Charlie Wilson received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, with collaborators like Snoop Dogg attending the ceremony honoring him.
For Charlie Wilson, the road to being an R&B legend has been a long and eventful one. Another milestone in that journey occurred on Monday (January 29) as he was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The 71-year-old lead singer of The Gap Band reminisced over a moment in his past when he first arrived in Los Angeles while addressing the crowd at the ceremony.

“But I was walking in front of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, and I was trying to put my hands in the hands on the sidewalk. I was like, ‘Wow, what if I can get this one day?’, Wilson said. “Some woman walking by said, ‘That’s not impossible.’ I said, ‘But I’m talking about me.’ She said, ‘Yeah, and I’m telling you it’s not impossible. It might be improbable, but not impossible.’ And now, here it is — so many years later, and I’m getting that star on Hollywood Boulevard.”
Snoop Dogg, a frequent collaborator of Wilson’s, praised the singer for being a vault of knowledge for him. “That’s the treasure to me. because when we get in this industry, we don’t really have people who we can count on, who we can go to. We get so far in this industry that you lose contact,” said the rapper. “So, to have somebody like you to stay in my life and to be there for me and my family means the world to me, Charlie.”
Charlie Wilson underwent the highs of fame and the lows – after the success of The Gap Band, he struggled with addiction and homelessness for most of the 1990s. That decade, however, would see him revitalized through being featured on numerous tracks by Hip-Hop artists and a solo career. He’d earn 13 Grammy Award nominations, a BET Lifetime Achievement Award, and a Soul Train Icon award. Wilson also successfully overcame prostate cancer in 2008 and is now a Prostate Cancer Foundation spokesperson.
“I’m still here to be able to tell my story and be able to dance and sing and have a good time on the stage,” said Wilson. “All the things I’ve ever prayed for, they all came to pass. I really sort of am Superman — I’m faster than all of the speeding bullets that came after me.”

Snoop Dogg joins a long list of Black celebrities and public figures who have given former Swindler-In-Chief Donald Trump a pass for reasons far beyond comprehension. In a new interview, Snoop Dogg claimed to have love and respect for Donald Trump despite a record of questionable actions and alleged abuses of power.
Snoop Dogg spoke with a London publication, The Sunday Times, sharing details of his long and storied career en route to becoming one of the world’s top pitchmen and recognizable stars.

“He ain’t done nothing wrong to me. He has done only great things for me. He pardoned Michael Harris,” the Long Beach, Calif. star said during the chat. “So I have nothing but love and respect for Donald Trump.”
Some may know that Harris was a co-founder of Death Row Records, which gave Snoop his first shot at stardom. Harris was pardoned for attempted murder and drug trafficking charges by Trump in 2021.
The pair were once at odds with one another once Donald Trump became president and Snoop Dogg took several shots at the beleaguered former business mogul and Republican Party frontrunner for this year’s general election.
However, it appears that Trump’s pardon was all it took for Snoop to have a change of heart, which is at least a more significant reason why some of his other Black supporters pledged their support.

Everybody loves an underdog. Snoop Dogg pays homage to his hometown of Long Beach, Calif., in the sports comedy The Underdoggs, premiering Friday (Jan. 26) on Prime Video.

Snoop stars as Jaycen “Two Js” Jennings, a former NFL player who gets sentenced to community service after a car accident. To stay out of jail, Jennings agrees to coach a youth football team in his hometown.

The Underdoggs was filmed at Snoop’s former high school, Long Beach Poly High, in his hometown of Long Beach, Calif.

“Poly High School, the Funkhouse, this is the most prolific high school in Southern California as far as I’m concerned when you think about the greats that have come through that campus,” Snoop said in an interview with the Press-Telegram, his hometown newspaper.

The rapper went on to name some of the many famous faces (besides himself) that attended Poly over the years, including John Wayne, Billie Jean King, Cameron Diaz, Carl Weathers, Tony Gwynn and Willie McGinest.

Snoop produced The Underdoggs alongside Kenya Barris, Mychelle Deschamps and Jonathan Glickman. Charles Stone III directed the movie written by Danny Segal and Isaac Schamis.

Tika Sumpter, Andrew Schulz, Mike Epps and George Lopez are included in the cast.

Snoop Dogg is possibly the hardest-working man in Hip-Hop, as he picks up more side gigs than a jazz musician. The D-O-Double-G will join the NBC broadcast of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, adding to his sports broadcasting experience.
As seen at Olympics.com, Snoop Dogg, 52, will be in Paris as part of the coverage team for the 2024 Summer Olympics as a special correspondent. The announcement was shared during the halftime segment of Sunday Night Football’s contest between the Green Bay Packers and the Minnesota Vikings.

Some might recall that Snoop has covered the Olympics after providing hilarious and expert commentary during the 2020 Summer Olympics, which took place in 2021 after a delay due to the pandemic.
“I grew up watching the Olympics and am thrilled to see the incredible athletes bring their A-game to Paris. It’s a celebration of skill, dedication, and the pursuit of greatness,” Snoop Dogg said in a press release.
Snoop continued,”We’re going to have some amazing competitions and, of course, I will be bringing that Snoop style to the mix. It’s going to be the most epic Olympics ever, so stay tuned, and keep it locked. Let’s elevate, celebrate, and make these games unforgettable, smoke the competition, and may the best shine like gold. Peace and Olympic LOVE, ya dig?”
Snoop Dogg will join NBC Olympics host Mike Tirico and offer his takes and observations, no doubt exhibiting his usual Long Beach, Calif. coolness.
The Olympic Games Paris 2024 are scheduled for July 26 through August 11, 2024, and will air on NBC and its various cable network holdings.

Snoop Dogg has a new comedy movie coming out next year, but luckily for fans, they won’t have to carve out time of their busy schedule to see it in theaters as it will be releasing exclusively on Amazon Prime.

According to Deadline, The Underdoggs, starring Snoop Dogg, will be skipping the planned theatrical Jan. 26, 2024 release and instead go directly to streaming on Prime Video so it can be enjoyed in the comfort of your own home. Directed by Charles Stone III, the film follows a former football star (Snoop Dogg), who’s egotistical ways land him in hot water with the law, and he has to repay society by undertaking a new venture that’s sure to end up softening him up after it’s all said and done.
Deadline reports:

Written by Danny Segal and Isaac Schamis, The Underdoggs follows Jaycen “Two Js” Jennings, a washed-up former pro football star, who hits rock bottom and is sentenced to community service coaching an unruly pee-wee football team in his hometown. During the course of this, he may just turn his life around and rediscover his love of the game in the process.
The movie stars Tika Sumpter, Andrew Schulz, Mike Epps and George Lopez.
Going straight to Prime Video is probably the right call as we don’t see the film being a box office smash or even modestly successful to be honest. Maybe if it dropped in the late ’90s. Just sayin’.
The role itself should be a walk in the park for Snoop as the man was actually a coach in the Snoop Youth Football League back in 2005. An actual football star he was not, and we don’t think with that slender frame anyone would believe he ever was (no shots).
Check out the trailer to The Underdoggs below, and let us know if you’ll be checking for it when it debuts on Amazon Prime come Jan. 26, 2024.

Snoop Dogg has moved far beyond his familiar Hip-Hop environs and is perhaps one of the most recognizable celebrities in the world, leveraging that fame to become a pitchman for the ages. The Long Beach legend duped his legion of fans after claiming to be going smokeless, which was a ruse to promote a new smokeless fire pit, Solo Stove.
On November 16, Snoop Dogg shared a post on his popular Instagram account claiming that he was “giving up smoke” and asking his fans, family, and friends to respect his privacy. As most are aware, Snoop is known for indulging in the sticky green leaf which has become a part of his identity just like his effortless charm. Even then, some suspected that the Death Row Records honcho would pull some manner of a switcheroo.

On Monday (November 20), the proverbial cat was let out of the bag and what was revealed is that Snoop is hawking a new product, Solo Stove, which offers a fire pit solution sans smoke. If you’re into the outdoors like we are, then you’re aware of how the smoke from the pit can get into your clothes, hair, and lungs. Solo Stove eliminates the smoke without compromising the blaze.
“I love a good fire outside but the smoke was too much. Solo Stove fixed fire and took out the smoke. They changed the game and now I’m excited to spread the love and stay warm with my friends and family,” Snoop shared in a statement.
“We’re stoked to have a product so good, it even inspired Snoop to go smokeless. As the most popular smokeless fire pit in the world, Solo Stove is all about bringing people together and creating a vibe that encourages you to sit back, relax, and enjoy your time with friends and family. Snoop, like Solo, is about good moments, and we’re looking forward to welcoming even more people to the Solo Stove family,” John Merris, CEO of Solo Brands, added.
Snoop and Solo Stove have a new bundle package that went on sale Monday. The Limited Edition Bonfire Snoop Dogg Collaboration features a Bonfire Fire Pit designed by the D-O-Double-G, a fire pit stand, a bucket hat, and a Snoop and Solo sticker pack in case you want people to know how smokeless you’re keeping in the cooler months. The bundle retails for $349.99.

Snoop Dogg is looking to do more than give out Death Row chains since acquiring the iconic music label. He is teaming up with his son, Cordell Broadus, to help put minority creators and gamers on the map.

Spotted on HypeBeast, the iconic Hip-Hop star and his seed are working together to give minority creators and artists a platform to develop and publish on Fortnite using the company’s Unreal Editor.
Broadus made the dope announcement while speaking at AFROTECH.
Per HypeBeast:

“We’ve been creating games, and none of them has been published anything on a huge scale, but on a very amateur level,” Broadus told AFROTECH. “We’ve been around games for the last five to six years. And Snoop, he’s done mobile games. A few of them in the past five to six years in apps and stuff like that. So we’ve always had the mindset of building it on our own.”

He added, “We felt like let’s really put resources into building Death Row Games and making a home for diverse creators in the gaming ecosystem and be a part of the narrative, the storytelling of what the next game should be looking like. And I keep saying ‘show representation of the culture in these sectors,’ versus us just being the talent. We wanted to make sure that we’re part of the decision that’s being made and more importantly tell these stories from diverse creators and focus on creatives in underserved communities.

Calvin Broadus Is Excited To Work With His Dad

“I think it’s dope for a father and a son to be working together for one, and for two he’s 51 years old. So he may be out of touch with some of these things.” He continued, “And I’m always there to keep him up to speed and translate information to him in a tone that he can understand. I think that’s more important… but just as much as I’m giving him game he’s given me the keys to make these decisions with a IP as big as his.”

Salute to both of them. We hope Death Row Gaming accomplishes its mission by opening the doors for Black and Brown creators in the video game space.
