Travis Kelce Reveals How He First Got in Touch With Taylor Swift: ‘I Had Somebody Playing Cupid’

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are arguably the world’s most high-profile couple right now, consistently making headlines on the daily for simply holding hands or enjoying dinner together. But the exact circumstances of how their paths first crossed, other than the Chiefs star shooting his shot via a friendship bracelet, have largely remained a mystery — until now.

In a new Wall Street Journal profile on Kelce, the Kansas City tight end finally revealed what really happened after he was famously blocked from meeting the pop star at her July Eras Tour show in Kansas City. His attempts to slip her a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it were also unsuccessful that night, something he later went viral for talking about on his New Heights podcast. Then, just two months later, the “Anti-Hero” singer attended her first Chiefs games at Arrowhead Stadium, and the rest was history.

But what happened in between? According to Kelce, someone in Swift’s camp brought his public crush on her to her attention. “There were definitely people she knew that knew who I was, in her corner [who said]: Yo! Did you know he was coming?” the football player told the publication. “I had somebody playing Cupid.”

Soon after, Kelce apparently received a text from Swift. “She told me exactly what was going on and how I got lucky enough to get her to reach out,” he said.

The Ohio native didn’t say who exactly put him on Swift’s radar, although he did hint that a few of the 12-time Grammy winner’s family members may have helped his case.

“She’ll probably hate me for saying this, but … when she came to Arrowhead [for her concert], they gave her the big locker room as a dressing room,” he said. “And her little cousins were taking pictures … in front of my locker.”

The pair then started talking before eventually meeting for the first time in New York. “We had already kind of been talking, so I knew we could have a nice dinner and, like, a conversation, and what goes from there will go from there,” said Kelce. “Everybody around me [was] telling me: Don’t f–k this up! And me sitting here saying, Yeah — got it.”

And while Kelce has opened up about certain elements of his relationship with Swift on New Heights or in post-game press conferences, he’s done his best to keep things as private as possible so that the “Karma” musician never starts to feel uncomfortable. “That was the biggest thing to me,” he told the publication. “Make sure I don’t say anything that would push Taylor away.”

Chipotle, Taco Bell & More Use Taylor Swift Lyrics to Poke Fun at Travis Kelce’s Resurfaced Tweets

Fans have been having a field day with Travis Kelce‘s X page, digging up dozens of decade-old tweets amid his romance with Taylor Swift — and brands such as Chipotle, Taco Bell and Olive Garden are throwing their own jokes into the ring.

Kelce’s hilarious and often misspelled tweets date back to the late 2000s, when the Kansas City Chiefs tight end was still an early twenties college student at the University of Cincinnati. In one from 2011, for example, he wrote, “Went from class to therapy, now I need some #chipolte and then I’m off to check out my new apt!!”

Chipotle’s official account retweeted Kelce’s resurfaced post with a reference to his superstar girlfriend’s “Anti-Hero” lyrics. “it’s me, hi,” the company wrote Wednesday (Nov. 15).

Other restaurants that were shouted out by Kelce over a decade ago also followed suit, with Olive Garden retweeting his post about “#shmackin” fettuccini chicken alfredo with a custom take on Swift prose: “It’s a love story, baby just say ‘when’ ❤️?.”

Taco Bell, retweeting a 2009 update from Kelce that he was “Bout to get some Taco Bell!!!,” added that “karma is a crunchwrap coming straight home to me.”

Swifties have also been cracking their own jokes about Kelce’s tweets, expressing particular fondness for one in which he recalled giving “a squirle a peice of bread and it straight smashed all of it!!!!”

“taylor swift in 2011: from when your brooklyn broke my skin and bones i’m a soldier who’s returning half her weight, and did the twin flame bruise paint you blue? just between us, did the love affair maim you too?… travis kelce in 2011: i just gave a squirle a peice of bread,” quipped one fan, receiving nearly 100,000 likes at press time.

It’s not entirely clear exactly when or why fans and chain restaurants started combing through the Ohio native’s long forgotten posts, making them go viral this week. The ongoing phenomenon does, however, come shortly after Swift changed her “Karma” lyrics at her Saturday (Nov. 11) Eras Tour show to give her new boyfriend a shoutout — “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs coming straight home to me” — before running into his arms for a kiss backstage.

Swift had much to celebrate last week, having picked up six Grammy nominations — including nods for album, song and record of the year — on Friday (Nov. 10). She’s also the lead finalist for the 2023 Billboard Music Awards, with nods in 20 categories. (Stream the BBMAs Sunday, Nov. 19, at BBMAs.watch, or via Billboard and the BBMAs’ social channels.)

Travis Kelce Was ‘Shocked’ by Taylor Swift’s ‘Karma’ Lyric Change: ‘I Had No Clue’

Taylor Swift absolutely blew up the internet after her Saturday (Nov. 11) Buenos Aires, Argentina, Eras Tour show by changing her “Karma” lyrics to shout out her football star boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and now, Mr. Karma himself is opening up about the viral moment.

“Yeah no I had no clue [she would do that] … well, I might have had a little bit of a clue, but definitely when I heard it come out of her mouth, it still shocked me,” Kelce admitted on the latest episode of his New Heights podcast, which he co-hosts with brother Jason Kelce. “I was like, ‘Oh s–t, she really just said that.’”

Swift had altered the lyrics slightly to sing, “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs coming straight home to me.” (The original line goes, “Karma is the guy on the screen coming straight home to me.)

The tight end was so surprised by the pop star’s gesture, in fact, that he completely missed that Swift’s father, Scott, who sported a Chiefs lanyard that night, was trying to give him a high-five. “Mr. Swift, I apologize, big guy. Oh man, I missed that,” he said, adding that he “persuaded” the patriarch, a longtime Eagles fan, to join Chiefs Nation after meeting him at dinner the night prior.

“I was enjoying myself down there in Buenos Aires,” Travis continued. “The show was even more electric knowing that I had a little bit more to enjoy it for and yeah. Taylor absolutely ripped it. She killed it. And it looked like she was having some fun up there.”

The Ohio native went on to give insider details about Swift’s decision to postpone her Friday (Nov. 10) show, which he had originally planned to attend, due to severe weather risks. “The entire stage is an LED screen, so, lightning and electronics don’t mesh very well,” he explained to his older brother, how is the Eagles’ center.

“She wasn’t too happy,” he continued. “She kind of prides herself on performing through weather or rain. But when it’s unsafe to her and her crew and everybody in the stadium, you gotta do what you gotta do.”

Kelce ended up attending Swift’s Saturday show, while her Friday show was rescheduled to Sunday. “I think it ended up being perfect,” the athlete said. “I was blown away. It was an electric crowd, too. And for everybody that went to those shows, Taylor was on record saying it was one of her favorite places to play. So hats off to you guys for showing the love.”

The day she announced her postponement, Swift picked up six Grammy nominations, including nods for album, song and record of the year. She’s also the lead finalist for the 2023 Billboard Music Awards, with nods in 20 categories. (Stream the BBMAs Sunday, Nov. 19, at BBMAs.watch, or via Billboard and the BBMAs’ social channels.)

Gigi Hadid Shuts Down Rumors That She Doesn’t Support Taylor Swift & Travis Kelce’s Romance

Gigi Hadid is setting the record straight. After reports surfaced that she may not be the biggest fan of Taylor Swift‘s romance with Travis Kelce , the 28-year-old model spoke up on social media to clarify just where she stands when it comes to her friend’s new relationship.

On an Instagram post from Perez Hilton alleging that Hadid “doesn’t agree” with the way Swift is “handling” her relationship with Kelce, the model quickly and succinctly shut down the claims. “I’m a couple days late to this tag.. but didn’t the press try this last week w Selena?” she wrote Monday (Nov. 13), referring to a recent tabloid report that Gomez was concerned about the “Anti-Hero” singer moving too fast with Kelce.

“Let it be.. we are all over the moon for our girl,” added Hadid, suggesting that Gomez feels the same way. “Period.”

Her remarks come just a couple of days after Swift and the Chiefs tight end spent the weekend together in Argentina, where the 33-year-old pop star performed three Eras Tour shows. On Saturday, Kelce was spotted enjoying her concert from a VIP tent next to Swift’s father, blushing and smiling when the pop superstar changed up her “Karma” lyrics to give him a shoutout: “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs coming straight home to me.”

After the show, Swift was spotted in an adorable video running into Kelce’s arms, sharing a big kiss before disappearing together backstage.

Swift is the leading finalist with nods in 20 categories at the 2023 Billboard Music Awards. You can watch the BBMAs here, and via Billboard and the BBMA’s social media channels on Nov. 19.

Hilarie Burton Predicts Taylor Swift & Travis Kelce Will ‘Be Engaged by May’

Hilarie Burton is calling it: Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift will be “Mr. and Mrs.” by spring 2024.

Following Swift’s adorable lyric change at her Argentina Eras concert this weekend, in which she gave Kelce a special shoutout by altering the bridge of “Karma” — “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs coming straight home to me” — Burton tweeted her prediction on Sunday (Nov. 12) that wedding bells will ring in the new couple’s near future.

“They are gonna have the most flannel lined, pie and red ribbon kinda Christmas….,” tweeted the One Tree Hill actress, re-sharing a video of Kelce smiling at the pop star’s gesture from his VIP tent in the audience. “And then these babies are gonna be engaged by May.”

Burton went on to theorize that Swift decided to change her lyrics just for Kelce because, unlike the Kansas City tight end, “every other guy made her feel like she had to downplay her own work.” “This big ol beefy tree of a man is holding up signs and singing along! Catching her as she runs offstage?!?!” she added. “Get a man who lights up when you win. ?”

The White Collar alum is far from the only fan placing bets on Swift and Kelce’s future nuptials, with one person commenting on her post, “I say February if he wins the superbowl! February 14th precisely.” Others speculated that a proposal will be in the books by summer of next year, while one Swiftie reckons it’ll happen within the next six months.

Why is the internet suddenly certain that Swift and Kelce are end game? It probably has something to do with the fact that shortly after her “Karma” lyric switch, Swift was captured in a now viral video running into the athlete’s arms and planting a big kiss on him backstage. Fans also loved how supportive Kelce looked while watching the pop star perform, with videos showing he danced along and held up a “We will stay” sign throughout the night.

In addition to recently being nominated for six Grammys, Swift is the top finalist at the 2023 Billboard Music Awards with 20 nods. The ceremony will stream on Sunday, Nov. 19, and will be available at BBMAs.watch, as well as Billboard and the BBMAs’ social channels.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Enjoy Dinner Date Amid Eras Tour Shows in Buenos Aires

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce enjoyed a night out in Buenos Aires, Argentina, while the pop superstar continues the South American leg of her Eras Tour.

On Friday (Nov. 10), Swift and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end were spotted on a dinner date at Argentinian steakhouse Elena, a restaurant in the Four Seasons Hotel, according to People. The lovebirds were reportedly joined by Swift’s father, Scott Kingsley Swift.

The “Cruel Summer” singer and NFL star were caught on camera holding hands while entering the dining establishment, as seen in a fan-captured video on X (formerly Twitter). In another clip, the pair receives cheers from people in the background as they walk into the restaurant.

The timing of the Friday night date worked out well, as Swift was forced to postpone her second Eras show at Buenos Aires’ Estadio River Plate due to dangerous weather conditions and because Kelce’s football team is on their bye week.

Swift launched the international leg of her Eras Tour on Thursday (Nov. 9). During the show, she delivered her nightly two surprise songs. For her first concert in Buenos Aires, the “Maroon” singer offered up “The Very First Night,” followed by the Midnights deep cut “Labyrinth.”

“Uh oh, I’m falling in love/ Oh no, I’m falling in love again,” Swift smiled while singing the chorus of “Labyrinth,” prompting Swifties to flood X with speculation that she’s singing about Kelce.

“MY GIRL IS SMITTEN,” tweeted one fan. “WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TRAVIS KELCE.”

Kelce didn’t attend Swift’s first Buenos Aires show on Thursday, but he had good reason for missing the event. The Chiefs star was instead at teammate Patrick Mahomes’ fourth annual 15 and Mahomies Foundation Gala in Kansas City. Kelce was spotted in video from the event shared on the foundation’s Instagram Stories. In one clip, he stood up at his table and clapped in thanks to the cheers from attendees after he received recognition for becoming the team’s all-time leading receiver during a recent game against the Miami Dolphins.

Swifties Thank Travis Kelce for Taylor Swift Performing ‘Labyrinth’ on Eras Tour

Oh no, she’s falling in love again … or so it seems. Taylor Swift picked up right where she left off on the Eras Tour with her first of three shows in Argentina Thursday night (Nov. 9), returning to her nightly routine of singing two surprise songs — one of which brought Travis Kelce to mind for many fans.

After performing “The Very First Night” on guitar, the 33-year-old pop star moved over to her piano for an enchanting acoustic rendering of “Labyrinth,” a Midnights deep cut known for its vulnerable lyrics and trumpeting synth waves. After videos of the song popped up online, Swifties were quick to note that Swift seemed particularly smiley while singing the hook, “Uh oh, I’m falling in love/ Oh no, I’m falling in love again.”

Many wondered whether a certain Kansas City Chiefs tight end had anything to do with Swift’s demeanor, while others were under the impression that they don’t have to wonder at all. “TRAVIS KELCE I ADORE YOU FOR THIS,” tweeted one fan who shared a clip of the “Anti-Hero” singer’s performance.

“MY GIRL IS SMITTEN,” wrote another. “WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TRAVIS KELCE.”

Swift has been linked to Kelce since September, when the 12-time Grammy winner first attended one of the athlete’s games at Arrowhead Stadium. She’s gone to several more in the months since, and the two have been spotted holding hands on a few occasions (most notably as they departed Saturday Night Live after both made surprise cameos).

After she wraps up in Argentina, Swift will move on to Brazil, Japan, Australia and Singapore. From there, she’ll take her blockbuster trek through Europe and Canada.

Here’s Why Travis Kelce Skipped Taylor Swift’s First Eras Tour Concert in Argentina

Taylor Swift launched the international leg of the Eras Tour Thursday (Nov. 9) in Buenos Aires, Argentina. And while her shows have often had star-studded audiences, one person was missing from the kickoff show: new beau Travis Kelce.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end had a good reason for missing the pop superstar’s show, though. Kelce was instead at teammate Patrick Mahomes’ fourth annual 15 and Mahomies Foundation Gala in Kansas City. The NFL star was spotted in video from the event shared on the foundation’s Instagram Stories. In one clip, Kelce stood up at his table and clapped in thanks to the cheers from attendees after he received recognition for becoming the team’s all-time leading receiver during a recent game against the Miami Dolphins.

During the event, quarterback Mahomes’ foundation awarded $615,000 in grants to its charitable partners. The foundation works to improve kids’ lives, and supports initiatives that focus on health and other charitable causes.

At Swift’s first of three shows at the Estadio River Plate in Buenos Aires Thursday, the 12-time Grammy winner delivered two surprise songs, as she has been doing throughout her Eras Tour. To kick off her shows in Argentina, she performed “The Very First Night” and “Labyrinth.” In fan-captured video, Swift was spotted with a smile on her face as she sang the chorus of the latter song, which goes, “Uh-oh, I’m fallin’ in love/ Oh no, I’m fallin’ in love again/ Oh, I’m fallin’ in love/ I thought the plane was goin’ down/ How’d you turn it right around?”

Fans immediately went into a tizzy on Twitter, speculating that she was singing about Kelce. “MY GIRL IS SMITTEN WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TRAVIS KELCE,” tweeted one fan. Wrote another, “that cringe reporter to travis: are u in love? taylor: well let ME answer that question.”

While Kelce may not be at Swift’s first show in Argentina, there have been multiple reports that he’ll be traveling to South America to cheer her on, just as the singer-songwriter has done for him at his games at Arrowhead Stadium. A source close to the pair confirmed to NBC News on that the NFL star will be heading to Argentina to watch her perform.

On the newest episode of New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce, the athletic brothers had a cute and cryptic exchange about Kansas City Chiefs tight end’s weekend plans while his team has the week off.

“Got anything you’re looking forward to going to?” Jason asked his brother, as Travis replied, “Not really. I might just say f— it and just go somewhere nice, I don’t know. My skin’s getting real pale so I gotta go somewhere sunny.”

“Somewhere south?” Jason teased, before Travis added, “Closer to the equator.”

The Philadelphia Eagles center then pushed a little further, asking, “South of the equator?” to which Travis responded with laughter.

Swift’s Latin American leg of her wildly popular Eras Tour kicked off back in August with four shows in Mexico City. She’s set to perform at Buenos Aires’ River Plate Stadium on November 9, 10 and 11. Following her three dates in Argentina, Swift will head over to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Nov. 18 and 19 before wrapping up in São Paulo, Brazil, on Nov. 24, 25 and 26. Sabrina Carpenter is the opener for the Latin American tour dates.

Earlier this month, the “Anti-Hero” singer was declared a Buenos Aires guest of honor by local legislatives following an approved declaration bill filed by legislator Roy Cortina, according to Buenos Aires Herald. In his bill, Cortina cited Swift as a positive influence on the Argentine audience and noted the economic benefits of her Eras tour entering the city. With 220,000 tickets sold, the bill noted that the sold-out shows “will have an impact on jobs and tourism all over Buenos Aires City.”

Taylor Swift Cozies Up With Brittany Mahomes & More NFL Wives in New Pics

No “Champagne Problems” here: Taylor Swift made her debut on Brittany Mahomes’ Instagram page Tuesday (Nov. 7) with two bubbly new photos from their girls’ night out in New York City over the weekend.

While the Saturday night hang also included Swift’s A-list BFFs Selena Gomez, Sophie Turner and Gigi Hadid, the new pics shared by Mahomes are strictly for NFL WAGs (that’s “wives and girlfriends,” to steal some U.K. football slang). Swift and Mahomes are joined in the photos by Lyndsay Bell and Paige Buechele, the wives of Kansas City Chiefs tight end Blake Bell and Buffalo Bills quarterback Shane Buechele (who was released by the Chiefs in August). Mahomes is the wife of Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, and Swift, of course, is dating Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

In the first pic, the quartet smile for the camera while clinking their Champagne glasses and then take a sip of bubbly in the second.

While these are the first photos Brittany Mahomes has shared with Swift, they’ve been photographed together quite a bit over the past couple of months, from nights out in New York to cheering on their partners from a private suite at Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium. Headlines about Swift and Kelce’s relationship kicked into overdrive when Swift attended her first Chiefs game on Sept. 24 after months of murmurs about the high-profile pair.

At the Chiefs’ Oct. 12 game against the Denver Broncos, Swift wrapped Brittany Mahomes up in a bear hug when Kelce caught a perfect pass thrown by Patrick Mahomes that set Kansas City up for a touchdown.

As ever, Swift is riding a major professional high, with the No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 (her 1989 re-recording) and the No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 (the 1989 vault track “Is It Over Now?,” which replaces her own “Cruel Summer” up top). She’s also going into the 2023 Billboard Music Awards on Nov. 19 as the leading finalist, with nods in 20 categories, and is set to restart her blockbuster Eras Tour on Thursday in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
