Culture Wave, a new rock-focused management company founded by industry veterans Andrew Jarrín and Jason Mageau, officially launched on Thursday (Feb. 6) as a subsidiary of Red Light Management. Their roster includes rising artists like Spiritbox and Free Nationals, as well as rock veterans like Senses Fail, We Came As Romans and Kittie.
“I am so excited for what is to come with Culture Wave,” says Mageau. “This is something Andrew and I have been talking about for a while. We finally felt like it was the right time. The both of us have had an exciting career thus far with ups and downs, but it’s all part of the journey that has led us here. I am grateful to our partners at Red Light for their belief in our vision, our clients who were all so encouraging and supportive of this decision, and of course our staff who will help us build brick by brick.”

Prior to launching Culture Wave, Jarrín and Mageau spent five years at Roc Nation, and previously co-founded Royal Division Entertainment. Mageau also helped launch the ticketing company Sound Rink, Inc. and the indie label Pale Chord, in partnership with BMG.

“Over the 15 years Jason and I have worked alongside each other we have seen and experienced a great deal,” says Jarrín. “This is now an opportunity for us to take bits and pieces of everything we valued from each relationship built over those years and craft it into something of our own. With Culture Wave, we intend to give our artists and team everything we always wanted in a company; and partnering with Red Light on this venture gives us additional tools and resources to help amplify those visions.”

Bruce Eskowitz, COO of Red Light, adds, “Andrew and Jason share a strong creative vision and a deep love for music. They are always pushing boundaries. We are excited to have them and their team at Culture Wave part of Red Light Management.”

One of Culture Wave’s first orders of business is the release of Spiritbox’s highly anticipated sophomore album, Tsunami Sea, on March 7 through Pale Chord / Rise Records. The progressive metal band, whose single “Cellar Door” was nominated for best metal performance at this year’s Grammy Awards, will kick off a U.S. headlining tour in April.

Under the pact, Warner Music Japan’s international marketing and ADA divisions will work with Red Light to build a marketing and label channel for Red Light artists. They will also work to foster collaboration between Red Light artists and domestic performers in Japan.

The partnership kicks off with the promotion of Ghostly Kisses, the musical project of French-Canadian singer-songwriter Margaux Sauvé, who is signed to British label Akira Records. She performed for the first time in Tokyo in December ahead of her new album release set for early this year.

Red Light Management’s roster of artists, writers and producers includes Dave Matthews Band, Punctual, Enrique Iglesias, Brittany Howard, Lady A, Lionel Richie, Interpol, ODESZA, Phish, The Strokes, Sabrina Carpenter, Chris Stapleton, Danny L Harle and Lewis Thompson.

James Sandom, managing partner at Red Light Management, said in a statement, “We’re super excited to partner with Warner Music on this initiative to help our artists with a dynamic new route into Japan.  The Japanese market has unique characteristics, a landscape requiring bespoke attention and knowledge of the local music and entertainment sector.  Bringing this knowledge together with our artists will help them build fan communities in this special market, with the aim of enabling a new generation of artists to find success in Japan.”

Kaz Shimada, COO of Warner Music Japan, added, “In recent years we have worked hard to help international artists connect with local fans as we transitioned from physical to digital. This exciting new partnership is another significant step forward, as we combine our experience promoting some of the biggest global stars in Japan with Red Light Management’s super-talented managers and amazing roster of artists.”

Tape Room Music has entered a strategic partnership with Red Light Ventures and Firebird Music, which purchased more than 350 songs from various Tape Room Publishing catalogs as part of the transaction. The catalog sale includes “Body Like a Back Road” (recorded by Sam Hunt), “Do I Make You Wanna” (Billy Currington), “Sunrise, Sunburn, Sunset” […]

Artist management company WHY&HOW has merged with Red Light Management, effective immediately.

WHY&HOW CEO/founder Bruce Kalmick launched the company in 2020 after more than a decade in the music industry. The firm, which will keep its own branding following the merger, is now a full-service management operation, allowing it to collaborate across all areas of the industry and offer enhanced resources to its roster of clients. Under the deal, all 20 WHY&HOW staff members in marketing, creative and brand endorsements will join Red Light Management’s operations.

WHY&HOW’s artist roster includes Breland, Kaleo, Whiskey Myers, Danielle Bradbery, Drake White, Read Southall Band, William Clark Green and Chase Rice.

“With our new partnership, WHY&HOW is gaining the opportunity to learn from one of the most influential executives in the music business, [Red Light Management founder] Coran Capshaw,” said Kalmick in a statement. “We can’t wait to get started on this exciting new chapter.”

“We’re excited about our new partnership with WHY&HOW,” Capshaw added. “Bruce has put together a great group of artists as well as a very talented management team. We look forward to working alongside them to help enhance all aspects of their business.”

Capshaw founded Red Light Management in 1991 in Charlottesville, Virginia, while helping spearhead Dave Matthews Band‘s career from local club favorite to renowned touring group. In addition to Dave Matthews Band, Red Light Management’s roster includes Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, Enrique Iglesias, Brandi Carlile, Dierks Bentley, ODESZA, Chris Stapleton and more. The company’s work also extends into the fields of touring, commerce, festivals, licensing, branded entertainment and artist-driven philanthropy.
