Rankings for the Top TV Songs chart are based on song and show data provided by Tunefind and ranked using a formula blending that data with sales and streaming information tracked by Luminate during the corresponding period of July 2024.
“Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” Lauper’s breakthrough hit (it peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in March 1984), was heard in the third episode of the Netflix series’ sixth season, which aired its first five episodes all together on July 18, with the next five to come in November.

“Girls Just Want to Have Fun” racked up 13.7 million official on-demand U.S. streams and 2,000 downloads in July 2024, according to Luminate.
The song is the sole entry from Cobra Kai on the July 2024 tally; it’s followed by a slew of titles from Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys and Peacock’s U.S. version of Love Island, which take up the remainder of the 10-position list.
Music from the fourth season of The Boys — particularly episodes six, seven and eight, which aired between July 4 and 18 — take up Nos. 2-7 and 10, paced by Christopher Cross‘ “Sailing” at No. 2.
“Sailing,” a No. 1 hit for Cross on the Hot 100 in August 1980, scored a synch in the sixth episode of the series, as did the No. 3 song, Gerry Rafferty’s “Baker Street” (No. 2 on the Hot 100 in June 1978).
“Sailing” earned 6.5 million streams and 2,000 downloads in July 2024, while “Baker Street” contributed 3.1 million streams and 1,000 downloads.
As for Love Island, whose sixth season premiered in June and ran through July, the top-performing track was Chance Pena’s “The Mountain Is You” at No. 8 following its appearance in episode 22 (July 5) via 1.4 million streams.

As shared exclusively with Billboard Friday (Aug. 16), the streaming service has recruited Scherzinger to be a mentor and judge alongside judges Payne and Rowland. McLean is set to host the series. Scherzinger previously served on judging panels for The X Factor, Masked Singer and The Sing-Off.
With its team of experienced boy/girl band experts on lock (which encompasses members of the Pussycat Dolls, One Direction, Destiny’s Child and Backstreet Boys), Building the Band will bring together a number of talented singers and task them with forming their own bands without ever seeing each other. Isolated in individual booths, all they’ll have to go on when selecting their bandmates is musical compatibility, connection, chemistry and merit, according to a release.

“What will happen when the bands finally meet, and looks, choreography, and style come into play?” a description reads. “With incredible performances, compelling drama, and one big goal — to find the next great music band — the stage is set for an unforgettable experience.”
Additional announcements regarding guest judges and the show’s various challenges are yet to come. Production companies Remarkable Entertainment and Banijay UK are behind the project, with Cat Lawson, Alison Holloway, Katrina Morrison, Clara Elliot and Simon Crossley on board as executive producers.
“Building the Band is a brave and bold undertaking for all involved as we hand over power to the singers themselves to form their own band based on chemistry first,” Lawson said in a statement. “With looks out of the equation, can they create a deeper connection with their bandmates? With limited bands, there are difficult decisions and heart stopping moments along the way, but ultimately the outcome is truly amazing, with bands forming who in my opinion are worthy of the very biggest stage.”

Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis have chosen their fighters for the cast of their WARRIORS musical album, tapping Marc Anthony, Luis Figueroa, Flaco Navaja and Chris Rivers to lend their voices to the project.
As revealed Thursday (Aug. 15), Anthony will star as Tato on the LP, while Figueroa is locked in to play Miguel. Navaja will portray Jesús and Rivers receives billing as “The Bronx.” Additional voices will be announced “very soon,” according to a release.
WARRIORS will feature 26 tracks following the members of a fictitious New York City gang who are framed for the murder of a respected gang leader named Cyrus. The album was inspired by the cult-classic 1979 film The Warriors — which stars Michael Beck, James Remar, Deborah Van Valkenburgh and Marcelino Sánchez — as well as the movie’s source novel by Sol Yurick.

“We’ve spent the past three years musicalizing the Warriors’ journey home, from the South Bronx to Coney Island,” said Miranda and Davis, who co-wrote the album, in a joint statement. “Along the way, we’ve gotten to work with a lot of our favorite artists, and we’ll be announcing their roles on the album in the weeks ahead. We can’t wait to share these songs with you on Oct. 18.”
As previously announced, Grammy Award winner Nas is on board as executive producer, bringing his New York City roots to the table. Plus, Grammy winner Mike Elizondo takes the helm as producer.
WARRIORS marks just the latest high-profile musical project created by Miranda, who found global fame in 2015 for writing and starring in the Broadway musical Hamilton. The following year, its cast recording won a Grammy for best musical theater album and became the first-ever Broadway cast recording to be certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America, while its follow-up project, The Hamilton Mixtape, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 2016.
Later, the Tony winner wrote and produced the soundtracks for the Disney films Moana and Encanto. The former made history for weeks spent at No. 1 on Billboard’s soundtracks chart, while the latter topped the Billboard 200 for several weeks.
Davis is also a prolific actor, writer and singer-songwriter known for her work on stage and screen, as well as a former finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Drama for her play Bulrusher. In addition to writing and starring in Angela’s Mixtape, she’s lent her pen to television series such as Netflix’s She’s Gotta Have It and FX’s Justified: City Primeval, and she has appeared in numerous theater productions and films.
Demi Lovato has a complicated relationship with her adolescent years, which the former Disney Channel idol explores in the upcoming documentary Child Star. And in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, they went even more in-depth about feelings of sadness and regret that have lingered from that time, especially concerning people who may have been hurt in stride.
“I didn’t realize that child stardom could be traumatic — and it isn’t traumatic for everyone, but for me, it was,” Lovato told the publication in a profile published Wednesday (Aug. 14), expressing regret for treating some of the people in her orbit poorly while working on past Disney projects.

“I think about people in the wardrobe department on [Sonny With a Chance] because I’d go in there in bad moods all the time, and I worry about guest stars that came on or the other actors or the people during Camp Rock 2,” they continued. “And it’s easy to excuse that behavior because I was so young and in so much pain, but I’m really remorseful, and that’s a guilt that stays with you forever.”
Lovato also recalled the tensions that arose from being the primary money-maker in her family as a teenager. “Having the child be the breadwinner almost inherently changes the dynamic of a family, and then it becomes, like, how do you discipline that breadwinner?” the singer said of their mom and stepdad. “I mean, they’d try to ground me, but I was an egotistical child star, and I thought I was on top of the world. I’d be like, ‘But I pay the bills,’ and what do you say to that?”
Also featuring interviews with Drew Barrymore, Kenan Thompson, Raven-Symoné, Alyson Stoner and JoJo Siwa, Child Star arrives Sept. 17 on Hulu and marks Lovato’s directorial debut. In the THR interview, she describes wanting the project to serve as a cautionary tale for parents of other kids gunning for a career in the “pressure cooker” of Hollywood.
Now 32, the “Cool for the Summer” artist is happily in love with fiancé Jutes and is considering having children, possibly soon. As for whether those kids will be allowed to pursue careers like she did, Lovato says there’s a hard bottom line.
“I’d say, ‘Let’s study music theory and prepare you for the day you turn 18, because it’s not happening before that,’” they told the publication. “Not because I don’t believe in you or love you or want you to be happy, but because I want you to have a childhood, the childhood that I didn’t have.’”

BLACKPINK’s LISA is used to being on stage in front of thousands of screaming fans, but when it came to her casting in the upcoming third season of the HBO drama The White Lotus, the veteran performer got those familiar butterflies in her stomach.
“Oh my God, Mike White? I think he’s a genius,” Lisa told Elle magazine about the show’s creator tapping her for her acting debut. “I think I cried. I was with my friends, my mom’s friends, and my mom as well, but I didn’t tell them that I auditioned for it. I’m super excited and nervous, because it’s my first acting project. So I was happy for a second, and then I was like, ‘Oh, wait, wait, how am I going to deliver this?’”
Luckily for LISA, while acting is not on her resumé, she does have some relevant experience. “It’s pretty new to me, but I think it’s similar to shooting music videos. I’m excited for my fans to see it,” she said. As for what the third go-round of the murder mystery dramedy has in store, LISA was, of course, mum to avoid any spoilers. “I feel like people are going to fall in love with Thailand even more,” she said diplomatically.

Production on the as-yet-unscheduled third season was initially delayed because of the 2023 writers/actors strikes, with HBO/Max now saying that it is slated to premiere in 2025. The upcoming season of the show that chronicles the lives of the rich and famous is being filmed at luxury resorts across Thailand, which happens to be LISA’s home country.
She told the magazine that filming in Bangkok and the islands of Phuket and Koh Samui was a great chance for the K-pop icon to “be back home, to have Thai food every day” and have her mother be close to the set.
LISA is slated to release a new single on Thursday (August 15), “New Woman,” featuring Rosalía as the follow up to her previous solo single, “Rockstar.”
