City Girls Explain Why They Wanted to Work With Kim Petras on New Album & More | Billboard News

City Girls stopped by Billboard News and opened up about their new album, RAW, working with Kim Petras, their relationships with Diddy and Lil Uzi Vert, their support for the transgender community and more!

Catrise J:
People were talking about it, talking about you’re in the Illuminati. How do you … what do you say to people that say that to you?

JT:
I don’t even, girl … the Illuminati, call me!

What’s up? It’s the City Girls and you’re watching Billboard News. Period.

Catrise J:
Hi, everyone. It’s your girl, Catrise J, with Billboard News, and we have the City Girls! Welcome!

Yung Miami:
Hello.

Catrise J:
So I want to start with the new album, which I’m very excited about. Your first single on the record is with Kim Petras called “Flashy.” What made you want to work with Kim Petras?

JT:
We were looking for somebody who was going to sound good on the record. And Kim Petras, I think that she’s dope and she sounds great.

Catrise J:
What’s your favorite songs off the album?

JT:
My favorite songs change every day. If I could pick my favorite song today, it would be “Work for It.”

Catrise J:
Hmm … Why is it that song?

JT:
I like the beat because it’s like a sample of one of my favorite songs. I think that’s why I’m so in love with “Work for It” because they remind me of nostalgia and my childhood.

Catrise J:
Also, you mentioned earlier we were talking “F–k the D to the A” — that’s an older song. So are some of the songs a mixture of newer songs, older songs that you, like, recorded, never released, or …?

JT:
“F–k the D to the A” is the second song we ever recorded. It’s like raw and authentic, just like the name of the project. Like, our day one fans always ask for it to be on streaming, so it’s like a surprise to them. It’s like a gift to our day ones.

Catrise J:
That’s exciting. That’s quite a gift.

Tetris Kelly
What a way to wake up. Mariah season is here and she pranked Jimmy Kimmel and stopped by his show to give an interview with all the Mimi we needed.

Tetris Kelly
In the most Mariah Carey way possible, the superstar woke up Jimmy Kimmel at 2 a.m. in his home to declare it’s time for Christmas season. And now that it’s time to play her 19th No. 1 on repeat that she cared that The Beatles just put out a new song that could add to their 20 No. 1s,

Tetris Kelly
And her kids will be joining her on her Christmas tour. But will they be getting paid?

Tetris Kelly
Actually, now I need to call Mariah. Gotta love a moneymaking opportunity, Ms. Carey.

Lil Mabu & Chrisean Rock Are No. 1 on TikTok Billboard Top 50 | Billboard News

After three weeks at No. 1 on the TikTok Billboard Top 50, Mitski’s “My Love Mine All Mine” relents the No. 1 spot to Lil Mabu and Chrisean Rock’s “Mr. Take Ya B-tch.”

Tetris Kelly:
Half the TikTok top 10 are newbies this week and we’ve got a new No. 1.

Lil Mabu and Chrisean Rock’s “Mr. Take Ya B-tch” dethrones Mitski to take the top spot on the TikTok Billboard Top 50 for the chart posting Nov. 2. “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” makes a resurgence landing in No. 6, joining “This Wish” thanks to Disney Animation’s 100-year anniversary. Bad Bunny is used to ruling the charts — his track “Monaco” leaps from No. 50 all the way up to No. 7 thanks to fans using it for any kind of TikTok.

Blueface’s other baby mama, Jaidyn Alexis, breaks into the top 10 at No. 8 with “Barbie” after spending two weeks at No. 18. And rounding out the top 10 is Drake’s “Rich Baby Daddy” in large part because of Sexyy Red’s chorus.

Every Thursday, Billboard will bring you the verified list of the hottest songs on TikTok by monitoring music discovery and engagement on the platform in the United States. To find the TikTok Billboard Top 50 each week, users can simply go to any sound detail page and tap the top right button to access the chart’s page.

Billboard Explains: The Revamped 2023 Billboard Music Awards

Billboard Explains how the Billboard Music Awards are being reimagined with a new concept, what makes the BBMAs different from other awards shows, how fans can get involved and more.

Alyssa Caverly
The Billboard Music Awards. The show that recognizes artists who have topped the Billboard charts. This year the big event is being reimagined with a new concept, giving fans unprecedented access to their favorite artists. But what are the BBMAs? What will be different about this year show? And how can fans get involved? This is Billboard Explains the revamped 2023 Billboard Music Awards. The BBMAs has had been around since 1990. Honoring music’s biggest stars. Drake, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber and The Weeknd are just some of the notable past winners, with Drake taking home the most awards, a whopping 34. But what makes the BBMAs unique to other award shows? Simple: it’s all data driven, winners are chosen solely based on how well they perform on the Billboard charts. The BBMAs track album and digital song sales, radio airplay, as well as streaming and social engagement to choose the winner of each category. During the show artists appear on the BBMA stage to accept their award or perform their latest chart-topping hit.

Alyssa Caverly
But what will be different this year? Everything. The Billboard Music Awards are set to deliver an entirely new award show concept. So how will it work? Instead of happening live in one place, the performances and award celebrations will take place at different locations across the globe and feel unique to each individual artist. This year’s BBMAs will also be bigger than ever. The BBMAs will unveil performances and winners across BBMAs and Billboard social channels. Or you can watch it all go down by tuning into bbmas.watch on Sunday, November 19. That’s right. No television. It’s all online. Billboards Chief Brand Officer Dana Droppo had this to say about the show. “More than any other medium music unites people all over the world. Now more than ever we are seeing that it transcends language, culture and location. Billboard is here to increase access to music for everyone.” So where did the fans come in? The Billboard Music Awards and Spotify have teamed up to find the most loyal fans, the ones who have listened to the most hours of music within the past year. These lucky fans will receive a golden ticket that allows them to attend the performance of their favorite artists that will stream during the 2023 Billboard Music Awards. Dick clark productions, who puts on the event, says that “This year’s show is an epic celebration of the fans who have propelled their favorites to the top of the Billboard charts to thank them. We are thrilled to work with Spotify and the artists themselves to offer their most loyal fans and experience they’ll never forget.” Make sure to tune into the 2023 Billboard Music Awards all day on Nov. 19.

Leila Cobo:

¿O no?

Sí, es una invitación a la novia. Bailemos otra vez. Es una invitación a… Estoy aquí, las invito a bailar otra vez. Son un apoyo de tantos años. Vamos a seguir disfrutando. Es básicamente el ángulo de esta canción.

Mariah Carey Defrosts Christmas, The Hottest Halloween Parties of 2023 & More | Billboard News

Another Halloween has come and gone. We are rounding up some of the best costumes that celebrities donned this year. The Halloween streets were lit with stars stopping by Billboard’s bash in LA, and Heidi Klum’s party brought out all the stars in New York. We take you inside both! The queen of Xmas, Mariah Carey, defrosted the holiday at the stroke of midnight on November 1st. And more!

Tetris Kelly

We’re looking at music’s best Halloween costumes and taking you into LA and New York’s hottest Halloween parties. We play five things with Feid. Look back at the release of ‘Spice World,’ and Mariah ushers in her season officially.

Tetris Kelly

Happy Hump Day, friends. I’m Tetris Kelly from Billboard News and it’s Wednesday, November 1st. I’m still recovering from all the Halloween festivities. If you didn’t catch all the amazing outfits, we’ve got you covered. The stars do it every year, and 2023 was no different. Here are some of the best costumes from some of your favorite artists. Cher was a popular costume choice for both Victoria Justice and Christina Aguilera, complete with a ‘Burlesque’ re-enactment. You all saw my costume yesterday, but my girl doubled the fun: Mariah Carey served two looks before the change of the season as Regina George and Jessica Rabbit. When it comes to serving face, the king and queen were Gwen Stefani as the Corpse Bride and Zayn as Voldemort. And Anitta and Marina Sena finished us with their Mileena and Katana costumes. Fat Joe was looking more like skinny Joe thanks to his Ozempic costume. Camila Cabello gave us Anne Hathaway realness with her ‘Princess Diaries’ outfit. Reneé Rapp embodied Justin Bieber onstage during her concert in Brooklyn. And if you can spot her, Janelle Monáe had the most insane chameleon costume this year.
