Bert Kreischer Talks Going on His Dream Tour: The Fully Loaded Comedy Festival, One of the Year’s Top Touring Comedy Shows

When comedian Bert Kreischer started outlining the concept for his party-driven Fully Loaded Comedy Festival tour, the famed party animal decided to sit down with his thoughts and sketch out a tour agenda like no other — one that would both bring his vision for the ultimate comedy tour to fruition and potentially serve as the outline for his legacy.

“Each summer, I want to surround myself with my favorite humans, which are always going to be comics,” he said. “I want to hang out with my friends and family, tour and have fun. I want to float on rivers, boat on lakes, end up in oceans, go hiking, shoot guns, get high on mushrooms and do whatever we can to have a blast.”

Kreischer’s dream is now a reality, wrapping up last month after a 17-date tour across North America — including the Orion Amphitheater in Huntsville, Alabama, and ending at the Gorge Amphitheater in Washington. When the numbers are all reported to Billboard Boxscore, the tour is likely to come in at a more than $10 million gross, making it one of the top earning comedy tours of the year.

Headlined by Kreischer, who has seen his profile skyrocket in the last two years thanks to his films like 2023’s The Machine, comedy specials like Hey Big Boy and Razzle Dazzle and popular comedy podcasts including “2 Bears, 1 Cave” with fellow comedian Tom Segura, this year’s stacked lineup for Fully Loaded included Mark Normand, Shane Gillis, Tiffany Haddish, Stavros Halkias, Fortune Feimster, Dave Attell, Lewis Black, Jim Norton, Andrew Santino, Big Jay Oakerson, Jay Pharoah, Dan Soder, Chad Daniels, Ralph Barbosa, Rosebud Baker and Tammy Pescatelli.

“Bert selects all of the talent for the show — its not being picked by a promoter or a talent buyer,” says manager manager Judi Marmel, a partner at Levity Talent. “In a world where nothing is agnostic, the festival is the purest form of an artist executing their vision.”

Fully Loaded was born out of the Hot Summer Nights Tour sold-out drive-in series Kreischer launched during the pandemic in 2020. Wanting to recreate his success for 2022, Kreischer — along with Marmel, UTA agent Heidi Feigin and UTA partner and Head of Comedy Touring Nick Nuciforo — came up with the idea to create a traveling comedy festival inspired by the original Lollapalooza touring festival. The festival also partnered with the charity Comedy Gives Back, an organization founded as a safety net for comics by providing them with financial crisis relief, mental health support and more.

“Our intention for creating Fully Loaded was to build a lifestyle brand that represents all of the aspects of life that Bert enjoys the most, that could then support multiple ventures and revenue streams for years to come,” says Marmel.

Kreischer says his wife LeeAnn convinced him to invest the first years earnings from the 2022 run back into the festival and worked with a team of friends to book excursions and activities for participating comedians.

“We wanted to make it the best experience a comic could ever have with extra tour buses and plenty of amenities to make it feel like a great gig,” Kreischer says — like a visit to Churchhill Downs or batting practice with the home team at the stadium they were playing.

For this year’s tour, Kreischer says his team booked activities for every day of the tour, which was split into four separate four-day runs — June 14-17 playing Forest Hills Stadium in New York, followed by CFG Bank Arena in Baltimore, PNC Field in Moosic, Penn. and Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion in Gilford; June 22-25 at Turtle Creek Stadium in Traverse City, Michigan, Parkview Field in Fort Wayne, Indiana Enterprise Center in St Louis, Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln. The tour then took a two week break before returning for eight more July dates, including a July 6 show at Huntsville, Alabama’s new Orion Amphitheater, a July 8 show at AutoZone Park in Memphis, a July 12 show at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and the show closer July 15 at the Gorge.

Throughout the tour, a content team of producers, editors, and marketing executives put together video clips and social media content from the tour, leading to a spike in interest and ticket sales as the tour chugged along. By the time the tour landed in Las Vegas, most comedians saw big spikes in their social numbers, and fans were booking tickets and flying in from out of town to see the show.

Kreischer says organizing the festival wasn’t always easy, having to sometimes make tough decisions like like deciding each night’s lineup, curated to fit the venue and market and momentum of the overall tour.

“There are certain acts that other comedians have a hard time following,” Kreisher says. “Acts like Chad Daniels, who was simply amazing. And I also had Tiffany Haddish on the lineup, who no one could f–king follow either. Most promoters wouldn’t give a s–t and say ‘just find someone to follow them,’ but as a comic, I had to say, “No that’s not how it works,” and I’m able to talk to a comedian like Dan Soder and ask him to open — and he’ll do it because he understands, and the request is coming from a comedian.”

Kreischer adds, “And then I will take the bullet and close the show behind someone like Chad or Tiffany. Everyone there knows me — I just take my shirt off and people go crazy.”

“At the heart of [things],” Kreischer says, “I love comics, and I love being on the road with comics. And my daughters who I bring on tour with me love it too. During the tour, one of them told me, ‘I love this — you wake up in a different city every morning, you have breakfast ready and everyone you eat with is hilarious. This is amazing.’”

Blueface Reportedly Stabbed in LA, Cardi B Threatens to Sue X User, Selena Reacts to AI & More | Billboard News

Cardi B threatens to sue an X user over Offset AI video and Selena Gomez reacts to an AI version of herself singing The Weeknd’s “Starboy.” Tim McGraw stopped by Billboard News to talk about his new album ‘Standing Room Only,’ country music dominating the charts and more. Blueface was reportedly stabbed during a boxing gym altercation in LA. Dua Lipa is on the cover of ‘Vogue France’ and opens up about her thoughts on motherhood and how she feels about listening to her own music. And more!

Tetris Kelly:
Cardi B and Selena Gomez are cracking down on AI. Did Blueface get stabbed? Dua Lipa is getting candid with ‘Vogue.’ We have country music legend Tim McGraw in studio and the songs of the summer for 2021.

The amount of news we have today is stressing me out! Plus, I’m so excited about Tim McGraw. So let’s just get right into this AI mess. Cardi B and Selena Gomez speak out on AI, and it may end up in court.

Cardi B:
You’re gonna be getting sued and we’re gonna make an example out of you.

Tetris Kelly:
Cardi B is threatening to sue one X user after they allegedly posted fake photos and AI-generated voice messages showing evidence Offset cheated on Cardi.

Cardi B:
That was a terrible AI voice by the way so yeah.

Tetris Kelly:
Cardi went on to dox the X user and their father, so it’s turning into a whole mess. Selena Gomez is also putting her two cents in on AI. After someone posted an AI-generated Selena cover of The Weeknd’s ‘Starboy,’ she hopped in the comments section to post “Scary.” They joined the long list of musicians against AI, like Ed Sheeran, Drake and Billboard cover star Lil Wayne.

Trump Hires Gunna, T.I. & Rick Ross Lawyer Before Surrendering In Fulton County

Donald Trump goes through lawyers at about the same rate civilians go through shoes and sneakers. The ex-President just hired a new lawyer, who in the recent past represented rappers Rick Ross. T.I. and Gunna, and singer Usher, among others, on the same day he is to surrender to the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office for his RICO case.

Yeah, Cheeto caught a RICO charge (which has created some now well-traveled mug shots of his famed co-defendants like Rudy Giuliani and Mark Meadows) and now he’s hiring an accomplished lawyer from the “urban music” world, again. You can’t make this stuff up. Trump’s new lawyer is Steven Sadow, who is a well-regarded criminal defense lawyer. We trust that he demanded an insane upfront payment considering Trump’s well-documented penchant for not paying his attorneys in full.

The New York Times reports that Sadow filed documents with the court on Thursday (August 24) saying he was now “lead counsel of record for Donald John Trump” while Drew Findling will be stepping down as Trump’s representation in his RICO case. It was Findling and his team who negotiated Trump’s $200,000 bond in the case.

The Atlanta-based Sadow has handled some high-profile cases in the Hip-Hop world as a defender. Some of his clients have included Usher, Rick Ross and T.I. He infamously represented Ray Lewis’ co-defendant Jeffrey Sweeting in the ex-NFL linebacker’s murder trial, for which he was acquitted. Most recently, he represented Gunna in the rapper’s own RICO case involving Young Thug and YSL. He managed to get Gunna, born Sergio Kitchens, “negotiated guilty plea” that saw him get time served in exchange for a guilty plea while maintaining his innocence. This hasn’t gone over well with some fans, and fellow rappers

Clearly, Atlanta rappers stay hiring pricey lawyers considering Findling, now Trump’s former lawyer, has represented Gucci Mane. Cardi B, Offset and BMF’s Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory, amongst others.

Polo G Arrested for Firearm Possession During Home Police Raid

Polo G was arrested in Los Angeles on Wednesday (Aug. 23) while police raided his home, Billboard can confirm.

It all started last week, on August 15, when Polo G’s brother Taurean Bartlett (a.k.a. Trench Baby) was identified as the suspect for a robbery in Granada Hills, Calif. According to LAPD reports, when the victim arrived at Taurean’s house to film a music video, the rapper pulled out a “handgun with an extended
magazine and demanded that the victim transfer money to an unknown account.”

Detectives then obtained an arrest warrant for Taurean, before discovering that he was living with Polo G. Upon serving the warrant on Wednesday (Aug. 23), police discovered “numerous firearms” at Polo G’s home and arrested both rapper brothers. Trench Baby was booked for robbery and Polo G was booked for possession of a short-barreled rifle at Van Nuys Jail.

Billboard has reached out to Polo G’s reps, but did not receive a response at press time.

Polo G’s lawyer, Bradford Cohen, told People of the arrest: “Polo is being held under the guise that the police department needs to double check that he is not a convicted felon as there was a purported firearm found in the home. He is not and never was a convicted felon. Any previous charges he had I got dismissed and it’s all public record.”

Breaking Up Is Hard to Do for Justin Bieber and Scooter Braun, With Four Years Left on Their Contract

Justin Bieber‘s and Scooter Braun’s success has been inextricably intertwined since 2008 when Braun discovered the then-13-year-old singer on YouTube, got him signed to Usher’s record label and became his manager. Braun made Bieber’s career, and vice versa, and their once-flourishing business relationship was arguably the catalyst for Braun adding Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato, J Balvin, Idina Menzel and many others to the management roster at his SB Projects, and the subsequent sale of its parent company Ithaca Holdings to Korean K-pop entertainment giant HYBE for $1.06 billion in April 2021 and his appointment as HYBE America’s CEO that followed.

But since then, Braun has moved his focus away from his management business and onto growing HYBE, shepherding massive deals like its $300 million purchase of hip-hop company Quality Control in February. That shift is one factor that’s had Bieber actively looking at how he might extract himself from that relationship with the help of his new music lawyer, David Lande, and prompting Braun’s other star clients to exit as well, sources tell Billboard. Grande is also planning to part with Braun on friendly terms, more because she’s “excited to go in a different direction” and because she’s “outgrown him” than because of his C-suite distractions, a source close to her says: “It’s time for something new.” Menzel, Balvin and Lovato departed earlier this year, on good terms as well, sources say.

But even for the world’s biggest superstars, leaving your manager is easier said than done — and Bieber and his lawyer are still exploring all their options, sources tell Billboard, with a full split not guaranteed. Bieber’s latest moves have included firing his agency, CAA, and hiring a new music lawyer — Lande at Ziffren Brittenham — to replace Aaron Rosenberg, whom Braun had helped hire. (Michael Rhodes, a partner at the Cooley law firm remains Bieber’s general counsel.)

Lande, these sources say, has been looking at how to extricate Bieber from the management agreement with Braun, but there’s a major complication: Bieber is still under contract for about four more years, following a series of amendments to their deal made three years ago, sources say, and standard management contracts tend to favor the manager. To get out entirely free of obligations, an artist must often show that their manager breached the agreement — which generally includes acting outside of an artist’s best interests, such as financial impropriety like siphoning funds. And only in the most extreme examples does a manager being unavailable or unreachable count. (Were that the case, Braun’s team at SB projects would likely give him significant cover: Braun’s lieutenant, Allison Kaye, has been running management as president of SB Projects since 2016.) Sometimes there are performance metrics, but given Bieber and Braun’s stature in the industry, that’s unlikely, music lawyers say.

“If you’re talking about a case where the artist is just no longer content with their current manager and wants to get out of their management deal, they have a high bar to clear,” says entertainment attorney Larry Katz. “The only chance an artist would have is if they can demonstrate a well-documented pattern of failure by the manager.”

That said, many managers and lawyers agree that it is not in anyone’s best interest to hold an artist in a contract against their will. “Slavery is not a thing,” says one manager.

A scenario like this usually results in the artist and manager striking a new deal that involves a lump sum paid to the manager; a commission on future monies made from deals in which the manager was involved; a sunset clause that gives the manager a gradually decreasing percentage of earnings from such deals — or, likely, a combination of these.

Perhaps because of these complications, sources familiar with some of Bieber’s business dealings say he is focused on resolving his predicament with Braun and would not begin a serious search for new management until that objective is completed — or may not seek a new manager at all.

Otherwise, Bieber would need to shoulder the cost of paying two managers until his agreement with Braun either expired or was dissolved.

A new manager would also face limited options for finding new income opportunities. Bieber is still under a recording contract with Def Jam as he currently works on his seventh studio album, meaning there’s no new multi-million-dollar label deal on the immediate horizon. He also sold his publishing, artist royalties from his master recordings and neighboring rights to Hipgnosis for over $200 million earlier this year. And he remains under contract with AEG Presents, which has promoted his concerts since his inaugural My World Tour in 2010.

Under that AEG deal, Bieber likely owes the promoter any advances paid for his tours that haven’t been recouped. This would likely include an upfront signing fee paid to AEG to promote Bieber’s tours, as well as a per-show guarantee — some or all of which would be recoupable against the tour’s ticket sales. These financial obligations are usually settled somewhere between the early planning of the tour and while it’s in progress, but Bieber’s situation is more complicated. That’s because he has repeatedly rescheduled or canceled touring plans over the past three years due to the coronavirus pandemic and personal health issues, which could mean that his deal with AEG has yet to recoup its obligations.

Still, sources agree Bieber remains an appealing client, because of the kind of influence that comes with his superstar stature.

As for the status of Bieber and Grande’s relationship with SB Projects, sources close to Braun’s camp say both artists are under contract but are currently working out new deal structures to account for Braun stepping into his larger role as HYBE America CEO. Sources close to Bieber and Grande say they are also working out new deal structures for the many business ventures they undertook while at SB — in preparation for their potential departures.

“It might take several years for Bieber to wrap up whatever deals he has with Braun and SB Projects, but he’s still a very attractive client,” says a major talent agent executive unassociated with the artist. “He’s young, he’s a proven superstar and he’s motivated to work and make money.”

Watch Yahritza y Su Esencia Sing ‘Soy El Único,’ ‘Frágil’ & More in NPR Tiny Desk Concert

Sibling trio Yahritza Y Su Esencia are the latest to perform for NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert. Composed of Yahritza, Mando and Jairo, the band serenaded fans with their ultra-emotional songs on love and heartbreak. Singing with such pathos, as ever, 16-year-old Yahritza first belts out the melancholic “Soy El Único,” their debut single released last year.

“Thank you,” Yahritza says with a chuckle at the end of the song and quickly introduces the next one on the setlist. “This next song, ‘Déjalo Ir,’ I also wrote when I was 13 so let’s get it.” Backed by her older brothers, who show off their killer guitar skills, Yahritza also sang “Inseparables,” “No Se Puede Decir Adiós” and “Frágil.”

Hailing from the Yakima Valley in the state of Washington, Yahritza Y Su Esencia had a breakout year in 2022. The first song they ever released, “Soy El Único,” entered the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 20 and made Yahritza the youngest Latin performer to debut on the chart at just 15 years old. The act subsequently notched its first No. 1 on Regional Mexican Albums with its Obsessed EP, scored a Latin Grammy Award nod for best new artist and, by July, signed with Columbia Records in a partnership with Lumbre Music and Sony Music Latin.

The three siblings are currently on their first-ever U.S. tour visiting West Coast cities such as Seattle, Portland, San Diego and Phoenix, among others. More info on the tour here.

Other Latin stars that have recorded Tiny Desk Concerts include Kany García, Karol G, Carla Morrison, Carin Leon, Farruko and Tokischa, among others. Watch Yahritza Y Su Esencia’s above.

CTS Eventim Revenue Up 39% in First Half of 2023

German concert promoter CTS Eventim says successful tours by Herbert Grönemeyer, Hans Zimmer and P!nk led an “encouraging” first half of 2023 and provide “a cause for optimism” in the second half of the year. Six-month revenue increased 39% to 1.02 billion euros ($1.1 billion at the average exchange rate in the period), marking the first time CTS exceeded 1 billion euros for any six-month period, the company announced Thursday (Aug. 24). Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) also rose 39% to 170.8 million euros ($185 million).

Looking ahead, CTS Eventim’s leadership expects both full-year revenue and EBITDA to increase compared to 2022. Pre-sales for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour were the company’s “absolute top seller for the current year” and will hit the company’s third-quarter financial statements, according to the earnings press release. Additionally, CTS Eventim’s acquisition of a majority stake in French ticketing company France Billet will not be reflected in the financials until the acquisition is completed.

The company has fully recovered from “market distortions caused by pandemic-related catch-up effects” and is experiencing “healthy organic growth” augmented by developing and expanding business segments, CEO Klaus-Peter Schulenberg said in a statement. “The breadth and depth of our portfolio and the successful internationalization of our business are the key drivers of our strong and stable growth,” he added.

CTS Eventim’s live entertainment segment posted revenue of 751 million euros ($812 million), up 39% from the prior-year period, and EBITDA of 48.5 million euros ($52 million), a 21% increase. About 50 million euros ($54 million) of that revenue came from the United States, where CTS Eventim launched a partnership with promoter Michael Cohl in 2020.

Ticketing revenue increased 41% to 284.6 million euros ($308 million) and normalized EBITDA improved 48% to 122.3 million euros ($132 million) due to “a broad range and large number of successful events and tours,” primarily in Germany, Italy and Austria. The company sold 34.3 million web tickets in the first half of the year, 6.4 million more than the prior-year period.

Shares of CTS Eventim dropped 1.1% to 58.35 euros ($63.07) on Thursday. Year-to-date, the stock is down 2.1%, which the company attributes to “the change in risk perception among institutional investors” as “global equity markets trended sideways in the first half of 2023.” CTS Eventim’s shares have had their own trajectory in recent months, however, losing 18% of their value since the company’s allegedly anticompetitive behaviors attracted criticism from German television host Jan Böhmermann in June.

Republican Debate Forges Ahead Sans Trump #GOPDebate

HipHopWired Featured Video

CLOSE

MILWAUKEE, WI - AUGUST 23: Former vice president Mike Pence, F

The first Republican debate took place Wednesday night (August 23) in the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee. While party frontrunner Donald Trump elected to bypass the debate, his presence was undeniable all the same.

The Republican debate field was stacked with familiar faces from the GOP who have expressed aims of gaining the White House. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis had all eyes on him as he was once seen as the party’s next big star. Joining DeSantis was young political upstart Vivek Ramaswamy, who managed to be the most emotive speaker of the night. Former Vice President Mike Pence was also in the group, although some observers feel his chances were dimmed after his showing.

Former governors Chris Christie of New Jersey and Nikki Haley of South Carolina brought their usual star power and camera-ready answers for the debate. Sen. Tim Scott, Gov. Scott Burgum of North Dakota, and Asa Hutchinson, former governor of Arkansas.

In our observation of the debate, Haley seemed to be the most poised for the debate stage, deftly deflecting countering shots sent her way. Given the momentum in the polls, DeSantis was expected to distance himself from the pack as he trails Trump but his showing might have him at the bottom half of the pack.

Even Christie, usually sharp during debates, didn’t bring his usual tenacity and instead took a more measured tone. As the one candidate who clearly has been critical of Trump, there was a telling moment during the debate.

When asked by the moderators to show their support via a show of hands, Christie and Hutchinson kept their hands lowered. The action stands in contrast to a pledge Christie signed to support whoever the Republican nominee for president would be.

Despite Trump’s current legal woes, the party remains aligned with him despite the few outliers. As we previously reported, the business mogul turned himself in to Georgia authorities in connection a large RICO case.

Under the hashtag #GOPDebate, the discussion surrounding the first Republican debate has been robust on Thursday (August 24). We’ve got some of the discussion listed below.

Zabdiel de Jesus on Launching Solo Career After CNCO: ‘I’m Nervous But Excited’

Zabdiel de Jesús is a force to be reckoned with: He sings, he dances, he plays the guitar, he composes, and he produces. After forming part of Latin boy band CNCO for the past eight years, the Puerto Rican artist is officially launching his solo career.

“There are many mixed emotions because obviously I have spent many years in the comfort of being in a group,” he tells Billboard. “Now, it’s a totally different reality. On one hand I am nervous and anxious but on the other hand I am very happy and excited. It’s going to be something really cool and I’m ready to move on.”

De Jesús, whose artistic name will only be Zabdiel, is kicking off his new era with a debut single called “Aventura” via WK Records. On the track—a new sugary pop rendition of Toby Love’s 2006 bachata hit “Tengo un Amor—Zabdiel is joined by Spanish pop star Ana Mena.

“I have loved this song since I was a very young child. In Puerto Rico, they played it all the time,” he explains. “It was pretty random because I met one of the guys who worked on the original song and he encouraged me to do a new version. We also wanted to add a female voice to the track and we came up with Ana Mena, who I had already worked with when I was in CNCO. She loved it and she jumped on. The tone of her voice was the icing on the cake.”

As part of CNCO, Zabdiel has placed many titles in the Billboard charts, including No. 1’s in Top Latin Albums, Latin Airplay, Latin Pop Albums, and Latin Pop Airplay. Now, he’s starting with a clean slate.

His short-term goals include releasing more music, connecting with other artists, performing solo concerts, and networking with more producers to excel his craft behind the scenes. He’s pumped to kick off his solo career but with the support of a powerful work team.

“I learned a lot of things in CNCO. That was our school and how we discovered the music industry,” he shares. “Really, I could give you a long list [of life lessons] but one that comes to mind is that you can’t do everything by yourself. You have to know how to work as a team. Knowing how to listen to others, knowing how to negotiate, that’s all very important. I take that with me and it is something that I am grateful to have learned in the process.”
