Super Bowl LVIII will take place in just under two weeks after the conclusion of the AFC and NFC championship games this weekend. The San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs will face off against one another for Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas, but some fans online are suggesting this was a matchup planned by the NFL all along.
During the AFC championship, the Chiefs, with stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, were visiting the Baltimore Ravens’ home field where it was thought that NFL MVP candidate Lamar Jackson would lead his team to victory. With a series of penalties, miscues, and the like, the Chiefs’ defense proved to be too much and their experience shined through.
For the NFC championship, the Detroit Lions appeared to be running away with the whole thing in the first half as Jared Goff shredded the 49ers’ secondary. However, it all came apart in the second half as Brock Purdy and the rest of the offense began to heat up with the Lions unable to answer the bell.
For many, this wasn’t the desired outcome as the Lions had a feel-good story about a franchise that has long been frozen out of competing for a Super Bowl title, while the Ravens, behind the talents of Jackson, hoped to bring the title home for Charm City once more.
As it stands, some fans online are suggesting that the 49ers-Chiefs lineup is a desired outcome ratings-wise, pointing to the Chiefs’ Kelce and the hype around his relationship with Taylor Swift as a marketing boost while the 49ers are one of the marquee teams in the league with Purdy, Christian McCaffrey, and Christian McCaffrey leading the offense. We’ve got those reactions below.

While things didn’t turn out the way he would have liked, Eminem had a positive message for his hometown NFL warriors on the Detroit Lions. “So proud of the @Lions,” the D-Town native of his favorite NFL team after the Lions fell to the San Francisco 49ers 34-31 on Sunday, spoiling the Motor City team’s bid to make it to their first-ever Super Bowl.
“Thanks 4 an amazing season!!!! We’ll b back!!!,” Eminem added about the team that put up a 12-5 season that tied the franchise record for most wins. It was a positive boost from one of the team’s most high-profile boosters, with Marshall, 51, showing his hometown pride during the game at Levi’s Stadium in San Fran in another picture captured by a fan in which the rapper — decked out in a Lions shirt and hat — holds up two middle fingers to a group of 49ers fans from his spot in a luxury box.
It was a playful gesture from the “Not Afraid” MC, who recently posted a jokey video aimed at Lions coach Dan Campbell offering to suit up if it would help the team reach the big game. “Yo Dan,” Eminem said in the video. “I’m reporting, I’m gonna report [in the] third quarter, I’m reporting, offensive line, eligible receiver, I’ll be the quarterback, the entire offensive line and the receiver, and I will throw it to myself and I will score a touchdown in the third quarter. Just give me a uniform, or at just least like a helmet. I already have a helmet, it’s not the one for football. It’s just a helmet. But yeah man, I’m here, bro. I’m gonna be there, I’m gonna be there that night, I will suit up and I will score us the winning touchdown.”
And while Em will have to wait another year to see if the Lions can come back stronger, another A-list, chart-topping NFL booster is potentially headed to the Feb. 11 Super Bowl in Las Vegas after the Kansas City Chiefs bested the Baltimore Ravens to advance from the AFC title game. In the family skybox for that one, of course, was Taylor Swift, who once again cheered on her boyfriend, KC tight end Travis Kelce, who had a monster day helping KC reach the Super Bowl for the fourth time in five years.
Because the Lions couldn’t overcome San Francisco QB Brock Purdy’s and company’s late-game surge, dreams of a superstar summit at Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium for the Super Bowl pitting Swifties against Stans will have to wait for a different year.

The singer wore a custom diamond friendship bracelet from Wove’s Michelle Wie West collection, with pricing starting at $5,680. The piece could be seen in photos of Swift hugging and kissing Kelce on the field of M&T Bank Stadium following the Kansas City Chiefs’ win against the Baltimore Ravens.
Swift’s yellow gold bracelet shimmered with the letters ‘TNT,’ which fans are guessing is a nickname for Travis and Taylor.
“An up close look at Taylor’s diamond friendship bracelet!” the jeweler posted on Instagram after the Jan. 28 game.
The ‘TNT’ friendship bracelet harkens back to how Travis met Taylor. In July, the Chiefs tight end attended Swift’s Eras Tour stop at Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium.
As Travis recounted on his New Heights podcast, he planned to give Swift a friendship bracelet that had his phone number on it, but he didn’t get the chance to meet her at the show.
Inspired by the lyric “So make the friendship bracelets/ Take the moment and taste it” from Midnights album track “You’re On Your Own, Kid,” Swifties trade homemade jewelry with one another at each tour stop. Kelce was trying to get in on that trend.
“I was disappointed that she doesn’t talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings,” Kelce said on his show, “so I was a little butt-hurt I didn’t get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her.”
“She doesn’t meet anybody, or at least she didn’t want to meet me, so I took it personal,” he quipped to his co-host, his brother, Jason Kelce.
Yet in September, Swift was spotted at her first Chiefs game (with many more to come).
By October, photos of the pair holding hands and kissing on the cheek surfaced.
In November, Swift swapped the “Karma” lyric “Karma is the guy in the screen coming straight home to me” for “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs coming straight home to me” live at a concert in Buenos Aires, and then ran into Kelce’s arms to kiss him once the show wrapped.
In December, Swift finally spoke about their romance and clarified the timeline of the relationship. “This all started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell … We started hanging out right after that,” she shared for her TIME Person of the Year cover story. “By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple. I think some people think that they saw our first date at that game? We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date.”
Swift resumes her Eras Tour in Tokyo on Feb. 7, while Kelce and the Chiefs are headed to the Super Bowl on Feb. 11.

No stranger to making it through a rain show, Swift smartly wore her hair in its natural state. She arrived in casual, probably air-dried, debut-era curls, and had friends Cara Delevingne and Keleigh Teller by her side.
Cameras also showed Swift celebrating when Kelce scored a touchdown, giving a 10 for Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco, and basically having a great time as she watched the game from a suite.
At one point, the pop icon didn’t seem to know why the camera was on her — and then realized a promo for the Grammy Awards was playing. “Oh, the Grammys,” she seemed to say to Teller.
Last weekend, Swift cheered on Travis alongside his family, including Jason and Kylie Kelce, at the Chiefs-Bills game.
“Tay said she absolutely loved you,” Travis revealed to his older brother, Jason, during the latest episode of their podcast, New Heights.
The Philadelphia Eagles center had his own moment in the spotlight at that game when he went viral for taking off his shirt, guzzling beer, passionately cheering on his brother and jumping out of the suite into the stands.
“[Your] best first impression is the worst impression ever,” Travis joked.
“I’m not going to lie, I gave Kylie a heads-up,” Jason recalled. “The moment we get into the suite, I said, ‘I’m taking my shirt off and jumping out of that suite.’ And she said, ‘Jason, don’t you dare.’”
“She was already telling me to be on my best behavior ’cause we were meeting Taylor, so she’s like, ‘Do not. Be on your best behavior. I was like, ‘Kylie, the first day I met you I was blackout drunk and fell asleep at the bar. This is part of the charm. This is part of the Jason Kelce charm. I wanna make my best first impression.’”

Not even statisticians know, but the scenario could play out Feb. 11 if Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and the Kansas City Chiefs win their playoff game this weekend.
Just about everything Swift goes near experiences a consumption boost, from donuts in Kansas City to hotels in Philadelphia. Her televised omnipresence at Chiefs games led to a 400% sales hike in Fanatics’ Kelce jerseys on a single day and an additional 2 million female viewers for Sunday Night Football in early October, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
So far, the NFL has proceeded cautiously with this new demographic, attempting to welcome Swifties without alienating football diehards with over-coverage. Rick Porter, who covers TV and ratings for THR, expects that strategy to continue for the big game. “They’ll probably try to keep walking that line,” he says, “and not make it the Taylor Swift Bowl.”
Should Kelce and the Chiefs (and Swift) make it to the Super Bowl, Porter predicts the hype-filled run-up week to spotlight their romance, as opposed to more conventional football drama about tight-end positioning, defensive formations or, say, Eminem. “Everything about Super Bowl week is over the top, so I’m sure on media day that everybody will get bombarded with questions about it,” he says. “It’s the line they have to walk between welcoming more people into the tent but not turning off any of the people who were there to watch and talk about the game.”
Could Super Bowl viewership increase? A Taylor Swift Effect, Porter says, could potentially bump the numbers from 115 million to 130 million — “or something ridiculous like that.” He adds, “That would be a pretty big shock, if something jumped that much from something that was already this big.” Still, unprecedented numbers are Swift’s specialty: Eras grossed more than $900 million last year, according to Billboard estimates, and is on its way to earn more than any tour ever.
