Detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett’s next hilarious, action-packed adventure has a release date.

Will Smith has graciously recovered following the infamous Oscars slap incident and has been furiously working on films. One of his most anticipated projects, Bad Boys 4, the following up to the highly successful film Bad Boys 4 Life, also starring Martin Lawrence, has officially wrapped and is coming sooner than many thought.

Taking to Instagram, Smith wrote, “WRAPPED! Nothin’ but Magic every time I’m with my guy. See y’all June 7 for @BADBOYS 4!!”

In follow-up posts, the rapper/actor shared more behind-the-scenes photos from the fourth film in the famed Bad Boys film franchise, showing Grammy-award-winning artist John Batiste visiting the set while they were filming.

In the caption for the post, using his comedic charm he wrote, “@jonbatiste came to see Me & @martinlawrence on our last day of shooting @badboys. I don’t remember what I was talkin’ about but there was a whole lotta Hand-Talkin’ goin’ on!”

In another post, Smith paid tribute to the city of Miami, which has been the locale for each of the three films and will continue to be in Bad Boys 4.

“It was only right we shoot @BadBoys 4 on the streets where it all began. Mil gracias, Miami!! Te amo ❤️ Happy 305 day,” Smith wrote.

What Will Bad Boys 4 Plot Be?

Hoping to recapture the box office magic of the last film, Adil El Arbi, and Bilall Fallah returned to sit in the director’s chair. We’re not sure about the next film’s plot, but we most certainly know that Mike Lowery’s love child will somehow be involved, and Marcus will be once again contemplating a well-deserved retirement.

We can’t wait to see the first trailer.

Linkin Park Wants Ex-Bassist’s Lawsuit Tossed Out, Arguing He Can’t Sue Them ‘Decades’ Later

Attorneys for Linkin Park are pushing to end a lawsuit that accuses the band of refusing to pay royalties to an ex-bassist who briefly played with the band in the late 1990s, saying such claims have been repudiated for “over two decades.”

In a motion to dismiss the case filed Tuesday (Mar. 5), lawyers for Mike Shinoda and other Linkin Park members say Kyle Christner’s lawsuit is “rife with defects.” Among them, they say, is that the statute of limitations on such claims has “long since passed.”

“Plaintiff claims that defendants … owe him money because he was a member of the band for, at most, eight months, 25 years ago, and was not paid for his ‘contributions’,” writes the band’s lead counsel, prominent music litigator Edwin F. McPherson. “He asserts three claims, each of which fails.”

Trending on Billboard

Christner sued Linkin Park in November, claiming he had been a member of the band for several months in 1999 until he was “abruptly informed” that he had been fired shortly before the band signed a record deal with Warner Records. He accused the band of continuing to profit from songs he helped create, while effectively erasing his involvement.

“Christner has never been paid a penny for his work with Linkin Park, nor has he been properly credited, even as defendants have benefitted from his creative efforts,” his lawyers wrote in the lawsuit.

In addition to Shinoda, the lawsuit also named Linkin Park’s other living members (Rob Bourdon, Brad Delson and Joseph Hahn), as well as its business entity, Machine Shop Entertainment, and the band’s label, Warner Records.

The dispute was seemingly triggered by an anniversary re-release of the band’s smash hit 2000 debut album Hybrid Theory, which holds the lofty distinction of being the best-selling rock album of the 21st century. Christener claims the special 2020 box set included several songs to which he had contributed, including a never-before-released demo track that has amassed 949,000 views on YouTube.

But in Tuesday’s response, the band’s lawyers say those allegations are deeply flawed. Among other issues, they say the lawsuit failed to clearly identify what songs Christener was involved with and instead relies on “open-ended” statements like that he’d “likely” been involved in “numerous” songs. “Defendants cannot reasonably be expected to know how to respond to the [lawsuit] without knowing which copyrights are being addressed,” the complaint reads.

For the songs that were properly identified, the band’s attorneys say the lawsuit is clearly barred by the statute of limitations. Copyright ownership disputes must be filed within three years, they say, adding that the band has obviously refused to acknowledge his claims for far longer than that.

“Defendants repudiated Plaintiff’s purported ownership in any and all of the works mentioned in the [lawsuit] more than three years before Plaintiff filed this lawsuit — and indeed for over two decades,” the band’s lawyers wrote.

Even for the never-before-released songs, Linkin Park says Christener missed his window: “The Box Set was released in October, 2020; this action was filed on November 8, 2023 — over three years later.”

Christener’s attorneys did not immediately return a request for comment.

Every Ariana Grande Album, Ranked: Critic’s Picks

Since her Billboard Hot 100 debut with the Mac Miller-assisted “The Way” back in 2013, Ariana Grande has evolved into a generational pop titan. Her awe-inspiring vocal prowess and fearlessness to move through the myriad subsects of pop, R&B, dance, hip-hop and musical theatre have resulted in a discography that is as creatively fulfilling as it is culturally and commercially impactful.

From her Victorious and Sam & Cat days — she didn’t say she couldn’t sing, after all! — it was glaringly obvious that Grande’s voice would carry her to unimaginable career heights. After a few false starts (“Put Your Hearts Up,” anyone?) she eventually found her footing with Yours Truly, the R&B-laced debut LP that announced her as pop’s next superstar. From the jaunty “Popular Song” to her work with key producers and songwriters such as Victoria Monét, Tommy Brown, Leon Thomas III and Babyface, Yours Truly laid the groundwork that Grande’s entire catalog stands upon.

From there, she embarked on five consecutive albums of Top 40 domination. 2014‘s My Everything boasted four Hot 100 top 10 hits, 2016’s Dangerous Woman housed genre-bending collaborations with everyone from Macy Gray to Future, 2018’s Sweetener found Grande expanding her horizons by tapping Pharrell Williams, 2019’s Thank U, Next spawned a pair of career-defining No. 1 hits in its title track and “7 Rings,” and 2020’s Positions reignited her R&B influences and launched two monster hits in its chart-topping title track and “34+35” (No. 2). According to Luminate, Grande has shifted 19.4 million album units in the U.S. and earned over 23.6 billion streams across lead artist credits, as of Aug. 25, 2023, the ten-year anniversary of Yours Truly.

At the top of 2024, Grande made her grand return to the pop music scene with “yes, and?” A house-tastic kiss-off to her detractors, the Max Martin-helmed track serves as the lead single from Eternal Sunshine — Grande’s seventh studio album and first in three years. By the tail end of January (chart dated Jan. 27), “Yes, And?” launched atop the Hot 100 — her eighth chart-topper and sixth to debut at the pole position — and received a Mariah Carey-featuring remix five week slater.

As the two-time Grammy winner prepares to unleash Eternal Sunshine and enter her Wicked era, now is the time to take a trip down memory lane. From latex bunny ears to that low, blonde ponytail, here’s our ranking of every Ariana Grande studio album.

Liu Lian Talks Solo EP ‘Don’t Speak, Just Kiss’: ‘Love Is What Matters Most’

Liu Lian’s debut solo EP, Don’t Speak, Just Kiss, unveils her exploration of love through three self-penned and composed songs. Departing momentarily from the familiar jazz stylings of the band Mr. Miss, Liu Lian ventures into the realm of self-expression as a solo artist, unveiling a profound understanding of self-love through forays into new musical genres like dream pop.

As a maiden voyage into solo artistry, Don’t Speak, Just Kiss encapsulates Liu Lian’s current authentic essence. Having become accustomed to the vocal intricacies and creative trajectory as the frontwoman of Mr. Miss, Liu Lian’s transition from the security of the band into the uncharted waters of her solo career has been a transformative journey of self-discovery and self-acceptance.

Symbolized by the “Love Airline” motif in Don’t Speak, Just Kiss, she encourages listeners to embark on a proactive journey toward self-discovery and fulfillment. The EP cover’s re-creation of the iconic “victory kiss” scene within an airplane cabin symbolizes the transformative power of decisive action over passive waiting.

Trending on Billboard

In Liu Lian’s vision, each seat within the cabin represents a microcosm of life’s diverse experiences. From solitary travelers finding solace to lovers entwined in intimate whispers, each vignette reflects facets of human existence. Notably, the blurred figure embraced by Liu Lian on the EP cover hints at a symbolic embrace of her own multifaceted identity within this tableau.

Love Others, Speak Less, Kiss More

In the EP’s standout title track, Liu Lian beautifully captures the essence of love and longing: using our bodies to embrace, kiss and love passionately. Embracing the idea that love may not last forever, why not enjoy the present, live fully, speak less, and kiss deeply – this is what life is about. In Liu Lian’s touching lyrics: “The most profound expression of humanity is found in kissing.”

In China, talking about desires can be uncomfortable. Some fans hesitated to share a song titled “Don’t Speak, Just Kiss” on social media. The reactions not only surprised Liu Lian, but also highlighted the EP’s importance. It helps people overcome their inhibitions from a new perspective. Liu Lian said, “It’s a great achievement. There’s no shame in desires; love is what matters most.”

In Chinese, the word “we” sounds the best. Love is about moving from “I” to “we,” from being alone to being together. Liu Lian believes that to love others, you must first love yourself. Courage isn’t always needed to love. When you truly care for someone, courage comes naturally when showing that love. If you struggle with courage, it might be because you don’t love yourself enough or feel unworthy, which can make it hard to give or accept the love you deserve.

The upcoming romantic movie You Whom I Lost, set to premiere in March, will feature Liu Lian in her big-screen debut as the female lead’s best friend. Having released an EP centered around love and starring in a romantic film, Liu Lian, acclaimed as an intellectual in love relationships, reflects on the word “love” feeling somewhat distant from her: ” It feels like it’s been a while since I’ve thought about love. I admire people who do crazy things for love; they seem really happy. Love can make you feel obsessed and act impulsively, unlike how you normally would. But it seems like I can’t act like that anymore.”

Loving Music Takes Action

Since 2017, on each anniversary of her birth, Liu Lian has unveiled a solitary opus that leans more toward personal introspection. Don’t Speak, Just Kiss signifies Liu Lian’s inaugural venture into complete artistic autonomy as a soloist.

“When I start creating music on my own, some traces of the group’s style may still be present,” Liu Lian says of her time in Mr. Miss. “While working alone, I focus on crafting melodies with precision, similar to performing surgery. My creative process is not just about reflecting on myself; it also involves exploring imagination and fiction to express my thoughts and observations from that time.”

Transitioning from nostalgic ’90s vibes to contemporary atmospheres prevalent in today’s musical landscape, when discussing the trajectory of her forthcoming debut full-length album, Liu Lian candidly concedes that she is still in the process of exploration: “Truthfully, I am most intrigued to discern the musical path preferred by my audience after this EP. I aspire for the album’s thematic essence to be more defined than that of the EP. This year, my aim is to compose and release additional compositions to delineate a distinctive musical signature for ‘Liu Lian.’”

To promote this EP, Liu Lian orchestrated an online collaborative initiative titled ” Don’t Speak, Embrace Creation,” where enthusiasts collectively contributed to a single document that has garnered thousands of submissions thus far. “Numerous young individuals expound upon facets intimately entwined with their existence—be it parental wake-up calls at dawn or anecdotes pertaining to exam preparations—rendering their narratives relatable and vivacious in both prose style and lyrical cadence.”

Liu Lian had perennially navigated the musical landscape under the guise of an autonomous ensemble, seldom venturing into other facets of the recording industry. This occasion marked her deep-seated partnership with Tencent Music Entertainment Group, embracing a more industrialized production approach to unveil a personal EP, affording Liu Lian an immersive involvement in every facet of the album: from inception to production to dissemination… Truly an invigorating firsthand encounter for Liu Lian.

“I tried to handle everything on my own, from making music to working with producers. This helped me learn a lot about making albums, the Chinese music industry, and solve many mysteries. Working with TME has been great; they help me choose songs and remind me of what to do next in the production process. Brainstorming about music with someone who thinks like me is really valuable.”

No Beef: Cardi B Buys a Coach Bag After Controversy Over ‘Like What (Freestyle)’ Lyric

All products and services featured are independently chosen by editors. However, Billboard may receive a commission on orders placed through its retail links, and the retailer may receive certain auditable data for accounting purposes.

Cardi B is making it clear that she doesn’t have beef with Coach after seemingly dissing the brand in her “Like What (Freestyle).” To prove that there’s no bad blood, the Bronx rapper bought a new Coach bag on Tuesday (March 5).

“Come with me to buy a Coach bag,” Cardi captioned a TikTok video of her on the way to Coach while carrying a pink Burkin bag, which she gave a playful thumbs down before hopping in the car and heading to Coach.

After looking through a few options, Cardi settled on a yellow quilted Coach Tabby Shoulder Bag.

Coach Tabby Bag With Quilting

The Tabby Shoulder Bag is one of Coach’s best-rated bags, with 4.7 stars and hundreds of reviews on the brand’s website. From hardware to design, there’s something about the Tabby bag that keeps shoppers coming back.

Coach’s Tabby bag is a modernized version of a design from the 1970s. The bag is available in 20, 26 or 33 inches, and made from soft, napa leather with chain straps that you can adjust to wear it as a shoulder bag or handbag. The Tabby Shoulder Bag retails for $295 and up, and it’s available in several colors, including black, pink, brown and silver. The quilted Tabby comes in yellow, pink, black, white and lip print ($450).

Cardi had the internet in an uproar after taking a soft shot a Coach on “Like What.” (In the song’s chorus, she raps, “Like a Coach bag, baby, this ain’t what you want.”) She later explained that the lyric was inspired by a 2011 Cam’Ron track.

Coach came to Cardi’s defense amid the controversy. “We love Cardi,” the brand posted on X on March 2, to which Cardi replied “Love ya” with a heart emoji.

This week: A much-shared fan reaction to a Taylor Swift Eras performance results in big gains for the ballad in question, an unusual pop artist goes viral in an even more unusual way and we may have the first post-Beyoncé hoedown hit.

Taylor Swift’s ‘Exile’ Sees Uptick Following Swiftie’s Viral Reaction Video

For nearly a year, the surprise songs performed each night on Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour have provoked a wide spectrum of reactions — from elation from those in attendance who happened to hear their favorite song performed during their tour stop, to heartache from those who missed an unforgettable moment. Madison Blackband, a 20-year-old Australian Swiftie, ended up producing an unforgettable moment herself last week, when she took video of herself and two friends outside of Swift’s performance in Sydney on Feb. 25.

Trending on Billboard

The Brisbane native posted a TikTok of herself hearing the opening notes of the Folklore track “Exile,” which caused her to double over into her friend’s arms and collapse in sobs; the caption read, “My reaction to Taylor singing Exile (also known as the song that saved my life).” The overwhelming emotion in the clip went viral, with over 10 million TikTok views and countless memes re-creating the drama. And in the week that followed, “Exile” experienced an increase in streams, as fans just had to hear what exactly was in that Bon Iver duet that made that Swiftie crumple in tears.

In the three days before the video posted (Feb. 22-24), “Exile” earned 1.12 million official on-demand U.S. streams — but the following three days (Feb. 25-27), that number rose to 1.30 million streams, an increase of 16%, according to Luminate. As for Blackband, she’s taking the viral moment in stride: “There’s no point letting it upset me,” she told Rolling Stone last week. “I reacted the way I reacted.” – JASON LIPSHUTZ

Viral X Ad Transforms Julie Ragbeer from Unknown to Rising Streaming Phenom

Most people are aware of the power and reach of platforms like X (formerly Twitter) or Instagram. Most people are also aware of how influential advertising can be. Few can say they would have predicted that a paid ad on a sizable pop culture X account would transform a New Jersey college student from bedroom crooner to certified streaming star.

On Feb. 22, Pop Tingz – an X account focused on covering pop culture that boasts over 166,000 followers – shared a promotional post for Julie Ragbeer with the caption, “[Julie Ragbeer] reminisces with her 19-year-old experiences in her new debut album.” At press time, the tweet has garnered over 13,000 likes and 11.4 million views on the platform. While these kinds of X accounts have shared promotional posts for little-known independent artists in the past, the bizarreness of the Ragbeer ad (at the time her account was private and followed by just 100 people) coupled with the undeniable, tongue-in-cheek allure of songs like the funky “Older Guys” resulted in genuine streaming gains for the nascent social media star.

According to Luminate, Ragbeer’s independently released catalog – which consists of one LP, two EPs and two standalone singles – received a negligible number of official on-demand U.S. streams during the week of Feb. 16-22. In the week immediately following the X post (Feb. 23-29), streaming activity for Ragbeer’s catalog ballooned by a whopping 34,630% to over 80,000 streams. On Spotify, “Mary Whiton Calkins” — a tribute to the early 1900s American philosopher and psychologist whose worked focused on researching memories and dreams — ranks as Ragbeer’s most popular track, with over 50,000 streams on the platform.

While it remains to be seen whether she can bottle up her virality and create a lasting career, the Pop Tingz-spurred phenomenon of Julie Ragbeer is just the latest example of the power of the Internet. — KYLE DENIS

Dasha Scores the Year’s Second Boot-Stomping Texas-Themed Country-Pop Hit

The rising wave from Beyoncé’s country crossover smash “Texas Hold ‘Em” keeps lifting boats from all over — and the latest beneficiary might be San Luis Obispo, Calif.-born singer/songwriter Dasha. Now based out of Nashville, Dasha has been trying to make it in country music, and last year released the lovelorn single “Austin,” sounding a little like a more honky-tonk-ready spin on Halsey’s 2020 hit “You Should Be Sad.” But its stomp-clapping giddy-up groove also shares more than a little DNA with “Hold ‘Em” — and with that song becoming one of the early year’s defining hits, “Austin” has begun to take off as well.

The song of course has done exceptionally well on TikTok — where Dasha now has nearly 300,000 followers and calls herself country-without-the-“o” on her bio page — particularly as part of a line dance trend started by the singer-songwriter. For the tracking week ending Feb. 15, which Beyoncé released “Hold ‘Em” midway through, “Austin” had exploded from 82,000 official on-demand U.S. streams the week before to over 830,000, according to Luminate, a gain of 916%. The next week, which also included the Feb. 16 release of Dasha’s independently released full-length country debut album What Happens Now? the song kept rocketing upwards, growing another 182% to over 2.3 million streams. For the most recent week, ending Feb. 29, the song has slowed a little but is still climbing, now up another 32% to over 3.1 million streams.

Will “Austin” also become a Lone Star State-sized pop hit in the months to come? We’ll see, but it’s clear that even with Beyoncé’s sizeable presence understandably commanding the most attention, there’s still plenty of room for other artists on the honky-tonk dancefloor in 2024. — ANDREW UNTERBERGER

Qishan Huang Talks ‘Xiao Xia’ Album Trilogy & Why There Won’t Be a ‘4.0’

As twilight adorns the sky with its ethereal canvas, the horizon’s resplendent clouds mirror the trilogy of Xiao Xia albums reflecting upon Huang Qishan’s midlife journey. Literary aficionados have long employed the expression “the sunset’s lingering glow weaves a tapestry of magnificence” to metaphorically depict the enduring allure that graces the conclusion of a literary masterpiece. In the wake of experiencing Xiao Xia 3.0, listeners are left in awe, echoing a sentiment of profound appreciation akin to that sublime celestial phenomenon: The Sunset Radiance Transformed Into Exquisite Grandeur.

Spanning the better part of a decade, Qishan Huang, born as Huang Xiaoxia, has serenely completed her Xiao Xia musical saga. As if charting the cartography of her soul from her vivacious 20s through the profound 30s to the contemplative 40s, each iteration of Xiao Xia encapsulates the multifaceted essence of a woman’s pilgrimage through life.

Trending on Billboard

The limited-edition vinyl version of Xiao Xia 3.0 swiftly sold out after its online release. The vinyl format, with its rich warmth and pristine clarity, seems destined to align seamlessly with the very essence of Xiao Xia, fully embodying its serene beauty and introspective tranquility.

Unlike CDs, vinyl records were once a less popular medium for music consumption, much like the initially underestimated Xiao Xia album. With the resurgence of vinyl records in recent years, Xiao Xia, like vinyl, has once again emerged as a coveted trend, a development that seems utterly unexpected to Qishan a decade ago.

Upon closer examination of the album cover of Xiao Xia 3.0, one discerns a tearful Xiao Xia bidding farewell to her youth. Intriguingly, at the very moment when tears fall, Qishan also smiles and playfully sticks out her tongue, serendipitously catching the tear that glides down from her eye. This subtle yet powerful touch silently and eloquently conveys the album’s central theme.

Commencing with 1.0, each cover of Xiao Xia has consistently incorporated the image of a headscarf. “I have experienced marriage before, but I have never had a formal wedding ceremony. The headscarf worn by Xiao Xia means that even if women choose not to pursue marriage, it does not necessarily imply a disinterest in wedding dresses. Ultimately, women retain their belief in love, but is marriage an indispensable requirement? Not necessarily. This represents a form of acceptance; each individual possesses the autonomy to determine how they wish to navigate their life.”

In Time, We Laugh With Tears

From the Xiao Xia 3.0 album, the song that most profoundly moved listeners to tears is undoubtedly the title track “Xiao Xia.” Huang Qishan candidly admits that when it comes to shedding tears, she possesses no semblance of personal boundaries: “I am completely uninhibited when it comes to crying; I readily share my entire spectrum of emotions with others, whether they be joyous or sorrowful. This is because the song ‘Xiao Xia’ is profoundly worthy of our tears. It transcends the realm of a mere musical composition; it embodies something that appears simultaneously simple and insignificant, yet also grand and magnificent.”

Spanning the journey from the southbound train in the 1990s to the transoceanic taxi ride, the intricate interweaving of time and space in “Xiao Xia” possesses an enchanting quality. A substantial segment of a woman’s life is encapsulated within the song’s stream-of-consciousness lyrics. Life follows a predictable trajectory—beginning with unwavering certainty, it gradually transitions into uncertainty. Xiao Xia’s perception of herself and the world around her underwent profound and transformative changes. Having reached the age of self-awareness, Qishan can finally affirm with unwavering conviction: “This version of you is valiant.”

The lyrics of “Xiao Xia” include the line: “Swiping through social media, everyone is discussing my appearance.” From her vibrant pink hair and provocative miniskirts to her energetic dance moves, Qishan’s fearlessly transformative appearances in recent years have undoubtedly subverted everyone’s preconception of her “After joining the dance troupe at the age of fifteen, I never danced again. Rediscovering the joy of dance at the age of 50 feels simply marvelous. Life should be an engaging experience; continuously learning new skills is essential. Maintaining a zest for life enables you to grasp the fleeting essence of youth”

Let Us Move On Together

Another emotionally resonant moment in “Xiao Xia” occurs towards the end of the song, when a chorus of backing vocals gradually joins in, transforming the initial soft solo into a powerful collective voice. This transition amplifies the emotional impact of the line, “Oh, so many people love me.” These backing vocals symbolically represent the music colleagues and loyal audiences who have steadfastly accompanied Qishan throughout her career. It is because of the unwavering love and support from countless individuals that Qishan has garnered the strength and courage to declare, “Let’s move on together.”

While many yearn for another album of Xiao Xia, Huang Qishan asserted during this interview that 3.0 will serve as the definitive conclusion. Although a prequel, Xiao Xia -1.0, may emerge in the future, recounting her childhood experiences from before the age of 20 to her teenage years, there will not be a Xiao Xia 4.0. “There won’t be a 4.0; in life, it is sometimes necessary to conclude at an appropriate juncture. I am uncertain when this childhood Xiao Xia album will materialize; perhaps I will create it when inspiration strikes.”

Nevertheless, the Xiao Xia that Huang Qishan has bestowed upon the world and herself is already deeply embedded in the hearts of every attentive listener. As a heartfelt gesture, the behind-the-scenes team of Xiao Xia prepared a unique surprise for her — each member inscribed their signatures on the covers of the three Xiao Xia albums. Qishan was overwhelmed with emotions, “there has been an empty wall in my house for several years, and now suddenly there is something to adorn it. It feels as though this wall has been eagerly awaiting the arrival of these precious gifts.”
