Diddy’s Attorney Vows to End ‘Witch Hunt’ After Multiple Raids Led By Federal Agents

After his Los Angeles and Miami homes were raided by law enforcement on Monday (Mar. 25) following his involvement in an ongoing federal sex traffic investigation, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ attorney, Aaron Dyer, sent Billboard a statement calling the raid an “unprecedented ambush” and labeling the takedowns against his client as a “witch hunt.”

“Yesterday, there was a gross overuse of military-level force as search warrants were executed at Mr. Combs’ residences,” Dyer tells Billboard on Tuesday (March 26). “There is no excuse for the excessive show of force and hostility exhibited by authorities or the way his children and employees were treated. Mr. Combs was never detained but spoke to and cooperated with authorities.”

Dyer adds that Diddy and his family haven’t been arrested and can travel freely even after yesterday’s incident.

Trending on Billboard

“Despite media speculation, neither Mr. Combs nor any of his family members have been arrested nor has their ability to travel been restricted in any way. This unprecedented ambush — paired with an advanced, coordinated media presence — leads to a premature rush to judgment of Mr. Combs and is nothing more than a witch hunt based on meritless accusations made in civil lawsuits. There has been no finding of criminal or civil liability with any of these allegations. Mr. Combs is innocent and will continue to fight every single day to clear his name.”

Executed by Homeland Security, cops swarmed Diddy’s LA residence, and footage showed his sons, Justin and Christian Combs detained outside of the property. Earlier today, it was reported that Diddy agreed to sell his stake in Revolt TV. The news comes months after he stepped down from his chairman position amid sexual assault allegations. According to TMZ, Combs sold his remaining shares to an undisclosed buyer, and the deal was reportedly finalized this week.

Diddy Sells Revolt TV Stake to Anonymous Buyer: Report

Sean “Diddy” Combs has reportedly agreed to a deal to sell his stake in Revolt TV after stepping down from his role as chairman in November amid sexual assault allegations.

According to TMZ, Combs sold his remaining shares of Revolt to an anonymous buyer. The report notes that the company will remain Black-owned. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Revolt TV’s new owner is reported to be keeping their identity hidden for the next few weeks but will eventually have a formal introduction as the head of the media company at a later date.

Trending on Billboard

The deal was reportedly finalized this week; Revolt’s current CEO, Detavio Samuels, and chief brand officer, Deon Graham, will remain in their roles for the time being.

The news broke as Combs’ Miami and Los Angeles homes were reportedly raided by federal agents on Monday (March 25). The raids were executed by Homeland Security “in connection” with an ongoing federal sex trafficking investigation, according to reports.

TMZ reported on Monday that Homeland Security of New York launched an ongoing investigation linked to Combs and that the case is being handled out of the Southern District of New York.

With officers swarming the Los Angeles property, video footage appeared to show individuals being detained, two of whom appeared to be Diddy’s sons, King Combs and Justin Combs. It’s unknown whether the elder Combs was at either home during the raids.

Combs has been the subject of numerous sexual assault-related civil lawsuits over the past several months. Ex-girlfriend Cassie lit the fuse in November 2023 when she filed a lawsuit accusing Combs of physical abuse and repeated sexual assault while they were dating. The two parties agreed to settle the lawsuit less than 24 hours later.

Later in November, after being accused of sexual abuse by two more women, Combs stepped down as chairman of Revolt, which he helped launch in 2013. In the months since, he has been accused of sexual assault in two additional lawsuits: one filed by a Jane Doe who claimed he “sex trafficked” and “gang raped” her and another by a music producer who allegedly worked with Combs on his 2023 album, The Love Album: Off the Grid.

The Bad Boy CEO has denied any wrongdoing and attempted to clear his name with a post on social media in December.

“ENOUGH IS ENOUGH,” Combs wrote at the time. “For the last couple of weeks, I have sat silently and watched people try to assassinate my character, destroy my reputation and my legacy. Sickening allegations have been made against me by individuals looking for a quick payday. Let me be absolutely clear: I did not do any of the awful things being alleged. I will fight for my name, my family and for the truth.”

Billboard has reached out to representatives for Combs for comment on this story.

Madlib Salutes MF DOOM On 20th Anniversary Of ‘Madvillainy’

HipHopWired Featured Video

Pitchfork Music Festival - Day 2

Madlib has been a part of several projects as both a rapper and producer that Hip-Hop aficionados praise heavily but few have reached the critical heights of Madvillainy. On the 20th anniversary of the collaborative project featuring Madlib and the late MF DOOM, the Beat Konducta gave a strong salute to the masked supervillain.

Taking to Instagram, Madlib shared a clip of a video for Madvillainy standout cut “All Caps” and captioned the post with, “20 years. RIP to the Villain.”

It was remarkable considering the Oxnard, Calif. native isn’t on social media much at all. As it stands, Madvillainy is considered a modern-era classic and influenced several rappers such as many members of the Pro Era collective (Joey BadA$$, Chuck Strangers, Kirk Knight, etc.) and Yasiin Bey among others.

Peanut Butter Wolf, the founder of Stones Throw Records which put out the album, also chimed in on Complex Music’s post about Madvillainy and shared that it is the only album on the label to achieve gold status.

From IG:

Here’s some more facts. This was an album where Madlib chose to record the beats in my basement that we called The Bomb Shelter (it was a literally a concrete bomb shelter). DOOM recorded his vocals in my bedroom down the hall where we also had @ecoleye do a photo shoot that became the album cover. The LA release party was at The Fonda (a modest sized venue) and we stacked the bill w/ me, J Rocc, Madlib, Dilla, and Common, besides (the headliner) DOOM because we were afraid it wouldn’t sell out. We did a few more shows that month with the same lineup in a few major markets to small but very excited crowds. That was it in terms of promotion, besides doing 3 LOW BUDGET music videos (2 in the same day) that I convinced DOOM into reluctantly doing. It’s the first (and only) album on my 28 year old label to go gold.

The dense poetics of Madvillainy have never been replicated as MF DOOM had a style so unique to his vocal tone that it wouldn’t sound right coming from another artist. Adding to the lore, the production from The Bad Kid was performed on what some might consider simple equipment.

The bulk of the beats were made on a Boss Dr. Sample Sp-303 sampler, a tape deck, and a portable turntable with records discovered in Brazil and other travels. The mixing and mastering were overseen by Dave Cooley, who previously worked on records with J Dilla, Adrian Younge, and remastering projects from the late Isaac Hayes and more.

Mel B Feels ‘So Sorry’ for Kate Middleton Following Cancer Diagnosis

Mel B stopped by the Tamron Hall Show on Tuesday morning (March 26), where she opened up about the updated version of her memoir, Brutally Honest.

As the book is about sharing her truth, Hall asked the Spice Girl what she thought of Kate Middleton revealing that she’s undergoing treatment for cancer. “I feel so sorry for her,” the West Yorkshire native said of the Princess of Wales. “Let her go through what she’s going through behind closed doors. It’s almost like she was forced to make a statement when she’s going through a horrible diagnosis.”

Earlier this month, Princess Kate shared a health update in response to weeks of online conspiracy theories and rumors about her whereabouts, ranging from media reports about a divorce from Prince William to plastic surgery and more. “In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London, and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous,” she said in a video released to social media on March 2022. “The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy, and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.”

She added that she and Prince William “have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family. As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment.”

The Princess of Wales continued, “It has taken us time to explain everything to [children] George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be ok. As I have said to them; I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and spirits.”

A palace spokesperson revealed to People that Princess Kate started preventative chemotherapy in late February.

Elsewhere in her interview, Mel B discussed her upcoming wedding to hairdresser Rory McPhee, adding that fellow Spice Girl Victoria Beckham will be making her dress. “He’s a family friend,” Mel said of Rory. “He already knew my dad before my dad passed away, so there was already that installed trust and respect and safety. I wasn’t starting from scratch.”

The Air Max Dn features a dual pressure air unit comprised of two pressurized chambers, each equipped with two, higher pressure tubes in the back and lower pressure in the front.

The shoe retails for $160 for adults and $130 for kids.

“When I think about keeping an Air Max model fresh, color is actually the first thing I think of,” Juliana Sagat Lead Footwear Designer for Nike Lifestyle said in a press release. “You usually think about the visible Air unit carrying the emotion, but we see color as a holistic tool to bring more emotion to a silhouette. The Dn was designed so that color works precisely and in unison with the Dynamic Air platform, the upper, and the general profile of the shoe. When you can do that, your form of self-expression is limitless.”

Nike Air Max: A Brief History

The Air Max has been around for nearly 40 years. Nike debuted the innovative sneaker, designed by Tinker Hatfield, on March 26, 1987.

Paris’ the Centre Pompidou inspired the design for the original Air Max. As the story goes, Nike sent Hatfield to Paris for inspiration, which he found in the Centre Pompidou’s deconstructed design – the building is essentially flipped “inside out” with all of its mechanics featured on the outside. Hatfield channeled that concept into the Air Max’s exposed air bubble.

The Air Max also features groundbreaking, cushioning technology for a more comfortable step. The shoe remains one of Nike’s bestsellers along with the Nike Dunk, and retro favorites such as the Air Jordan 3 and Air Force 1.

Nike has been celebrating Air Max Day since 2014, which it usually commemorates with the release of a new design. In addition to the Air Max Dn, Nike also unveiled the Air Max 1 ’86 Premium in a new colorways.

The Nike Air Max Dn is available at nike.com, although some colorways are already sold out in select sizes. You can also find the Nike Air Max Dn in stores and on the SNKRS app.

Taylor Swift’s Dad Won’t Face Charges After Being Accused of Assaulting a Photographer in Australia

Taylor Swift‘s father, Scott Swift, will not face charges after he was accused of assaulting a cameraman in Australia.

Authorities confirmed in a statement to Billboard on Tuesday (March 26) that New South Wales police have decided not to take any further action in regards to Scott, who was accused last month of assaulting a photographer while accompanying his daughter on a visit to the Neutral Bay Wharf in Sydney.

“Officers attached to North Shore Police Area Command have conducted an investigation following a report of an assault at Neutral Bay Wharf about 2.30am on Tuesday 27 February 2024,” an NSW Police Force spokesperson said in a statement. “There will be no further police action.”

Billboard has reached out to Swift’s rep for comment.

Trending on Billboard

The alleged incident occurred shortly after the pop star’s final show at Accor Stadium, where she played four nights as part of her global Eras Tour. At the time, police confirmed in a statement to People that they were investigating a report that “a 71-year-old man allegedly assaulted a 51-year-old man at Neutral Bay Wharf” around 2:30 a.m. local time, noting that the younger man “did not require medical treatment.”

Shortly afterward, one of the “Anti-Hero” singer’s reps told Billboard: “Two individuals were aggressively pushing their way towards Taylor, grabbing at her security personnel, and threatening to throw a female staff member into the water.”

Since performing in Sydney, Swift has taken her Eras trek to Singapore, and she’ll next hold shows in Europe this summer. She’s now in the midst of a two-month break from performances as she gears up to release her new album The Tortured Poets Department on April 19.

Scott has long been a fixture of the 14-time Grammy winner’s touring enterprise, with fans reporting for years that the stockbroker enjoys passing out guitar picks to audience members at shows. At recent concerts, he’s been spotted hanging out with Swift’s boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

The Gospel Music Association Announces New Spanish Language Category for 2024 Dove Awards

On Tuesday (March 26), the Gospel Music Association (GMA) announced a new category dedicated to Spanish representation in Christian music for their annual Dove Awards. The award for Spanish language worship recorded song of the year will debut at the 55th GMA Dove Awards, set to take place on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at the Allen Arena in Nashville. Nominations will be announced on July 24.

The new award, which will recognize the talent of performers and songwriters of worship songs, joins two other pre-existing Latin music categories: Spanish language album of the year, established in 1998, and Spanish language recorded song of the year, created in 2017. (Bands Generación 12 and Miel San Marcos were the winners of these awards, respectively, last year).

The initiative responds to a 30% increase in Spanish-language music entries submitted to the awards show in the last five years, as well as the constant growth of Spanish language music in genres ranging including worship, urban, pop, and rock.

Trending on Billboard

“We have witnessed this genre boom internationally, without precedent or barriers,” Justin Fratt, executive vice president of the Gospel Music Association, said in a press release. “For us, it has been an honor to support our colleagues from various Latin American and Spanish-speaking countries, celebrating the greatness of their music.”

The effort was backed by other companies in the Latin Christian industry such as CanZion, Capitol CMG/Universal, Creation Music, Curb Records, Heaven and Sony/Provident, according to the release.

Henry Alonzo, CCO of Christian music publishing and distribution company Adarga Entertainment Group, tells Billboard Español that its audio and video streaming numbers have quadrupled recently, and that its artists — who have included Miel San Marcos, Alex Campos and Jesús Adrian — have reached the same stages as those in other genres of Latin music. “All this is thanks to the work done by the same industry that supports artists of this genre,” he said.

Since its foundation in 1964, GMA has served a highly diverse community of creatives and professionals within the Christian and gospel music industry. Its mission is to expose, promote and celebrate gospel music. Through the GMA Foundation and the GMA Gospel Music Hall of Fame, the association seeks to preserve the legacy of the genre’s pioneers, while celebrating the work of contemporary artists with events such as the Dove Awards.

Russian Rock Band Picnic Returns to Stage After Moscow Terrorist Attack, Remains Apolitical as Pro-Kremlin Media Blames Ukraine

Since Russia invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24, 2022, most of the country’s musical acts have taken sides, either supporting or condemning the war – but not Picnic.

The aging Russian rock band notably refrained from making any statements about the invasion of Ukraine. Many of their fellow musicians faced touring bans or exile for voicing their opposition, while others performed on the frontlines in solidarity with the Kremlin or in occupied Ukrainian territories.

Now, 46 years after its formation, Picnic has grabbed more global attention than ever for tragic reasons: Its planned concert at the Crocus City Hall in Moscow became the site of a mass shooting last Friday (March 22), with at least 137 lives lost in the terrorist attack. ISIS-K, an offshoot of the terrorist group ISIS, claimed responsibility for the March 22 attack.

Since then, some Russian media outlets have claimed that the band supported Russia’s military operation in Ukraine, suggesting this was one of the reasons that terrorist gunmen targeted the show.

Trending on Billboard

The band did not comment on these reports. In fact, the band’s current frontman, Edmund Shklyarsky, who joined in 1981 as a guitarist and soon became Picnic’s main songwriter, has remained steadfastly apolitical since the terrorist attack. In his only public comments in the wake of the tragedy, he released a video address expressing “condolences to everyone who, involuntarily and naturally, found themselves involved in this terrible tragedy, utterly senseless. It is clear that there are no words that can resurrect or console people. But, of course, we offer our condolences to all relatives.”

Picnic will brave the stage again on Wednesday (March 27) at St. Petersburg’s Oktyabrsky concert hall. The concert will be dedicated to the victims of the Crocus City Hall attack, with the band announcing on social media that proceeds will be donated to the families of those who lost their lives or were injured in the attack.

The band’s manager, Yuri Chernyshevsky, wouldn’t comment on Picnic’s views on the war with Ukraine, and told Billboard that “you would need to ask the terrorists why they targeted Picnic’s show or why they targeted Crocus City Hall. I hope law enforcement will determine that.”

In the early 1980s, Picnic became part of the Leningrad Rock Club, an organization, allegedly controlled by the KGB, that facilitated underground and semi-underground rock bands to perform at a time when rock music in the Soviet Union faced scrutiny, if not outright bans. Later, Picnic’s songs drew criticism from Communist authorities for lyrics referencing illegal drug use.

In the latter half of the 1980s, Picnic, like other bands, benefited from the perestroika and glasnost reforms in the Soviet Union, which allowed formerly underground rock bands to officially tour and record. However, unlike some prominent bands of the period, Picnic largely avoided social and political issues, focusing more on esoteric and mystical themes in their lyrics.

Currently, the band includes the 68-year-old Shklyarsky, his son Stas on keyboards, bassist Marat Korchemny and drummer Leonid Kirnos. The band’s fan base is diverse, ranging from older listeners who have followed Picnic since the 1980s to younger fans introduced to the band through social media.

At the time of the March 22 attack, musicians from Picnic and a 65-piece orchestra set to accompany the rock band were in their respective dressing rooms and were promptly evacuated. However, Ekaterina Kushner, a member of Picnic’s administrative staff manning the merchandise table, died in the attack.

Another concert by Picnic and the symphonic orchestra was scheduled at the same venue on March 23. Almost all tickets for both performances at the 6,200-seat Crocus City Hall had been sold.
