Loretta Lynn Estate To Be Managed by Sandbox Succession

Sandbox Entertainment Group’s estate management division, Sandbox Succession, is now representing the Loretta Lynn estate, it was announced Thursday (Aug. 24).

The division will manage the Country Music Hall of Famer’s estate, in partnership with the Lynn family, in areas including film, TV, theater, music recordings, licensing and more.

Led by Jason Owen, Sandbox Entertainment oversees the careers of artists including Kelsea Ballerini, Faith Hill and Little Big Town. Sandbox Succession, which launched in 2021, manages the estates of Johnny Cash, June Carter Cash, the Carter Family and NASCAR Hall of Famer Richard Petty.

“Loretta Lynn is the original Queen of Country music, and it is a true privilege that her family has entrusted Sandbox Succession to preserve her precious legacy,” Sandbox Entertainment CEO Owen said of Lynn, who died on Oct. 4, 2022, at age 90.

“We are happy to partner with Sandbox Succession to not only represent but also perpetuate the amazing legacy of our mother’s career,” added the Lynn family.

“With Sandbox Succession, we strive to place our clients at the intersection of historical importance and cultural relevance,” added Sandbox Succession president Josh Matas. “We are thrilled to apply our proven strategies to bring Loretta Lynn to new audiences and celebrate her further with existing fans.”

Following Lynn’s passing in 2022, Sandbox Productions and CMT gathered artists to celebrate Lynn’s life and career with a public memorial service, titled Coal Miner’s Daughter: A Celebration of the Life and Music of Loretta Lynn. The service aired on CMT from Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry House.

Sandbox Succession also recently revealed Johnny Cash: The Official Concert Experience, a tour that features video footage of Cash from episodes of The Johnny Cash TV Show with the accompaniment of a live band and vocalists. Also in the works are a documentary on the life of June Carter Cash and a television series honoring Petty’s racing legacy.

Young Dominican Pianist Receives Nicky Jam Scholarship via Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation

“When I received the news, I could not believe this was happening to me!,” Cordero tells Billboard Español. “I feel very fortunate to have been selected for the Nicky Jam Scholarship and very happy at the same time to see that all my hard work is yielding results.”

The four-year scholarship holds a maximum value of $200,000 and it will allow Cordero to pursue a bachelor’s degree at Berklee College of Music in Boston starting this fall. Also known as the Prodigy Scholarship, the grant was created in 2014 to support music education in the field of Latin music.

“My goals are to take my music around the world — and I plan to maximize this scholarship, [which] is more than a scholarship, it is a wonderful opportunity to expand my horizons and grow each day as a musician and person,” adds Cordero.

“[Cordero] is a hell of a piano player. I think he’s a music phenomenon, and the humility that he has doesn’t go with the talent, or the super ego when he plays the piano,” Jam tells Billboard Español. “There’s nothing that feels better than helping out and doing your bit, and making a young person achieve their dreams. I was a dreamer too, so fulfilling a dreamer’s dream — for me, there’s nothing more rewarding than that.”

Back when the Nicky Jam Scholarship was announced in December, the Puerto Rican juggernaut told Billboard, “Maybe the next Nicky Jam, Bad Bunny or Beethoven comes out of this. You never know!” This scholarship follows the Latin hitmaker’s performance at the 23rd Annual Latin Grammy Awards, alongside Foundation scholarship winners, where he pledged to support aspiring musicians.

The Latin Grammy winner is a pioneer in the música urbana landscape. He has been at the forefront of reggaetón since the early 2000s, helping the genre kick off to global acclaim. “It’s a blessing to be one of the guys that knocked on doors for [reggaetón] to exist, and to see where it’s at today,” the Puerto Rican hitmaker told Billboard Español in May. “I just feel like a proud dad — like if I had a little baby and I was trying to make my baby be somebody, and my baby finally is somebody.”

“Nicky is a special human being characterized by his humility and big heart. He is truly committed to sharing his passion for music and giving back to the next generation of Latin music makers on their journey to achieving their dreams,” Raquel “Rocky” Egusquiza, executive director of the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation, tells Billboard Español.

She continues, “Since our inception nearly 10 years ago, our mission has been to support and cultivate the next generation of Latin music creators. With the extraordinary generosity of successful artists such as Nicky Jam, we have the unique privilege of fostering the education of future generations of Latin music makers, paving the way for their dreams to flourish and carry forward the rich legacy of Latin music.”

The Cultural Foundation was established by the Latin Recording Academy nine years ago to continue enhancing international awareness and appreciation of Latin music and its significant contributions, as well as fostering the next Latin music star. Previous artists that have been a part of this scholarship include Sofia Carson (2022), Juanes (2021), Julio Iglesias (2020), Emilio and Gloria Estefan (2019), Carlos Vives (2018), Miguel Bosé (2017), Juan Luis Guerra (2016) and Enrique Iglesias (2015).

“We are excited to see artists from different genres give back, especially this year, with Nicky Jam being an urban artist,” Egusquiza mentions. Nicky Jam is the first música urbana artist to form part of the Foundation. “Our vision is to be a global champion of music education and empower communities through Latin music and culture. We provide educational opportunities through scholarships, education programs and grants that advance Latin music and celebrate its rich cultural heritage.”

To date, the Cultural Foundation has donated more than $9.3 million with the support of the Latin Recording Academy’s members, artists, corporate sponsors and other donors.

Joe Budden & Gillie Da Kid Float Boxing Match Idea

Bike Rides For Black Lives With Nigel Sylvester

Joe Budden & Gillie Da Kid are both former rappers turned podcasters who found success in the broadcast world and had a mild feud that ended with the pair squashing the beef. In that olive branch moment, both Joe Budden and Gillie Da Kid floated the idea of a boxing match with Gillie claiming he’d put the beats on Budden.

Joe Budden was a recent guest on the Million Dollaz Worth Of Game podcast with Gillie Da Kid alongside his partner and family member Wallo. At various times during the appearance, Gillie and Budden took shots at each other, which reached a head earlier this year.

During a broadcast of his eponymously named podcast, Budden clowned Gillie for having a small bedroom window in hilarious fashion. Gillie came back with his own barbs too and it appeared that the so-called “Pod Wars” Budden often references on his show was truly underway.

The beef was settled soon as Budden joined MDWOG but Gillie used the moment to roast Budden’s fashion senses in relentless fashion. Budden seemed unbothered by Gillie’s swipes and retorted with some of his own.

As the conversation wore on, the celebrity boxing match idea was floated with Gillie saying he’d mop Budden with the hands. Gillie Da Kid has demonstrated his hand skills before during a live taping of the podcast with Floyd Mayweather as a guest. Budden has also famously shared that he’s no slouch with the mitts either. Either way, if this happens, hopefully, they make it a charitable event or something of the sort.

Myke Towers Captures Third Week Atop Billboard Argentina Hot 100

Myke Towers claims a third week atop the Billboard Argentina Hot 100 chart as “Lala” crowns the Aug. 26-dated ranking. The song matches his three week-champ “La Jeepeta,” with Nio García, Anuel AA, Brray and Juanka, while “Bandido,” with Juhn, remains his longest-charting title to date, with seven weeks at the summit in 2021.

Maria Becerra’s “Corazón Vacío” trades places with one of her own, as the song rises 3-2 and sends “Los Del Espacio,” with LIT Killah, FMK, Rusherking, Duki, Emilia, Tiago PZK and Big One, to No. 3. Plus, BM’s “Ni Una Ni Dos” advances 5-4, while Quevedo’s “Columbia” dips 4-5.

The Hot Shot Debut of the week goes to La Delio Valdez and Ke Personajes whose collab “Adios Amor” starts at No. 50.

Meanwhile, Karol G adds new career entries as “Mi Ex Tenía Razón” bows at No. 60 and “S91” starts at No. 97. Both songs are part of her latest album, Mañana Será Bonito (Bichota Season) which debuted at No. 1 on Top Latin Albums and earned the Colombian a second top 10 on the overall Billboard 200.

Elsewhere, Uruguayan singer-songwriter Matías Valdez and Argentinian La K’onga’s “Latidos” scores the week’s Greatest Gainer honor, as the collab climbs from No. 83 to No. 65.

Three other acts debut songs this week, starting with Trueno, who adds a 15th career placement with “Tranky Funky” at No. 76. American singer-songwriter and producer Jere Klein, makes his first chart visit with his Nicki Nicole team-up, “X Eso BB” at No. 83. Lastly, La China and ECKO’s “Pasatiempo” launches at No. 88.

Nick Cannon Tells Bre Tiesi That She Makes ‘All the Money’ in New Comedy Skit

Nick Cannon and Bre Tiesi are all about the fun!

The duo shared a new comedy skit with Entertainment Tonight on Thursday (Aug. 24), in which Cannon is seen trying to fall asleep as Tiesi scrolls through her phone, which has a bright screen that distracts her partner. “I’m trying to sleep,” Cannon tells the Selling Sunset star, who explains that she has to finish some emails and proceeds to catch up on social media content.

“I guess you making all the money,” Cannon then says. “Your bread, your bed.”

After a while, Cannon takes the bright screen problem into his own hands, pulling out a solar panel and accidentally lighting Tiesi’s side of the room on fire. Tiesi notices, and desperately tries to wake Cannon up, though he’s seen sleeping peacefully. She jumps up and runs off screen to handle the fire, ending the skit, which you can watch in full here.

The couple shares son Legendary Love, who was born in June 2022. “So, here’s the thing that I know everyone wants to argue with me about — but he makes his own schedule. He can show up every day, when he stops from work. He can come at night,” Tiesi previously said of their relationship in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “So, he’s here every week, and especially when he’s home, he’s here. So, it’s not a set schedule, we don’t have to plan things, but he’s very present and he’s at anything and everything I ask him to be at. So, I’m very happy. He’s very supportive.

The Masked Singer host also shares twins Monroe and Moroccan with ex-wife Mariah Carey; twin sons Zion and Zillion, as well as daughter Beautiful Zeppelin with Abby De La Rosa; Golden Sagon, Powerful Queen and Rise Messiah with Brittany Bell; Zen — who died in December 2021 — and Halo Marie with Alyssa Scott; and Onyx Ice Cole with LaNisha Cole.

Doja Cat Is Heading Into ‘Scarlet’ Album Cycle With a New Management Structure

As Doja Cat teases a Sept. 1 release on her Instagram and prepares to drop her third studio album, she and her co-manager Gordan Dillard are doing it with a new business arrangement in place.

The “Say So” singer parted ways with the management arm of Wassim “Sal” Slaiby’s SALXCO earlier this year, sources say, after her contract expired with the company. She follows Dillard who left SALXCO last year for an executive A&R role at Capitol Music Group, while continuing his management role with Doja Cat. He is co-managing her with Josh Kaplan at Good Day Management.

Kaplan has been working with’s management Doja Cat since 2018 and Dillard since spring of 2019.

Though Doja Cat is no longer on Slaiby’s management roster, she and her managers will continue to utilize SALXCO’s artist services, sources say, and the various parties remain on good terms.

SALXCO continues to be the management home of The Weeknd, Metro Boomin, Diddy, Swedish House Mafia and Bebe Rexha, among many others.

A representative for Doja Cat declined to comment.

Doja Cat is fresh off the release of two summer singles: the hip-hop-forward “Attention,” which debuted at No. 31 on the Billboard Hot 100 in June, and the Dionne Warwick-sampling “Paint the Town Red,” which recently bowed at No. 15 (and stayed there in its current second week). Both are expected to appear on the star’s upcoming fourth album on RCA, believed to be titled Scarlet. In a cryptic Instagram post early Wednesday (Aug. 23), Doja hinted at something coming “9.1.23” — with no further context.

A 24-date “Scarlet Tour” kicks off Oct. 31.

The new album follows her 2021 album, Planet Her, which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and produced a number of Hot 100 top-10s including “Kiss Me More,” “Need to Know,” “Woman,” and “Vegas.” She scored a No. 1 hit with the Nicki Minaj-featured version of “Say So,” originally off her 2019 sophomore breakthrough album, Hot Pink.

In a recent Harper’s Bazaar cover story, the rapper-singer-songwriter-producer expressed a desire to add more hyphens to her job title. “I would have to stop the music for a minute,” she said. “But I would be down to immerse myself in acting for a certain period of time. I love comedies and action films.”

Trump Hires Gunna’s Lawyer To Represent Him in Atlanta RICO Case Ahead of Surrender

Facing a sweeping racketeering case in Atlanta, former President Donald Trump has hired attorney Steven Sadow, a veteran Georgia criminal defense attorney who just represented Gunna in the high-profile criminal case against Young Thug and other rappers.

Sadow, who has also represented Rick Ross, T.I. and Usher in the past, filed legal papers Thursday morning (Aug. 24) in Fulton County Court stating that he was “lead counsel of record for Donald John Trump.” When reached by Billboard, Sadow confirmed that had been hired to represent the former president.

“The President should never have been indicted,” says Sadow. “He is innocent of all the charges brought against him. We look forward to the case being dismissed or, if necessary, an unbiased, open-minded jury finding the President not guilty. Prosecutions intended to advance or serve the ambitions and careers of political opponents of the President have no place in our justice system.”

Trump, who is expected to surrender to prosecutors on Thursday, is facing 13 felony counts as part of a massive racketeering case against 19 defendants accused of trying to illegally overturn his 2020 election loss in Georgia. Fulton County DA Fani Willis filed the charges under Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, a state-level version of the federal RICO law used to prosecute drug cartels and Mafia families.

That’s the same RICO statute that the same Fulton County prosecutor used in May 2022 to indict Young Thug, Gunna and dozens of others over their alleged involvement in a violent Atlanta street gang. The case claims that their “YSL” is not really a record label called “Young Stoner Life,” but a criminal enterprise called “Young Slime Life” that committed murders, carjackings, armed robberies, drug dealing and other crimes.

Represented by Sadow, Gunna pleaded guilty in December to exit that case by taking a so-called Alford plea — a maneuver that allows a defendant to enter a formal admission of guilt while still maintaining their innocence.

At the time, Gunna insisted that the deal did not involve cooperation with prosecutors. But when he entered his plea, Gunna admitted in court that YSL was both “a music label and a gang,” and that he had “personal knowledge that members or associates of YSL have committed crimes in furtherance of the gang.”

Young Thug and many others are still facing those charges. A trial technically kicked off earlier this year but has faced long delays in selecting a jury to hear the case and has not substantively begun yet. Young Thug has repeatedly been denied pre-trial release on bond.

Sadow will take over representing Trump from Drew Findling, another Atlanta lawyer with an extensive history representing rappers in criminal matters, including Gucci Mane, the members of Migos and Cardi B in her recent microphone-throwing incident in Las Vegas.

Though Findling has not formally departed the case yet, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed to Billboard that he will no longer be retained by the former president. Findling himself did not return a request for comment on Thursday.

Trump is expected to surrender Thursday evening at Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, though he’ll only be there briefly before he is released on a negotiated bond. While some of the defendants in the YSL case are being held in the same building, Young Thug is detained in neighboring Cobb County Jail.

The refillable, magnetic, leakproof, waterproof and airtight Capsule “makes traveling so much easier,” according to one customer review. “Business trips are less stressful now,” the customer noted.

The ergonomically-designed Capsule is made from 20% recycled ocean-bound plastic and 30% “excess manufacturing materials” according to the company’s website.

The Originals 6 Capsule Set

$76 $84 10% off% OFF

Each Capsule holds 0.56 ounces giving you enough room for serums, toners, cleansers and other skincare products, shampoos, conditioners, supplements, cotton rounds and more. The Capsule can hold up to 10 uses of oil cleansers making them useful for a weekend getaway and maybe longer trips of up to a week.

The Capsule is available in several different colors including eucalyptus green, lavender, charcoal, terracotta and petal pink. You can also customize the color, magnetic top and labels.

The Capsule retails for $14, but the six-piece set is currently on sale for $74, which might seem like a lot to spend on travel products, but they’re more durable than some of the cheaper options that you’d find at retailers like Target, Walmart or Amazon that won’t last as long and aren’t as easy to clean, so you’ll probably end up throwing them away and buying replacements. Plus, the Capsule is sustainable.

“They work like a charm,” reads one customer review. “Exactly what I need to travel,” writes another.

“I am someone who travels a lot and contemplated this purchase for a long time as I was content with filling my old travel bottles,” reads another review. “However, I am extremely pleased with my purchase. These are compact, fit much better in my travel bags, and are so much easier to refill. Very pleased with my purchase!”

Customers were also surprised by the size as one reviewer wrote, “This fits way more product than I thought they would and pack easily. Glad I finally went for it! Now I want more!”

Keep Your Cadence offers larger Capsule sets including the Build a System Bundle ($98) and The Bestsellers Bundle ($132).

October London’s ‘Place’ Is at No. 1 on Adult R&B Airplay Chart

Nine weeks into his Billboard chart career, October London scores his first No. 1 on any chart as his single “Back to Your Place” crowns the Adult R&B Airplay chart. The track rises from No. 3 to head the list dated Aug. 26 thanks to a 10% boost in weekly plays that made it the most-played song on reporting U.S. monitored adult R&B radio stations in the week ending Aug. 17, according to Luminate.

October London becomes the third lead artist to top Adult R&B Airplay with a debut entry in 2023, following Ambré (“I’m Baby,” featuring Jvck James) and Ravyn Lenae (“Skin Tight,” featuring Steve Lacy), both of whom led for one week each in May. (Extending to featured roles, James and Brent Faiyaz, featured on Alicia Keys’ two-week leader “Trillions,” also earned their first champs in their first career chart appearances.)

Elsewhere, “Back to Your Place” lifts 16-14 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart, which ranks songs by combined audience totals from adult R&B and mainstream R&B/hip-hop radio stations. There, the song reached a new high of 7.8 million in weekly audience, an 11% improvement from the prior tracking week. Radio gains have driven the song’s fortunes on the Hot R&B Songs chart, which blends radio airplay with streaming and sales for a multi-metric view of the genre’s top songs each week; “Back to Your Place” also rises 16-14 there for a new high.

Alongside its radio gains, “Back to Your Place” has received corresponding gains in sales and streams. The single sold 1,000 downloads in the last tracking week, a 15% increase from the previous frame and sparking its No. 12 re-entry on the R&B Digital Song Sales chart. It also registered its best streaming week in the same tracking period, with 556,000 U.S. official on-demand streams in the same period, up 11% from the previous week.

Rising tides for “Back to Your Place” help October London scale the Emerging Artists chart, where he pushes 30-28 in his fourth week on the list. “Back to Your Place” appears on the singer-songwriter’s debut album, The Rebirth of Marvin, which was released in February.
