LeBron James, in the eyes of many, will go down as one of the best basketball players to ever lace them up and the accolades are numerous. Still, King James cast doubt if he’d return to the court for his 21st NBA season but that chatter was silenced at this year’s ESPYS Award ceremony.
LeBron James, 38, received the Best Record-Breaking Performance ESPY award Wednesday night (July 12) but before he went to deliver his moving acceptance speech, James’ wife, Savannah James introduced her husband to the Dolby Theatre crowd in Los Angeles in humorous fashion. Mrs. James was flanked by their three children, sons Bronny and Bryce, and daughter Zhuri.
James showed all of the poise of a veteran as he took the stage and thanked his supporters while taking note of his long list of detractors. In his speech, James told the crowd that his devotion to the game is still strong as it ever was and despite his advanced age, he still has a lot left to give. And it was in this speech that the kid from Akron, Ohio let the world know that he was running it back.
“I don’t care how many more points I score or what I can or cannot do on the floor,” James said. “The real question for me is, ‘Can I play without cheating this game?’ The day I can’t give everything on the floor is the day I’ll be done. Lucky for you guys, that day is not today.”
Among the attendees were some of James’ former teammates such as Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, and others. James’ speech was met with approving nods and applause from the crowd, and the news certainly delighted Lakers Nation who all assumed that after the team was swept by the Denver Nuggets in this year’s Western Conference playoffs, James would retire.
On Twitter, LeBron James saw his name trending with people celebrating the news along with some requisite hate, something James mentioned in his speech. We’ve got reactions from all sides below.

SpringHill — the lifestyle brand within The SpringHill Company, the entertainment development and production company founded by LeBron James and Maverick Carter in 2020 — aired the second season of its On Site performance series on Tuesday (June 20).
Airing every Tuesday on SpringHill’s YouTube channel, On Site puts a spotlight on emerging, independent artists and gives them a platform to deliver raw, intimate performances. This season features 21 artists such as Grace Weber, Jordan Hawkins, Anessa Strings, Your Grandparents, Reason, Alaina Castillo and more.
The season 2 premiere episode of On Site follows LA-based, St. Petersburg-bred soulful R&B singer-songwriter Phabo, who performed “Luv Songs (Unruly)” from his new sophomore album Don’t Get Too Crazy that was released last Friday. “Performing on this platform is growth to me. To survive as a Black man long enough to see my favorite athlete create a platform for my voice to be heard, that’s crazy. It feels surreal. I feel like it’s my duty to this for my favorite basketball player of all time,” he tells Billboard, while later musing over another “GOAT:” Grammy-winning producer Troy Taylor. “[‘Luv Songs (Unruly)’] is super R&B to me. Troy Taylor produced it, who’s a legend, GOAT, one of my mentors. He came through with the beat, with the vocal production on the song. I felt like it was only right for the world to hear it.”
Krystyn Price-Harrell, general manager/vp of the SpringHill brand, says they filmed On Site‘s pilot season at the end of last year and “went into full production on this particular season” at the beginning of this year, she tells Billboard. While sports-related content is undoubtedly The SpringHill Company’s strong suit, Price-Harrell and her team have been working on building out the four pillars of the SpringHill lifestyle brand: fashion, music, art and entertainment. Under its music pillar, SpringHill puts people onto new artists across major genres like hip-hop, R&B, pop, punk, Latin and more, calling back to the brand’s mission of inspiring the next generation. On Site marks the first music-centered program under the SpringHill brand.
“I’m very, very passionate about music and identifying the next person in music. So Jade [Avalos], our creative producer, we all came in a room where we were like, ‘Let’s figure out how we could really hone in on the music space.’ And we came up with On Site,” she says. “For us, the differentiating factor is independent artists. They don’t get the shine that they deserve. SpringHill is really about empowering that next generation, so for us, this was really an opportunity to hone in on that find that white space in music to identify who we’re placing our bets on, who we want to have that consumer journey with, and that’s ultimately how we got here.”
There’s certainly no shortage of shine on the indie artists, who are showered in color-alternating light beams that cover the interiors of the square box performance space (think Drake‘s “Hotline Bling” music video) that Avalos conceptualized and built in three days. “She wanted to do a box. I said, ‘Let’s do the box. Let’s make it different. Let’s create something that really pulls you into the music and the sound and through the colors,’” says Price-Harrell.
In his future episode, LA-based, Richmond-bred soulful rapper Peter $un cools off under the baby blue lights as he performs his scorching, unreleased single, “Burn Like Fire.” “I really like what they’re doing, giving rising artists a platform to shine and a platform to express themselves,” he tells Billboard, adding that he was tapped to perform on On Site by Avalos, whom he’s known since she worked at All Def Media. “I made [‘Burn Like Fire’] based off of a past relationship, just on eggshells in a relationship and being honest with somebody and being open and keeping it real with ’em and how hard that is. I was trying to explain that dynamic of when you know things aren’t right between each other but it’s hard to say ’cause that’s your comfort zone and you still love her, you still love him, but you know things are still falling apart.”
For $un, On Site is another stage he can share with his friends who are also independent artists. During the week prior to filming his “Burn Like Fire” performance, he performed at Anderson .Paak‘s fifth annual .Paak House charitable music event on the HUE SOUND Stage for rising artists alongside Zyah Belle and Kenyon Dixon, whom $un considers to be “family now” and who will also be featured in future On Site performances.
“We’re shooting with some amazing, amazing musicians. Talent’s my bread and butter, but in this new role, taking those relationships and really working with them across the business is very important as well,” says Price-Harrell. Prior to her promotion as general manager/vp of the SpringHill brand at the beginning of 2023, she worked her way up the company’s talent relations department, from senior director to vice president. Now, she works with the talent team on looking into the company’s existing relationships with artists and looking anywhere online from Instagram to TikTok to discover new artists they can spotlight.
“Diversity is very, very important,” Price-Harrell adds. “For us, [it’s about] really making sure we looked cross-functionally at the different genres of music and making sure we touched on how many women do we have? What about this artist in the hip-hop space? We had two musicians today come in and they sang in Spanish. So we’re making sure we’re touching on everyone to make sure the audience is getting fed across all genres of music.”

LeBron James will have to endure a long offseason of people questioning his greatness from the comfort of their couches and game controllers despite willing the seventh-seeded Los Angeles Lakers to the Western Conference Finals. The Denver Nuggets, the top-seeded team in the Western Conference, swept the Lakers in their best-of-seven series and some NBA fans are unfairly making LeBron James the fall guy.
LeBron James, who turns 39 this year, spent years carrying the Cleveland Cavaliers on his shoulders and doing so at an elite level for years. After two decades of basketball, wear and tear is natural and the high-flying exploits aren’t there every night but all of the greats have off nights.
James didn’t have an off night on Monday, leading all scorers with 40 points and remaining on the floor for the entire game. James supporting cast of Davis and Reaves did what they could but they were outmatched by Nikola Jokic, who led all Nuggets scorers with 30 along with 13 assists and 14 rebounds, and Jamal Murray, who poured in 25 points and was electrifying in the WCF.
You don’t even need to be a fan of James or his team to realize what he was able to do while pushing the age of 40 is incredible. There are a few NBA players who spent 20 seasons in the league and many of them are in the Basketball Hall of Fame. James will join those ranks once he decides to hang up his sneakers for good and hopefully, he holds off on doing so after the bitter sting of the loss settles down.
The comparisons to the great Michael Jordan are inevitable and people making a case for LeBron being an inferior player will have all their stats ready for an imaginary showdown neither man asked for.
The jeers from the armchair athletes of the world will cease to matter and besides, anyone who needs to take off their shoes and then put them in their laps to tie them can’t rightly call LeBron James a bum.
But they’re certainly going to try.

LeBron James is no stranger to criticism after a tough loss considering he remains as one of the most recognizable figures in the NBA. After the Los Angeles Lakers fell to the Denver Nuggets in Game 2 of the NBA Western Conference Finals, fans on Twitter are giving LeBron James and Anthony Davis the business.
Nuggets big man Nikola Jokic is the top name for Denver but it was the exploits of Jamal Murray that lifted the team over James and company. Murray poured in 37 points in a fourth-quarter explosion where he scored 23 points after his team was down in the second half. Jokic, continuing his uncanny triple-double production, dropping 23 points on 9-21 shooting and hauling in 17 rebounds with 12 assists.
On the other side, James scored 22 points on 9-19 shooting and dropped 10 assists, and pulled down nine boards. Davis made just four of 15 shots to score 18 along with 14 rebounds. Austin Reaves, once again showing expert poise went eight for 16 from the field with 22 points and was joined by Rui Hachimura who dropped 21 points.
Nuggets head coach Mike Malone expressed some frustration on how his team has been covered in the press with all the attention going towards the Lakers. While Los Angeles remains to be a marquee team, few analysts predicted them to be squaring off with anyone this deep into the playoffs.
After Nikola Jokic’s monster game in the opener, his pick-and-roll partner Jamal Murray took the spotlight in the Western Conference finals Thursday night.
“You win Game 1 and all everybody talked about was the Lakers,” Malone said. “Let’s be honest, the national narrative was, ‘Hey, the Lakers are fine. They’re down 1-0, but they figured something out.’ No one talked about how Nikola just had [a] historic performance. He’s got 13 (playoff) triple-doubles now, third all-time. What he’s doing is just incredible.”
On Twitter, LeBron James and Anthony Davis are getting blasted for their performance. We’ve got the tweets below.

Drake loves sports, especially his good friend, Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James. So it should come as no surprise that the Canadian Hip-Hop star is searching for a rare Bron Bron collectible.
Drizzy’s search for an extremely rare LeBron James “Triple Logoman” card takes center stage in the first episode of the new Netflix series King Of Collectibles: The Goldin Touch.

In the “Hail the King” episode, the “God’s Plan” crafter links up with Goldin Auctions founder Ken Goldin. The show highlights Goldin’s search for rare collectibles and the insane prices they fetch. The card Drake wants so badly features James and every team he has won an NBA championship with. What makes this card so unique is that only one exists.
Drake hopes for a win when he opens a box of sealed cards, which sees him land an Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway Logoman card reportedly worth $50,000, plus Larry Bird and Isaiah Thomas cards. Drake also pulls out a very rare Michael Jordan card he can add to his collection.
Sadly he doesn’t find the card he is looking for in the episode, but that doesn’t mean his search will end there.
Drake Loves Betting On Sports
As of late, Drake has become a gambling man, constantly showing off his betting tickets for big fights, NBA games, and other huge sporting events.
His propensity to bet on specific teams has also become sort of a bad omen leading some to believe that if Drake’s some serious change on you, more than likely, you’re going to lose, dubbing it the Drake Curse.
The 6 God lost $2 million after betting on Israel Adesanya to beat Alex Pereira at UFC 281 in November 2022. The exact opposite happened, and Drake got the blame for Adesanya’s defeat.
Adesanya did get his revenge on his rival, finally getting himself a win against Pereira at UFC 287.
You can watch a trailer for King Of Collectibles: The Goldin Touch, where it also seems we will see Logan Paul opening boxes of Pokemon cards, yup, the same Logan Paul who paid $3.5 million in fake Pokemon cards.

Many thought the so-called “Chief Twit” was bluffing when he said he would snatch away people’s blue checkmarks if they didn’t subscribe to Twitter Blue. Well, he did it, and, of course, it was an absolute sh*t show.
While people were puff, puff, passing on 4/20, Phony Stark, aka Elon Musk, did start taking away legacy blue checkmarks. One by one, celebrities and other notable figures began to point out that their blue checkmarks were gone vowing to never subscribe to Twitter Blue and pointing out to their followers, “they have been verified.”
But, some also noticed that other celebrities still had their blue checkmarks well after the social media platform took away legacy checkmarks. TMZ reports that Soulja Boy, Khloe Kardashian, Taylor Swift, O.J. Simpson, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ryan Reynolds, The Weeknd, Sia, Nick Carter, LL Cool J, and John Cena still have their blue checks potentially meaning they are paying the $8 subscription price.
When you click the blue checks next to their names, the description reads, “This account is verified because they are subscribed to Twitter Blue and verified their phone number.”
Remember that a blue checkmark is not the only perk of a Twitter Blue subscription. You can also post longer videos, drop longer tweets and edit them after you hit send.
Elon Musk Is Paying For Certain Celebs Twitter Blue Subscriptions
But there is also some funny business going on as well. Some celebs, like author Stephen King who still has his blue checkmark, immediately alerted his followers that he is not paying for Twitter Blue despite having his still.
LeBron James, who is notoriously cheap, told his followers that he was not paying to keep his blue checkmark also still has his.
“LeCap,” basically calling Bron Bron a liar, began trending, but it turns out there was a reason he and Stephen King were exemptions to the new stupid rule.
Elon Musk was personally paying for their subscriptions out of his pocket. Musk admitted as much via his account, adding that he also paid for William Shatner’s blue checkmark.
What a mess.
You can see more reactions to the blue checkmark ridiculousness in the gallery below.

As well all know Lebron James is avid fan of Rap. Recently he made it clear that we should all watch out for Connie Diiamond.
As spotted on Vibe Magazine the Bronx talent has impressed one of the National Basketball League’s most prominent figure. This week the Los Angeles Lakers superstar co-signed her freestyle on Ludacris’ iconic “Move Bi***”. He reposted the effort to his Instagram Story saying “Man she bodied that sh*t!!! WHOA”. As expected the mention landed on her radar and she reposted the shout out. “THE KING SAID WHAT HE SAID” her caption read.
And LeBron James was the right, the Drill MC in fact did her thing lyrically. “Thinkin’ I owe ’em respect / Well, you better move, bi**h/ Tellin’ you now, I ain’t one to fool with / When they hit the corner, we get to duckin’ / And they airin’ the news clip / Disturbin’ the peace while we get to dumpin’ the heat / They softer than cool whip, I the elite.” Currently Connie Diamond is signed to Def Jam Records. Ludacris has yet to comment on the homage.

In an interview, NBA superstar LeBron James expressed his disappointment over the Los Angeles Lakers not being able to trade for Kyrie Irving.
For LeBron James, the chance to team up once again with his former teammate Kyrie Irving on the Los Angeles Lakers has been a desire since the offseason. It seemed more possible as the team made an offer when Irving requested a trade from the Brooklyn Nets last Friday (Feb. 3rd), but the Nets ultimately traded him to the Dallas Mavericks with the deal becoming official on Monday (Feb. 6th). James would soon write on Twitter cryptically, “Maybe it’s me” as word of the deal went public.
Sitting down for an interview with reporter Michael Wilbon for the NBA on ESPN, James was candid. “I can’t sit here and say I’m not disappointed on not being able to land such a talent,” James said. “Someone I had great chemistry with, I know I got great chemistry with on the floor, that can help you win championships in my mind, in my eyes. But my focus has shifted now, my focus has shifted back to where it should be and that’s this club now, and what we have now.”
Wilbon responded with surprise, “That’s a quick pivot LeBron.” The four-time league MVP agreed, saying “I don’t get too excited about the possibilities of things that can be. I kind of envision myself on what it can, but I don’t invest it all the way into it until I know it’s happening and when it does not happen, I’m back locked in on the job at hand. James and Irving were teammates on the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2014 to 2017, reaching the Finals in all three years and winning the franchise’s only title over the Golden State Warriors in 2016.
James is on the verge of breaking the all-time scoring record, held by former Lakers great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. The current Lakers team, however, has been the source of constant discussion as they sit at 13th in the Western Conference despite another tremendous All-Star season from the 38-year-old forward. James has reportedly been pushing the team’s front office to make moves to improve the roster to make the playoffs as center Anthony Davis has struggled with injuries and Russell Westbrook has been shifted to a role off the bench.

A game-worn jersey from NBA superstar LeBron James has set a record for being the priciest of its kind ever sold on the open market.
According to reports, the vaunted Sotheby’s firm auctioned off the current Los Angeles Lakers forward’s game jersey which was worn during Game 7 of the 2013 NBA Finals, which was won by the Miami Heat team that he was a member of. It was worn as James led his Heat team with 37 points and 12 rebounds in a clutch performance to win the second of back-to-back titles against the San Antonio Spurs. James would also go on to be named Finals MVP after the game, which earned him his second such honor in a row. The jersey was purchased for $3.7 million, which broke the record for a game-worn James top. That was previously set at $630,000, which was the price paid for his 2020 All-Star Game jersey.

“Today’s tremendous result comes at a pivotal time in LeBron James’ career, where he is in arm’s reach of clenching the all-time points record—one of the NBA’s most revered accolades,” said Sotheby’s head of streetwear and collectibles Brahm Wachter in a statement. “Just months after the record-breaking sale of Michael Jordan ‘Last Dance’ 1998 NBA finals jersey, this successful sale of another incomparable legend’s jersey—one of the most significant jerseys to ever hit the auction block—further proves that the demand for sports memorabilia is at an all-time high, and that the magic of sports continues to transcend and ignite fans and collectors alike.”
The aforementioned “Last Dance” jersey worn by Jordan stands atop the mountain of the most expensive jerseys auctioned off, going for a staggering $10.1 million dollars. The closest jersey to that mark was the “Hand of God” jersey worn by the late Diego Maradona during that pivotal 1986 World Cup match against England – that was sold for $9.3 million at an auction in May.
News of the sale comes as James is currently on another history-making tear, being 117 points shy of breaking the NBA’s all-time scoring record held by the legendary Lakers center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. It is believed that the 20-year forward may obtain that record within the next week.
