Tina Turner ‘Queen of Rock ‘N’ Roll’ Retrospective Album On the Way

The late Tina Turner will be celebrated on the upcoming retrospective compilation, Queen of Rock ‘N’ Roll, due out on Nov. 24 via Rhino Records. The 55-song set showcases Turner’s solo-billed singles from 1975 through 2020, including such Billboard Hot 100-charting hits as “What’s Love Got To Do With It” (a No. 1 from 1984), “The Best” and “We Don’t Need Another Hero (Thunderdome).” The Billboard chart-topping artist died on May 24 at age 83.

Included on the collection is a reworked version of Turner’s “Something Beautiful Remains,” retitled to “Something Beautiful.” It was remixed by Turner’s longtime collaborator Terry Britten, who co-wrote and produced the original version of the song, released in 1996.

The Queen of Rock ‘N’ Roll collection will be released via streaming services and as a five-vinyl LP box, a three-CD package, and a digital download album. An abbreviated 12-song version of the collection will simultaneously be issued on a single vinyl LP. All iterations of the album will include a foreword written by Bryan Adams. Turner and Adams scored a top 20-charting Hot 100 duet with “It’s Only Love,” released in 1985.

Queen of Rock ‘N’ Roll also helps salute the 50th anniversary of the launch of Turner’s solo career in 1974 with her first solo album, Tina Turns the Country On!, which was released while she was still part of the Ike & Tina Turner Revue. While that album missed Billboard’s charts and didn’t launch any singles, the following year saw Turner secure her first solo chart hits. The Acid Queen album reached No. 155 on the Billboard 200 in 1975 and No. 39 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums (then-named Soul LPs) rankings, and launched her first solo-billed hit song on Billboard’s charts: a cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love.” The single reached No. 61 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart (then-named Hot Soul Singles).

Included on Queen of Rock ‘N’ Roll are all of Turner’s post-Ike & Tina Turner Revue hits on the Hot 100 – 17 in total from 1984 through 1996. In addition, non-Hot 100 hits that charted on other key Billboard charts are represented, including “Afterglow,” “Cose Della Vita” (with Eros Ramazzotti), “Goldeneye,” “In Your Wildest Dreams” (featuring Barry White), “Look Me in the Heart,” “On Silent Wings,” “Open Arms,” “Tearing Us Apart” (with Eric Clapton), the 2020 remix of “What’s Love Got To Do With It” (with Kygo) and “When the Heartache Is Over.”

2023 People’s Choice Country Awards Performances Ranked

On Thursday night (Sept. 28), the Grand Ole Opry House hosted the inaugural, fan-powered People’s Choice Country Awards, hosted by Little Big Town.

The awards ceremony — which aimed to add a fourth major country music awards show to the annual country awards circuit — thrust many of today’s top crop of stars and timeless icons into the spotlight as the show aired live on NBC and Peacock.

Blake Shelton honored Toby Keith with the Country Icon award for his decades of writing and recording scores of hits such as “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” and “American Soldier,” as well as for his work supporting children and military veterans.

Meanwhile, Wynonna Judd was honored by the Brothers Osborne with the Country Champion award, for her advocacy for mental health and suicide prevention.

Morgan Wallen, Lainey Wilson and Jelly Roll were among the top honorees. Wallen earned the people’s artist of 2023, as well as the album of 2023 (for One Thing at a Time) and the concert tour of 2023 (for his One Night at a Time World Tour). Wilson won the female artist of 2023 as well as the collaboration song of 2023 (alongside Jelly Roll for their duet “Save Me”) and music video of the year (with HARDY for “wait in the truck”). In addition to the collaboration song of 2023, Jelly Roll was named the male artist of 2023, new artist of 2023, and his “Need a Favor” was named song of 2023. Dan+Shay was named the group/duo of 2023.

The PCCAs also offered unique categories, including social country star of 2023 (which went to Shelton) and the crossover song of 2023 (which went to the P!nk/Chris Stapleton collab “Just Say I’m Sorry”).

But as has become the norm for awards shows these days, it was the performances that gave the People’s Choice Country Awards some of the most impactful moments. Here, we rank the show’s performances, ending with what we considered the most impactful performance of the evening.

Feid Drops Eclectic New Album ‘MOR, No Le Temas A La Oscuridad’: Stream It Now

After weeks of teasing fans on social media, Feid officially unleashes his new studio album, MOR, No Le Temas A La Oscuridad, today (Sept. 29).

Translated to “Love, Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark,” the set’s title is a tribute to the renowned ‘90s Nickelodeon show “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” and its concept is meant to remind us that everyone shines in the darkness. On a personal level, Feid told Billboard earlier this year that its “whole concept has to do with how I went from being in the shadows as a composer to everything I am achieving now [as an artist].”

Home to 15 tracks, including the previously-released singles “Niña Bonita” with Sean Paul, “Vente Conmigo,” and “FERXXO 151” with Icon, which is rapidly gaining virality on TikTok, MOR is easily Feid’s most eclectic production yet.

The set kicks off with a chill, one-minute piano melody, where Ferxxo (his alter-ego) summarizes all the fame and success he’s living now. “I always wanted to sing/I never wanted to be a bad boy/I don’t like to show off but music has me living like a gangster,” he chants.

If his latest singles, including the Spanglish Afrobeat “Bubalu” with Nigerian artist Rema, are any indication, the Colombian artist is experimental as ever. This time around, he dabbles into electronic music (“Luces de Tecno”), futuristic perreo (“Romanticos de Lunes”), and lacing funk and indie-pop (“Privilegios”).

On other notable tracks, such as the Ryan Castro-assisted “Ritmos de Medallo” and “Hey Chory,” Feid (real name: Salomón Villada Hoyos) keeps his essence by singing romantic lyrics using his Medallo slang and distinct reggaeton sound.

MOR, No Le Temas A La Oscuridad follows Feliz Cumpleaños Ferxxo, Te Pirateamos el Album, which after being leaked online, peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart in 2022.

Feid is a confirmed speaker at the 2023 Billboard Latin Music Week, where he will be joined by his team in a panel called “The Marketing Of FERXXO.” Latin Music Week — the longest running and biggest Latin music industry gathering in the world — returns to Miami from Oct. 2 to 6, featuring star-studded panels, Q&A conversations, workshops and the En Vivo concert series. Jung Kook & Jack Harlow Team Up for ‘3D’: Stream It Now

Even though his Latto-assisted “Seven” is still dominating music charts around the world, Jung Kook already has his eyes set on his next smash hit. On Friday (Sept. 28), the BTS member unleashed “3D,” a brand new collaboration with Grammy-nominated “First Class” rapper Jack Harlow.

Over a funky instrumental that evokes Justin Timberlake’s “Señorita,” Jung Kook croons “I wanna see it / In motion, in 3D.” The song’s suggestive lyrics make it smart follow-up to the sultry “Seven,” in which he sings, “You know night aftеr night / I’ll be f—n’ you right.”

In an official note on Weverse, BIGHIT Music revealed: “Jung Kook’s second solo single, ‘3D (feat. Jack Harlow),’ is a pop-R&B track with clever expressions of feelings toward an unattainable person from the perspectives of first, second, and third dimensions.”

The new song marks the first collaboration between Jung Kook and Jack Harlow, but it isn’t the first musical release of the year for either artist. As a part of BTS, Jung Kook snatch an additional Billboard Hot 100 with “Take Two” (No. 48), which the group released as part of their 10-year anniversary celebrations. The K-pop phenoms also released “The Planet,” an original song for the Bastions soundtrack.

Back in April, Jack Harlow dropped Jackman, a completely solo 10-track record that housed the single “They Don’t Know It,” which peaked at No. 54 on the Hot 100. Jackman debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200, becoming Harlow’s third consecutive top 10 title on the chart. The “What’s Poppin” rapper is currently preparing to embark on his 3rd annual No Place Like Home Tour — a series of six shows across his home state of Kentucky.

“I don’t mind that the world spins faster, faster, faster / Just let me take you to a better place,” the boy band sings in the song’s breezy chorus. Ahead of the track’s release, JT took to Instagram to share a behind-the-scenes look of the group in the studio recording together. “So many stars aligned and that’s why I hit y’all and was like, ‘Hey, something came up,’” Timberlake is heard telling his former bandmates in the clip. “If we do this song, it’s a love letter to our fans. I would be honored to have the group on this song.”

The song marks *NSYNC’s first musical release since 2002 (when the Neptunes remix of “Girlfriend,” featuring Nelly, arrived) and it comes just weeks after the group stepped onstage together at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards to present the award for best pop to Taylor Swift for “Anti-Hero.” The group last took the VMAs stage in 2013, for Timberlake’s Video Vanguard Award medley performance.

“Last autumn, I found that my friends and I were going through so many life changes. After the heat of the summer, everything either calmed, settled, fell apart, came to a head or imploded,” Sheeran explained upon announcing the album. “When I went through a difficult time at the start of last year, writing songs helped me understand my feelings and come to terms with what was going on, and when I learned about my friend’s different situations, I wrote songs, some from their perspectives, some from mine, to capture how they and I viewed the world at that time. There were highs of falling in love and new friendships among lows of heartbreak, depression, loneliness and confusion.”

Sheeran went on to note that his father and brother introduced him to a composer named Elgar and his Enigma Variations album, which featured 14 compositions inspired by a different friend. “This is what inspired me to make this album,” he shared. “When I recorded Subtract with Aaron Dessner, we clicked immediately. We wrote and recorded non-stop and this album was born out of that partnership. I feel he has captured the feeling of autumn so wonderfully in his sonics and I hope everyone loves it as much as I do.”

Autumn Variations follows Sheeran’s Subtract, which debuted and peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 albums chart upon its release earlier this year.

2023 People’s Choice Country Awards: Snubs and Surprises

Jelly Roll, little known just a year ago, was the top winner at the inaugural People’s Choice Country Awards, with six awards from eight nominations. That was just one surprise at the show, which aired live Thursday (Sept. 28) on NBC and Peacock. Little Big Town hosted the show, which was held at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville.

Jelly Roll won the male artist of 2023, the new artist of 2023, the song of 2023 for “Need a Favor” and the collaboration song of 2023 for “Save Me,” a collab with Lainey Wilson. Jelly Roll won as both artist and co-writer on the two song awards, which both count double, giving him six awards in four categories.

Morgan Wallen, who went into the show with 11 nominations, more than anyone else, received three awards, including the top prize, the people’s artist of 2023. Wilson, who went into the show with seven nods, also received three awards.

The show also bestowed two honorary awards. Wynonna Judd received the Country Champion award, presented by Brothers Osborne. Toby Keith received the Country Icon Award, presented by his fellow Oklahoman Blake Shelton.

Little Big Town, Judd, Keith and Shelton performed on the show, as did Carly Pearce, Dan + Shay, HARDY, Jelly Roll, Kane Brown and Kelsea Ballerini.

Voting began when the nominations were announced on Aug. 16 and closed on Aug. 25.

Here are key snubs and surprises at the 2023 People’s Choice Country Awards, which is billed as “an award show for the people and by the people.”

Toby Keith Offers Health Update at People’s Choice Country Awards After Cancer Diagnosis: ‘You Just Have to Dig In’

“I’ve walked some dark hallways. Almighty’s riding shotgun. But I feel pretty good, you know? You have good days and bad days. It’s a little bit of a roller coaster. I’m doing a lot better than I was this time last year,” he told Extra on the red carpet. To keep strong, the 60-year-old star keeps it simple. “Just my faith. I’ve always rode with a prayer. As long as I have Him with me, I’m cool. You just have to dig in. You don’t have a choice.”

Keith revealed his diagnosis in June 2022. “Last fall I was diagnosed with stomach cancer,” Keith began his tweet. “I’ve spent the last 6 months receiving chemo, radiation and surgery. So far, so good. I need time to breathe, recover and relax.”

The singer added, “I am looking forward to spending time with my family. But I will see the fans sooner than later. I can’t wait.”

During the People’s Choice Country Awards, Keith performed “Don’t Let the Old Man In,” which he wrote for Clint Eastwood’s The Mule, but the song had a more harrowing feeling in light of the diagnosis. “And I knew all of my life / That someday it would end / Get up and go outside / Don’t let the old man in,” he sings on the reflective track.

Kelsea Ballerini Thinks Taylor Swift & Travis Kelce Are a ‘Vibe’

Kelsea Ballerini is on the Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce train.

“I love Travis. We did SNL together. I love Taylor. We were close for many years. I want happiness for everyone, so vibe,” the country star told Extra on the red carpet at the first People’s Choice Country Awards.

Ballerini was also discussed Swift’s rumored romance by Access Hollywood, with the interviewer asking, “Do you ship this?”

“I ship happiness!” Ballerini responded. “Whoever is happy with whoever is what I ship. I adore Taylor. I adore Travis. So if they’re happy, I ship it. Period.”

She also opened up a bit about her relationship with Outer Banks star Chase Stokes, noting that she attended the show solo because the actor is in Los Angeles. “He was here for rehearsals. It was his first time at the Opry, so it was fun showing him around when it was much calmer. He’s doing his thing and I’m doing mine.”

Ballerini also noted that Stokes is, in fact, a country fan. “He grew up in Georgia, so I got me a country boy, don’t worry,” she gushed.
