Keri Hilson has expressed regret over dissing Beyoncé on 2009’s “Turnin Me On (Remix).” The R&B singer stopped by The Breakfast Club on Wednesday (April 9) when she clarified what exactly went down with the remix to her top 15 hit and reflected on how the detrimental situation impacted her career.

“It’s a regret,” she said matter-of-factly. “But not in the way people think. That’s a song I actually didn’t write. Those are not my words.”

When Hilson flew in for the studio session with producer Polow Da Don, whom she was signed to in a joint venture with Timbaland through Interscope Records at the time, he already had her impending verse penned by another writer (Ester Dean).

“Your vision cloudy if you think that you’re the best/ You can dance, she can sing/ But she need to move it to the left, left,” Hilson sings on the 2009 remix while referencing Beyoncé’s “Irreplaceable.”

“Automatically, I was like, ‘I’m not saying that,’” she said when she first heard the Bey-dissing verse. “That was my position. I’m an athlete. I am competitive. But I’m not nasty, I’m a finesse player. I don’t look at things like that.”

Hilson claims that Polow Da Don threatened to sabotage her career as her In A Perfect World.. debut album was yet to be released.

“I tried to fight him on it and I began writing my own,” she added. “But he — I want to be careful with the word I use — it was quite forceful… The mistake that I made was not continuing to fight. But I was in tears, I was crying, I was adamant that I did not want to do that.”

The “Knock You Down” singer continued: “My album wasn’t out yet, I was told it’s not coming out if you don’t do this. I was super young. I felt I had no choice. I’m still protecting everyone involved. I’ve been eating that for years.”

“Turnin Me On” featuring Lil Wayne reached No. 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 as her debut album peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200.

Ester Dean came forward and issued an apology on Wednesday (April 9) for penning Hilson’s verse on the “Turnin Me On” remix, which she called “childish.” She wrote: “I see how it hurt people, especially women, and I take full accountability.”

In 2021, Hilson had a weight lifted off her shoulders when the singer revealed that she had a positive conversation with Beyoncé surrounding the track and finally cleared the air.

“I feel like she understood what happened, what had transpired and there was a bit of healing in that moment when we met,” Hilson said to host Persia Nicole. “I take her as a very intuitive kind of soul, as am I. She’s amazing. I’ve always felt that way, that’s the truth of the matter, but no one will believe that.”

Hilson is entering a new era and coming off the release of her “Bae” single. Look for her We Need to Talk album to arrive on April 18.

Over the course of his first three albums, Morgan Wallen has notched Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hits and crafted projects with sprawling, 30-song-plus track lists. He’s notched hit collabs with Eric Church (“Man Made a Bar”), Post Malone (“I Had Some Help,” from Post’s F-1 Trillion album) and Ernest (“Cowgirls”). But he has yet to release a collaboration with a female artist.
That seems likely to change on his upcoming album, I’m the Problem, out May 16.

On X, Wallen responded to a comment from Patrick R Thomes, who wrote, “@MorganWallen, please, please, PLEASE confirm ‘What I Want’ is a duet. You haven’t yet sang with any female artists on any of your first three albums, so PLEASE tell me this is the case.”

Wallen responded simply, “Indeed sir,” seeming to confirm there will be a collaboration with a woman artist on the project, though Wallen offered no other details. Fans swarmed the comments section, speculating on the possibility of a range of artists, including Lainey Wilson, Ella Langley and Megan Moroney. Another name mentioned was Miranda Lambert, with whom Wallen co-wrote the One Thing at a Time standout “Thought You Should Know.” The pair performed the song together as a duet for the first (and so far only) time at Wallen’s Knoxville, Tennessee, concert in September.

During a previous story with Billboard in 2023, Wallen said that though he hadn’t released a coed duet yet, he had made attempts at such a collaboration, saying, “I’ve reached out to a couple of people, and they’ve turned me down. … I just really want certain people, and I haven’t gotten the chance to do it yet. I’m going to keep trying to write songs for it or write with them.”

He also added at the time that he “would love” to write with more women artists and songwriters, but noted that he most often revisited his “little squad” of frequent co-writers “because I’ve just been slammed, and when I’m not on the road, I’m spending time with my son or hunting. I haven’t really wanted to branch out much just because I needed to keep myself sane.”

Indeed, the writers on some of the songs he’s already released from the upcoming album — “Love Somebody” and “Lies Lies Lies” — are many of his longtime collaborators, including HARDY, Hunter Phelps, ERNEST, Ashley Gorley and Ryan Vojtesak.

The hitmakers continue to make their presence felt, taking up half the top 10 this week — “Darling” at No. 5, “Que Sera Sera” at No. 8, “Soranji” at No. 10 — and charting 18 songs in the top 100.

Sakanaction’s “Kaiju” drops a notch to No. 4. The previous record for longest consecutive run in the top 10 by the three-man, two-woman band led by frontman Ichiro Yamaguchi was seven weeks with “Shintakarajima,” and “Kaiju” has now tied this record. “Shintakarajima,” the band’s hit from 2019, has re-entered the Japan Hot 100 for the first time in about 4 years and 10 months, with streams up to 101% compared to the previous week, radio to 239%, and video to 104%.

The No. 1 song for the radio metric this week is BILLY BOO’s “Rhapsody,” featured as the ending theme song for the anime show The Dinner Table Detective, and the track debuts at No. 77 on the Japan Hot 100. Meanwhile, as songs about cherry blossoms continue to climb the charts, Aimyon’s “Sakura ga Furu Yoru wa” re-enters after a year with streams gaining by 111%, radio by 308%, karaoke by 107%, and video also showing increase from the week before.

Ava Max is leaning into the art of reverse psychology ahead of the release of her new music, which the singer cleverly teased via a fake petition posted online Wednesday (April 9).
The premise was simple: On her social media accounts, Max shared a photo of herself with her face half-painted in theatrical makeup along with a link to a website called “DontClickPlayOnAvaMax.com.” She also posted a picture of a roadside “Don’t Click Play on Ava Max” billboard.

Once on the site, visitors were shown a “Sign the Petition” button, which, upon being clicked, rather than taking people to an actual online petition, gave the option of listening to a snippet of Max’s new song via Apple Music, Spotify or email. On the unreleased track, the vocalist sings over an angelic swell of synths, “I don’t need nobody, I’m loving myself/ Tonight, it’s all about me, it’s good for my health/ I know how to please me, I don’t need no help/ Nobody can love me like I’m loving myself.”

The unorthodox promotional tactic comes about two months after the dance-pop star dropped her latest single, “Lost Your Faith,” which followed October’s “1 Wish.” Max last dropped an album in 2023, with sophomore effort Diamonds & Dancefloors debuting at No. 34 on the Billboard 200 — only after its release was delayed due to the musician struggling with people leaking her music, a problem she recently said she’s facing again.

“ok yes I have a lot of demos I’ve written that are not finalized records, and I’d appreciate it if you stop leaking these records,” she wrote on her Instagram Story in January. “A lot of records I write do not ever see the light of day and I understand your frustration, but this is not right. I write a lot of records I wish I could put out … I will find out who did this. Like I usually do. So plz Stop.” A

She added at the time, “I’ve never posted about this since the leak of my second album prematurely. Plz respect my art so I can keep working on making the songs I wanna put out that make sense for my project, and who I am perfect for you.”

Carlos Bautista, a music manager for artists including Omega and Chimbala, went to Jet Set nightclub on Monday night to watch his friend Rubby Pérez perform. He was standing near the stairs leading to the stage when the club’s roof collapsed. Both Bautista and his brother survived the tragedy. Here’s Bautista’s story, in his own words.
I’m a close friend of Rubby. I produced his last album, and we’ve worked together on business projects. I went to see him perform that night. I was standing near the stairs by the stage.

A piece of the roof fell onto the corner of the club, landed on a table, and shattered it. That’s when a hole appeared in the roof. People started recording it and looking at it, and within seconds, the entire roof caved in. At first, we thought it was a fight in the club because everyone started running, and we assumed it was some kind of altercation. But five seconds later, the roof collapsed. I was right there in front. I didn’t even have time to run. When I turned to leave, the roof fell on me — on my head, back, arms and knees. I was completely buried.

My brother and I were both trapped under the rubble. Nearby, there was a couple, and they managed to create a space and said, “Carlos, help me get out.” I’m a big guy — 6 feet tall and over 200 pounds — so I was able to move a chair, and they got out. My brother was still trapped, so I went to get help to get him out of the rubble. When things like this happen, you don’t really think about anything. While I was trapped, I thought about my mom, my family. I prayed to God, asking Him to let us make it out alive, but I also surrendered to His will. I was calm — 100% calm. But it wasn’t me; it was God who made that possible.

I never thought about dying. I was trapped for over an hour. I didn’t lose consciousness because I kept talking to my brother to keep him alert since he was on the verge of having a claustrophobic attack. Neither of us passed out. The people near me made space for us, and I was able to get out. I walked out barefoot because my shoes got stuck under the rubble. I was careful not to step on nails or anything sharp. I ran into someone my mom knows — a cop — and a firefighter. My brother had his phone with him and used the flashlight so they could find him and remove the debris to get him out. He was trapped for three to four hours. Rubby didn’t make it, and I think being trapped for so long is what ultimately took him.

When you’re in that kind of situation, your mind starts to wander, and it’s not easy to process what’s happening. At first, I thought it was an earthquake. But when I got out and saw everything was fine outside, I realized it wasn’t. What impacted me the most was seeing people outside desperately waiting for their loved ones to come out alive. That stayed with me — seeing their faces, knowing that most of the people trapped inside had already passed away. God had called them.

I live with my brother and my mom. She was at home and only found out what had happened when I called her from the hospital. My mom wakes up every day at 4 a.m. to pray, and I called her at that time to tell her not to worry when she woke up and realized I hadn’t come home. My brother spent the night in the hospital, but he’s here with me now. I didn’t break any bones, but my mind feels fractured after everything I saw. My heart feels broken because I’m human, and I feel the pain of others. I lost a lot of people I knew that night.

Life can change in an instant. I woke up this morning thanking God for giving me more time, for showing mercy to us, for not leaving my mom alone in this moment, for letting her keep her two sons. That’s just how I am — always calm, always composed. But I didn’t survive just because I’m calm. Everything is in God’s hands. I keep thinking about this phrase: “It wasn’t the universe, it was God. And it wasn’t random; it was part of His plan.”

Now that this has happened, I want humanity to take God’s existence more seriously. We’re seeing the signs of the end times, and God is real. I’ve always believed, but now even more so. I’ll continue to talk about His existence for the rest of my life. This doesn’t affect my career — not at all. I work in music, and I’m mentally prepared for whatever comes my way.

No offensive language will be tolerated on Celebrity Big Brother UK.
Mickey Rourke was issued a warning from the reality television series’ producers after a series of comments he made toward fellow competitor JoJo Siwa, according to BBC. During the 24th season, the actor asked Siwa if she liked “girls or boys,” to which the “Karma” singer explained that she’s attracted to women and that her partner Kath Ebbs is non-binary.

“If I stay longer than four days,” the 72-year-old then responded, “you won’t be gay anymore.”

Later in the series, when the cast mates were called to vote someone out of the house, Mickey explained that he’s “going to vote the lesbian out real quick,” to which Siwa — who overheard the comment, replied, “That’s homophobic, if that was your reasoning.” 

At one point in the series, Rourke said that he needed a “f–,” and gestured to the 21-year-old star and said, “I’m not talking to you.” When fellow competitor Chris Hughes called him out for the language, the actor said, “I know. I was talking about a cigarette.”

After using the slur, which is slang for a cigarette in the U.K., he was warned by the ITV series’ Big Brother about his actions in the confessional room. “Big Brother thinks your language was offensive and unacceptable,” he was told. “As a result, Big Brother is giving you a formal warning. Further language or behaviour of this nature could lead to you being removed from the Big Brother house.” 

Ultimately, the actor explained that he didn’t have “dishonorable intentions” and apologized to Siwa. “I want to apologize. I’ve got a habit of having a short fuse,” he told her. “And I don’t mean nothing by it. I do mean it [sorry]. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t say it to you.”

“I appreciate your apology,” she replied. Siwa has yet to publicly address the situation.
