Travis Scott & Cher’s Boy Toy, Alexander “A.E.” Edwards Duke Out It Out At Cannes Afterparty, Xitter Is Confused

Hip-Hop star Travis Scott and model and producer Alexander “A.E.” Edwards scrapping in Cannes was definitely not on our bingo cards.

Over the weekend, a video darker than the Game of Thrones episode The Long Night” hit timelines. In it, Travis Scott and Tyga supposedly exchange fists while in a nightclub in Cannes, France.

According to Variety, the “Goosebumps” crafter was not fighting his baby mama’s ex. Instead, he was getting physical with Cher’s current boyfriend and newest MAGA cult member, Amber Rose’s ex, Alexander Edwards.

Per Variety:

Early reports suggested the brawl involved rapper Tyga, although footage shared with Variety appears to show it was model and producer Alexander “A.E.” Edwards, Cher’s boyfriend and Tyga’s friend, and allegedly Scott who were throwing most of the punches. Sources close to the situation say American record producer Southside was also seen pushing Edwards, which is what possibly led to the escalation of the fight between Scott and Edwards.

The website contacted representatives for Edwards, Scott, and Southside but did not receive an immediate response.

Tyga Did Not Throw Any Punches

While many initially believed Tyga was involved in the altercation, Variety confirms he did not throw a punch. He and his buddy A.E. did not leave until early morning and were not seriously harmed.

As for Scott, he is no stranger to throwing hands at nightclubs.

About a year ago, Scott was involved in an altercation with a 52-year-old man during an afterparty Don Toliver was hosting at a New York nightclub.

Just a few weeks ago, Scott and event promoter Live Nation settled a majority of the ten wrongful death lawsuits that came after ten people were killed at his Astroworld Festival.

Scott has settled the remaining lawsuit set to go to trial, with jury selection taking place on May 8.

X Users Are React To Travis Scott & Tyga Being At Cannes

Once the fight video hit timelines, confusion was common among users on X, formerly Twitter, specifically because Tyga, Travis Scott, A.E., and Southside were in Cannes during a film festival.

Fair question.

Dame Dash Claims Jay-Z Was Pretending to Be Him on ‘Big Pimpin”

Dame Dash is making news again, and this time it’s for saying something about his former business partner and friend Jay-Z. Dame recently sat down with Omari Heflin and Terone Johnson of the “Moguls in the Making” podcast and made a big claim about one of the most legendary rap songs of the early 2000s: Jay-Z’s “Big Pimpin’.”

After giving his thoughts on the Drake and Kendrick feud, Dame was asked about Future using his name in a bar on a recent song. “Big pimpin’, rockin’ wit her like I’m Dame Dash,” Future raps on “Fried (She’s a Vibe)” off his and Metro’s No. 1 album We Don’t Trust You. “I f—k with Future for that,” says Dame.

The hosts then throw a curveball, saying that they heard the entire song was actually about him. Dame takes a beat and then reveals, “everything Jay said, he was pretending to be me.”

Trending on Billboard

Dash reiterated after co-host Terone Johnson said, “I heard that whole song was actually about Dame Dash.” Co-host Omari Heflin tries to confirm asking, “So you saying he ain’t tellin’ his story, he tellin’ your story?” to which Dame answered with a simple, “Duh.” You can watch the full interview here.

Billboard reached out to Jay-Z’s representatives for comment.

Surprisingly, this isn’t the first time Dame has made this claim. Last month, when he was a guest on the “My Expert Opinion” podcast, Dame was asked about getting name-dropped by Future. The Roc-A-Fella co-founder gave big ups to Future, saying, “Shout out to Future, ’cause he said my name on a current record. And, don’t think I don’t appreciate it. You know what’s cool about it? Future was talking about my past in the present.”

Dame then asked the room why Future would name drop him when he’s not the guy who made the record. “You were one of the stars of the video,” said Mecca, one of the hosts. “‘Cause n—s know it was about me,” Dame replied, as all the hosts started laughing.

It’s been reported that Dame regrets his behavior in the “Big Pimpin’” video — in a video released via TMZ back in 2017, Dash said he was “embarrassed” when he looked back on those days. “I would never want my daughter to have to go through that and if I ever saw my son Boogie doing that, we would have some serious issues,” he said.

Check out a clip from Dash’s appearance on “Moguls in the Making” below:

Pat Rolfe, Trailblazer Who Became One of the First Women to Lead a Major Music Publisher, Dies at 77

Nashville music publishing executive Linda Patterson “Pat” Rolfe, who became one of the first women to lead a major music publishing company in the early 1970s, died of cancer on Friday (May 24) at age 77.

Rolfe, a Waverly, Tenn., native, was born July 27, 1946. She graduated from Waverly Central High School in 1964 and moved to Nashville, launching her music industry career in 1966 at music publishing company Hill & Range. While at the company — which became a dominant music publishing player in country music in the 1950s and 1960s — she joined Lamar Fike, a member of Elvis Presley‘s entourage who worked in lighting and helped oversee Presley’s music publishing. She also worked on hit songs by Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, Eddy Arnold and bluegrass pioneer Bill Monroe.

Rolfe was elevated to a leadership role at Hill & Range — rare for a woman executive in that era — when she was named GM at Hill & Range in 1972. She also brought Celia Froehlig into the company fold, with both staying on until Chappell Music acquired the Hill & Range companies in 1975. Froehlig would go on to hold senior roles at EMI Music Publishing and Black River Entertainment.

Trending on Billboard

Following the acquisition, Rolfe continued at Chappell Music, which was named ASCAP publisher of the year seven times during her tenure. She rose to the role of vp and held that role until 1987, when Warner Bros. Music acquired the company.

That same year, longtime ASCAP Nashville head Connie Bradley offered Rolfe a position as director of membership relations. While at the performing rights organization, Rolfe rose to the role of vp, bringing such songwriters and singer-songwriters as Dierks Bentley, Brad Paisley, Wynonna Judd, Tony Mullins, Trevor Rosen, Hillary Lindsey, Gerry House, Josh Kear, Michael Knox and Chris Tompkins into the fold. She retired in 2010.

In 1991, seeking to further elevate women in the music industry, Rolfe teamed with Judy Harris and Shelia Shipley Biddy to co-found SOURCE, a nonprofit organization that supports women professionals in the Nashville music industry. She was inducted into the SOURCE Hall of Fame in 2012.

“We are heartbroken over the loss of one of our beloved Founding SOURCE members Pat Rolfe,” said SOURCE Nashville president Kari Barnhart in a statement. “Pat’s heart for recognizing and elevating the Women Behind the Music is a legacy that will continue to live on through the organization she lovingly helped build with our other founding members Judy Harris and Shelia Shipley-Biddy over 33 years ago. Pat remained dedicated to the organization as a member of the Source Awards Committee through the years.”

Rolfe also served on the boards of organizations including the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI), Nashville Music Association and Copyright Society of the South.

Rolfe is survived by her husband of 54 years, Mack, as well as stepchildren John (Vanessa), Jim (Mary K) and Dick (Michelle); seven grandchildren; brothers Jim, Mike, Joe and Charlie Patterson; and sister Margaret Simmons. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marie and George Patterson, her brother Jerry Patterson and sister-in-law Ann Patterson.

A visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday (May 29) from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Green Hills Community Church in Nashville, with the funeral service set to begin at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations go to the Bonaparte’s Retreat Dog Rescue, the Green Hills Community Church or a charity of your choosing.

Bad Bunny & Karol G Take the Lead on Billboard’s Monthly Touring Report

Bad Bunny is no stranger to the top of Boxscore charts. In 2022, he led four monthly rankings and then crowned the year-end list of the highest grossing tours worldwide. Naturally, he also topped that year’s Top Latin Tours tally, before Karol G took over in 2023, staging her own sold-out North American stadium tour. Now, as Billboard recaps the biggest tours of April 2024, Bad Bunny and Karol G team up at Nos. 1 and 2 on Top Tours and Top Boxscores.

According to figures reported to Billboard Boxscore, Bad Bunny grossed $63 million and sold 210,000 tickets in April, logging his second consecutive month at No. 1. The Most Wanted tour’s three-night run at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center contributed $17.8 million of that total, taking the lead on Top Boxscores. Five of his 14 shows in April marked all-time venue highs, among the 16 venue records he’s set since beginning the tour in February.

Including 14 shows in May, the Most Wanted Tour has grossed $207.8 million and sold 703,000 tickets since kicking off in Salt Lake City. Bad Bunny has three more shows to go at San Juan’s Coliseo de Puerto Rico on June 7-9.

Just beneath, Karol G’s Mañana Será Bonito Tour banked $45.1 million and sold 419,000 tickets from nine shows. It’s No. 2 on the gross-based Top Tours chart, but is the best-selling tour of the month, as the only trek to move more than 300,000 and 400,000 tickets. It’s April highlight was three shows at Estadio Nacional in Santiago, Chile, which is No. 2 on Top Boxscores with a gross of $15 million from 168,000 tickets sold.

It’s the first time that two Latin artists top both charts in succession. On Bad Bunny’s five previous No. 1s, stadium rock and country supported at No. 2, via Elton John, Def Leppard & Motley Crue, and Zach Bryan. When Los Bukis and RBD were on top, Dead & Company and Coldplay were runners-up, respectively.

Both artists have been major contributors to Latin’s growing prominence on the Boxscore charts in the post-pandemic era. Bad Bunny was the first artist to finish at No. 1 on the year-end Top Tours ranking who primarily performs in any language other than English, after BTS wound up at No. 3 in 2019. Karol G’s nine-figure gross in 2023 assured that Bad Bunny’s success was not a one-off or a fluke.

Before COVID-19 turned venues dark in 2020, no Latin artist had a tour that grossed more than $200 million. Now, there have been five, two of which are Bad Bunny and Karol G’s ongoing highlights atop the April recap. In addition to Most Wanted Tour’s $207.8 million, the Mañana Será Bonito Tour has earned $263.8 million and sold 1.8 million tickets since launching last August.

To add to the current noise, the Luis Miguel Tour 2023-24 (No. 6) is up to $258.5 million, current through May 19. Plus, RBD concluded its reunion tour in December, with a final gross of $227.1 million.

The other $200-million Latin tour is Bad Bunny’s own World’s Hottest Tour, which grossed $314.1 million in 2022. Both current tours by Bad Bunny and Karol G are ongoing, but it’s unlikely that either will break the all-time high mark among Latin artists set by World’s Hottest Tour. While the former has just three shows remaining, the latter will play 18 dates in Europe in June and July.

Karol G has averaged $6 million and 41,800 tickets per show across North and South America. That pace would guarantee her the Latin touring record, but her shows in Europe will be mostly in arenas, which cuts the potential per-show attendance in half, at least. To boot, ticket prices are lower in Europe than the U.S., across genres.

Europe is an uncommon territory for Latin artists to sell out arenas and stadiums, but the final leg of the Mañana Será Bonito Tour, especially its final four shows at Madrid’s Estadio Santiago Bernabeau, will likely push its overall haul very close to, or over the $300 million mark.

In addition to Latin’s dominance, country artists take another three of the top 10 spots on Top Tours. Luke Combs is No. 3 with $35.7 million, Kenny Chesney is No. 7 with $18 million, and last month’s runner-up, Zach Bryan, is No. 10 with $12.3 million. Beyond the top 10, Kane Brown and Tyler Childers follow at Nos. 11-12, with $11.5 million and $11.4 million, respectively.

Madonna (No. 4) and Nicki Minaj (No. 5) solidify a woman-dominated top five, while pacing the month’s tours among pop and rap artists, respectively. The former is No. 3 on Top Boxscores, with a five-night engagement at Mexico City’s Palacio de los Deportes. Rounding out the proper routing of her Celebration Tour, those shows grossed $14.8 million and sold 82,400 tickets on April 20-21, 23-24 and 26.

While New York is often represented atop the Top Venues (15,001+ capacity) chart via Manhattan’s Madison Square Garden, Brooklyn’s Barclays Center takes the No. 1 spot for the first time in April, with $26.7 million and 99,200 tickets sold across seven shows. That’s an all-time high monthly rank and gross for the arena, having previously inched past the $20 million mark last July, when it sat at No. 2 behind MSG.

Kate Hudson Reaches Billboard’s Charts With Debut Album ‘Glorious’

Kate Hudson has already achieved numerous accolades in her career, including an Academy Award nomination for her role as Penny Lane in Almost Famous, but now she has something else to add to her résumé: Billboard-charting artist on her own.

Hudson’s debut studio album Glorious, released May 17 on HK Music/Virgin Records, debuts on each of the following charts this week (dated June 1):

  • Heatseekers Albums: No. 3
  • Top Album Sales: No. 10
  • Top Current Album Sales: No. 10
  • Vinyl Albums: No. 19
  • Independent Albums: No. 41

The 12-track set starts with 8,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in its opening week (May 17-23), according to Luminate. Of that sum, 7,000 were in album sales, with 2,000 in vinyl. Its first week totals were aided by its availability across five vinyl variants (including exclusive iterations for Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Target, as well as a signed edition in the artist’s webstore) and a promotional partnership with TalkShopLive.

The album also helps Hudson debut at No. 5 on the Emerging Artists chart.

Hudson teamed with Grammy Award-winner and Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee Linda Perry for much of the album, along with Johan Carlsson and Danny Fujikawa. The latter is Hudson’s fiancé and singer-guitarist in the band Chief. Carlsson was a member of the band Carolina Liar and has written and produced songs for Flo Rida, Ariana Grande, One Direction and Katy Perry, among others.

In a recent interview with Billboard, Hudson said that most of the set’s songs were written over a two-week period. “At one point, we wrote three songs in a day and Linda’s like, ‘I think we need to stop. I think we have two albums.’ We could have written forever.”

Hudson, who is managed by Sandbox Entertainment, signed with Virgin Music Group in February and released her first single under the deal, “Talk About Love,” Jan. 30.

Glorious earns Hudson her first solo entry on Billboard’s charts, following one collaborative hit. In September 2012, her role as dance teacher Cassandra July in the fourth season of Glee resulted in a Billboard chart placement following that season’s premiere episode. The Glee cast’s “Americano/Dance Again,” featuring Hudson, reached No. 25 on the Pop Digital Song Sales chart and No. 61 on Digital Song Sales. The song, in which Hudson performs in character, is a mashup of Lady Gaga’s “Americano” and Jennifer Lopez’s “Dance Again,” featuring Pitbull.

Along with Almost Famous, Hudson has also starred in box office hits including Bride Wars, Glass Onion and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.

Metro Boomin Jokingly Disses 21 Savage Over Drake Friendship

21 Savage is stuck playing mediator as a friend to both parties in the heated feud between Metro Boomin and Drake.

Savage was on Instagram Live over the weekend, when Metro continued to playfully troll him about his OVO ties and allegiance to his Her Loss collaborator.

The super producer jokingly jabbed at the Savage in the IG Live comment section while referring to him as “OVO Savage” and alleging that he “JUS KNOW [21 Savage] GOT A OWL TRAMP STAMP,” as noted by HipHopDX.

Savage then welcomed Metro into the IG Live session before giving him the boot. He even used Drake’s “Push Ups” diss against him in the process.

“Oh, you was talking s–t, b—h? Get off my Live,” 21 said. “I’m finna block this n—a. Metro, shut your ho- a– up and make some drums, n—a.”

Metro and Drake are still beefing and neither party has disclosed the source of their friction. Drake dissed him on the aforementioned “Push Ups” and dropped Metro Boomin’s government name (Leland Wayne) and called him “f—–g lame” on “Family Matters.”

Metro responded with the “BBL Drizzy” beat giveaway, and remixes to the AI-assisted instrumental have taken on a life of their own. Drake even rapped over the diss beat on Sexyy Red’s “U My Everything.”

Earlier in May, while fans flooded another 21 Savage IG Live, he fired back with his belief that Drake and Metro will eventually figure things out and become cool again.

“Don’t keep coming on to my motherf—–g Live talking about no motherf—–g beef. Metro my brother and Drake my brother. Those n—-s going to figure that s–t out eventually,” he said.

21 actually brought Drake out as a special guest at his Toronto concert on Monday night (May 27) as part of his American Dream Tour. They performed collabs like “Knife Talk” and “Rich Flex.” Savage then gave Drizzy his flowers before he left the stage.

“That’s a good n—a right there, a genuine n—a. We need more n—-s like him in the culture. On my momma, straight up,” 21 stated.

Will Billie Eilish Go Three for Three in Grammy Album of the Year Nods? These Artists Did

The early returns are excellent for Billie Eilish’s third album, Hit Me Hard and Soft. The album enters the Billboard 200 at No. 2 with 339,000 equivalent album units — Eilish’s largest week to date by units earned. Of that sum, 191,000 are traditional album sales — her best sales week yet.

Critical response has also been strong. The album has a solid 89 rating at Metacritic.com, the review aggregation site. That’s Eilish’s best mark to date. Her debut, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, posted a 82 rating. Her follow-up, Happier Than Ever, had a 86.

The question now is how well Hit Me Hard and Soft will do at the 67th annual Grammy Awards. When We All Fall Asleep dominated the awards in early 2020. Eilish became the first artist to sweep the Big Four awards – album, record and song of the year plus best new artist – since Christopher Cross in 1981. Her follow-up, Happier Than Ever, was likewise nominated for those Big Three awards, though she didn’t add to her Grammy collection that year.

With the strong early showing, it’s very possible Eilish could join the short roster of artists to receive album of the year nods with their first three releases.

Nominations for the 67th annual Grammy Awards will be announced on Nov. 8. Final-round voting runs from Dec. 12 to Jan. 3, 2025. The awards will be presented at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Feb. 2, 2025.

Here are artists who were nominated for album of the year with their first three releases. Because release patterns were so different in the early years of the Grammys, we’re also including artists who were nominated for album of the year the first three years they were eligible.

The years shown are the years of the Grammy ceremony.

Cardi B Defends Adult Content After Candace Owens Calls for Ban: ‘Is It That Bad for Y’all?’

Cardi B has taken a stance on the debate surrounding adult content after Candace Owens took to X to call for a ban.

“Ban pornography. It is a psychological weapon intended to weaken our men,” the conservative political commentator wrote on the platform earlier this month. In response, Cardi B shared an Instagram comment in defense of porn, as seen in a screenshot shared by TMZ. “Ommmggg why yall so against porn ? Is it that bad for yall?” she wrote. “I enjoy it but I don’t know I guess is like a 6 time a year thing. I personally don’t feel no connection or addiction to it just a little quick one two … NOTHING LIKE REAL INTIMACY!”

She continued that adult content should “actually teach men how to please a woman.”

Cardi is the latest star to chime in on the topic of NSFW content and sites. In April, Ye (the artist formerly known as Kanye West) deleted his X account after he appeared to receive a wave of backlash for announcing his own adult content website. The rapper tweeted a six second video with the phrase “Yeezy Porn Is Cumming,” directing viewers to “go to yeezy.com.” According to TMZ, Ye is planning to build an adult content studio under his Yeezy brand, and is in contact with Stormy Daniels’ ex-husband Mike Moz to discuss leading the project. Following the announcement, the Vultures artist received an onslaught of criticism from fans, who urged him to “return to Christ” following his Jesus Is King era.

Trending on Billboard

West has expressed varying opinions on porn throughout the years. In 2018, after telling Jimmy Kimmel that he “still looks at PornHub,” the platform offered the star a lifetime of free premium membership on their site. He later admitted to a “full-on pornography addiction” that “destroyed my family.”
