Karol G’s private plane had to make an emergency landing in LA after the pilot reported smoke in the cockpit. Happy Friday it’s Tetris and this is Billboard News for March 1st, finally a new month. Let’s kick off today’s show with some brand new music. After wondering where’s Cardi she bounced back with “Like What?” And the tracks will keep on coming in this show today.

But let’s take a break real quick to give you some news. Thank goodness she’s okay. Karol G’s private jet identifiable by its heart logo had taken off from Hollywood Burbank Airport Thursday evening with 16 people on board. According to the news reports the jets pilot reported smoke in the cockpit so the plane made an emergency landing at Van Nuys Airport in LA. Karol G is in the midst of her Latin America stadium tour.

Kanye and Kim are back in the news for disagreeing about the kid’s school he posted, “Kim take my kids out of Sierra Canyon now it’s a fake school for celebrities that are used by the system.” TMZ sources say Kim is upset at how this endangers the kids safety. Noting Kim wants these disputes settled privately something Kanye agreed to in the divorce settlement. And Miley has arrived with new music with Pharrell and is opening up to Apple Music about how he helped her after ‘Hannah Montana.’ She stated, “He was really the only one that I could kind of tell him what I really wanted. What I really wanted to make who I really wanted to be what I really wanted to do.” With Pharrell adding, “I just remember her being in a place where no one really understood what she was and I got it.”

You have a new EP out, ‘Hold the Fire.’ There’s something I’ve always liked about your music, is it’s always music with a message. So tell me a bit about the theme surrounding this EP and the inspiration when writing it.

Sure, the theme comes from, the basis is a dream that I had maybe about 10 years ago in my early 30s, as I was playing lots of shows and started out, you know, with my career and then had a family and lived in New York and moved to LA, but playing, really grinding and playing lots of shows a year, like maybe 200 shows a year in order to survive, you know, up until COVID. One of the themes that became relevant to me is: How do you still stay in love with music after you’ve beenplaying so many shows and playing those songs over and over again? And I went through a complicated relationship with the music because it’s like your dream when you’re a teenager, and then it becomes reality. And then it’s like your dream come true. And then you’re making music and there’s the art and there’s the business, then there’s like, it’s like a relationship, you know. This EP is called ‘Hold The Fire’ and it’s about stamina, as an artist, and it’s about how to not let … your fire go out. But at the same time, you know, if you still stoke your fire too much, you could burn everything up and you could burn up in your own fire. And I guess the idea in the opening track is called “Fireproof.”

Djo’s ‘End of Beginning’ Is the Latest TikTok Billboard Top 50 No. 1 | Billboard News

A week after scoring a splashy debut at No. 11 on the TikTok Billboard Top 50 chart, Djo’s “End of Beginning” vaults to No. 1, while Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em” and Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign’s “Carnival” land in the top 10.

A new leader and a bunch of fresh new faces — the TikTok Billboard Top 50 has been shaken up.

Djo’s “End of Beginning” claims the top spot, thanks to a trend where users show you how you know they’d won the lottery. Also in the top 10 of TikTok Billboard Top 50 for the chart posting Feb. 29 is the cast of Glee‘s “Rose’s Turn.”

Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em” climbs to No. 4, while Ye and Ty Dolly $ign’s “Carnival” lands at No. 5. Two more new entries in the top 10 include “Back It Up and Dump It” and Armando Trovajoli’s “L’amore Dice Ciao,” which debuts at No. 8 thanks to being the perfect track for cute videos.

Nigerian singer Tems has truly broken through to become a huge sensation, and Billboard‘s Women In Music is honoring the talented singer. She first charted on the Hot 100 in 2021 and has been shining ever since. This is Billboard Explains: Tems’ Breakthrough on the Charts.

Tems has enjoyed some big collaborations on the Hot 100, including “Essence” alongside Wizkid and Justin Bieber; it peaked at No. 9 in 2021. A year later, the singer held the No. 1 spot for one week with the song “Wait for U”; she was featured alongside Drake and Future’s hit.

Not only has she enjoyed success on the Hot 100, she has charted 15 songs on the Billboard U.S. Afrobeat Songs chart, including two No. 1s with “Essence” and “Free Mind” in 2022. With two EPs behind her, she’s poised to release her debut studio album in 2024.

Billboard’s Women In Music is honoring 2022 powerhouse Charli XCX. The singer first rose to fame in 2012 with some massive hits, and she’s continued her rise throughout the years. This is Billboard Explains the steady success of Charli XCX. Charli XCX has enjoyed some big hits on the Billboard Hot 100. She first burst on the Hot 100 in early 2013 with her hit “I Love It” alongside Icona Pop. It peaked at No. 7 in 2014. She had a big year with two Hot 100 hits: “Boom Clap,” which peaked at No. 8, and “Fancy” with Iggy Azalea, that song peaked at No. 1 and spent seven weeks at the top.

She has five albums on the Billboard 200 including her second studio album Sucker, which reached No. 28 and her most recent EP Crash became her first top 10 album in 2022, peaking at No. 7 in 2023. Her first Hot 100 hit since 2015 was “Speed Drive” from the Barbie soundtrack.

Diddy has been named in another shocking sexual assault case, and this time a male producer is suing the mogul for multiple forms of sexual misconduct. Producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones Jr. who says he worked on Sean Diddy Combs ‘The Love Album’ is accusing Combs of sexual assault and harassment, sex trafficking and more in a sprawling lawsuit filed February 26th. In the complaint, he accuses combs of groping and touching his anus and trying to groom him into engaging in sexual acts with Diddy and other individuals. He also claims that Combs forced him to solicit sex workers, some of whom were under age, as well as to perform sex acts to the pleasure of Mr. Combs the lawsuit even details and alleged studio shooting from 2022. In a statement sent to Billboard Combs’ attorney Shawn Holley said, “Lil Rod is nothing more than a liar who filed a $30 billion lawsuit shamelessly looking for an undeserved payday.” Jones lawsuit is just the latest in a string of legal accusations pointed that Diddy. In November Combs longtime girlfriend, R&B singer Cassie sued him for rape and physical abuse, though the case was promptly settled.

Jam Master Jay Murder Verdict: Jury Finds Two Men Guilty in Run-DMC Star’s 2002 Killing | Billboard News

A federal jury in Brooklyn on Tuesday (Feb. 27) found two New York City men guilty in the 2002 murder of Run-DMC‘s Jam Master Jay, setting the stage for potential decades-long prison sentences.

A jury has found two men guilty of murdering Run DMC’s Jam Master Jay more than 20 years after his death.

Jam Master Jay was murdered in Queens, New York back in 2002 and today after a three week trial Karl Jordan Jr. and Ronald Washington had been found guilty of murder. More than 30 witnesses testified and the jury came to the conclusion that the two men killed the rapper after he cut them out of a cocaine deal. Jordan and Washington each face a minimum sentence of 20 years in prison. They will be able to challenge the verdict first to the judge and then to a federal appeals court but such appeals face long odds, attorneys for both defendants and the prosecution did not immediately return requests for comment on the verdict.
