Super Bowl

Legendary quarterback Brett Favre believes that Taylor Swift may take the blame if the Kansas City Chiefs don’t make it to the Super Bowl this year. The Pro Football Hall of Famer was recently asked if he thinks that the pop superstar has become a “distraction” for Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce amid the couple’s […]

Alesso‘s caught a gig. The Swedish DJ and music producer is set to perform at Michelob Ultra’s Super Bowl party on Jan. 10 in Las Vegas, Billboard can exclusively report. The “Words” artist joins previously announced headliners Lil Wayne and T-Pain.
“I’m so excited to be a part of this legendary lineup of performers with Lil Wayne and T-Pain at the Michelob ULTRA Country Club in Las Vegas next month,” Alesso tells Billboard. “Michelob ULTRA always throws one of the biggest Super Bowl parties every year, so you won’t want to miss it.”

Billboard can also announce that the event will be hosted by soccer player Alex Morgan and former NFL quarterback Dan Marino. The shindig — called the Michelob Ultra Country Club — will be held at the Topgolf in Sin City, and goes from 7 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

The party will combine — what else! — golf, entertainment, and food and drinks. In addition to live performances by Alesso, Lil Wayne and T-Pain across two stages, the Country Club will feature an “all-star celebrity golf shoot-out,” giveaways and appearances by celebrities and athletes.

“We’re thrilled to bring the much-anticipated Michelob ULTRA Country Club to Topgolf Las Vegas during the biggest weekend of the year,” Ricardo Marques, Michelob ULTRA’s VP of marketing, previously said in a statement. “By combining the perfect setting with an incredible line-up of artists, hosts and special guest appearances, we’ll create what will truly be a unique experience that seamlessly blends being active with enjoyment, which is something only Michelob ULTRA could deliver.”

All-inclusive “Early Birdie” tickets to the event — which include food and beverages — are on sale now for $269 via Michelob Ultra’s website. Advance and regular tickets will go on sale “soon,” according to the website. VIP table service tickets are also available now, with prices ranging from $7,500 to $15,000.

While the teams for Super Bowl 2024 have not yet been determined, the halftime show performer has been set. Usher will headline the Super Bowl Halftime Show presented by Apple Music on Jan. 11 from Allegiant Stadium in Vegas.

“When I got the call, I was like, ‘Man, I’ve been working really hard my entire career,’” he told Extra in November of his upcoming gig for the big game. “The preparation didn’t start within the last two years of performing in Las Vegas. It really started 30 years ago, and my commitment to it and the journey that I’ve taken musically is why I think I’m given that moment.”

If you thought 2023 was a big year for Ice Spice, you ain’t seen nothing yet.
Hot off the news that the “Boy’s a Liar” star is prepping her debut album for a 2024 release, Billboard can reveal that the rapper has just landed a Super Bowl commercial for STARRY, PepsiCo’s new lemon lime soda.

While STARRY is a sponsor of the NBA and WNBA, this is the beverage brand’s first-ever Super Bowl commercial, bringing the soda — and its mascots Lem and Lime — to the airwaves for the Big Game. And while Ice Spice went viral for her Dunkin Donuts commercial (opposite Ben Affleck, natch), the STARRY spot will also be her first time appearing in a Super Bowl spot.

Details for Ice Spice’s Super Bowl commercial have yet to be announced, though STARRY says the hip-hop star will appear alongside Lem and Lime in the ad. A teaser pic from the set shows Ice Spice sipping on a STARRY soda (with neon yellow nails to match) while dodging longing looks from the green and yellow mascots. Expect a corresponding social campaign to launch in conjunction with the TV commercial.

In a press release, PepsiCo says partnering with the Grammy-nominated “Princess of Rap” was “a no brainer,” adding that “Ice Spice’s charm and charisma are unmatched, making her the perfect fit for the brand’s first Super Bowl commercial.”

“I’m hyped to star in the first-ever STARRY Super Bowl commercial,” Ice Spice tells Billboard. “Trust me,” she adds: “STARRY is a vibe.”

STARRY is the latest offering from PepsiCo, having debuted in January 2023. Since then, the brand has partnered with everyone from Keke Palmer, to NBA stars Karl-Anthony Towns and Zion Williamson, and LSU basketball star Angel Reese on a number of colorful campaigns.

As for Ice Spice, the rapper has been a hot commodity in the partnerships space. She performed at a concert to help launch Bose’s “QuietComfort Ultra” headphones and earbuds in October, and appeared on Instagram’s recent “Close Friends Only” podcast, sitting down with Doja Cat to talk Instagram trends, crazy memes and creators they love.

Super Bowl weekend 2024 needs something just like this! The Chainsmokers and Kygo are set to headline Sports Illustrated‘s SI The Party on Feb. 10 at the Wynn Las Vegas’ XS Nightclub. “Sports Illustrated hosts an amazing event for Big Game weekend every year. I remember playing their Super Bowl event with them a few […]

Just two days after The Color Purple broke a slew of records upon its Christmas Day debut, Usher and H.E.R. have released the steamy new music video for “Risk It All,” their acclaimed collaboration off The Color Purple (Music From and Inspired By).
With Usher sporting nothing but a pair of skin-tight black boxer briefs, the “Good Good” singer effortlessly reminds us of his sex symbol status as H.E.R. matches his energy and equally embraces her sensuality on screen while wearing a low-cut black corset paired with black shorts. The two Grammy winners lip sync to their respective verses as they join background dancers performing modern dance choreography set to the somber, piano-backed ballad. “Sometimes it’s tragic, so problematic / People are cryin’ for it, people are dyin’ for it / Always the reason, we still believe it / Somethin’ that leaves us hurtin’ is worth it,” they croon.

Co-written and produced by H.E.R. — who also stars in the blockbuster movie musical — and Oscar and Grammy winner Jimmy Napes, “Risk It All” embodies the narratives of love, survival, determination and liberation that course through The Color Purple. The song appears on The Color Purple (Music From and Inspired By), which also includes new music from the likes of Fantasia, Halle Bailey, Megan Thee Stallion, Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson, Coco Jones, Alicia Keys, Missy Elliott, Black Thought, October London, Shenseea, Mary Mary, Jorja Smith, Keyshia Cole and more.

The Color Purple opened in theatres on Dec. 25, 2023. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie — which is a film adaptation of the 2005 Tony-winning Broadway musical based on the 1985 Steven Spielberg-helmed film and Alice Walker’s 1982 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel — outpaced expectations and pulled in over $18 million in North America alone. That marks the largest Christmas Day opening for a film since Sherlock Holmes in 2009, as well as the second-largest Christmas Day opening of all time.

Starting on Dec. 27 at 11:00 a.m. ET/8:00 a.m. PT, the Dave Meyers-directed video will premiere on MTV and air every hour on MTVU, MTV Live & MTV Biggest Pop. “Risk It All” will also be included on Usher’s Coming Home, his forthcoming ninth studio album, which is set to arrive the same day he graces the Super Bowl Halftime stage (Feb. 11).

Rihanna is passing the Super Bowl Halftime Show performer torch to Usher in 2024, and she had no advice for the “Yeah” singer. “Hell no, I can’t give Usher no advice,” RiRi told E! News. “Usher is a natural, he’s a legend, he’s been doing this since he’s a teenager. He is made for that […]

Arguably the most show-stopping part of Rihanna‘s Super Bowl Halftime Show earlier this year was her unexpected baby bump reveal, announcing to the world that she was pregnant with her second child. But according to the 35-year-old singer-mogul, the moment was completely unplanned.
“Here’s the thing — I do what I have to do, right?” she told Access Hollywood at her recent Fenty x Puma event in Los Angeles. “My jumper couldn’t zip up. No one knew I was pregnant — I just told my stylist, ‘Make sure it’s stretchy.’”

Come game day, and the “Umbrella” singer’s red jumpsuit zipper wouldn’t even move past her belly — much less cover the bump. “The zip, it just stopped right there,” she said, laughing. “So it had to be what it had to be!”

The Fenty Beauty founder give birth to Riot Rose, her second child with rapper A$AP Rocky, in August. His big brother was born just the year before, with Ri and Rocky welcoming baby RZA in May 2022.

“I loved him differently as a dad,” the “Rude Boy” musician told the outlet of her partner. “It’s a turn-on, it’s just like, wow. What a leader, what a great, patient loving — my kids are obsessed with him. I’m just a background, like I’m an extra.”

Speaking of baby boys, Ri joked that between fashion, beauty, music and business, there is actually one thing she can’t seem to get the hang of: “So far, have daughters,” she quipped to E! News on the Fenty x Puma red carpet.

“I’m batting at a 75% for a boy next time, so we’ll just keep our fingers crossed.”

Music and sports are some of the world’s biggest industries. The two have long had a symbiotic relationship, especially in the United States, where everything is bigger and, well, louder – and doubly so where American football is concerned.   What would Sunday Night Football be, for instance, without its famous theme song? What would players […]

Dolly Parton has no problem saying no to big offers. Whether it’s giving a firm no thank you to Elvis Presley when his manager asked for the half the publishing on “I Will Always Love You” for the honor of the King recording her song to initially declining induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Parton isn’t afraid to stick to her guns.
Even when the NFL comes calling, which they have, several times. Parton told The Hollywood Reporter that she’s turned down playing the coveted Super Bowl halftime gig several times, and for very good reasons.

“Oh, sure. I’ve been offered that many times,” Parton told THR of turning her back on one of the most high-profile gigs in music. “I couldn’t do it because of other things, or I just didn’t think I was big enough to do it — to do that big of a production. When you think about those shows, those are big, big productions. I’ve never done anything with that big of a production. I don’t know if I could have. I think at the time that’s what I was thinking.”

Had Parton said yes, she would have joined a very small roster of country stars who’ve taken the stage for what is typically the highest-rated broadcast TV program of the year, a list that includes 1994’s “Rockin’ Country Sunday” line-up with Clint Black, Tanya Tucker, Wynonna & Naomi Judd and Shania Twain (with No Doubt and Sting) in 2003.

But with her first-ever rock album, Rockstar, due out on Nov. 17, Parton said she’s thinking about blow-out performances in a much different way. “It would make more sense,” she said of playing the blow-out gig that will host Usher on Feb. 11, 2024 in Las Vegas. “That might change. I might be able to do a production show.”

The singer who has won 10 Grammys, been nominated for two Oscars and placed 25 No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart is about to move into uncharted territory with the 30-song album, which features a handful of originals and collaborations on rock classics with everyone from Paul McCartney and Elton John to Stevie Nicks, Sting, Joan Jett, Ringo Starr, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, Emmylou Harris, Lizzo, P!nk, Brandi Carlile and more.

After initially turning down the offer to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame because she said it didn’t feel like the right fit, Parton was inducted last year after gaining a better understanding of how the Hall works. “They’re going to put me in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and somebody like Meat Loaf or some of these other great artists never even made it?’ I didn’t want to take away from somebody that has spent their life in that world like I had spent mine in country [music],” she told THR.

But after learning how the invitation process works, and seeing the variety of acts who’ve been inducted, from rappers (Jay-Z, The Beastie Boys) to pop icons (Madonna, Janet Jackson) — not to mention this year’s class featuring fellow country legend Willie Nelson, rapper/producer Missy Elliott and late pop star George Michael — she now gets it. “They told me all the ways that people’s music has influenced other people around the world … and told me about other people that were in it besides rock. Then I accepted it,” she said.

“But I still didn’t feel great about it. I still thought I needed to earn it,” she said. “That’s why I thought, ‘Well, timing is perfect. There’s a real reason for me to do this rock ‘n’ roll album. Here I am a rock star at 77.’”

While Usher‘s blockbuster Las Vegas residency is one reason he landed the 2024 Super Bowl halftime show, he makes it clear in a new interview that his preparation began long before his recent Vegas stint. “When I got the call, I was like, ‘Man, I’ve been working really hard my entire career,’” he told Extra.
