Reneé Rapp Has ‘Had Enough’ of Fans Questioning Her Sexuality Online

Throughout her career, Reneé Rapp has made it a point to be as open about her sexuality as possible. But in a recent social media post, the “Not My Fault” singer told her fans that enough is enough.

After Rapp started referring to herself as a lesbian in multiple public appearances over the last few months, discourse began among the singer’s fans, with some openly asking if the star still identified as bisexual. Rapp put an end to the speculation on Monday (March 25) in a post on X: “if I say I’m a lesbian I am a lesbian and if someone says they’re bi they are bi,” she wrote. “I’ve had enough of you witches.”

Over the last few years, Rapp has spoken about identifying as bisexual, even writing about her experience as a bisexual woman on the song “Pretty Girls” from her critically acclaimed debut album Snow Angel. But during her appearance as a musical guest on Saturday Night Live in January, Rapp performed as herself in a sketch about celebrity lip-reading where her fellow cast members referred to her as “little lesbian intern Reneé.”

Since then, Rapp started speaking about owning her identity as a lesbian. In a recent cover story for The Hollywood Reporter, Rapp said she was still navigating the new label that she placed on her sexuality. “I’ve only recently started referring to myself as a lesbian, and I’ve only recently been in a relationship where I’m like, ‘Yeah, I’m a lesbian for sure,’” she said. “I’m watching all these movies and parts of gay culture, specifically lesbian culture, and I’m like, ‘I love this.’”

Fans were quick to share messages of support for the singer on social media, reminding other users that how Rapp identifies her sexuality is her business, not theirs. “no cuz i’m glad she’s spoken up about it cuz literally who are u to tell her anything about herself,” one user wrote. Another added that “y’all forget sexualities can change they’re just labels.”

Rapp recently made headlines after winning the 2024 GLAAD Media Award for outstanding musical artist. Taking to the stage at the March 14 ceremony to accept her award, Rapp used her speech to call for an “immediate and permanent” ceasefire in Gaza, while encouraging viewers to “continue to advocate for yourselves, continue to advocate for your friends, your queer friends and for those who can’t advocate for themselves.”

Cardi B Threatens to Sue LAPD, Claims Police Accused Her of Drug Trafficking

Cardi B has opened up about what she says was a frightening interaction with the Los Angeles Police Department she had over the weekend.

The Bronx native recounted details about the LAPD incident during an Instagram Live session early Monday (March 25), during which she alleged that officers accused her of trafficking fentanyl and having a weapon in her car.

“You don’t even know what happened to me yesterday, like, y’all don’t even know,” Cardi said. “I got stopped by the cops and everything. I got stopped by the cops yesterday. You gon’ see, it’s gonna hit TMZ real soon. They thought I was trafficking. Yeah, they thought I was trafficking fentanyl. And they thought I had a gun in my car.”

The Grammy-winning rapper went on to allege that they had her outside for “three hours,” and said she’s planning to sue the LAPD.

“They had me getting butt naked outside,” she continued. “S–t was crazy. It was deada– a movie and whatever. But you already know I’m ’bout to sue the LAPD. They got me f–ked up for doing it.”

Cardi believes one of her “opps” put the police up to this, as she claimed the officers admitted they received a tip about her.

“It was, like, some white cops or something. They didn’t know who I was so they was really tough on me and everything. They said that somebody gave them a clue,” the 31-year-old alleged. “I already feel like it was one of my opps and s–t. They really trying to ruin my life.”

When reached for comment, the LAPD denied Cardi B’s allegations and told Billboard, “We don’t have any record of any traffic stop.”

Billboard has reached out to Cardi B’s reps for comment.

On the music side, Cardi is staying busy heading into her anticipated sophomore album. The “WAP” rapper’s latest single earned her another top 10 entry on the Billboard Hot 100 — the 12th of her career — with “Enough (Miami)” debuting at No. 9 this week.

Kristen Stewart Says Ryan Gosling’s ‘I’m Just Ken’ Oscars Performance Made Her ‘Emotional’

This Barbie loves Ken!

Kristen Stewart appeared on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast recently, which was recorded one day after the 2024 Academy Awards, which she revealed that she watched from home. The Twilight actress added that Ryan Gosling’s standout “I’m Just Ken” performance particularly moved her.

“I was, for some reason, crying and laughing while watching the Ken thing. It’s emotional, dude, watching Greta [Gerwig] watch it. When they did the one cutaway of her and she was just, like, front-row belting and looking at the thing she helped kickstart,” Stewart noted, adding that she’s a “super-duper fan” of the 2023 Barbie film.

Following Barbie‘s theatrical release in July, “I’m Just Ken” debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 87 — making Gosling a charting artist on the ranking for the first time. In the popular film, the high-energy, multi-set scene finds the Notebook actor singing his heart out about his “blond fragility” alongside Simu Liu and a number other Kens.

The ballad was one of five best original song nominees at this year’s Oscars ceremony, along with the winning track — Billie Eilish and Finneas’ fellow Barbie hit “What Was I Made For?” — as well as Becky G‘s “The Fire Inside” from Flamin’ Hot, Jon Batiste‘s “It Never Went Away” from American Symphony, and Scott George and the Osage Singers’ “Wahzhazhe (A Song for My People)” from Killers of the Flower Moon. All of the best original song candidates performed their respective tracks live during the ceremony.

The 10 Best Moments of Ultra Music Festival 2024

Despite (and maybe also because of) a Friday night rainstorm, dance music’s first festival of the 2024 season felt like one for the record books.

It’s officially festival season 2024, and Ultra Music Festival in Miami just fired the starting gun.

The 24th edition of the downtown festival popped back up in Bayfront Park this past Friday to Sunday, March 22 – 24. The three-night extravaganza fed some 55,000 ravers a day a steady diet of bass, synths, builds, drops, sing-alongs and put-your-hands-up moments of elation.

Of course, it also brought a historic amount of rain, lightning and the first emergency evacuation in the festival’s history. Organizers were forced to close gates a few hours early on Friday night just after 9 p.m. and to open late the following Saturday at 4:00 p.m., instead of the usually scheduled noon. This also forced the fest to do some creative rescheduling — and while not everyone got the chance to come back for another day, Ultra and its very international audience were more than happy to make the most of it.

Unfortunate weather aside, this year’s Ultra Miami was as magical as it’s ever been. In a most surprising move, the City of Miami — which kicked the festival out in 2019 because of complaints from residents about the noise and heavy traffic, only to invite it back the following year — gifted the music festival an extra hour of play time Saturday night, helping with the effort to reschedule some of the canceled headline sets.

From rare back-to-backs and over-the-top firework displays, drone shows, nostalgic reunions, special guests and glimmers of hope, here’s what we’ll remember for years to come.

Michael Jackson Estate Battle, Judge Quotes Taylor Swift, AI Deepfake Legislation & More Top Legal News

This is The Legal Beat, a weekly newsletter about music law from Billboard Pro, offering you a one-stop cheat sheet of big new cases, important rulings and all the fun stuff in between.

This week: A legal battle between Michael Jackson’s mother and his estate over a massive deal; a ruling on Metallica’s COVID lawsuit that quotes Taylor Swift; a new first-of-its-kind statute in Tennessee aimed at AI-generated deepfakes; and much more.

THE BIG STORY: Jackson Family Feud

Fifteen years after Michael Jackson’s death, his mother is locked in an increasingly acrimonious legal battle with his estate – and, as of last week, with her own grandson, too.

The trouble started last year, when Katherine Jackson filed legal objections to an unspecified transaction that had been proposed by the estate. The disputed deal wasn’t explicitly named in filings, but it appears to be the estimated $600 million catalog deal with Sony Music that was first reported by Billboard last month. A judge rejected those complaints in April 2023, but Katherine is now battling to overturn that ruling at a California appeals court.

Trending on Billboard

Why the sudden flashpoint last week? Because Katherine is asking the estate to pay for the legal bills she’s incurred while litigating her objections – a request that drew sharp rebukes.

One came from Michael’s son, Bigi Jackson, who says that Katherine’s ongoing objections to the Sony deal are a “waste” of time and that it would be “unfair” to force him and his siblings to foot the bill for them. Another came from estate executors John Branca and John McClain, who say the estate has already paid the elder Jackson more than $55 million since Michael’s death and shouldn’t have to pay for her “frivolous” appeal.

Go read our full stories on Bigi’s objections and the executors’ pushback, and stay tuned for how it all shakes out…

Other top stories this week…

METALLICA, COVID AND… TAYLOR? – Judges can be Swifties, too. In an unusual ruling that quoted from Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well,” a California appeals court rejected a lawsuit filed by the band Metallica that demanded its insurance company pay for more than $3 million in losses stemming from concerts that were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The case is one of numerous lawsuits, many of them unsuccessful, that have aimed at forcing insurance companies to pay for losses caused by pandemic cancellations.

DIDDY’S HOUSES RAIDED – Law enforcement agents reportedly searched homes owned by Sean “Diddy” Combs in Los Angeles and Miami as part of an ongoing sex trafficking investigation led by federal prosecutors in New York. The federal raids came amid a flurry of civil sexual abuse lawsuits against the hip-hop mogul – allegations Combs has strongly denied. It’s not clear whether the rapper himself is the target of the federal investigation.

NEW AI VOICE STATUTE – Tennessee enacted first-in-the-nation legislation aimed at protecting musical artists and other individuals from so-called deep fakes that are generated by artificial intelligence – an issue that’s been top of mind for the industry since a fake Drake song went viral last year. The new law – the Ensuring Likeness Voice and Image Security, or ELVIS, Act – updates the state’s existing rules on image and likeness rights, explicitly including a person’s voice for the first time.

PYRRHI© VICTORY? – Six months after Sam Smith and Normani beat a copyright lawsuit claiming they had stolen elements of their 2019 hit “Dancing With a Stranger” from an earlier track, a federal judge refused to force their accuser to reimburse the legal fees they spent litigating the case — a bill the stars say exceeded $700,000. While unsuccessful, the judge ruled that the case was “neither frivolous nor objectively unreasonable.”

UMG to Distribute HYBE Globally, Taps Scooter Braun to Head Promotional Activities in North America

Universal Music Group (UMG) has expanded its relationship with HYBE to include the exclusive digital and physical distribution rights to the company’s artists for the next 10 years. UMG will also continue to collaborate with HYBE’s Weverse to onboard more UMG signees to the superfan platform.

Scooter Braun, CEO of HYBE America, will take on new responsibilities with the new agreement. The SB Projects founder and former manager to Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato and J Balvin will now oversee all promotional and marketing collaborations between HYBE and UMG in North America.

Notably, this exclusive distribution deal does not include social media sites YouTube, Meta and TikTok, allowing HYBE artists to remain on the short-form video app despite UMG’s current licensing feud with TikTok.

Trending on Billboard

The announcement builds upon the already established relationship between HYBE and UMG which started in 2017 with a partnership that gave UMG distribution rights to HYBE’s BTS in Japan. In late 2021, HYBE expanded the deal to grant UMG’s Geffen Records distribution rights for BTS in the United States and other regions, moving their U.S. distribution over from Sony Music’s Columbia Records.

Geffen and HYBE also worked together via a joint venture to put together the Netflix and YouTube streaming documentary series The Debut: Dream Academy in which the two music companies work together to form an American girl group using HYBE’s K-pop methodology.

Last year, BMG also moved some of its distribution to Universal Music. In October, the company announced that it would move its physical distribution to UMG’s Commercial Services divison, starting in the second quarter of 2024. It will be fully transitioned by the end of 2024.

“A partnership of this magnitude only comes together when both sides are equally committed to continued growth,” says Bang Si-Hyuk, Chairman of HYBE. “UMG is an iconic music company and together with HYBE, the potential is endless. We are certain that this will expand our global footprint, while benefiting our fans, artists, and labels.”

“Chairman Bang, Scooter Braun and Jiwon Park have brought an innovative and progressive vision to the industry that underscores music’s global power,” adds Lucian Grainge, Chairman and CEO of Universal Music Group. “With the opportunities in engaging the superfan via their groundbreaking Weverse model, we’re thrilled to grow and expand our platform business collaboration as we evolve together leading the music industry’s evolution.”

“This incredible partnership between our companies will ensure mutual benefits and collaborations for the fans, teams, artists, and labels around the world,” says Braun, CEO of HYBE America. “The opportunity created here not only allows us to help our current roster, but grow opportunities for independent artists and labels globally. I’ve known and respected Sir Lucian Grainge for many years, and alongside chairman Bang and HYBE CEO Jiwon Park, we look forward to the undeniable opportunities that will come from this partnership as we together grow the music industry’s future.”

Hot 100 First-Timers: FloyyMenor Debuts With Cris MJ Collab ‘Gata Only’

Chilean singer FloyyMenor arrives on the Billboard Hot 100 (dated March 30) for the first time thanks to his breakthrough viral hit “Gata Only” with Cris MJ.

The song debuts at No. 98 on the strength of its streaming sum: 5.1 million U.S. streams (up 13%) in the March 15-21 tracking week, according to Luminate. It also rises 12-10 on Hot Latin Songs, marking his first top 10 in his first visit to the survey.

Internationally, the song ranks at No. 12 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart – after becoming his first top 10, reaching No. 10 – and jumps 22-13 on the Billboard Global 200. On the Chile Songs chart, it tallies a sixth week at No. 1.

TikTok has been a big contributor to the song’s growth, as “Gata Only” has been featured in more than 28,000 clips on the platform to date. That activity prompted the song’s debut at No. 43 on the TikTok Billboard Top 50 chart dated March 16; it held at that position in its second week.

FloyyMenor is a relative newcomer to Billboard’s charts. “Gata Only” is his first song to reach a U.S. Billboard chart. He’s charted one additional track on the Chile Songs list: “Pa La Europa” reached No. 24 in June 2023.

FloyyMenor has released more than a dozen solo songs on streaming services, all since 2022. He has also collaborated with Chiko Alfa, Jairo Vera, Djay W and ITHAN NY (“Corte Gangster”), Brockk (“Maldades”) and NBA Afro (“Vente Paka”).

As for Cris MJ, “Gata Only” earns the fellow Chilean artist his second career entry on the Hot 100, after “Una Noche En Medellin (Remix),” with Karol G and Ryan Castro, in August 2023. The latter is from Karol G’s album Mañana Será Bonito (Bichota Season), which debuted at No. 1 on Top Latin Albums and No. 3 on the Billboard 200.

Zayn Malik Says He’s Been Revisiting One Direction’s Music & Wants to Collaborate With Miley Cyrus

Zayn Malik is reflecting on his past while setting some goals for his future. In a Monday (March 25) Stationhead stream, the 31-year-old singer revealed that he’s been enjoying listening to the decade-plus-old music he and his One Direction bandmates made back in the day, as well as shared that he hopes to team up with Miley Cyrus in the studio someday.

During the broadcast — which ironically took place exactly nine years after Malik shocked fans by announcing his departure from the boy band in 2015 — the “Pillowtalk” singer spoke fondly about his time with Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne. “I’ve been listening to a bit of One Direction music recently, reminiscing,” he said. “Good times.”

Trending on Billboard

“We made some good music as a band,” Malik added. “We were pretty good.”

One Direction formed in 2010 after all five members auditioned separately on The X Factor. Before Malik left to pursue a solo career, the group released four albums together, each of which hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

Since going solo, the musician has collaborated with artists such as Taylor Swift, PARTYNEXTDOOR and Sia. Next on the list? Miley Cyrus, or so Malik hopes.

“I’d like to do a collaboration with her,” he said during the stream. “I like her recent music a lot. She’s got a sick voice and I think we could do something really cool together especially in line with what my new record sounds like. Miley, if you heard this, and you’re interested, I’m here.”

Malik is fresh off the release of his new single “What I Am,” which dropped March 15 ahead of his upcoming album Room Under the Stairs. The full set will arrive May 17.

50 Cent Mocks Diddy After Federal Agents Raid His Homes: ‘It’s Diddy Done’

50 Cent is never one to mince words, and he’s continued mocking his longtime foe Diddy for years whenever the embattled Bad Boy mogul has been entrenched in trials and tribulations.

After federal agents raided Diddy’s Miami and Los Angeles estates Monday, the G-Unit boss didn’t waste any time on Tuesday (March 26) to get back on the offensive and troll Combs with a post to X.

“Now it’s not Diddy do it, it’s Diddy done they don’t come like that unless they got a case,” 50 declared with accompanying screenshots of the raid report and footage that appeared to show Diddy’s sons Justin and King Combs being detained.

Trending on Billboard

The Queens rapper added in a since-deleted post: “S–t just got real the Fed’s in all the cribs, d–n they got the kids in cuffs.”

Back in December, 50 confirmed that he was working on a documentary through his G-Unit Films division about the history of sexual misconduct allegations against Diddy, with the “Disco Inferno” rapper promising to donate proceeds to help victims of sexual assault.

A rep for 50 Cent relayed a statement to Variety in December, laying out plans for the documentary. “The untitled Diddy documentary is in development through G-Unit Film and Television with Curtis 50 Cent Jackson serving as executive producer, proceeds from this documentary that G-Unit Film & Television receives will go to victims of sexual assault and rape,” the rep said.

According to CNN, the Department of Homeland Security Investigations New York confirmed after reports of raids at Diddy’s homes surfaced that it had “executed law enforcement actions as part of an ongoing investigation,” which a law enforcement source told the cable news network is related to an ongoing sex trafficking investigation.

It’s unknown whether Diddy was home at the time of the raids. TMZ posted footage of Diddy pacing around the Miami airport from Monday while his private jet was tracked to Antigua.

Reps for Diddy and the LAPD and Miami police departments have not yet returned Billboard‘s multiple requests for comment.

Diddy has been the subject of multiple sexual assault-related civil lawsuits. Ex-girlfriend Cassie lit the fuse in November 2023 with a lawsuit accusing Diddy of physical abuse, repeated sexual assault and trafficking while they were dating. The two parties agreed to settle the lawsuit less than 24 hours later.

When reached for a statement about the raid reports, Douglas Wigdor — lawyer for Cassie as well as a Jane Doe in a claim against Diddy — responded to Billboard in part: “We will always support law enforcement when it seeks to prosecute those that have violated the law.”

Diddy has denied any wrongdoing and attempted to clear his name with a post to social media in December.

“ENOUGH IS ENOUGH,” he wrote at the time. “For the last couple of weeks, I have sat silently and watched people try to assassinate my character, destroy my reputation and my legacy. Sickening allegations have been made against me by individuals looking for a quick payday. Let me be absolutely clear: I did not do any of the awful things being alleged. I will fight for my name, my family and for the truth.”

A lawyer for Diddy vehemently denied the allegations against his client and called the accusations “pure fiction.”
