Camila Cabello Recalls ‘Distancing’ Herself From Fifth Harmony Before Leaving the Group

As pointed out by Alex Cooper on the latest episode of Call Her Daddy Wednesday (March 6), a lot of drama ensued after her guest, Camila Cabello, left Fifth Harmony to pursue a solo career back in 2016.

Perhaps most notably, the X Factor-generated girl group made a clear dig at their ex-bandmate when Ally Brooke, Normani, Dinah Jane and Lauren Jauregui, freshly a band of four, depicted a faceless fifth member being yanked offstage just before their performance at the 2017 VMAs. Later on, Cabello would say that the move “definitely hurt [her] feelings.”

Flash forward to her interview on Cooper’s podcast, and the “Bam Bam” musician says she’s now able to look back fondly on her time with 5H. “I feel like I can really focus on and remember the really joyful times,” she said between sips of red wine. “I grew a lot in that group.”

Cabello also explained what led to her departure from the quintet, noting that she’d started privately writing songs on her own that she originally debated passing along to other artists. “It turned into, ‘No, actually, I want to sing these songs by myself,’” she recalled. “I started distancing myself from the group vision. They were still really passionate and into that.”

“I was just like, ‘I’m not happy here anymore. It doesn’t feel aligned,’” added The Voice alum. “It’s like any breakup, yeah. It sucks.”

The remaining four members of Fifth Harmony would eventually announce their hiatus in 2018. They’ve all nurtured solo careers in the years since, and Cabello joined her former bandmates in congratulating Normani on announcing her long-awaited debut album, Dopamine, last month.

One of Cabello’s first moves as a soon-to-be soloist back in 2015 was duetting with Shawn Mendes on “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” years after which she and the Canadian artist would date for about two years, ending November 2021. In 2023, they briefly got back together before splitting once again, another topic Cabello discussed with Cooper.

The “Havana” singer also gave details about her headline-making trip to Turks and Caicos with Drake in December, which at the time led many to suspect there was something romantic happening between the two stars. But according to Cabello, she was just there to show her upcoming album to the “God’s Plan” wrapper, who she says inspired a lot of her new music.

“It was vacation plus work,” she told Cooper. “But I will say, you know what? I love that man. I love him. We all love him. First of all, we did not go on vacation. This was like a homie, friends trip. I really felt like he would like my album, and so I DM’d him and I was like, ‘Hey, I’m just gonna put it out there.’ We hung out, I played him my album. He loved it.”

As for the record itself, which Cabello hasn’t yet announced — although she did recently share a teaser for a new track on social media — the musician says that making the project has been “such a journey.” “It started off with me really having that intention of going back to how it started with me,” she said. “Sitting with myself, and really getting back to that first passion of songwriting.”

Nobody asked for it, but Megan Thee Stallion’s former bestie, Kelsey Nicole Harris, is breaking her silence about the Tory Lanez shooting incident. Unsurprisingly, she isn’t dropping any revelations.

Kelsey Nicole found a microphone to get in front of to talk about the fateful night that her former best friend, Megan Thee Stallion, was shot by Tory Lanez.

In the episode of The Danza Project, which aired on Sunday, March 3, Nicole shared her side of the story because she was present that night and even testifying in the high-profile trial.

Harris told the podcast hosts the night where the “Hiss” rapper was shot was the same time she learned of the “betrayal,” alluding to Thee Stallion sleeping with the now incarcerated Tory Lanez.

“[I]t did end up coming out that night that she had been betraying me,” she said. “Of course it’s like, damn, why it have to come out like this? You should be able to come to me and say this. That way we can laugh in n-ggas’ faces, not n-ggas laughing at us.”

Nicole and The Stallion allegedly being intimate with Lanez is no revelation; she said as much during the trial, but during the interview notes, that was not the cause of their friendship’s end.

“The whole situation of her doing whatever behind my back, that is not why we fell out,” she said.

In fact, she has no idea why she and the Houston rapper are no longer friends.

“It’s so unclear to me why we fell out,” Harris began. “I’m the type of person that likes to communicate things. Some people don’t like to communicate.”

“But you would think when you’re close with this person, and this person is supposed to be your best friend, your family, your sister, that you would be able to talk about these things and agree to disagree.”

Nicole also claims she has PTSD as a result of the shooting.

“I was really going through s**t,” she said. “I really have PTSD from that. Really was depressed. All of that s**t is very real. And, no, I’m human. My pain does matter.”

Justin Timberlake Announces ‘One Night Only’ L.A. Show With ‘No Angels’ Snippet: Listen

As the release of Everything I Thought It Was draws nearer, Justin Timberlake is treating fans to yet another “One Night Only” experience. On Wednesday (March 6), the “Selfish” singer announced an exclusive show at The Wiltern in Los Angeles.

“LA ➡️ THE WILTERN 3/13,” Timberlake simply captioned a carousel that include a picture of a poster that reads: “Justin Timberlake is performing for one night only in Los Angeles.” The rest of the carousel includes a screenshot of an email announcing his latest show, a clip of a tumbleweed rolling around Los Angeles as an excerpt of a Big Lebowski monologue blares in the background, and a snippet of both a new track titled “No Angels” and what appears to be behind-the-scenes footage of its accompanying music video.

The newly announced concert marks the third show in the “one night only” series JT launched in conjunction with the beginning of the promotional campaign for his upcoming album. On Jan. 12 — just 13 days before the release of “Selfish,” the album’s lead single — Timberlake announced a Jan. 19 show at the Orpheum Theater in his hometown of Memphis, Tenn. Then on Jan. 24, the “Mirrors” singer once again took to Instagram to announce a second “one night only” show at New York City’s Irving Plaza. Should the Los Angeles show follow the precedent of the Memphis and New York performances, tickets for the event will be free.

At the New York show, Timberlake courted some controversy when he said, “I’d like to take this opportunity to apologize to absolutely f—king nobody” — a comment that many took as a response to Britney Spears‘ Instagram apology for some of the details she revealed in her bestselling The Woman In Me memoir.

Everything I Thought It Was marks JT’s first LP since 2018’s Man of the Woods, which spawned a pair of Billboard Hot 100 top 10 hits in “Filthy” (No. 9) and “Say Something” (No. 9, with Chris Stapleton). The “Like I Love You” singer is set to mount a sprawling arena tour in support of the new album, with 77 shows across North America and Europe.

Meek Mill is taking it upon himself to look into what he’s framing as cyberattacks on Black leaders and role models. Taking to X, the Philadelphia artist believes that a conspiracy to tear down the community is afoot and wants to get to the bottom of it.

Meek Mill, 36, took to his usual platform of X, formerly Twitter, to deliver his missive to help curtail this recent scourge of attacks on Black celebrities.

“I just hired investigators to see to been starting these cyber attacks against black artist and leaders … they making blogs post anything that destroys the black house hold and powering everything that level is down,” Meek shared on Monday (March 4).

He added, “A big company powered “ I know the perc was fake but I still ate” now we praying for yak mental … lil bru need his people … yall think this sh*t a game they have our people totally distracted! I will never be gay or a rat …. Ima die like that and ima forever step!”

Meek has put out a near-relentless barrage of tweets since along the same lines, which some online believe is a distraction to the rumors that were released involving Sean “Diddy Combs” hence why he tweeted that he “will never be gay” presumably.

Along with the above, Meek also got a little political with his tweets.

“Make sure you strap up in America it’s extremely dangerous on the streets! They have no control illegal immigrants everywhere… automatic guns flooded the inner city’s … fettynal poison in most drugs … opioids melting the brains of humans .. and algorithms mind control,” Meek shared.

In other news, Meek Mill has a new EP HEATHENISM, which he’s currently promoting heavily on his social media channels.

Holohoney is a new musical collaboration between hololive production, a VTuber groupwith over 50 streamers, and HoneyWorks, a group of creators. The album is a double album consisting of Holohoneygaoka High School -Originals-, new songs written for the album, and Holohoneygaoka High School -Covers-, covers of HoneyWorks songs by hololive members. Altogether there are a total of 20 songs (not counting the CD bonus tracks), which are presented in detail below.

“Kawaiko Check!” is Holohoney’s first original song, released in September 2023. The song is about Inugami Korone, disguised as a school teacher, scouting cute girls to liven up the school’s culture festival. The speedy tune, livened up with accents like a brass section, emphasizes the cuteness of Korone, a character with a dog motif, as she races around, tail wagging.

2. Idol 10 rules by Nekomata Okayu, Himemori Luna

This punk tune, almost ska-core, depicts the hard work the two singers do to become top idols while always obeying the 10 rules of idols.

3. Tokyo Wabi-Sabi Lullaby by Gawr Gura

This mellow, mid-tempo number is sung by a member from hololive English. The lyrics are evocative of an exchange student thinking of home, and the modern R&B sound of the song is blended with Japanese instruments such as bamboo flutes and sound effects like railroad crossings and fireworks, painting a picture of summer in Tokyo and a feeling of wabi-sabi. You can feel the Japanese city pop flavor that Gura is so fond of.

4. Bridal Dream by Usada Pekora, Houshou Marine

“Pekomari,” the duo of Usada Pekora and Houshou Marine, is the most popular and well-known hololive duo, made up of two members of the third generation of hololive. “Bridal Dream” is an official B-side for the duo’s wedding…or, at least, that’s what it appears like, until you discover that it was all just Marine’s dream. There are wedding-like melodies sprinkled throughout and a frantic feel that’s a perfect fit for the duo, which always whips up a storm when they’re together.

5. Utage☆Dokudanzyou! by Nakiri Ayame

Sharp, strummed guitar lines drive this fast-paced song, an up-tempo tune with a post-Vocaloid rock pop feel and an exhilarating, breakneck pace.

6. Outsider plan by La+ Darknesss, Takane Lui, Hakui Koyori, Sakamata Chloe, Kazama Iroha

The five members of Secret Society holoX shares the pride of outsiders who can’t, or don’t want to, fit in with their classmates, carried by a powerful rock tune. What they’re actually doing — eating lunch before lunchtime, reading comics in class — is cute, and the heart of this song lies in how it uses pop to express the feelings of these outcasts.

7. PAKU-PAKU-SEIBAI by Hakos Baelz

“PAKU-PAKU-SEIBAI” is a dance-pop song with a “girl crush”-like sound rooted in EDM and trap music that highlights the cool vocals of Hakos Baelz, who plays a student with a powerful sense of justice.

8. Hero for a day by Kobo Kanaeru, Takanashi Kiara

hololive Indonesia’s Kobo Kanaeru and hololive English’s Takanashi Kiara sing about the joy of being a “hero for a day” up on the culture festival stage, backed by a sunny pop-rock melody. They also provide a glimpse of the wistful side of the event, singing that “the magic will vanish soon,” but in the end they look back on their experience fondly as another chapter of their youth.

9. Riazyuu★Bokumetu movement by Murasaki Shion

“Love and that tingling feeling you get inside, they’re just illusions.” That’s the message behind this ska-punk song by the angsty Murasaki Shion, who is doing all she can to block those around her from having rich, fulfilling lives.

10. Kyoushitsu ni Ao / Hoshimachi Suisei

This song is like the campfire at the end of the culture festival. It reminds the listeners that the time young people have to make memories and develop strong bonds with their friends will come to an end on the day of their graduation. It’s an emotional rock song that conjures up images of the starry night sky. Hoshimachi Suisei’s emotional, bright singing voice unlocks a flood of emotions.

1. Fansa by Yozora Mel, Shirakami Fubuki, Natsuiro Matsuri, Shiranui Flare, Shirogane Noel

Five artists cover this passionate idol song from the solo artist mona, which was released as part of the HoneyWorks project Kokuhaku Jikko Iinkai: Ren’ai Series (Confession Executive Committee: Love Series). The original song was already an emotional one, but when the voices of the five singers come together in the chorus, the feelings run even deeper as you viscerally feel the strength of the bonds between them.

2. Inokori sensei by Tsunomaki Watame, Tokoyami Towa

These two artists from the fourth generation of hololive have burgeoning solo music careers and exceptional voices. In this song, they’ve come together to perform a popular, wild rock tune that tells the dark story of a teacher (Saku Akechi) and his student (Haruki Serizawa).

3. motto ichigo ore by Sakura Miko

Sakura Miko is one of hololive’s generation zero members, with a sweet, slightly lispy singing voice. In this rock number, she covers a song with a distinctly mona-like feel that depicts the heroic ideals of an idol. Miko’s sweet vocal qualities and the powerful song combine in a wonderful blend of sweet and spicy. The lyrics were also tweaked for Sakura Miko, such as by changing “mona wink” to “miko wink.”

4. Hokori Takaki Idol by Tokino Sora

This song by mona is one of pride in the face of the people who look down on idols. Here, it has been covered by Tokino Sora, a pillar of hololive since debuting as its first virtual idol.

5. Sis x Love by Kureiji Ollie, Anya Melfissa

This song by the sisters Sena Narumi and Mona Narumi has been covered here by a close-knit duo of second generation members from hololive Indonesia. The lyrics, about the powerful bonds between sisters that grew up together, convey a different sense of bonding when sung by Ollie and Anya. The scintillating string parts and uplifting sound bring tears to your eyes.

6. Daikiraina Hazu datta by Shishiro Botan, Omaru Polka

This bittersweet love song, originally sung by Kotaro Enomoto and Hina Setoguchi, is famous for a version sung by members of Nogizaka 46. In this cover by a duo of fifth generation hololive streamers, Botan plays Hina’s part and Polkaa plays Kotaro’s part, backed by a piano rock tune that is the embodiment of glittering youth — a duet that paints a picture of pure, bashful love.

7. Tokyo-Summer-Session by Oozora Subaru, Amane Kanata

This cover of a popular song depicts a scene of youth in full bloom — a couple, more than friends but less than lovers, realize their mutual attraction at a fireworks festival one summer night. Subaru plays the boy’s part and Kanata plays the girl’s part in a song that sets the listener’s heart fluttering with lyrics like lines from a drama and nuances that evoke the innocence of a young couple.

8. Kessen Supiritto by Moona Hoshinova

This beloved song by CHiCO with HoneyWorks was the ending theme to the TV anime Haikyuu!! To the Top. Here, it is covered by Moona Hoshinova, one of hololive Indonesia’s finest vocalists. The energetic performance is a perfect encapsulation of the drive to always keep pushing forward, using failure as a springboard for future success.

9. Doutan Kyohi by Momosuzu Nene

Momosuzu Nene, a fifth generation hololive member who is always bubbly and full of energy, sings this pop number, a straightforward declaration of devotion by Chu-tan, from the Heroines Run the Show series, to her favorite idol.

10. Senpai by AZKi, Ookami Mio, Yukihana Lamy

Halle Bailey Announces Second Solo Single ‘In Your Hands’ & Offers a Snippet: Here’s When It Arrives

Halle Bailey fans will soon have her second solo single, “In Your Hands,” in their hands.

The singer announced the new track on Wednesday (March 6) by previewing almost 40 seconds of the sweeping ballad in a behind-the-scenes video of her Essence cover shoot. “You guys have asked for it, so i’ll gladly give it to you,” she wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter. The song will arrive next Friday, March 15.

“Whenever you’re down and sufferin’, I promise that I’ll be your only friend/ ‘Cause I know that the demons comin’ again, and we will never, ever let ’em in,” Bailey croons before bellowing the hook. “In your hands, in your hands, the world is yours!”

Outside of her contributions to movie soundtracks of films she’s starred in — “Part of Your World” from Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid and “Keep Pushin’” with Missy Elliott, Rico Santana and Corte Ellis from the 2023 adaptation of The Color Purple — Bailey has released only one solo single. “Angel” arrived on Aug. 4, 2023, via Parkwood Entertainment and Columbia Records, and the R&B/gospel track was nominated for best R&B song at the 2024 Grammy Awards.

And another angel arrived last year: She and boyfriend DDG welcomed their first son, Halo. “Even though we’re a few days into the new year, the greatest thing that 2023 could have done for me, was bring me my son.. welcome to the world my halo,” Bailey captioned an Instagram photo of the newborn’s tiny hand wearing a gold bracelet inscribed with the name Halo. “The world is desperate to know you.”

Last year, “I Remember Everything” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 dated Sept. 9, 2023, earning both Musgraves and Bryan their first Hot 100 chart-topper. The song also debuted atop the Hot Country Songs chart, where it ruled for 20 weeks (through February 2024).

“I Remember Everything” was nominated for two Grammy Awards, and picked up a win for best country duo/group performance. Meanwhile, Bryan closed out 2023 by being named top new artist at the Billboard Music Awards.

Bryan’s The Quittin’ Time Tour launches with three shows at United Center (March 5-7), before trekking across the country with stops in New York, Pennsylvania, Alabama, Missouri, Tennessee and more. Among the openers on the tour are Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, The War and Treaty, Sierra Ferrell and Sheryl Crow.

BMAC’s Willie ‘Prophet’ Stiggers Joins Board of Neil Lasher Music Fund for Addiction Treatment

Black Music Action Coalition (BMAC) founder Willie “Prophet” Stiggers has joined the founders board of the Neil Lasher Music Fund at Caron Treatment Centers, which provides financial assistance to music workers for drug and alcohol addiction treatment.

With Stiggers in the fold, BMAC and the fund will work together to help address the stigma of addiction in the Black music world and offer support for members of that community who are seeking out treatment.

On Feb. 2, Stiggers spoke at the fund’s annual “Breakfast With the Founders Board,” during which he addressed the stigma surrounding “treatment, mental health and wellness” in the Black community. “Our goal is to try and break that down,” he said. “Economics should never be a barrier to whether or not someone can survive, be alive, [and] have the treatment that they need.”

Stiggers said he became aware of the Neil Lasher Music Fund after veteran music attorney and BMAC executive leadership council member Dina LaPolt invited him to join her at a 2023 dinner where she was being honored by Caron Treatment Centers, which provides the addiction treatment for individuals who receive grants from the fund. “As I began to do some research and found out that you all provide funding for people in the industry and their family members to get treatment, I said, ‘This is incredible. How can we get involved? How can we help spread this message?’” Stiggers recounted.

In partnership with BMAC, the fund currently has plans to provide artist “recovery” support spaces at music festivals and venues, as well as to create an awareness-building event in Atlanta this year.

“Seeking help for addiction and mental health issues is unfortunately still highly stigmatized within the Black community, and BMAC wants to align with the Neil Lasher Music Fund to help the community with awareness, education, and resources,” said LaPolt of Stiggers and BMAC’s involvement in the fund. “In my role as a member of the executive leadership council of BMAC, Prophet and I have worked together for years on our music creator and social justice advocacy efforts. I was glad to help connect Prophet to our Founders Board, and I know that together we will facilitate important change.”

Camila Cabello sipped wine and spilled tea during her Wednesday (March 6) interview on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast — especially where Shawn Mendes was concerned.

Sitting down with a glass of red in hand, the 27-year-old singer was asked point-blank about her relationship with her “Señorita” duet partner, whom she dated for about two years before breaking up for the first time in November 2021. Flash forward to spring of 2023, when the couple seemingly rekindled their romance. But after packing on the PDA at Coachella and attending one of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour shows together, the pair called it quits once again.

“It’s crazy because I’m kind of impulsive in that way,” Cabello told Cooper, reflecting on why she got back together with Mendes in the first place. “If I feel it, I say it. I would rather say it and see what happens and then wake up the next day and find out that it’s been heavily documented. I opted for that route. It is what it is. It was a fun time; it was a fun moment.”

“I will always care about him and love him. He’s such a good person,” she continued. “I’m lucky ’cause some people have exes who are awful, and he is not. He’s a really kind, good person.”

The “Havana” singer went on to share why she and Mendes broke up a second time. “It wasn’t even like a decision. I think you’re just kind of like, ‘Yeah this doesn’t really … it’s not a fit — it doesn’t feel right,’” she said. “Luckily, I was in a place in my life where … it took us both less time to be like, ‘This doesn’t feel right and we don’t really need to try so hard to make it work. It’s all good, let’s move on.’”

“The worst thing you can life with is a ‘What if?’” Cabello added.

The X-Factor alum, who recently teased her upcoming single on social media, also confirmed that she’s currently single. “I love it,” she told Cooper. “But also, I’ve been in relationships a lot since I started dating. It feels fun to just get to know people and talk and see what happens.”

But that doesn’t mean the heartbreaks she’s experienced in the past don’t still sting. “It feels very out of your control,” Cabello said, speaking generally about her past breakups. “Sometimes it’s like, ‘I wanted it to be this person so bad.’ But it’s not, and that feels really hard to let go. To be like, I really wanted this, but the fact that I can’t make this person who I wanted them to be … it’s really tough.”
