Revisit the Style of 2005 With Missy Elliott, Hilary Duff, Fall Out Boy, Rihanna & More Music Stars

From Mariah Carey‘s iconic gold Emancipation of Mimi gown to Destiny’s Child‘s grown and sexy Destiny Fulfilled… and Lovin’ It tour looks, 2005 was stacked with memorable fashion moments across pop culture.

As the midpoint of the ’00s decade, 2005 housed the last vestiges of Y2K style before the culture slowly began its transition into more ’10s-adjacent looks. Hip-hop icons like Missy Elliott and 50 Cent loved a velour tracksuit moment, R&B/pop sirens like Jennifer Lopez, Ciara and Beyoncé routinely tore up stages with booty-teasing low-rise jeans, and beloved rock bands like Fall Out Boy and Green Day preferred to contrast their arena-rocking headbangers with formal attire.

2005 was also the year of the statement belt. Kelly Clarkson — who boasted two top 10 entries on that year’s Year-End Hot 100 in “Since U Been Gone” (No. 4) and “Behind These Hazel Eyes” (No. 10) – loved flaunting her pop-rock leanings with a studded belt, while fellow pop princess Hilary Duff would use oversize belts to add dimension to her form-fitting dresses. And how could we forget the endlessly long necklaces and rich earth tones of the boho-chic movement that ran through Hollywood like Lara Croft.

Of course, there are always a few stars who stick to their unique lanes. Queen of Pop Madonna kept her Confessions on a Dance Floor fashions consistent with a constant rotation of vibrant leotards, and Pharrell Williams was rarely seen without his blindingly bright N.E.R.D. character pendant chain.

While there were certainly a few dominant fashion trends in 2005, one striking throughline is the individuality our biggest and brightest stars brought to their fashion.

Eazin Shares How ‘Shakespeare’s Bruises’ Came to Life: ‘It’s a Creative Collision’ | Billboard China

Eazin talks about the creative process behind his new song, “Shakespeare’s Bruises,” and more!

Eazin:

The music video for this song mainly highlights dancing with some small designs added, so mixing it with funky dance beats feel fresh, like a creative collision. The significant moment should be when I started learning street dance in university. At that time, in university clubs, we often performed at the school theater and I really love the feeling of being on stage. This song was the first time I collaborated with a talented team of American lyricists and composers specializing in singing and dancing. The earliest demo was completed by a lyricist and composer specializing in singing and dancing. There are more considerations when writing lyrics for singing and dancing songs. It’s important to ensure that the lyrics, dance, and rhythm are unified. In terms of the completeness of the work, the sound and rhythm are more important than the literal expression. For this song, I wrote the lyrics within the framework of singing and dancing making the expressions I wanted without affecting the rhythm and sound. This kind of creation was very interesting. Since the album is called The Great Novelist I wanted to try to create a scenario where modern novelists have a cross-temporal dialogue with historical predecessors. In the history of European and American literature when paying tribute to great writers Shakespeare is the obvious choice. Almost all the earliest templates for modern Hollywood genre films and heroic journey stories originate from him. Additionally, Shakespeare himself is quite mysterious with many of his works are widely known, but not much information about himself.

Wisp Debuts ‘Get Back to Me’ at Coachella & More | Billboard News

Wisp performed for the first time at Coachella, and she shares her experience of debuting her new single “Get Back to Me” at the festival, her favorite part of Coachella and more!

Are you excited for her new single? Let us know in the comments below!

Tetris Kelly:
So from the Hot Hard Rock songs No. 10. Like, you were top 10 there, and now playing Sonora stage with so many other amazing rock acts. How was it?

Wisp:
It was amazing. I had so much fun.

And then, what is that … the vibe over there? Because I feel like in that specific stage, like everybody’s just having a good time.

Yeah, I was so relieved that I was playing Sonora stage because it’s so enclosed and it’s dark, and I feel like that’s the perfect vibe for my music. So it was really fun. It was packed, too.

Yeah, it was packed for your set. And I mean, you also debuted some new music.

I did!

So how was it to play “Get Back to Me”?

It was amazing. I love that song, and I’m really excited for it to come out.

And then, what have your fans felt when they were … how did you feel when they’re, like, did you debut a new song and like, they’ve never heard it before?

Yeah, I don’t know. Sometimes it’s hard to tell what people are thinking, but I feel like they were pretty well received today, so I’m happy.

And then, how has Coachella been, in general? Because this is your very first Coachella.

It is.

So, like, how has it been walking around? What’s been your favorite part?

It’s been so fun. My friends are here as well. So we’ve seen a couple sets yesterday. Clairo was my favorite. She was amazing.

Gracie Abrams Talks Returning to the Studio After ‘That’s So True’ Success, ‘Exposure Therapy’ of Eras Tour & More | Billboard Cover

Billboard cover star Gracie Abrams is heading back to the studio and has revealed that she’s working on new music following the success of “That’s So True.” She opens up about her friendships with Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo, her experience opening their tours, the future of pop with Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan, her signing to Interscope, and more!

Gracie Abrams:

“That So True,” like, that was the first song I’ve had that did what it did. Every time I sat down to try to write something, I felt like a little sick kind of … how do I make something that makes me feel passionate, I suppose. Having been in Taylor’s orbit and she is, like, the most well-known artist there is. It really helps put everything into perspective where it’s like, I don’t really have it that bad in terms of the invasion of privacy and like, I feel like I’ve learned a lot from her, obviously, but one of the things that I’ve felt lucky to observe is like how extreme it can be, because I think it helps right-size my own sh–. I think having done The Eras Tour and seeing the largest crowds in the world, it’s kind of like this lovely exposure therapy, or anything smaller than that actually does feel kind of comforting, despite the fact that, of course, playing my own arena tour felt like a different planet to me entirely. I do think there felt like some kind of closeness even between me and the person in the last row. It was just the best time.

Amaarae is entering her BLACK STAR era, and the singer shares her excitement about previewing new music, her history-making Coachella performance, the differences between weekend one and two, touring with Sabrina Carpenter and Childish Gambino, her thoughts on women owning their sexuality in the music industry and more!

Are you excited for BLACK STAR? Let us know in the comments below!

Tetris Kelly:
From the desert. Miss Fountain Baby, Amaarae. What’s up, girl?

Amaarae:

I’m good, I’m good, I’m good. It’s BLACK STAR now, it’s ‘BLACK STAR now. We’re getting ready for album mode. So, you know.

We know you’re getting ready for album mode because you were out there at the desert just dropping new music. So how did it feel to, like, release new stuff on such a great stage?

Man, it was incredible. I think the crowd responded really well. I’m excited to drop the new music. I’m excited for this new chapter. And it was insane. It was insane. Like the energy was nuts.

And how do you even prepare for something like Coachella?

You don’t prepare for Coachella. Coachella prepares for you. No, I feel like you just have to lock in mentally. Like, I’m not even kidding. There’s so many moving parts for the show. And I think, like, at some point I had to melt down a little bit.

Yeah, because, like do you get nervous? How do you, like, how do you handle your nerves?

I think it just gets to a point where it’s like, you have to end up on that stage, and you have to give the people a show. And I think for a stage this big and just kind of, like, this prominent, you I can’t, like, lose, you know, I can’t afford to lose. So it’s just lock that mind in and we just go. We just go.

New Drake Album After Coachella Hype? | Billboard News

Drake went on Adin Ross’ livestream and spilled that he has a new solo album in the works after he received love from Travis Scott and Yeat at Coachella. Keep watching for the full story!

Are you ready for a new Drake album? Let us know in the comments!

Tetris Kelly:

Drake’s recent return with PARTYNEXTDOOR wasn’t enough, as he hints at new music with Adin Ross. After Yeat and Travis Scott showed him all the love at Coachella, we’re breaking it down. “Nokia” just reached a new peak on the Billboard Hot 100, and Drake told Adin Ross on a livestream he appreciates the success, but is ready for a new album. We hope it slaps—the OVO crooner dropped his last solo LP back in 2023. The streets must miss him, because Yeat performed a cover of Drake’s song “Feel No Ways” at Coachella, and Travis Scott performed “Modern Jam” over Drake’s “Nokia” instrumental. Drake himself also mentioned the Wireless Festival, which he’s headlining in London this July.

2025 Coachella Best Photos: JENNIE, Post Malone, Lady Gaga, Tyla & Becky G, More

SoCal’s high holiday of music festivals, Coachella, returned to Indio, California, this past weekend, April 10-13.

As always, the event offered far more music than one person can possibly consume, with some of the biggest music stars in the world turning up and turning out across the festival’s many stages.

As an acutely hot Friday afternoon turned into balmy evening, Lady Gaga gave what will likely come to be remembered as one of the all-time great Coachella headline performances, dazzling the crowd with a stunning multi-act show that transformed the stage into an opera house. Saturday headliners Green Day reminded the giant crowd assembled to see just how many hits they’ve accumulated over the last 30-plus years, and Post Malone closed out the main stage on Sunday with a show that highlighted his talent, charm and expansive catalog.

The very weekend one phenomenon of artists bringing out other artists as surprise guests was also in full effect. Zedd brought out stars including Maren Morris and John Mayer, Zedd himself was a guest during a performance by Gustavo Dudamel and the L.A. Philharmonic, Charli xcx brought out a gaggle of Brat-adjacent friends including Lorde, Billie Eilish and Troye Sivan during her main stage show, Benson Boone brought out Queen’s Brian May, Addison Rae made a surprise appearance during Arca’s set and — in one of the weekend’s buzziest surprise appearances — Senator Bernie Sanders introduced Clairo during her Saturday night show and told the crowd that “We need you to stand up and fight for justice, to fight for economic justice, social justice, and racial justice.”

K-pop and J-pop also had a strong presence at the festival, with big shows from LISA (who joked that her dazzling stage outfits are what the character she played on The White Lotus wears when she’s not working), JENNIE, XG and ENHYPEN.

All in all, the weekend was a reminder why Coachella’s prestige and influence is unparalleled. See some of the sights from the first weekend of Coachella 2025 below.

Victoria Monét Preps for Billboard Women in Music 2025 in ‘Red Carpet Radiance’ | Billboard

This is partner content.

Victoria Monét gives fans a glimpse at the making of her look for Billboard Women in Music 2025 with some help from Sol de Janeiro. See below for a list of products used during filming.

Victoria Monét:

What’s up, you guys? It’s your girl Victoria Monét here. Come get ready with me as I prep for Billboard Women in Music with Sol de Jainero. In order to feel confident on a red carpet where all cameras are flashing your way, I feel like it’s very important to bring your A game. My natural element is usually brown tones, but tonight I’m going for something that feels sensual and a little bit mysterious. One of the most important steps of the red carpet prep is definitely moisturizing my body. I’m really, really enthusiastic about glowy skin. The Brazilian Bum Bum Cream by Sol de Janeiro really, really accomplishes that for me. It really saves the day. One of my best beauty secrets is that I spray Cheirosa 62 Perfume Mist on the top of the cream. That combo is undefeated, that makes me smell amazing. Every time I hug somebody on the red carpet, they’re always just complimenting my smell. My daughter Hazel, I actually also spray Cheirosa 62 on her that I feel like helps comfort her at school too, because she smells like mama. To me, it smells like summer in a bottle. It is my favorite gourmand. That’s one of my best-kept secrets. You are so welcome, because you’re gonna get so many compliments. Billboard Women in Music is super, super important. It’s very beautiful when women stick together.
