For the past few years, Nike has made it a point to go after any and everyone who’s been banking off their products whether it be through bootlegging, patent infringement or even biting their silhouettes.
Even sneaker customizers aren’t safe from Nike’s high-powered and well-funded attorneys. Revered sneaker customizer, the Shoe Surgeon, just became the Swoosh brand’s latest target as he’s been hit with a lawsuit over the custom remixes he’s created over the years.
According to Sneaker Legal’s official Instagram page, popular sneaker customizer, the Shoe Surgeon (Dominic Ciambrone, pictured above) has some explaining to do in a court of law as Nike has just slapped him with a trademark infringement complaint over the customizations he’s created over the years.
Accusing the Shoe Surgeon of counterfeiting and misleading customers who may think his creations are actual collaborations with the company, Nike wants to put a stop to Ciambrone’s bread and butter. The lawsuit also claims that they’ve tried multiple times to straighten the situation out without having to resort to legal action, but apparently Ciambrone would simply remove the customized Nike’s from his website only to resell them on other platforms.
Nike even singled out Ciambrone’s Shoe Surgeon Academy, which is problematic because it teaches people how to customize sneakers on their leading to more bootlegging out on these streets.
Nike doesn’t just want the Shoe Surgeon to shut down his operation, but they are also seeking $60 million, or the profits the defendant garnered from his work, along with their attorney fees. Lord knows how much Nike is paying their attorneys, but if they are constantly winning these kinds of cases, it’s no small fee.
Speaking to Complex about the matter, Nike explained why they take such measures when it comes to their sneaker products.
Per Complex:
“Our goal is to make sure consumers are not misled and have access to authentic Nike, Inc. products that are authorized and created according to our high standards with the performance benefits they expect. It is unfortunate that after many attempts to resolve this matter privately, we’ve had to take legal action against the Shoe Surgeon for counterfeiting, mass customization, and trademark infringement. In order to safeguard our brand and IP, and aligned with Nike’s commitment to protect the consumer from counterfeit Nike product, we are left with no choice but to seek a legal solution to address how the Shoe Surgeon is constructing counterfeit ‘Nike’ footwear from scratch and selling it as officially branded product. Further, the Shoe Surgeon is teaching others to create counterfeit ‘Nike’ sneakers. These activities are illegal, deceive consumers, and create confusion in the marketplace around source, authenticity, and quality of Nike products.
“We valued our relationship with the Shoe Surgeon and do not have any issues with the limited, one-of-one customization he’s been doing for us or his clients, when allowed under Nike-sponsored athletes’ contracts. In fact, we value opportunities for our athletes, consumers and partners to express themselves through their own style and creativity.”
Looks like the Shoe Surgeon has his work cut out for him.

Ages ago the Nike Air Foamposite One was easily one of the most popular silhouettes out on these mean streets and though these days many sneakerheads ignore them for Jordans, Dunks, and even Crocs, Nike seems ready to try to reestablish the hype behind its late 90’s gem going forward.

With OG sneakerheads patiently waiting for the re-release of the classic “Galaxy” Air Foamposites next year, Nike has decided to make a new iteration of their timeless creation which also pays homage to a hugely popular video game franchise that also blew up in the mid-90’s.
According to Hypebeast, Nike will be introducing the “Tekken 8” Air Foamposite One sometime in the future, and truth be told, we’re lowkey feeling this colorway and design. Similar to the colorway of the classic “Eggplant” Foamposites, the “Tekken 8” boasts some pretty cool details that will make them stand out amongst the rest and is sure to be a hit amongst video game enthusiasts and sneakerheads alike.

Per Hypebeast:
An iridescent shell kicks off the look, with a thematic print covering the shiny finish. From there, black arrives at the leather eyestays, laces and tongue. Special Tekken motifs enter the mix at the tongue and sockliner branding, while a red “FIST” graphic adorns the icy translucent outsole. That’s not all — a special box featuring the game’s cover art of Kazuya Mishima and Jin Kazama is included too.
At the time of writing, Nike has not confirmed when this Tekken 8-themed take on the Air Foamposite One will be releasing. Stay tuned for updates as we currently expect it to arrive this September via Nike SNKRS and select retailers at a starting price of $250 USD.

The box itself may be enough to get heads to line up for these, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Would you cop the “Tekken 8” Air Foamposites or are you still cool on the classic silhouette these days?

After a lukewarm rollout in 2019, Nike has decided to fallback and retire their “revolutionary” auto-lacing Nike Adapt sneakers that no one asked for and fewer people even wanted.
According to Sneaker News, the Nike Adapt will be retired in 2024 as the innovative silhouette never really took off in popularity as they might’ve expected. Having launched in 2019 with an accompanying app, Nike announced on their FAQ pages that they would no longer be dropping new versions of the sneaker going forward. Unfortunately, for Nike, the Adapt will not be missed (no shots).
Sneaker News reports:
The first self-lacing sneaker available to the larger market was the HyperAdapt 1.0 in late 2016; with an MSRP of $720, this state-of-the-art sneaker came housed in premium packaging came with an AC adapter, charging pucks for the internal motor that ignites the automatic lacing system, and a handy quick-start manual so you’ll know how to use the brand new tech. From that point on, several different colorways of the HyperAdapt 1.0 were brought to market until its final documented release in late Spring 2018.
Nike quickly pivoted to bringing Adapt tech to performance basketball with the Adapt BB 1.0 in early 2019. This performance basketball shoe was fully capable on the court, but featured the same hands-free technology and even a companion App that allowed for remote control of the lacing, the lightning, and power on/off capability.
Nike plans on removing the Adapt App from Apple and Android stores by Aug. 6.
What this does for resale value is anyone’s guess, but truth be told, we weren’t mad at the sneakers. Just seemed a bit too high maintenance for our taste.
What do y’all think about Nike ditching their Adapt silhouette? Will you miss them or nah? Let us know in the comments section below.

With sneaker companies dropping so many retros, a criticism is that the novelty of an OG shoe’s rarity and the feelings they evoke are now being lost. One shoe that has managed to duck the re-release treatment for years, and thus had its legend only exponentially grow is the famed Wu-Tang Clan x Nike Dunk.
Well, the black and yellow basketball shoe is finally getting the retro treatment. On Sunday, June 30, the official Wu-Tang Clan Instagram account (and Nike Sportwear’s) teased the return of the ultra grail-level sneaker with the caption “BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ” and a shoe covered in bees. Originally released in 1999, the Wu-Tang x Dunk High LE was gifted strictly to friends and family of the Staten Island Hip-Hop group. The shoe is a high top Nike Dunk in a yellow and black colorway (release sneakers consider it the “Iowa” colorway), with the familiar Wu-Tang Clan logo on the heel.
Word is only about 100 pairs of the sneaker were ever created. Finding a deadstock pair has become increasingly rare, and pricey—for example, an alleged deadstock promo sample is going for a smooth $45,000 on eBay right now.
The retro will cost less coin, but depending on how many Nike decides to actually manufacture, you can bet the aftermarket price will skyrocket since resellers and bots will be itching to get their hands on as many pairs as possible to cash out. Meanwhile, sneaker civilians will pray for the best via raffles and quick fingers, and strong wi-fi, on drop day.
No word on a proper release date, yet (and surely it will be sometime in the Fall), but I need two pairs, at least.

The Nike Air Force 1 is without a doubt Nike’s most recognizable and iconic silhouette, but can NIGO bring some hype and attention to their Air Force 3?
According to Hypebeast, the founder of A Bathing Ape (BAPE) stepped out in some unreleased Air Force 3s, and while no one knows when these will officially drop, don’t be surprised if they become must-have’s by the time they do. The bright colorway caught many eyes as NIGO walked out to close KENZO’s SS25 runway at Paris Fashion Week. Buzz has already started growing around the silhouette as it’s something new and original in a game that’s growing bored of the old and remixed.
Per Hypebeast:
It was first reported in April 2023 that NIGO and Nike had a collaborative shoe in the works. In November, NIGO was spotted in New York wearing a pair of Nike Air Force 3 Lows with mocha brown details, seemingly inspired by 1988’s Air Force 3 High “Escape.”
At Kenzo, NIGO rocked a totally different Nike Air Force 3 Low, albeit still with a retro-inspired design. Spotted by @stevenvictor, the crisp white shoes featured multi-colored panels – with shades of pink, yellow, green, red, purple and black – as well as a red Swoosh.
NIGO also reworked the tongue on the shoes, which reads “AIRFORCE” at the top, along with another logo that was partially concealed by the laces.
We’re not gonna lie, we’re low-key feeling these joints.
The NIGO x Nike Air Force 3s are expected to release some time this coming fall for a reasonable $160.

For decades break dancers have been poppin’ and lockin’ in everything from Air Force 1s and shell toes to Timberland boots. Now, Nike is blessing them with a silhouette made specifically for their fancy footwork just in time for the Olympic games in Paris this summer.
According to GQ, the Swoosh brand has just introduced the first ever sneaker made for break dancers dubbed the Nike Jam as break dancers gear up for the competition that’s set to go down in Paris this coming July. The silhouette has been in the works for quite a few years and with the input of some world class B-boys and B-girls, Nike is ready to unleash their latest creation on the Hip-Hop world.
GQ reports:
The Nike Jam has been in development for over seven years, with on-the-ground research performed at the famed Nike Sports Research Lab in Beaverton, Oregon. The company invited pro breakers to demonstrate to Nike’s designers exactly how they like to move in their shoes, per Fast Company, and apparently even brought in a DJ to help set the appropriate mood. In film sessions, Nike analyzed the movement of the dancers and carefully measured the impact of their feet on the floor, looking for ways to maximize comfort and energy return. It resulted in a shoe that makes breakdancing as smooth and tactile as possible.
The silhouette itself is low and compact, made of a combination of leather and knit mesh and built atop a sizable gum sole. The heel tab and lace lock are reminiscent of the Nike Metcon, which is built for high-intensity interval workouts that include jump rope, burpees, and box jumps, all somewhat similar in terms of the need for agility and speed. But Nike didn’t neglect the style factor, either: the Jam are handsome enough to be worn casually, with pleasing retro quality that nods to breaking’s roots in ‘70s and ’80s street culture.
Expect to see these all over the hood as heads busts all kinds of moves from the corner to the park as the summer heat engulfs your city and gives heads a reason to dance all night long.
The Nike Jam is set to release sometime this summer for $120.

A former diversity manager for both Facebook and Nike just learned that crime doesn’t pay and that freedom is indeed priceless. Barbara Furlow-Smiles was just sentenced to five years in prison for robbing both companies of millions of dollars.
According to CNBC, Furlow-Smiles pleaded guilty to wire fraud back in December of 2023 after being accused of stealing $4.9 million from Facebook by using fake invoices, fraudulent vendors and even cash kickbacks while working for the company. Interestingly enough she continued to partake in such practices when she got herself a new gig over at Nike as their DEI but only made off with a little more than $100,000. Chicken feed when compared to the millions she syphoned off of Facebook but still a lot of money.
Prosecutors in the case asked the judge to sentence her to 6 and a half years as she used the money to fund a pretty lavish lifestyle in California, Georgia and Oregon, but “luckily” for Smiles, the judge overseeing the case decided to cut the sentence down to five years for her transgressions and ordered her to repay Facebook $4.8 million and Nike $121,000.
CNBC reports:
Prosecutors in their sentencing memo said that in addition to the money Furlow-Smiles stole from the company, Meta lost more than $4.5 million “in addition to other expenses, such as attorney’s fees, which were incurred as a result of Meta having to uncover and investigate her fraud scheme.”
“As Meta notes, ‘the harm from [Furlow-Smiles’] criminal conduct cannot be measured purely in financial terms,‘” prosecutors recounted in their memo. “Her ‘crimes also resulted in anguish amongst those employees that worked closely with her.’”
Nike told prosecutors that she was “entrusted as a leader for [the] company, that she would embody the value of ‘Doing the Right Thing’ which is one of NIKE’s key maxims,” the prosecutor said in their memo. “As Nike explains, ‘[t]o say that Ms. Furlow-Smiles violated our trust would be an understatement. The fraud committed by Ms. Furlow-Smiles violated the trust of and devastated the employees who managed and worked with her.’ ”
We’re just surprised that she continued her scheme at Nike after getting fired from Facebook. Did they not call her past employers for references or anything?
