It appears that a Mississippi news meteorologist with a history of saying the exact wrong thing to Black people has gotten the boot after she made an ill-advised reference to rapper Snoop Dogg while on air.
According to Deadline, Barbie Bassett has not been on the air for NBC affiliate WLBT since March 8, the day she made what she probably thought was a clever quip about the idea of a Snoop collaboration with a newsroom journalist.

“Fo shizzle, my nizzle,” Bassett, who is, well not Black, said.

OK, OK — just wait a second, guys. Maybe Bassett simply didn’t understand what the “n” in “nizzle” actually stands for.
She might have been thinking, “For sure, my nephew.”  Or maybe she had no idea what any of it was translating.
“For sanctuary, my neighbor.”
“For social studies? My notebook!”
“For shares and sh*t, my network.”
“For Sizzler, my napkin.”
She could have thought she was saying any of these things.
But, again, this is apparently not Bassett’s first racist slip of the noose…I mean, tongue.
From Deadline:
The station’s chief meteorologist as well as anchor, Bassett has previously caused controversy with a comment, referring to a black reporter’s “grandmammy” on air. She later apologized.
She is no longer listed on the station’s website, according to the Clarion Ledger. And Bassett has not shared anything on Twitter since the same day – her silence including this weekend when a deadly tornado struck Mississippi, sparking huge chatter among meteorologists.
Naaaah, but hold up! Let’s be clear, Bassett didn’t just tell a Black reporter to consult her “grandmammy” about a “chocolate pie,” but she began her remarks by saying “giiiiirl” and “sis’” in the whitest ways you have ever heard those words uttered.

Bruh, my secondhand embarrassment has secondhand embarrassment.
In both videos, Bassett clearly leaves her poor co-stars bowing their heads and looking around nervously as if they’re trying to dodge the ricochet backlash they know Evil Barbara Walters is generating for herself with every word that comes out of her mouth.

It’s unclear if Bassett was actually fired, suspended or what, but if she wasn’t fired, this meteorologist’s future likely depends on her ability to withstand the storm (see what I did there?) her unmitigated caucasity has created.
I’m just saying, she might be looking for a job at Fox News soon.

At this point, Snoop Dogg has beaten the game and is now just doing financial side missions by dipping his thumb into various ventures outside of his illustrious career as a recording artist. Apparently, the Doggystyle rapper is even an aficionado of things most people don’t have a clue about like the world of web3, cryptocurrencies, and blockchain technology. This brings us to Snoop’s latest launched venture, Shiller.

From Digital Music News:
The app describes itself as a ‘live broadcast platform’ that will combine web3 technology with real-time live-streaming content. Snoop Dogg is a co-founder alongside technology entrepreneur Sam Jones. “Get ready for the web3 live stream revolution,” the announcement post begins. “Say goodbye to middlemen and hello to true creator empowerment with Shiller!”

Related Stories

Snoop Dogg has been striking NFT and web3 adjacent partnerships for well over two years now. In April 2022, Snoop Dogg partnered with the Sandbox metaverse to launch an NFT collection of Snoop Avatars, debuting with the single, “A Hard Working Man.” The rapper also partnered with Yuga Labs, the team behind the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFT collection. For that partnership, Snoop performed on a metaverse-transformed stage at the MTV Music Awards in August 2022.
Shiller purports to differentiate itself from platforms like Twitch and Tik Tok by using blockchain technology, which “is a method of recording information that makes it impossible or difficult for the system to be changed, hacked or manipulated.” Shiller will also integrate NFTs and web3 so content creators can monetize their streams and cut out “middlemen” platforms like Tik Tok and YouTube.
Good luck to Snoop Dogg and his latest quest into the tech world. This man really does everything, don’t he?

It’s been more than two decades since the cult classic Hip-Hop comedy The Wash flopped at movie theaters, but it seems like the Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg film may get a new lease on life as a reboot is in the works.

On Friday (March 3), DJ Pooh took to Twitter to announce that The Wash would live on in this new era posting an orange The Wash water bucket and writing, “It all comes out in ‘The Wash’ Series Coming!” Well, we didn’t ask for this but now we’re curious to see who is cast to star in the series and how they’ll go about executing the comedy in the era of cancel culture.

Related Stories

The original film, starring Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, kinda bombed at the box office generating just $10 million dollars; it was made on a $7 million dollar budget. Though it was panned by critics and currently sits at an 8% on Rotten Tomatoes, The Wash went on to gain cult classic status as its popularity grew over the years. Aside from starring Dre and Snoop, the film boasts cameos from early 2000s Hip-Hop stars such as Eminem, Xzibit, Shaquille O’Neal and Ludacris, at a time when rappers and celebrities in films wasn’t exactly the norm yet.
Now that The Wash is experiencing a rebirth of sorts, it should be interesting to see which rappers (if any) will be partaking in the rebooted series and whether or not Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg will be involved in any capacity.
Are you looking forward to seeing The Wash as a new TV series, or do you think they should’ve just left the film alone? Let us know in the comments section below.

As a rapper, Snoop Dogg has an incredibly busy lifestyle, and his footwear needs to be up to par. Enter footwear brand Skechers, which the rapper donned for the brand’s 2023 Super Bowl commercial on Sunday night (Feb. 12).

“We’ve arrived, Mr. Dogg,” the rapper’s jet pilot says after touching down at an airport. “Time to slip in,” the 51-year-old says from the comfort of his seat on a private jet as he slips into a pair of royal-blue Skechers sneakers. A green lowrider car awaits the star, which promptly takes him to a packed concert — Snoop swaps his blue ensemble for a yellow one that consists of a matching pair of Skechers while performing his hits to cheering fans.

But the rapper’s duties don’t stop there: Snoop wears Skechers while performing a paper route, while doing a shift at the dog grooming salon, and even during a kid’s little league football game where he acts as coach. Snoop’s Skechers also make it all the way to the White House, where IRL friend Martha Stewart asks the question on everyone’s mind as he sits in the president’s seat. “Hey, Snoop, how do you do all this stuff?” she asks. “Skechers, baby, shoes made for all walks of life,” the rapper responds.

Snoop joins a list of music stars appearing in 2023 Super Bowl commercials, including Diddy’s Uber One ad (which co-stars Kelis, Montell Jordan, Donna Lewis and Haddaway); Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s Dunkin’ Donuts ad; Jack Harlow with Missy Elliott and Elton John in a Doritos ad; John Travolta in a T-Mobile ad; Sarah McLachlan in a Busch Light ad; and Metro Boomin in a Budweiser ad.

Over the decades he’s spent in the rap game, Snoop Dogg has earned himself all kinds of accolades and awards, but the Doggfather has a bone to pick with the Recording Academy as he’s never been the recipient of the highly-coveted Grammy Award.

A day after Beyoncé made history by taking home a record 29th Grammy Award, Snoop Dogg took to his Instagram account to point out the fact that though he’s dropped multiple classic songs and albums and has earned himself 20 Grammy Award nominations, he’s never taken a single golden trophy home. Posting the names of a few rap artists who’ve won multiple Grammy’s, Snoop wrote in the caption “Snoop dogg. 20 nominations. 0 wins. 👊🏾🐾👏🏿.”

It is lowkey bewildering that Snoop’s never taken home a single Grammy given his prolific run in which he’s dropped bangers such as “What’s My Name,” “Beautiful,” “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” and “Sexual Eruption.”
Still, the Recording Academy never blessed him with a single win. Even being besties with Martha Stewart didn’t seem to sway them in his direction. Still, regardless of how he feels about constantly being snubbed by the Academy, Snoop Dogg did partake in the Recording Academy’s Black Music Collective event in honor of Dr. Dre. and others and performed at the pre-Grammy ceremony. So he can’t be that mad at them.
What do y’all think of Snoop Dogg never having received a Grammy award? Which year should he have taken one home? Let us know in the comments section below.

“We already love their products, but [DJ Skee] put me in touch with the business side of it,” Snoop told Billboard during the grand opening on Friday. “Once we started talking about business and the things that we could do, it was just a natural fit.”

Inside “Tha Dogg House,” fans will find exclusive collectibles from Funko’s Pop! and GOLD lines, including a figurine of Snoop in his Lakers jersey and a fur coat, Pop! vinyls of Tupac and Notorious B.I.G., plus a ton of other products spanning sports, music, anime, movies TV and more.

Opening the store is a “dream come true” for Snoop, who now has two stores in the same plaza and he might be adding a third. “I’m thinking about opening an ice cream shop called Dr. Bombay’s Ice Cream,” he said.

“It feels good,” Snoop added of having two stores. “As a kid I never even dreamed of having one store, so to have two in the same shopping center, right across the street from SoFi Stadium, this is like a dream come true.”

Besides shopping, fans can snap photos in front of the massive Snoop mural and life-size Pop figures of LeBron James, Tupac and others.

The green flooring inside the store mimics a football field, a nod to Snoop’s love of sports. The 51-year-old rapper runs a youth football league and performed at the Super Bowl halftime show last year, and while he had “no advice” for Rihanna ahead of her Super Bowl halftime show next month, he invited the “Lift Me Up” singer to visit the store and The Compound, his massive studio space located in Inglewood.

“The only advice I have for [Rihanna] is to stop by this store, come by The Compound, and come see me in the ‘green room.’”

On another note, with 2023 just getting started, Snoop’s plans include continuing to inspire the youth. “Making money, making a difference,” he said. “I was a kid that dreamed of [success] and it happened, so I want to give kids a chance to actually live their dreams before they get to [my] age. Sometimes that’s just being around me, being around this environment. That means a lot because I had none of this as a kid and I became [successful]. Imagine if I could give them more than what I never had?”

Dionne Warwick is currently best known as a hilarious public figure on Twitter but before that, she dominated the charts dating back to the 1950s and just before the turn of the century. In a new documentary, fans learn that the “Walk On By” star checked Snoop Dogg and his Death Row crew for their language back in the 1990s.
As reported by CNN, a new documentary, Dionne Warwick: Don’t Make Me Over, features clips from some of the many stars and celebrities who’ve encountered the legendary Ms. Warwick along her musical journey, her influential vocal style, and other tidbits. Snoop Dogg appears in the documentary and shared a tale of how Warwick gathered him, Death Row Records president Suge Knight, and others at her home for an early morning discussion.

“We were kind of like scared and shook up,” Snoop Dogg said. “We’re powerful right now, but she’s been powerful forever. Thirty-some years in the game, in the big home with a lot of money and success.”
Snoop says Warwick wasn’t trying to get them to change their creative energy but did warn against the use of derogatory language against women and decrying violence. It was, as expected, a superstar trying to impart wisdom to rising stars in their own right.
“She was checking me at a time when I thought we couldn’t be checked,” Snoop shared. “We were the most gangsta as you could be but that day at Dionne Warwick’s house, I believe we got out-gangstered that day.”
Dionne Warwick: Don’t Make Me Over was developed by CNN and premiered on Jan. 1 via the network.

Snoop Dogg is embracing a new chapter in the journey of Death Row as he and the vaunted label launch a new strain of cannabis.

The launch of Death Row Cannabis was announced on social media Thursday (Dec. 29). In an Instagram post, the classic Death Row logo created by graffiti artist Eric Haze was animated by artist Mylaramen, this time with the prisoner having one hand freed up to take a pull on a heavy joint as his hood is pulled back further. The striking visuals were accompanied by a soundtrack by producer and longtime Death Row Records collaborator DJ Battlecat.

“Promising to return Death Row to its former glory, all elements of the former label are being refitted for today’s audience and their evolving tastes,” said the company in a press release. The launch also provided the public with a look at the first drop which will come in limited-edition metallic bags carrying the Death Row Cannabis logo featuring that same prisoner smoking up with a free hand. The cannabis strains that are anticipated to be in the initial drop include familiar ones such as the Runtz strain and Strawberry Gary.
As reported by High Times, the main cultivator behind the new cannabis brand is AK, who was hand-selected by Snoop Dogg himself.” AK is responsible for being a legacy cultivator of many premium brands of cannabis, launching the SMKRS platform. He is also the Vice President of Cultivation for TRP LLC, the cannabis retail and distribution company which is also a majority owner of the Cookies dispensary stores across the United States. This includes their growing facilities in Florida. The first drop is slated to occur Jan. 2, 2023, at Cookies California locations in Brentwood, San Diego and San Bernardino. Other locations and other states will be announced afterward.
