Joe Jonas Asked For Jonas Brothers’ ‘Blessings’ To Make Upcoming Solo Album

The big reveal came during his appearance on Jake Shane’s Therapuss, where he shared details about his upcoming solo album.

During the chat, Joe revealed that “Work It Out” was initially meant for a Jonas Brothers album, but he had felt a stronger personal connection to the track.

Trending on Billboard

“I was listening to it, and I was like, ‘Damn, I really like this song,’ and starting to feel like I don’t know why, but I want this song for myself — not just the Brothers — and I also feel like it’s not DNCE, which is another band I’m in,” Joe explained.

Determined to follow his instincts, Joe sought his brothers’ approval.

“I asked my brothers’ blessings, and I was like, hey, I wanna go work on — I don’t wanna call it solo, but I want to go do something on my own, and I don’t feel like it’s DNCE, and I need to go just express some stuff for myself. And they’re like, ‘Go for it.’ Nick booked a movie. Kevin was going to do another season of Claim To Fame, and so I had a window of time, and I locked myself away.”

The result of that locked-away period is a deeply personal album crafted in just two to three weeks. Joe collaborated with an impressive lineup of artists, including Alexander 23, Muna’s Josette Maskin, Jason Evigan, Tommy English, and Paris Carney. Reflecting on the experience, Joe described it as “the most personal music I’ve ever put out.”

Excited to share his new music, Joe took to Instagram, posting a video of a serene mountain and lake landscape.

“I’m both excited and emotional as I’m gearing up to release new music,” he wrote.

“I’m humbled and grateful to collaborate with some of my favorite musicians and creators. I hope you find as much happiness and peace as I do when you listen to these songs.”

Hints of Joe’s return to his solo musical endeavors first appeared in March when he posted a clip with the caption, “The way I would’ve bodied this trend if I weren’t in the studio working on something new.”

A day later, he teased a 13-second video of his collaborators playing guitar in the recording studio.

Joe’s solo journey is a major departure from his work with the Jonas Brothers and DNCE.

The journey begins with “Work It Out,” co-written with Blush and Evigan. Joe gave fans a taste of the song’s inspiring chorus on Therapuss, singing, “Get up, get up, get up, get up / What are you whining about? / No, nobody’s gonna save you now / No, nobody’s gonna pull you out / Brush your shoulders off.”

It’s been 13 years since he released his solo album, Fast Life, which featured the Chris Brown-penned “See No More”, which peaked at No. 92 on the Billboard Hot 100, and the LP peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard 200.

Though he hasn’t announced an exact release date for the album, Joe mentioned it would be out “later this year,” with more tracks set to drop before the full release.

Eminem, Big Sean & BabyTron Put On For Detroit In “Tobey” Video

HipHopWired Featured Video

Live from Detroit: The Concert at Michigan Central

Eminem has been very clear about his devotion to Detroit and has always paid homage to the city where he began his career as a battle rapper. Now a seasoned veteran, Eminem enlisted the services of Detroit’s younger generation of artists Big Sean and BabyTron to join him on the track “Tobey” and also appeared in a video with (the former?) Slim Shady.

The track “Tobey” is the second single from the upcoming The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), the 12th studio project from Eminem that drops Friday (July 12). Produced by Em, Cole Bennett, Car!ton, Daniyel, Marvy Ayy, and John Nocito, “Tobey” opens with a verse from BabyTron who delivers a strong verse followed by the pyrotechnics of Big Sean before both yield the anchor verse to Eminem.

Congressman Rips Media For Ignoring Trump’s Name In Epstein Docs

HipHopWired Featured Video

Democratic Caucus Members Speak To The Press Following Their Weekly Meeting

A congressman called out the media for not reporting Donald Trump’s repeated presence in new documents related to a Jeffrey Epstein case in Florida.

Democrats in the House of Representatives held a meeting on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. on Tuesday (July 9), to talk about President Joe Biden’s candidacy for reelection. But one lawmaker voiced his frustration with the media’s constant focus on the situation and its avoidance of discussing new information concerning former President Donald Trump’s name being repeatedly featured in a new batch of documents related to a Florida case against Jeffrey Epstein.

“We hear a lot from our constituents on different issues,” Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) said to those reporters gathered at the press conference. “But something I’ve heard that doesn’t seem to be being covered are the Epstein files.”

“Donald Trump’s all over this,” the vice president of the House Democrat Caucus continued. “There are pictures of him with Jeffrey Epstein, he’s taken multiple plane flights with Jeffrey Epstein with young girls onboard. He’s on call logs with Epstein. One of the most trending hashtags on Twitter right now is about Trump and Epstein, I’m not going to repeat the hashtag because we’re in a dignified setting.”

The hashtag that the California congressman referred to is known as the #TrumpPedoFiles. “And by the way, he was convicted in a civil court for sexual assault and convicted in a state court for 34 felonies. Donald Trump should drop out of the race,” Lieu concluded.

Donald Trump’s name does appear on the call logs between 2004 and 2006 in the recent batch of documents ordered to be released last week. “Former Miami U.S. attorney Alexander Acosta, who later became Donald Trump’s labor secretary, approved a secret agreement in which Epstein pleaded guilty to lesser state charges rather than face federal prosecution,” said a report from the Washington Post.

His words were part of a tense back-and-forth that has sprung up as President Biden is facing the brunt of numerous calls for him to drop out of the running to be the Democratic candidate for the November presidential elections. The demand comes after his lackluster performance in the debate held by CNN on June 27. But Biden has been defiant since then, declaring that he was staying in the race. Meanwhile, Donald Trump was noticeably absent from the public eye until a campaign rally on Tuesday night in Doral, Fla.

Eminem & White Castle Connect For New “White Rapper” Merchandise

HipHopWired Featured Video

Michigan Central Station Opening Celebration

Is Eminem strapped for cash?? We truly doubt it as the man has moved millions of records throughout his illustrious career. But when we heard he was collaborating with White Castle to move some new merchandise we were shocked and couldn’t help but wonder if this was a quick money grab endorsement for the GOAT white rapper.

The truth is Eminem has a brand new album titled The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) releasing this Friday (July 12). And to hype up his 11th studio album (12 if you count his very first project, Infinite), Eminem and White Castle have teamed up to release some exclusive tees and trucker hats that are sure to be a hit amongst his day-one fans.

Featuring the White Castle logo and colorway, the tees and hats are branded with the terms “White Rapper” (LOL) and the tagline “Buy ‘em by the ‘Sack.’”

Adding another nod to the iconic rapper, the back of the tee reads, “Established In 1972,” which happens to be the year that Marshall Bruce Mathers III (Eminem) was born. White Castle itself was established in 1921.

>While we’re not hating on the Eminem x White Castle collaboration, we’re low-key surprised Em didn’t take the opportunity to do such a collaboration with his restaurant, Mom’s Spaghetti. Sure, some people say the food is atrocious and the restaurant itself should probably be shut down, but Lord knows it could use the kind of promotion and marketing that only Slim Shady himself can provide. Just sayin’.

Nike Air Foamposite One X Tekken 8

Ages ago the Nike Air Foamposite One was easily one of the most popular silhouettes out on these mean streets and though these days many sneakerheads ignore them for Jordans, Dunks, and even Crocs, Nike seems ready to try to reestablish the hype behind its late 90’s gem going forward.

With OG sneakerheads patiently waiting for the re-release of the classic “Galaxy” Air Foamposites next year, Nike has decided to make a new iteration of their timeless creation which also pays homage to a hugely popular video game franchise that also blew up in the mid-90’s.

According to Hypebeast, Nike will be introducing the “Tekken 8” Air Foamposite One sometime in the future, and truth be told, we’re lowkey feeling this colorway and design. Similar to the colorway of the classic “Eggplant” Foamposites, the “Tekken 8” boasts some pretty cool details that will make them stand out amongst the rest and is sure to be a hit amongst video game enthusiasts and sneakerheads alike.

Per Hypebeast:

An iridescent shell kicks off the look, with a thematic print covering the shiny finish. From there, black arrives at the leather eyestays, laces and tongue. Special Tekken motifs enter the mix at the tongue and sockliner branding, while a red “FIST” graphic adorns the icy translucent outsole. That’s not all — a special box featuring the game’s cover art of Kazuya Mishima and Jin Kazama is included too.

At the time of writing, Nike has not confirmed when this Tekken 8-themed take on the Air Foamposite One will be releasing. Stay tuned for updates as we currently expect it to arrive this September via Nike SNKRS and select retailers at a starting price of $250 USD.

The box itself may be enough to get heads to line up for these, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Democrat Senators Call For Criminal Probe of Clarence Thomas

HipHopWired Featured Video

US-JUSTICE-SUPREME-COURT-GROUP-PHOTO

Two Democratic lawmakers requested that Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas be criminally investigated for ethics and tax law violations.

According to reports, Senators Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island and Ron Wyden of Oregon sent a letter to  Attorney General Merrick Garland formally requesting that he appoint a special counsel to criminally investigate Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas for his failure to disclose lavish gifts from wealthy friends who happen to be donors to Republican-backed causes.

“We do not make this request lightly,” the senators wrote in their letter, dated July 3. “Supreme Court justices are properly expected to obey laws designed to prevent conflicts of interest and the appearance of impropriety and to comply with the federal tax code.”

They specifically asked that the special counsel look into whether Justice Thomas violated federal ethics and tax laws by failing to reveal as income that he received a luxury recreational vehicle with a forgiven debt of $267,000. A representative for Justice Thomas didn’t respond to press inquiries.

The letter goes on to state that Thomas had “repeated opportunities” to explain why he didn’t disclose these gifts to the Senate Finance Committee and the Senate Judiciary Committee’s panel overseeing federal courts which Wyden and Whitehouse chair, respectively. Thomas’ actions demonstrate a “willful pattern of disregard for ethics laws,” and they added,

“No government official should be above the law.”

The letter’s publication comes after Justice Thomas was revealed in January to have received substantial gifts from donors such as Harlan Crow in the past such as premium tickets to sporting events and luxury vacations. Thomas’ attorney, , wrote that his client’s earlier disclosure to the committees “fully complied with all judicial disclosure rules on this matter.” Thomas has also come under fire due to his wife, Ginni Thomas’ involvement in efforts to help overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in Arizona for Donald Trump.

The request also comes as Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez filed a motion to impeach Justice Thomas and Justice Samuel Alito on Wednesday (July 11). In her statement, the New York congresswoman wrote that both men’s refusal to recuse themselves from cases “in which they hold widely documented financial and personal entanglements” has led to an “unchecked corruption crisis on the Supreme Court.”

Ex-Red Hot Chili Peppers Guitarist Josh Klinghoffer Faces Wrongful Death Lawsuit Over Car Incident

Josh Klinghoffer, a former guitarist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, is facing a wrongful death lawsuit over allegations that he struck and killed a pedestrian near Los Angeles earlier this year due to “distracted driving.”

Filed in Los Angeles court Wednesday (July 10), the case claims that Klinghoffer was driving a black 2022 GMC Yukon with no license plates on March 18 in Alhambra, Calif., when he took a left turn and struck 47-year-old Israel Sanchez in a crosswalk. Sanchez later died of his injuries.

“Video of the incident shows that defendant Josh Adam Klinghoffer made no braking or slowing motion until after he fatally struck Israel Sanchez, indicating that defendant was likely driving while distracted,” lawyers for the victim’s daughter, Ashley, write in the complaint, obtained by Billboard. “This horrible outcome was foreseeable and demonstrates a willful disregard for the rights and safety of others.”

Trending on Billboard

Sanchez’s lawyers claim they have video evidence that shows that Klinghoffer was “using a device mere seconds before he crashed” into Sanchez.

The lawsuit claims that Klinghoffer was not arrested after the incident, left for a tour with his band, and has never reached out to Sanchez’s family: “He has shown no remorse for his behavior.”

In a statement to Billboard, Klinghoffer’s attorney Andrew Brettler said: “This was a tragic accident. After which, Josh immediately pulled over, stopped the vehicle, called 911, and waited until police and the ambulance arrived. He is fully cooperating with the traffic investigation.”

After serving as a touring guitarist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers in the late 2000s, Klinghoffer joined the band as a full-time member in 2010 to replace longtime guitarist John Frusciante. But in 2019, after performing on two studio albums, he was fired by his bandmates after Frusciante chose to return to the group. He later served as a touring musician for Pearl Jam and has released solo material under the pseudonym Pluralone.

In technical terms, the lawsuit accuses Klinghoffer of wrongful death and negligence — meaning that he allegedly knew that what he was doing was dangerous but did it anyway.

“Klinghoffer … was more focused on his personal business than on acting as a responsible driver,” the lawsuit says. “These decisions culminated in the motor vehicle, inflicting fatal injuries on decedent, who
died a horrific and excruciating death.”

The complaint does not specify how much the family is seeking in monetary damages.
