actors” and “fake children” were put in his house to manipulate and “sexualize [his] kids,” and that the Kardashians “kidnapped” his daughter Chicago on her birthday. (Khloé Kardashian has already hit back at the latter accusation, saying that Kanye was actually the one who requested dual birthday parties for the now-4-year-old.)

Blake Shelton Announces He’s Leaving ‘The Voice’: ‘This Show Has Changed My Life’

Blake Shelton — who has been a coach on NBC’s The Voice since it premiered in 2011 — won’t be turning his red chair around for much longer. The country superstar revealed on Tuesday (Oct. 11) that he will be leaving the singing competition after next season.

“This show has changed my life in every way for the better and it will always feel like home to me,” Shelton wrote in a statement posted to social media. “It’s been a hell of a ride over these 12 years of chair turns and I want to thank everyone at The Voice from NBC, every producer, the writers, musicians, crew and catering people, you are the best. It takes a lot of work, passion, and adult beverages (Ha!) to pull off a live show twice a week.”

He continued, “I’ve made lifelong bonds with Carson and every single one of my fellow coaches over the years, including my wife Gwen Stefani!”

The singer concluded his statement by thanking the contestants and the fans. “It would not happen without you,” he wrote.

While Shelton will be departing The Voice, fans will get to enjoy his banter for a while longer, as season 22 is in the midst of its knockout rounds, and season 23 is just around the corner after that. As coach, the “Boys ‘Round Here” singer remains the statistically best coach in terms of winning seasons — having crowned a champ from his team in eight of the show’s 21 seasons.

In addition, NBC revealed its coaches for season 23, which includes Shelton and The Voice veteran Kelly Clarkson. Newcomers Niall Horan and Chance the Rapper will also join the judges panel.

Mark Hoppus on Blink-182 Reunion: ‘I Feel Like a Weight Has Been Lifted Off My Shoulders’

Blink-182 are finally getting back together. On Tuesday (Oct. 11) the pop-punk trio announced a reunion with former bandmate Tom DeLonge for an upcoming global tour and single.

While joining After School Radio on Apple Music Hits, the band’s singer/bassist Mark Hoppus shared his excitement over the news. “Yes, it’s happening. Blink-182, world tour, new music, new album. Tom’s back. Man, I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. That was a burden to carry that secret for so long,” he shared.

On keeping that secret, Hoppus also revealed a sweet anecdote from just days ago, when he was asked by a fan when a reunion would happen. “I was at the Dodgers game the other night, and a fan came up. It was a guy and his wife, probably late twenties, early thirties.” the musician recalled. “We take our picture, and he’s like, ‘I love your band. Grew up on your band.’ He’s like, ‘Dude, is there any way, any way at all?’ And I’m like, ‘Any way for what?’ And he’s like, ‘Is there any chance of a Blink-182 reunion tour with Tom back in the band at all?’ And he had such hope and desperation in his eyes, and I just wanted to put my hand on his shoulder and say, ‘My friend, just you wait. Just wait three, four more days.’”

Hoppus jokingly added, “I should have taken his name and should have just posted it on Instagram, been like, ‘This is for you Steve. Great idea.’”

Blink-182’s tour is slated to kick off on March 11 in Tijuana, Mexico at the Imperial GNP festival. They hit North America on May 4 with a show at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota, and those dates will run through a July 16 gig in Nashville at the Bridgestone Arena and then move on to Europe in September and Australia/New Zealand in early 2024.

The group’s new single, “EDGING,” is coming on Friday (Oct. 14), commemorating the trio’s first time in the studio in 10 years.

Maryland Substitute Teacher Fired After Controversial Tweets Surface: “Black Women Raising Boys, Please Stop Letting Your Sons Pick Up Female Traits”

A Maryland substitute teacher was fired after controversial tweets of hers surfaced, where she told fellow “Black women raising boys (to) please stop letting your sons pick up female traits” amongst other contentious social media posts.

The teacher, who is Black and was identified on social media as Bianca Robinson, also tweeted on Thursday that “kids need to be bullied” from her Twitter handle @mostly_hated, FOX 5‘s Stephanie Ramirez reports.

“Black women raising boys, please stop letting your sons pick up female traits. I have the b****est boys in my class! I know ya’ll have some men around somewhere. This s*** is getting ridiculous!” one of the controversial tweets read.

She went on to tweet that “kids need to be bullied because bullying doesn’t stop with childhood. How will they be ready for an adult bully?” Robinson was also criticized for what appeared to be blatant homophobia when she wrote she was “sick of schools hiring flamboyant gay men.”

“Third day of school and I already made another kid cry,” another tweet of her’s read. “These 5th graders never had a teacher from the hood I see. I won’t be spoke to in any kind of way. I will gather a child quickly and respectfully and still bring them to tears.”

She had initially deleted the tweet, however screenshots were later circulated online. Her account was no longer active as of Tuesday.

Robinson was a substitute teacher at District Heights Elementary School, however she has since been removed from her post after angry parents brought the tweets to the schools human resources as well as superintendent Kasandra G. Lassiter’s attention.

Detractors Criticize Teacher’s Tweets, Calling Her Mindset “Harmful” And “Not Needed”

While many parents were horrified by the comments, others took to Twitter to defend the Prince George’s County educator.

“She could have said something like, put them in mentoring programs or something like that, but for her to say something like that, it’s just atrocious,” parent Gabrielle Hill told FOX 5.

“The mindset is what’s harmful. She described children with the term ‘b****est’ because they have ‘female’ traits.

Weaponizing misogyny against growing children is harmful,” one detractor noted.

“If I went by social media, I’d swear nurses, therapists, and teachers were some of the most evil and/or stupidest people on earth,” a commenter tweeted. “This isn’t the mindset needed. We are going to ensure she isn’t working around ANYONE’S child. Period,” another tweeted.

Others actually showed support for her. “Y’all stay tryna get people fired,” one supporter wrote.

“Where is she and does she have a Cashapp we can donate to?” one person commented. “Are we talking about divine feminine traits, right brain traits? Because males have divine feminine energy within them,” another wrote.

Lizzo Makes Tina Turner Comparison In Response To Critics Of Her Mainstream Success: “I Am Not Making Music For White People!”

Lizzo is no stranger to critiques about appeasing white people. The way the star tells it to Vanity Fair–she’s heard it before. At her predominantly Black school, kids associated her membership in a rock band and flowery bell bottoms with “acting like a white girl.”

And even with her Grammys, Emmy, NAACP, BET, and Soul Train awards in tow, the 34-year-old singer is still hearing it! Lizzo tells Vanity Fair in a recent interview that “the biggest criticism” people give her is that she makes music for white people.

“When Black people see a lot of white people in the audience, they think, Well this isn’t for me, this is for them. The thing is, when a Black artist reaches a certain level of popularity, it’s going to be a predominantly white crowd,” Lizzo said.

The Bigger The Fame, The Whiter The Crowd? Lizzo Thinks So! 

Lizzo recalled being surprised at the white audiences filling venues for Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Tina Turner. She also name-dropped Diana Ross, Whitney Houston, and Beyoncé as examples of Black artists who have reached the level of fame at which large white audiences are the norm.

She says that even rap artists are starting to pack arenas with “overwhelmingly white” audiences. But her perspective as a Black woman is what inspires her music; the artist told Lisa Robinson–regardless of who’s buying her tickets.

“I am not making music for white people. I am a Black woman, I am making music from my Black experience, for me to heal myself [from] the experience we call life. If I can help other people, hell yeah. Because we are the most marginalized and neglected people in this country. We need self-love and self-love anthems more than anybody.

She added, “So am I making music for that girl right there who looks like me, who grew up in a city where she was underappreciated and picked on and made to feel unbeautiful? Yes. It blows my mind when people say I’m not making music from a Black perspective—how could I not do that as a Black artist?

 

Lizzo says the criticisms bothered her until she met Black women who felt seen and inspired by her music. In her words, she can “relax and have a cocktail” because she’s comfortable in the direction she’s moving in with her music. The more mainstream she goes, the more she finds those who relate!

And What About Her Bae? Still Together & In Love!

Lizzo isn’t the one to dish much on her relationship. As she told Vanity Fair, her dating life becoming “news” was bizarre, and she remains determined to keep most of her life private. But still, the artist gave a rundown on how things are going between them and if marriage is in their plans.

“I’ve known him for over six years,” she said. “He’s everything. We’re just in love. And that’s it.”

While she may be in love and not looking elsewhere, she isn’t necessarily guiding the relationship toward marriage.

“People fight for monogamy like they pray to it every day. I am not a polyamorous person, I’m not in love with multiple partners. That is not me. He’s the love of my life. We are life mates,” Lizzo. Do I want to get married? If I wanted to start a business with him, I’d get married because that’s when your finances come together. I like weddings. I would like to have a wedding over a marriage.”

An elderly California woman was mauled to death by two dogs during her morning walk in the latest incident amongst a string of deadly dog attacks throughout the country in recent months.

Soon Han, 80, found dead on the side of the road after taking a stroll in the Baldy Mesa area of the Mojave Desert on Friday Morning, when she was attacked by two Dogo Argentinos, according to ABC 7.

Dogs Responsible For Deadly Attack Have Been Captured After Leaving Her Lifeless Body On Side Of Road

The breed of canine responsible for the fatal attack is among several breeds that are banned in the likes of New Zealand, the UK, and Denmark amongst other countries.

The dogs were eventually captured and have since been taken to a shelter pending a dangerous animals hearing, the outlet reports.

Han “suffered major injuries during the attack and was pronounced dead at the scene, per the San Bernardino County coroner.

The dog owner was located and is cooperating with the investigation, according to authorities.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Humane Society of the United States, there are about 4.7 million dog bites every year in the U.S. These bites result in approximately 16 fatalities.

Dogos Argentino is a large, white, muscular breed of dog that was developed in Argentina primarily for the purpose of big-game hunting, including wild boars and pumas.

It was first bred in 1928 from the Cordoba fighting dog, along with a wide array of other breeds, mainly bulldogs and terriers, including the Great Dane, Dogue de Bordeaux, Pointer, and Bull-and-Terrier.

They have been described by the American Kennel Club as “large, powerful, and athletic.”

The deadly dog attack is the third of its kind to occur in the United States over the last several weeks.

Last month, an 89-year-old woman was killed by her family’s two pitbulls in Golden, Colorado, while her 12-year-old grandson was left severely injured.

Deadly Dog Attack Latest In A String Of Such Fatal Incidents Across The Country Over The Last Few Weeks

Officers used tasers and non-lethal shotguns in that incident in an effort to scare the canines away from her, but were unable to do so until more units arrived on scene.

Both of those dogs were ultimately put down.

Last week, two young children were killed when their family’s two pitbulls attached them and their mother, despite having owned the dogs for eight years.

Two toddlers were mauled to death by the family’s pet pit bulls in Shelby County, Tennessee.

Two-year-old Lilly Bennard and five-month-old Hollace died after the attack in Memphis, Tennessee.

Their mother, Kirstie Bennard, 30, was left covered in bite marks with severe injuries.

Those two dogs were also euthanized, according to authorities.

(Exclusive Details) Witness Says MS Teen Was “Moving In Slow Motion” With “His Hands Up” When He Was Shot By Police

The police shooting of Jaheim McMillan in Gulfport, MS, has left the community shattered and wanting answers. The Shade Room exclusively spoke to an eyewitness who was inside the Family Dollar store when police shot the 15-year-old in hopes of shedding light on what happened.

An eye witness, who wishes to remain anonymous, says McMillan had his hands up and was “scared out of his mind” when he was shot in the head by police.

Eye Witness Says Teen Had His Hands Up

H[is] hands were all the way up. He was scared of out his mind.

The witness continued to say:

From where I was standing, I looked up, and Jaheim was moving in a slow motion by the door of the store; then boom, I saw at least five shots go towards this boy’s direction.

Continuing to detail what happened inside of the store, the witness said:

The bullets were hitting all of the store windows and door, and it caught everybody’s attention. I just saw his body drop, and my heart just broke.

The witness also says they didn’t see a weapon on McMillan at the time of the shooting, which supports another eye witness who also said she didn’t see a weapon on McMillan at the time of the shooting.

He was unarmed from every spot that I saw on him. They continued saying, It was traumatizing knowing that was a child.

Our source also told us that McMillan was “handcuffed after he was shot” by police.

Events That Led Up To The Shooting

According to court documents obtained by WLOX, Jaheim McMillan and four other teens were approached by a police officer on Thursday, October 6th, after a call came in and stated a Kia Soul was driving recklessly, rolled down their window, and was “flipping them off.”

The documents also state that “the caller and his passenger said they saw the right rear passenger in the Kia Soul brandished a firearm” at a red light and also put on a “camouflage ski mask” and pointed a gun at them. Eventually, the caller was able to lose the Kia Soul.

Shortly after, police spotted a Kia Soul that matched the description made by the caller in the parking lot of a Family Dollar.

According to police, an officer approached an “armed” suspect, McMillan, which led to shots fired by the officer. McMillan was shot in the head and rushed to Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Other Teens Arrested & Charged

The four friends with McMillan were arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault and a bond of $500,000. It’s also reported that guns were confiscated as well.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting, and the officer was placed on “non-enforcement duties pending results of that investigation.”

Brett Favre Speaks Out Amid Welfare Scheme Controversy: “I Have Done Nothing Wrong, And It Is Past Time To Set The Record Straight”

The “Welfare Queen,” retired NFL player Brett Favre has broken his silence and is setting the facts straight regarding the $5 million scandal impacting the state of Mississippi. In a recent statement from Fox News, the former baller claims he has been “unjustly smeared in the media.”

“I have done nothing wrong, and it is past time to set the record straight,” he said. “No one ever told me, and I did not know, that funds designated for welfare recipients were going to the University or me. I tried to help my alma mater USM, a public Mississippi state university, raise funds for a wellness center. My goal was and always will be to improve the athletic facilities at my university.”

Brett continued to explain, “State agencies provided the funds to Nancy New’s charity, the Mississippi Community Education Center, which then gave the funds to the University, all with the full knowledge and approval of other State agencies, including the State-wide Institute for Higher Learning, the Governor’s office, and the Attorney General’s office. “In addition, he claimed, he was told that the legal work to ensure that these funds could be accepted by the university was done by State attorneys and State employees.

Although it may seem like Brett is the only one targeted in this drama, he’s not. The report states that the state of Mississippi is suing 38 people or companies to claw back $24 million of the $77 million in federal welfare money. As we previously reported, Brett and others allegedly funneled money to a new volleyball wellness center at the University of Southern Mississippi (USM). The $5 million was procured by MCEC via a Block Grant from the Mississippi Department of Human Services (MDHS) in October 2017.

CNN also reports that former Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant is also facing legal troubles. He has been subpoenaed again amid an ongoing civil suit in the welfare fraud scandal, as this time, attorneys want to see communications between the ex-governor and former NFL and Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre.
