Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ Returns to No. 1 on Billboard Global Charts

Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” reclaims the crown on both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts (dated Dec. 9). The song dashes from No. 3 to No. 1 on the former and 8-1 on the latter.

‘Tis the season for other holiday hits in the charts’ top 10, as well, led by Wham!’s “Last Christmas,” which leaps 9-2 on the Global 200 and returns to the Global Excl. U.S. top 10 (15-3). Plus, Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” (17-4), Bobby Helms’ “Jingle Bell Rock” (24-6) and Ariana Grande’s “Santa Tell Me” (35-8) all make sleigh rides back to the Global 200’s top 10.

The Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts, which began in September 2020, rank songs based on streaming and sales activity culled from more than 200 territories around the world, as compiled by Luminate. The Global 200 is inclusive of worldwide data and the Global Excl. U.S. chart comprises data from territories excluding the United States.

Chart ranks are based on a weighted formula incorporating official-only streams on both subscription and ad-supported tiers of audio and video music services, as well as download sales, the latter of which reflect purchases from full-service digital music retailers from around the world, with sales from direct-to-consumer (D2C) sites excluded from the charts’ calculations.

Carey’s ‘Christmas’ Back Atop Global 200

Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” tops the Global 200 with 73.4 million streams (up 51%) and 6,000 sold (up 46%) worldwide Nov. 24-30. The song, originally released in 1994, has now spent 14 weeks at No. 1, following four weeks in both the 2020 and 2021 holiday seasons and five frames over last year’s holidays. Only Harry Styles’ “As It Was” has led longer: 15 weeks in 2022.

Wham!’s “Last Christmas” charges 9-2 on the Global 200 with 62.1 million streams (up 51%) and 4,000 sold (up 64%) worldwide. The song, from 1984, spends a seventh total week at its highpoint.

Jack Harlow’s “Lovin on Me” retreats to No. 3 from its No. 2 Global 200 best and Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” bounds 17-4 with 48.6 million streams (up 69%) and 3,000 sold (up 44%) worldwide. The 1958 chestnut reached No. 2 last holiday season.

Rounding out the Global 200’s top five, Tate McRae’s “Greedy” drops to No. 5 following two weeks at No. 1.

Two other carols again decorate the Global 200’s top 10: Bobby Helms’ “Jingle Bell Rock” (24-6) and Ariana Grande’s “Santa Tell Me” (35-8). The former, from 1957, drew 42.2 million streams (up 62%) worldwide in the tracking week, while the latter, released in 2014, logged 35.6 million (up 57%). The songs have hit Nos. 4 and 5, respectively, on the chart.

Carey Also No. 1 on Global Excl. U.S.

Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” concurrently revisits the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. apex, with 44.1 million streams (up 53%) and 3,000 sold (up 56%) worldwide Nov. 24-30. The song adds a ninth week at No. 1, following one week in the 2020 holiday season, three the next year and four last season.

Tate McRae’s “Greedy” descends to No. 2 a week after it hit No. 1 on Global Excl. U.S.; Wham!’s No. 2-peaking “Last Christmas” flies 15-3 (38.1 million streams, up 55%); Jung Kook’s “Seven,” featuring Latto, falls 2-4, following nine weeks at No. 1 beginning in July; and Iñigo Quintero’s “Si No Estás” slips 4-5, following two weeks on top in November.

The Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts (dated Dec. 9, 2023) will update on Billboard.com tomorrow (Dec. 5). For both charts, the top 100 titles are available to all readers on Billboard.com, while the complete 200-title rankings are visible on Billboard Pro, Billboard’s subscription-based service. Vanessa Hudgens Reportedly Ties the Knot With Professional Baseball Player Cole Tucker

It appears that wedding bells may be in order for Vanessa Hudgens and Cole Tucker! According to People, the High School Musical star and the professional baseball player, tied the knot in Tulum, Mexico.

Although both Hudgens, 34, and Tucker, 27, have yet to comment on the reports, photos of the Tick, Tick… Boom! star posing in a white dress made the rounds on X (formerly Twitter) over the weekend (Dec. 3). A post from former High School Musical co-star Monique Coleman added more fuel to the rumors; the Emmy-nominated host shared clips of a sunny beach on her Instagram Story, tagging her location as Tulum, Mexico.

Billboard has reached out to representatives for both Hudgens and Tucker for comment.

In a 2021 Drew Barrymore Show interview, Hudgens recounted how got in touch with Tucker after meeting him in a Zoom meditation group during the peak of COVID-19 lockdowns. “I fully just slid into his DMs and was like, ‘Hey it was nice to meet you,’” she said. “I think there’s no shame in making the first move. If you want it, why wait for someone else to give you what you want?”

On Valentine’s Day 2021 (Feb. 14), Hudgens made the couple Instagram official when she posted a sweep snap of them sharing a kiss. “It’s you, it’s me, it’s us. @cotuck ❤️???,” she captioned the post. By Feb. 9, 2023, the couple confirmed their engagement — again via Instagram — with a post captioned, “YES. We couldn’t be happier.”

News of Hudgens’ reported marriage closes a busy year for the multi-hyphenate. This year, she starred in the Lily Rabe-directed drama Downtown Owl, hosted the pre-show for the 95th Academy Awards and continued to prep for the forthcoming fourth installment of the Bad Boys franchise.

Vanessa Hudgens has earned 15 entries on the Billboard Hot 100, including the top 10 hits “Breaking Free” (No. 4) and “What Time Is It” (No. 6) from the High School Musical and High School Musical 2 soundtracks, respectively. On the Billboard 200, she has charted both of her solo studio albums: 2006’s V (No. 24) and 2008’s Identified (No. 23).

Last week’s No. 1 from Jack Harlow falls to No. 4. “Jingle Bell Rock” returns to it’s No. 3 peak. At No. 2 is Mariah Carey’s Christmas classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You” and, for the first time at No. 1, Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.”

New Old-Fashioned No. 1: Brenda Lee’s ‘Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree’ Tops Hot 100, 65 Years After Its Release

Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” rises 4-2 on the Hot 100, with across-the-board gains in streams (32.4 million, up 47%), airplay (21.5 million, up 38%) and sales (4,000, up 39%); it’s the chart’s second-greatest gainer in both streaming and airplay and earns the top Sales Gainer nod. With its 2019 coronation, Carey claimed her 19th Hot 100 No. 1, extending her mark for the most among soloists and moving to within one of The Beatles’ overall record 20. The single also reigns as the No. 1 hit on Billboard’s Greatest of All Time Holiday 100 Songs retrospective.

Jack Harlow’s “Lovin On Me” dips to No. 3 on the Hot 100, a week after it became his third No. 1. It claims the chart’s top Airplay Gainer award (29.9 million, up 44%), while also increasing in streams (25.1 million, up 6%). It concurrently tops the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs charts, which use the same methodology as the Hot 100, for a third week each.

Next up among holiday songs on the Hot 100, Bobby Helms’ “Jingle Bell Rock,” from 1957, gallops 12-4, one spot way from its best rank, with 27.6 million streams (up 55%) and 19.9 million in airplay audience (up 36%); Wham!’s “Last Christmas” jingles 13-5, led by 26.9 million streams (up 52%); and Burl Ives’ “A Holly Jolly Christmas” dashes 16-6 (26.2 million, up 61%). The latter two tracks, from 1984 and 1964, respectively, have both hit No. 4 highs to date.

Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer” falls 2-7 on the Hot 100, following four nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 beginning in October.

Doja Cat’s “Paint the Town Red” descends 3-8 on the Hot 100, after it led for three nonconsecutive weeks beginning in September – and becomes her first No. 1 on Radio Songs (65.8 million, down 1%).

SZA’s “Snooze” remains tucked in the Hot 100’s top 10, slipping 5-9, after reaching No. 2, as it leads the multi-metric Hot R&B Songs chart for an 18th week.

Rounding out the Hot 100’s top 10, Andy Williams’ “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” originally released in 1963, leaps 28-10, with 20 million in radio reach (up 26%). The late singer now sports a record span of 64 years and two months from his first week in the top 10 with “Lonely Street” in October 1959 through his latest frame. (Excluding holiday fare, The Beatles broke the record for the longest top 10 span last month: 59 years, nine months and three weeks, from “I Want To Hold Your Hand” in 1964 to the debut of their newly-released single “Now and Then.”)

Maná, Fuerza Regida, Alejandro Fernández and Junior H will headline La Onda, a packed two-day festival slated to take place June 1-2, 2024 at the Napa Valley Expo. The festival lineup also includes Farruko, Eslabon Armado, Café Tacvba, Los Ángeles Azules, Mon Laferte and more.

The new festival is the brainchild of Dave Graham‘s Latitude 38 — the Live Nation-backed company that produces the annual award-winning BottleRock festival in Napa — and Maná manager Jason Gardner. Graham, who grew up studying Spanish in school and only speaks Spanish in his home with his children, has long wanted to create an event for Napa Valley’s flourishing Hispanic community, which now makes up 41% of the population in the region.

“About 14 percent of BottleRock attendees are Latino and we’ve been for some time that they we want something for they can call their own,” says Graham, who led the booking efforts in collaboration with Gardner as well as Live Nation’s Jorge Garcia, Manuel Moran and Han Schafer.

La Ondo takes place the weekend following BottleRock and will provide a premium experience with two full days of music; regional Latin cuisine and specialty beverages; elevated, shaded lounges and viewing options; and immersive activations including a relaxing spa, dance club and silent disco.

“Jason kind of took me under his wings, so to speak, and Jorge and Hans and Manuel and those guys really helped me understand La Onda once I described what we wanted to be,” says Graham. “Everything from curat[ing] a lineup the right way to find support with Live Nation and making it feel authentic with the audience. We want the Latino community to feel part of La Onda and celebrated at the festival.”

Weekend/two-day and single-day festival tickets go on sale Friday (Dec. 8) at 10 a.m. PT at LaOndaFest.com. General Admission tickets begin at $169, GA + tickets begin at $219 and VIP tickets begin at $389. Weekend El Mirador tickets begin at $1,199 while weekend Diamante tickets begin at $3,299. Layaway plans for all ticket levels are available at the festival website.

Drake & Adonis Get Their Hair Braided For New NOCTA x Nike Campaign

For his latest NOCTA x Nike drop, Drake keeps the family close and tags in his son Adonis for an intimate campaign celebrating the Air Force 1 Low “Love You Forever.”

Along with showing off their fancy feet, the father-son duo also get their hair braided in the new photos, as Adonis poses in a Nike sweater. The new NOCTA campaign also features polaroids-style shots of Kehlani, Young Nudy, and Jonas Wood with their respective families. According to Hypebeast, the sneakers “feature premium leather uppers accented by redesigned perforated toe panels, and the North Stars motif embroidered at the left heel. Finishing up the design of the shoe are plastic alphabet and number beads, along with molded outsoles with miniature hearts.”

Last month, Kevin Durant was a featured model for Drake‘s NOCTA basketball collection. Durant and Drake’s brotherly relationship is well-documented. The two-time NBA champion recently received A&R credit for Drake’s For All The Dogs and earned an executive producer slot on the rapper’s latest Scary Hours edition.

As for Drake, For All The Dogs continues dominating the charts. Last week, the album rebounded and soared back to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 courtesy of the project’s Scary Hours edition. “You Broke My Heart” and “Evil Ways,” featuring J. Cole, debuted at Nos. 5 and 10, respectively, on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Those two entries further solidified Drake’s hold on his record for the most top 10s among all artists in the Hot R&B / Hip-Hop Songs department, as he leads the charge with 130.

Mariah Carey Is Determined to Have a Merry Christmas in 2023: ‘Last Year Wasn’t the Greatest’

Even the self-proclaimed Queen of Christmaas has a subpar holiday season every once in a while. But in 2023, Mariah Carey is determined for that not to be the case.

“Years? What are years? I’m unfamiliar with them,” the 54-year-old vocalist joked in her Monday (Dec. 4) digital cover story with People, adding that she prefers to live “Christmastime to Christmastime.”

“I’ve been looking forward to this Christmas for, like, the whole year,” she continued. “Since last year —because last year wasn’t the greatest. I’m thankful for them all, but it wasn’t my most fun version of Christmas ever.”

To make up for last year’s apparent dud, Carey has embarked on a 14-city “Merry Christmas One and All” tour, ending Dec. 17 with a finale show at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The five-time Grammy winner is famous for dominating the Christmas music market from year to year, mostly thanks to her evergreen hit “All I Want For Christmas Is You”; the 1994 hit ranks at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart dated Dec. 2 and has spent a collective 12 weeks at No. 1 over the years.

“I’ve been working day and night on this one,” Carey told the publication of her tour. “I’ll be doing songs I’ve never done before, some duets. I’ve got to keep some surprises.”

Her 12-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe, whom she shares with Nick Cannon, are coming on the road with her as featured performers. “Roc,” as Carey calls him, raps during “Here Comes Santa Claus,” while “Roe” duets with her mom on “Jesus Born on This Day.”

In between details about her favorite X-mas decorations, the “Obsessed” singer also opened up to the publication about not shying away from the “diva label. “I still define the word ‘diva’ the way it is in the dictionary,” she said. “It’s a successful singer, usually a soprano, typically in the opera field.”

“So many people that I know that are called ‘divas’ all the time, don’t take offense to it,” she added. “If someone’s like, ‘The diva, so-and-so.’ Who cares? Why is it a big deal? Just take it and be on your merry way.”
