“Rich Baby Daddy” jumps from No. 3 to lead the chart dated Dec. 2. The song’s advance comes after a 24% spike in plays that made it the most-played song on U.S. monitored rhythmic radio stations in the week ending Nov. 23, according to Luminate. By reaching the summit in its sixth chart week, “Rich Baby Daddy” becomes Drake’s eighth leader to have wrapped its run to No. 1 in six weeks or less. Here’s a look at his quickest climbs to the penthouse among the 39 chart-toppers:

Weeks to No. 1, Song Title, Artist (if other than Drake), Date Reached No. 1

  • 4, “In My Feelings,” Aug. 11, 2018
  • 5, “God’s Plan,” March 3, 2018
  • 5, “Toosie Slide,” May 9, 2020
  • 6, “Work,” Rihanna featuring Drake, March 19, 2016
  • 6, “One Dance,” featuring Wizkid & Kyla, May 28, 2016
  • 6, “Nice for What,” May 26, 2018
  • 6, “Way 2 Sexy,” featuring Future & Young Thug, Oct. 23, 2021
  • 6, “Rich Baby Daddy,” featuring Sexyy Red & SZA, Dec. 2, 2023

As he banks his newest Rhythmic Airplay victory, Drake extends his record for the most champs among all artists. His latest, though, comes with a bonus. With 39 No. 1s, he now has at least three times as many leaders as every other act who has ever hit the top of the list — save for only Rihanna, who has 17 No. 1s. Here’s a look at the current leaderboard for the most No. 1s in Rhythmic Airplay history, which dates to October 1992:

  • 39, Drake
  • 17, Rihanna
  • 13, Bruno Mars
  • 13, Chris Brown
  • 13, The Weeknd
  • 13, Usher
  • 12, Beyoncé
  • 12, Lil Wayne

For Sexyy Red, “Rich Baby Daddy” secures the breakout rapper her first Rhythmic Airplay No. 1 with her third appearance. She previously landed hits on the radio ranking with two viral-turned-radio hits: “Pound Town 2” with Tay Keith and Nicki Minaj, which reached No. 19 in August, and “SkeeYee,” which repeats at its No. 13 peak for a second frame.

SZA, meanwhile, nabs her fifth Rhythmic Airplay champ and third of 2023, tying Drake and Ice Spice for the most this year. The R&B hitmaker first ruled the radio chart via a featured spot on Doja Cat’s two-week champ “Kiss Me More” in 2021. Between “Kiss Me More” and “Rich Baby Daddy,” SZA ruled with three of her own tracks: “I Hate U” (one week, 2021), “Kill Bill” (three weeks, 2023) and “Snooze” (two weeks, 2023).

“Rich Baby Daddy” appears on Drake’s latest studio album, For All the Dogs, which gave the superstar his 13th champ on all-genre Billboard 200 albums chart. Thanks to the arrival of a deluxe edition release with six new tracks, the set rallies from No. 4 to earn a second week at the summit on this week’s chart.

Tyla’s ‘Water’ Rises to No. 1 on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay Chart

Tyla takes over Billboard’s Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart as her breakthrough single, “Water” rises to No. 1 on the list dated Dec. 2. The track springs from No. 4 to crown the chart after a 14% surge in plays that made it the most played song on U.S. monitored mainstream R&B/hip-hop radio stations in the week ending Nov. 23, according to Luminate.

Through its double-digit gain, “Water” wins the Greatest Gainer honor, awarded each week to the song with the largest increase in plays among the chart’s 40 titles. As it reaches the summit, “Water” pushes Victoria Monet’s “On My Mama” to second place after two weeks in charge.

Thanks to “Water,” released on Fax Records/Epic Records, Epic Records returns to No. 1 on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay for the first time in just over a year. Future’s “Wait for U,” featuring Drake and Tems, was the label’s last leader, completing a record 16th week at No. 1 on the chart dated Oct. 29, 2022.

As “Water” reigns on the plays-based Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart, the radio smash repeats at a No. 5 high on the audience-based R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay list, which ranks songs by combined audience impression totals from adult R&B and mainstream R&B/hip-hop stations. There, “Water” added 14% in weekly audience to reach a new best of 15.8 million.

In addition to the R&B/hip-hop wins, “Water” flows 7-4 on Rhythmic Airplay, following a huge 27% increase in weekly plays at the format. Pop radio also has embraced the tune, with a 28-21 on the newest Pop Airplay list after a 41% hike in weekly plays. Armed with strong results from the R&B/hip-hop, rhythmic and pop sectors, “Water” is knocking on the door of the top 10 of the all-genre Radio Songs chart with a 17-11 ascent and 24% weekly improvement in audience to 38.4 million.

The rapid “Water” radio rise joins with the song’s growing sales and streaming profile to fuel the track’s high placements on several Billboard multimetric charts. Notably, the song wins a seventh week atop the sales and streaming-powered U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart, while also climbing the radio, sales and streaming-driven Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs (5-4) and Billboard Hot 100 (15-10) charts.

Cardi B Jams Out to Lady Gaga’s ‘Beautiful, Dirty Rich’ While Dressed in Her Holiday Finest

Cardi B is getting into the holiday spirit. In a pair of videos uploaded on Tuesday (Nov. 28), the “Bongos” rapper showed off what she called her “two moods,” showing off a pair of clips in which she grooves to Lady Gaga’s 2008 The Fame song “Beautiful, Dirty Rich” while rocking a voluminous red gown that showed off her legs.

The promo shoot for Cardi’s Whipshots alcohol-infused whip cream novelty found Cardi holding up a cup of the creamy libation and striking a series of poses as a person off-camera shouts out encouragement and suggestions for different looks. In the second video, Cardi stripped down to a red bodysuit and matching fur coat while waving around two cans of Whipshots as she rapped along to Lil Boosie’s “Set It Off.”

The video post came after Whipshots posted an image from its holiday flavors campaign earlier this week, which includes a festive peppermint flavor. In an Instagram post promoting the new products, the Whipshots account wrote, “The holidays are all about coming together and getting lit – and we’re not just talking about the Christmas tree, Fam. Elevate your celebrations with Whipshots Peppermint vodka whipped cream – the perfect stocking stuffer to bring the bougie to your holiday bash. (Besides, bringing a bottle of wine for your friends and family is so been there, drank that!).”

Cardi partnered with Starco Brands on the boozy non-dairy whipped cream in December 2021, which sold its first million cans in just 10 months, selling another million cans over the next four months.

How to Find Your 2023 Spotify Wrapped

‘Tis the season to learn about your music habits throughout the year with Spotify Wrapped, the annual breakdown of how you’ve been listening to music.

While Spotify Wrapped is available for anyone with an account, sometimes, it can be hard to find. Don’t worry, though, Billboard‘s got your back. Unlike last year, the 2023 Spotify Wrapped is not limited to only the Spotify mobile app, which you can download at Spotify.com/Wrapped as usual, and to make sure you have the latest version, which you’ll need to access Wrapped. The platform this year is making Wrapped available via desktop and mobile, also at Spotify.com/Wrapped.

Once you’ve logged in, your personalized look back at 2023 should appear at the top of your home screen. After watching and learning about your listening habits, you’ll be able to share your Wrapped results to social media.

In addition to being accessible via desktop and mobile, Spotify is rolling out a few new features for Wrapped this year, including:

  • Me in 2023 reveals what the platform calls the 12 “characters that best describe the way you listened to Spotify this year.” For example, the “Alchemist” is someone who created more playlists than others, while the “Shapeshifter” is a listener who jumps from artist to artist. Depending on listening habits, users will be revealed to be one of the characters.
  • Sound Town matches listeners to a city according to their “listening and shared artist affinity.”
  • Wrapped is getting a refresh, including how Top 5 Genres will appear “with a new sandwich-inspired design, while Top 5 Artists will show when “your listening peaked for each artist.”
  • Your Artist Messages in Wrapped is where users will find a video message from one of their top artists. (Listeners can also check out the Wrapped feed, where 40,000 artists — from Swift to Peso Pluma and SZA — will have video messages for fans.)

Lawyer For Young Thug Says Lyrics Told Stories, Not Actual Crimes

US-ENTERTAINMENT-JUSTICE-YOUNG THUG

Young Thug and his legal team delivered opening statements on Tuesday (November 28), with an attorney telling the court that the rapper’s lyrics are not evidence of crimes. Instead, the lawyer argued that the music told stories about the rough upbringing Young Thug experienced in the streets of Atlanta and not that of an assumed crime lord.

The RICO trial brought by the state of Georgia against Young Thug and over two dozeon other defendants connected to the alleged street operation YSL opened on Monday (November 27) with prosecutors stating that the rapper, born Jeffrey Williams, was the mastermind of a criminal organization.

As seen in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, attorney Brian Steel pushed back at the assertion that Thug’s success was tied to street crimes instead of his successful music career. Framing Thug’s humble upbringing in an Atlanta housing project as one of 11 children, Steel says that the music the rapper would go on to make was nothing more than him unpacking the things he saw as a young person.

Steel’s statements contrasted with those made by Fulton County’s chief deputy district attorney, Adriane Love, who referred to Young Thug under another name: King Slime. Love stated that as King Slime, Thug directed the YSL gang that, quote, “moved like a pack” under his leadership.

Judge Ural Glanville granted prosecutors passage to use 17 sets of lyrics from Thug in the trial to prove their case. Steel argues that the use of the lyrics is nothing more than artistic expression and a violation of free speech.

On X, formerly Twitter, fans are reacting to Young Thug and his current ordeal. Check out those replies below.

SEVENTEEN, NewJeans Are Top Winners at 2023 MAMA Awards

SEVENTEEN was the top winner at the 2023 MAMA Awards, which were held over two nights, Nov. 28 and 29, at Tokyo Dome, Japan. The group won five awards – album of the year for FML; best male group and best dance performance male group, both for “Super”; bibigo culture & style and worldwide fans’ choice.

SEVENTEEN was one of 10 winners in the latter category, along with ATEEZ, BTS, ENHYPEN, Lim Young Woong, NCT DREAM, Stray Kids, TOMORROW X TOGETHER, TWICE and ZEROBASEONE.

NewJeans was a close runner-up in total number of awards, with four – artist of the year and three awards for their hit “Ditto” – song of the year, best female group and best dance performance female group.

BTS, JISOO and ZEROBASEONE each won three awards. ATEEZ, Jung Kook and TREASURE each won two.

Jung Kook won both of his awards – best dance performance male solo and best collaboration – for “Seven” featuring Latto. The track was a global hit, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Awards were presented in more than 20 categories. There are the usual five or six nominees in most categories, but in the big four categories – artist, song and album of the year and worldwide fans’ choice – there are dozens of entries. All artists who were nominated in one of the subordinate categories were automatically nominated there — an unusual approach for an award show to take.

In the worldwide fans’ choice category, winners were determined by global fan votes. There were two rounds of voting on the K-culture platform Mnet Plus and on Spotify, which is also one of the sponsors for this year’s awards.

Jimin and Tomorrow X Together were the leading nominees for the 2023 MAMA Awards, which were announced Oct. 19. Each received eight nominations.

Jimin won best male artist, beating two fellow members of BTS – Jung Kook and V. The other nominees in the category were Lim Young Woong, Parc Jae Jung and TAEYANG.

The nominees for album of the year included three albums that topped the Billboard 200 in 2023: Tomorrow X Together’s The Name Chapter: Temptation, Stray Kids’ 5-STAR and NewJeans’ Get Up.

While many Western awards shows are moving toward gender-neutral categories, fully half of the 20 categories here are gendered. There are separate male and female categories for best artist, best group, best new artist, best dance performance solo and best dance performance group.

First-night performers included &TEAM, Dynamicduo, ENHYPEN, INI, JO1, JUST B, Kep1er, Lee Young Ji, STREET WOMAN FIGHTER 2, TOMORROW X TOGETHER, TVXQ!, xikers and Yoshiki.

In addition, JAEHYUN of BOYNEXTDOOR, HONG EUNCHAE of LE SSERAFIM, ANTON of RIIZE, CHOI HYUN SUK, YOSHI, HARUTO of TREASURE and ZHANG HAO of ZEROBASEONE appeared for special collaborations.

Second-night performers included ATEEZ, BOYNEXTDOOR, EL7Z UP, (G)I-DLE, LE SSERAFIM, Monika, NiziU, RIIZE, SEVENTEEN, TREASURE and ZEROBASEONE.

Also, XIAOTING of Kep1er and Bada Lee from STREET WOMAN FIGHTER 2 appeared on stage.

Videos of the performance can be watched on the official YouTube channel, Mnet K-POP.

The MAMA Awards, which bills itself as the world’s foremost K-pop awards, is presented by entertainment company CJ ENM. This year’s eligibility period ran from Oct. 22, 2022, through Sept. 30, 2023. The show aired live on various global platforms, including CJ ENM’s music channel Mnet.

Taylor Swift Drops ‘You’re Losing Me’ on Streaming to Celebrate Being Spotify’s Most Streamed Artist

There’s no more blank space anymore for this song! Taylor Swift was named Spotify‘s most streamed artist on Wednesday (Nov. 29), and to thank fans for the honor, she gave them what they’ve been asking for: “You’re Losing Me (From the Vault)” on streaming services.

“Um ok this is unreal?? I just wanted to say to anyone who listened to my music this year, anywhere in the world, thank you. Getting named Spotify’s Global Top Artist in 2023 is truly the best birthday/holiday gift you could’ve given me. We’ve seriously had THE MOST fun this year out there on tour and now this. Are you serious,” she wrote. “So I was trying to think of a way to thank you, and a lot of you have been asking me to put “You’re Losing Me (From the Vault)” on streaming… so here you go! You can finally listen EVERYWHERE now [kiss emoji]”

The track is off Midnights (The Late Night Edition), which is a special edition of the 2022 album released first to Swifties who attended the May 26, 2023, Eras Tour concert held at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Then later that night, Swift’s webstore released the digital download, which was available for 24 hours only.

“You’re Losing Me” is an emotional ballad set to a heartbeat, and details a slow, painful ending of a long romance. Fans surmised that the track is about Swift’s split from Joe Alwyn, her partner of six years; their breakup made headlines in April.

In the first verse, the 12-time Grammy winner sings, “You say, ‘I don’t understand’ and I say, ‘I know you don’t’/ We thought a cure would come through in time, now, I fear it won’t/ Remember lookin’ at this room, we loved it ’cause of the light/ Now, I just sit in the dark and wonder if it’s time.”

In the heart-wrenching bridge, Swift croons, “And I wouldn’t marry me either/ A pathological people pleaser/ Who only wanted you to see her/ And I’m fading, thinkin’/ Do something, babe, say something/ Lose something, babe, risk something/ Choose something, babe, I got nothing/ To believe, unless you’re choosing me.”

See Swift’s message to fans about her latest Spotify honor, and listen to “You’re Losing Me (From the Vault)” below:
