Echosmith siblings Sydney and Noah Sierota test their knowledge and see how well they actually know each other.

Sydney SierotaHey, we’re Echosmith and we are here to find out, how well we know each other. He is my brother. So you’d hope pretty well.

Noah SierotaLet’s find out.

ProducerWho’s the best dancer?

Sydney SierotaDepends on what kind of dancing we’re talking about, if we’re talking about noodle-y dance moves, I feel like it’s you.

Noah SierotaI’m the king of the noodle dance. Yeah,

Sydney SierotaYou’re kind of like a noodle vibe. If we were to go to like a salsa class and learn something, I probably would pick it up a little quicker.

Noah SiertoaSydney when we were kids did a ballet class. She was trying to do it. She was holding the bar, and she fell and hit her head.

Sydney SierotaThat doesn’t have anything to do with dance and dance ability. That’s just being clumsy.

ProducerWho is most likely to cry in front of fans?

Sydney SierotaI’m most likely in general, I don’t even think I’ve really seen you cry.

Noah SierotaYou’ve seen me cry.

Sydney SierotaWhen?

Noah SierotaI don’t know when I was a kid.

Sydney SierotaExactly.

ProducerWho’s most likely to be late to the studio?

Noah SierotaIt’s her, she’s always late, not just to the studio, but in life.

Sydney SierotaI am a little bit late. But when we were making the new album, I lived all the way in San Diego and I was driving to L.A., it was at his house most of the time. So he had a very short commute and I had two plus hours without traffic. But you know, if you have a little tension in the studio, because you’re like a little bit behind or whatever, it kind of makes more magic happen.

Latin star Pedro Capó opens up about his latest album, La Neta, going on tour, life after the success of his track “Calma,” new music and more.Pedro Capo:Out of the blue, unexpectedly. It wasn’t supposed to be a single. It wasn’t written with that, you know, looking for that either, that one was absolutely special.

Hi, I’m Pedro Capo and this is Billboard News.

Leila Cobo:Pedro Capo, welcome to Billboard News!

Pedro Capo:Thank you! Happy to be here! Happy to see you! Thanks for having me!

Leila Cobo:Likewise. And now you’re back with ‘La Neta’ tour. This is the first tour since the onset of the pandemic for you.

Pedro Capo:Yeah, yeah. Happy… happy that we finally got here.

Leila Cobo:Tell us about that tour.

Pedro Capo:Yes. Well, we started in Spain, we did four cities over there. And it was a huge success. Every city sold out. We’re now going to Argentina, which they all sold out. I feel like ‘La Neta’ is that you know, the little boat that could, and then we’re going to Mexico and we’re going to be coming to the (United) States so we should be here in October. Very excited about that. ‘La Neta’ was a different- is a different sound. And I feel like it marks a road ahead for me.

Leila Cobo:How so?

Pedro Capo:Because sonically I was coming out of the whole “Calma” thing, which was beautiful, amazing. “Calma” had, you know, happened at such an interesting moment. The pandemic came, I kind of got lost in my sound for a little bit, which is part of our process, I’d say. And ‘La Neta’ was something that I record and produced and write in its entirety in my house. Very personal.Watch the full interview above.

Wouldn’t it be so much easier to pay attention in class if the subject was your favorite pop star? Imagine taking notes on Taylor Swift lyrics instead of calculus, reviewing flash cards about Kanye West‘s impact on pop culture instead of biology, or taking a quiz on Miley Cyrus‘ fashion statements instead of geography. For […]

On her new song “bad idea right?,” Olivia Rodrigo tries to talk herself out of a late-night reunion with her ex — with “talk” being the operative word. The latest taste of Rodrigo’s upcoming sophomore album GUTS (due Sept. 8) dropped last week, and the verses and chorus are almost exclusively spoken, with only a […]

CiaraOkay? I’m not the best at being fast in these moments but I’m gonna do my best.

Tetris KellyWell the first one is easy. We both know this. Where you from from?

CiaraWell see from I’m from I was gonna say Atlanta is not Atlanta as they will say, Well, I’m from Atlanta, but technically Decatur, Georgia, and I grew up in Riverdale.

CiaraI’m so Atlanta, I’m not gonna say it’s not cause I’m so Atlanta.

Tetris KellyWhat’s your sign?

CiaraMy sign? Scorpio.

CiaraHow you walkin’ into the door. How do you lookin’? You gotta come through with the mmh mmh? Come through with the oooh. I think dating pet peeve, I don’t know. I mean, I thank the Lord I don’t have to think about these things.

Tetris KellyShe’s like I’m blessed. We know you are. Alright what was your dream job as a kid?

CiaraDream job as a kid? I wanted to be an entertainer when it was all said and done. But when I was really young, I wanted to be a lawyer.

Tetris KellyOh!

CiaraI don’t even know what that was all about.

Tetris KellyI can see you in the suits killing it.

CiaraListen, I low-key have a little lawyer me right now. You know, I’m saying I’m using that little part of me too. When I was younger, you would hear like lawyers made a lot of money. So that was like I wanted to be a lawyer when I was young. I didn’t really have like the full context of the job. I would be all over the place. I would be fired.

Ever heard a song and thought, “Wow, that didn’t age well”? So have a few of your favorite artists … about their own music.
There’s Hayley Williams, who’s long been vocal about her aversion to Paramore‘s own “Misery Business,” even choosing to temporarily retire the track from the band’s live shows in spite of it being one of their most successful songs to date, peaking at No. 26 on the Billboard Hot 100. There’s Taylor Swift, who back in the day toed the line on her debut album’s single “Picture to Burn,” which included a since-updated lyric (now infamous among Swifties who enjoy digging up old copies of the album just to see whether it includes the original words) joking about spreading rumors your ex-boyfriend is gay to get revenge.
Swift also recently updated another lyric, this time the Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) album cut “Better Than Revenge.” In the years since the original Speak Now was released in October 2010, critics accused Swift of “slut-shaming” her romantic rival in the lyrics, when she sings: “She’s not a saint and she’s not what you think, she’s an actress, whoa/ She’s better known for the things that she does on the mattress, whoa.” In the re-recorded version, Swift keeps the first line the same but changes the latter line to: “He was a moth to the flame, she was holding the matches, whoa.”
Then there’s Lizzo, who rectified the use of a controversial word on her song “Grrrls” in less than three days time. The second single off of her album Special was quickly met with criticism over its use of the ableist term “spaz” — something the “Rumors” star didn’t take lightly. “It’s been brought to my attention that there is a harmful word in my new song,” she said in a statement. “Let me make one thing clear: I never want to promote derogatory language. As a fat black woman in America, I’ve had many hurtful words used against me so I overstand the power words can have (whether intentionally or in my case, unintentionally).
“I’m proud to say there’s a new version of GRRRLS with a lyric change,” she continued. “This is a result of me listening and taking action. As an influential artist I’m dedicated to being part of the change I’ve been waiting to see in the world.”
Weeks later, Beyonce faced the same criticism for using the same word in her Renaissance song “Heated.” Days later, her spokesperson told Billboard that the term would be “replaced.”
From sexism to homophobia, ableism to racial prejudice, there are songs containing wording that simply doesn’t jive with the world’s modern perspectives. See how 10 artists — from the above mentioned to the Black Eyed Peas, Michael Jackson and beyond — have taken steps to move their music forward by changing offensive language.
