Tina Knowles Reveals Beyoncé Was Bullied As a Child: ‘She Was Very Shy’

Beyoncé may run the world now, but Tina Knowles has revealed that her daughter experienced her fair share of bullies back when the superstar was young.

In a video interview with Vogue posted Sunday (May 26), the businesswoman opened up about raising her daughters to embrace their individuality — no matter who tried to break their souls. “Beyoncé, she was very shy,” she shared. “She got bullied a bit.”

“The day that she stood up for someone … she didn’t stand up for herself, she stood up for them,” Knowles added. “I’m getting emotional talking about it. I couldn’t have been more proud of her.”

She went on to share that her youngest daughter, Grammy-winning musician Solange, has “always been an activist” and often went around asking people to sign petitions. As for Bey’s best friend and former Destiny’s Child bandmate Kelly Rowland, Knowles remembers the Mea Culpa star as being a “little peacemaker” when she was young.

“Kelly was always this kid that tried to protect everybody,” she continued.

Sharing the clip on her personal account, Knowles wrote, “Each child is different!”

“But all so special,” she added. “I believe kids are born with their personalities. My three girls All handled things very differently. Learn their personalities and respect the individuality.”

Bey is now a mom herself, with Ms. Tina taking on the role of grandmother to 12-year-old Blue Ivy and 6-year-old twins Rumi and Sir, whom the “Texas Hold ‘Em” singer shares with Jay-Z. That means the vocalist is imparting onto her own children the same lessons she previously learned from Knowles, including the importance of blocking out the haters and focusing on one’s craft.

For instance, Knowles recently revealed that Bey had some wise words for Blue after her dancing at the Renaissance Tour received negative comments. “It was a great life lesson because her mom basically said, ‘Listen, if you let this get you down, then they won,” she recalled. “So you should go and work harder. And, you know, just work harder and get your skills together and go out there and blast it.’”

Zach Bryan, “Pink Skies”

The prolific Bryan is known for releasing music sporadically, with little-to-no leadup to an album in terms of promotional singles (think his previous self-titled LP and its Billboard Hot 100-topping Kacey Musgraves collab “I Remember Everything,” released for the first time as part of the album). But as he releases his new song, “Pink Skies,” stadium-headliner Bryan noted on social media that he’s set to soon release a new project, The Great American Bar Scene.

The harmonica-dipped, acoustic guitar-driven track — which Bryan previously previewed on social media under the title “Elegy”– describes preparing for a funeral, but in true Bryan fashion, infuses his melancholia-hued lyrics with stately percussion, lifting the somber track to crowd singalong status. A collection of memories tie together as Bryan sings to the departed familial patriarch on lyrics like, “You’d be proud/ But you’d think they’s yuppies/ Your funeral was beautiful/ I bet God heard you coming.” The new song seems poised to become another fan-favorite, cementing Bryan’s current ranking as a top-tier purveyor of conversational, poetic heartland rock.

Jamey Johnson, “21 Guns”

Jamey Johnson releases his first new music in nearly a decade, turning his potent songwriting talent and burnished voice to paying homage to military members who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Johnson wrote the song with Jim “Moose” Brown, inspired by the funerals that Johnson (who served in the U.S. Marines for nearly a decade) has attended for many of his fellow servicemembers whose lives were cut short. The song depicts attending a service for a fallen comrade, as the preacher gives the eulogy and the serviceman is given a customary 21 gun salute, before Johnson goes directly for heart-crushing truths on the line “The rifles fire and your life flashes right before my eyes,” adding, “I don’t need no one to tell me you’re a hero/ Hell I’ve known that ever since you were young.”

Johnson, one of the top songwriters of this generation, won two CMA song of the year honors for crafting “Give It Away” and “In Color.” Here, he offers his masterful songwriting pen and world-weary vocal in service to the memory of his fellow service members, speaking truth with a grizzled grace.

Midland, “Old Fashioned Feeling”

The Texas-formed trio returns with their first new music since 2022 with this sumptuous slow-burn they recorded at Savannah, Georgia’s Georgia Mae Studios, with Dave Cobb producing. Lead singer Mark Wystrach depicts coping with the last embers of a burned-out relationship by turning to a dim-lit bar, a stiff drink, and a cavalcade of memories. The track is brimming with old-school, soulful country sounds, and spearheaded by the trio’s harmonies, which are as smooth and warm as any top-shelf bourbon.

49 Winchester, “Fast Asleep”

Sextet 49 Winchester dusts off one of the group’s earliest songs and revitalizes it with help from the Prague-based Czech National Symphony Orchestra. The song launches with pared-back instrumentation, featuring little more than acoustic guitar and lead singer Isaac Gibson’s plaintive vocal, depicting the struggle and resolution of romantic ties, before the rest of the group and the orchestra joins in on the choruses, with the orchestra lending further heft to the band’s alright exemplary musicianship. The song is featured on the group’s upcoming album Leavin’ This Holler, out Aug. 2, via New West Records.

Shaylen, “Let Me Let You”

This Chattanooga, Tennessee-born, Dallas-raised singer-songwriter deftly blends elements of country, soul and punk on this new track. Shaylen wrote this track with Brett Tyler and Lindsay Rimes, pouring out the angst of someone who’s trying to pick up the pieces of a shattered relationship and transition to a new life chapter, only to find her ex keeps showing up at her door. “When it’s 2 a.m. missing me again/ Why you gotta let me know?” she sings. Shaylen’s strong, confident vocal inhabits a punk edge and ripples over polished country-pop construction of careening rock guitar, eruptive percussion and a chorus tailor-made to get audiences chanting along.

Post Malone & Morgan Wallen Hold Atop Billboard Hot 100, Billie Eilish Debuts in Top Five

Post Malone’s “I Had Some Help,” featuring Morgan Wallen, spends a second week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart. The song soared in at the summit a week earlier, becoming Post Malone’s sixth leader and Wallen’s second.

Notably, while “I Had Some Help” is the 27th hit to have topped both the Hot 100 and the Hot Country Songs chart, which shares the former’s multimetric methodology, it’s just the second to have debuted atop both tallies and logged its first two weeks on each at No. 1. It joins Oliver Anthony Music’s “Rich Men North of Richmond,” which led in its first two weeks on each list last August-September.

Meanwhile, Billie Eilish bounds onto the Hot 100 at No. 5 with “Lunch.” The song is her sixth top 10 – and highest debut. It’s from her new album Hit Me Hard and Soft, which opens at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart.

The Hot 100 blends all-genre U.S. streaming (official audio and official video), radio airplay and sales data, the lattermost metric reflecting purchases of physical singles and digital tracks from full-service digital music retailers; digital singles sales from direct-to-consumer (D2C) sites are excluded from chart calculations. All charts (dated June 1, 2024) will update on Billboard.com tomorrow, May 29, a day later than usual due to the Memorial Day holiday in the U.S. May 27. Below is a rundown of the latest Hot 100’s top 10.

Elvis Presley’s 37 Biggest Hits, From ‘Hound Dog’ to ‘Suspicious Minds’

Elvis Presley is one of history’s most successful artists by Billboard Hot 100 standards, even if you don’t take into account the numerous hits he had before the chart’s inception in 1958. There’s a reason why they call him The King.

In fact, with seven Hot 100 No. 1s and 25 top 10 smashes overall, the late legend is one of very few artists to ever have more than 100 songs enter the chart — an elite group otherwise dominated by modern musicians like Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Kanye West and Drake. He was also the first-ever act to hit the triple-digit milestone, doing so in 1975, two years before his death.

But a survey of the Memphis legend’s biggest hits wouldn’t be complete without including the tracks he made famous before the Hot 100’s advent, some of which are the most iconic songs of his career. Just factoring in the numbers he accumulated on antiquated rankings, such as the retired Top 100 or disc jockey, juke box and sales charts, brings his total No. 1 count up to 17.

If his quirky persona, bedazzled jumpsuits and once-controversial dance moves don’t continue to live on in infamy for decades to come, then Presley’s buttery voice and soulful, classic rock-pioneering music certainly will. Keep reading to see Elvis’ top 37 hits of all time — on the Hot 100 or otherwise — from “Are You Lonesome To-night?” to “Suspicious Minds,” below.

Songs are ranked by peak position on the Billboard Hot 100 and predecessor charts the Top 100 and charts ranking disc jockey play, juke box play and sales. Ties are broken by weeks at peak position, followed by weeks on chart, with titles that hit the Hot 100 ranked above those on predecessor charts-only; for pre-Hot 100 hits, ties are broken, beyond as noted above, by number of charts on which songs peaked for total weeks cited. Peak dates reflect songs’ first week at No. 1 on any of the aforementioned charts.

Coldplay Make ‘Magic’ With Surprise Guest Sabrina Carpenter at BBC Big Weekend Gig

Coldplay had a special surprise in store for fans on Sunday (May 26) during their headlining set closing out BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend Festival. While preparing to perform the Ghost Stories favorite “Magic,” singer Chris Martin alluded to the fact that his band has been a staple of the event for the past decade.

“We’ve been playing this, one Big Weekend since we were basically children,” Martin said. “And the reason we play one Big Weekend is because without Radio 1, we would never have kept our jobs.” Then, the singer self-deprecatingly introduced one of the festival’s other performers, Sabrina Carpenter, telling the crowd, “What we’d like to do, to say thank you to you for being so wonderful for the whole three days is bring on a singer who’s much younger, more beautiful, more successful, better in every way, and sing a song of ours that is okay but make it really good.”

With the crowd properly hyped, Martin added, “Welcome, from America, U.S.A., Sabrina Carpenter, let’s go!” Carpenter seemed as jazzed as the audience, responding, “Give it up for Coldplay! What the hell?”

Trending on Billboard

The band — who have frequently invited guest stars up to join them during the epic two-year Music of the Spheres road trip — leaned into the song’s spare intro, as Martin and Carpenter harmonized, “Call it magic/ Call it true/ I call it magic/ When I’m with you,” while a graphic of a man trapped inside a top hat struggling to hold on to a woman blowing away from him screened behind them.

It wasn’t the only time during the Coldplay set that the 25-year-old singer/actress made her way into their repertoire. While playing their beloved ballad “Fix You,” a few songs earlier, Martin playfully slipped in a shot of Carpenter’s hit “Espresso” into the song to the crowd’s delight, as he sang, “That’s that me, espresso.”

'Black Ops 6' Coming To Xbox Game Pass, New Trailer Arrives

Source: Activision / Treyarch / Raven Software / Call of Duty: Black Ops 6

The Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 rollout did not start smoothly, but Xbox hopes to keep the landing when the game releases later this year.
Microsoft is having one hell of a year, and this latest booboo is just another moment that Phil Spencer is probably sitting in his gaming chair with his hand on his forehead.

Spotted by The Verge’s Tom Warren, the company that now owns Activision and the COD franchise accidentally revealed the worst-kept secret: the next installment, Black Ops 6, will be on Xbox Game Pass, with a link to a dead Xbox News Wire post.

Whoever accidentally hit send on that push notification is in big trouble because the accidental reveal came before today’s teaser trailer reveal and the official announcement from Xbox, confirming what we all knew was going to happen with Call of Duty games.

There Are Some Famous Faces In The Black Ops 6 Teaser Trailer

The teaser trailer doesn’t show any gameplay—Xbox is definitely saving that for the big June 6 showing at the upcoming Xbox Showcase in Los Angeles— but it didn’t have plenty of famous faces in it.

In typical Black Ops fashion, the trailer features past world leaders like former US President Bill Clinton and the late Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, allegedly the main antagonist of Black Ops 6.

This isn’t the first time a Black Ops game has featured a prominent political figure; John F. Kennedy was in the first game, and notorious Presidental Op Ronald Reagan was in Black Ops Cold War.

Per Sports Keeda, Black Ops 6 will allegedly center around the Gulf War and will continue to revolve around the franchise’s main protagonists, Frank Woods, Alex Mason, Jason Hudson, and Russell Adler.

We will find out soon enough.

The trailer below shows more reactions to Black Ops 6 coming to Xbox Game Pass.

1. Gamers are happy

2. Xbox fans finally got something to celebrate about

3. Will this really shift the COD player base?

6. Salute to this guy

The Spectacular Awaits campaign holds a special place in Fat Joe’s heart, as it resonates with his personal life. His son Joey, a tennis enthusiast, has been a source of inspiration for the Bronx MC. Last year, Joe celebrated Joey’s birthday and shared playful pictures of them with oversized tennis balls. Joey, who is 33 and lives with autism, has been a focal point of the musician’s efforts to raise awareness about the condition, notably in his 2023 memoir The Book of Jose.

“He inspires me. He’s such a blessing in our life. He’s almost like an angel,” Fat Joe said last year during an episode of The View. “It’s the gift that keeps giving, little Joey, and I’m so proud of him.”

The U.S. Open’s main draw will begin on Monday, Aug. 26, and conclude with the Women’s Singles Final on Saturday, Sept. 7, and the Men’s Singles Final on Sunday, Sept. 8. Tickets for the 2024 U.S. Open go on sale on June 3.

Beyoncé & Big Freedia Sued For Infringement Over “Break My Soul”

Beyoncé and Big Freedia are the subject of a new lawsuit. A group claims the two lifted elements from their project for “Break My Soul”.

As reported by Digital Music News a four person music collective feels that their work has been infringed upon by Beyoncé. Back in 2002 Da Showstoppaz recorded a single titled “Release A Wiggle” as per a suggestion from one of their colleagues. Surprisingly the song started to pick up traction in their local neighborhood in New Orleans and the group started to perform shows. The group would dissolve in 2004 after Hurricane Katrina ravished the city.

“Break My Soul” features some words from Big Freedia where she says “Release ya wiggle” multiple times on the outro. This single also samples Big Freedia’s 2014 track “Explode” where the Bounce Music pioneer says “Release ya wiggle” throughout the chorus. According to the filing submitted on behalf the group both works infringe on their break out song. “‘Explode’ infringes on Da Showstoppaz’ ‘Release A Wiggle’ twelve times,” the document reads. “As the infringing phrase ‘release yo’ wiggle’ and several other substantially similar phrases are featured prominently in the song. Any reasonable person listening to ‘Release A Wiggle’ and ‘Explode’ would conclude that the songs are substantially similar.”

Neither Beyoncé or Big Freedia have yet to publicly address the matter. You can listen to “Explode” and Da Showstoppaz “Release A Wiggle” and compare below.

Indictees Unite: Rapper Sheff G Joins Donald Trump At Bronx Rally

Former President Donald Trump was joined onstage at his rally in the Bronx by Sheff G, who has been indicted on charges of alleged murder.

On Thursday night (May 23), Crotona Park in the South Bronx was the scene for a campaign rally for presumptive Republican Party presidential nominee Donald Trump, whose speech contained commentary about the crime and “decline” of New York City. This made it all the more surprising when he was joined on stage by two drill rappers indicted on multiple charges including murder and attempted murder in Sheff G and Sleepy Hallow. Sheff G is out on bail after posting a $1.5 million bond. Trump briefly passed the microphone over to them so they could address the crowd.

“One thing I want to say, they’re always going to whisper your accomplishments and shout your failures. Trump’s gonna shout the wins for all of us,” Sheff G said to those gathered. Sleepy Hallow yelled out Trump’s slogan, “Make America Great Again!” as both rappers left the stage. “I like those teeth,” Trump remarked as they walked away. “I gotta get my teeth like that.”  Sheff G and Sleepy Hallow appeared a little over a year to the day that both were arrested in a sweeping raid by the New York Police Department as part of a 32-person, 140-count indictment. Both rappers were identified as part of the 8 Trey Crips and 9 Ways gangs, with Sheff G aka Michael Williams being explicitly named as one who ordered a hit resulting in one dead and five injured. Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez also said at the time that Sheff G used some of the proceeds from his music to “help facilitate further gang activity,” but stated that his lyrics were not a major factor in the charges.

Trump’s rally in the solidly Democratic neighborhood of the Bronx was regarded by observers as a play to siphon off Black and Latino voters who dominate the area. It comes as Trump – who currently has almost 90 indictments against him – is on trial in New York City for alleged criminal behavior involving “hush money” paid to adult star Stormy Daniels.  A representative for the Trump campaign claimed that the rally drew 25,000, which has not been verified. That assessment comes in contrast to local reporting done by ABC 7 Eyewitness News, whose team got an overhead shot showing the sparseness of the crowd.
