Nick Cannon Calls This ’90s Throwback His Favorite Mariah Carey Song

Nick Cannon revealed the Mariah Carey song he loves the most in a new sit-down with Billboard News.

“She’s gon’ hate when I say this. She always thinks I’m joking when I say this: ‘Someday,’” he told Billboard‘s Tetris Kelly. “I probably play ‘Emotions’ more ’cause it’s just always a vibe, and me and Monroe love that song. ‘Someday,’ that was my record. You know, I remember her first single was ‘Vision of Love,’ obviously, and I was like, ‘Oh, that’s kinda cool,’ but it felt a little older for me. I think I was probably, like, 12 or whatever.

“And then the second single was ‘Someday,’” continued the Drumline star, who shares 11-year-old twins Monroe and Moroccan with the superstar. “And it was funny ’cause I remember my mom was like, ‘Oh, you like that cute little girl in the video’ or something. I was like, ‘No, I like the grown-up!’”

Cannon’s recollection is only slightly off — “Someday” was actually released as the third single off Mariah’s self-titled 1990 debut after “Love Takes Time” and instantly became the then-newcomer’s third consecutive No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100.

As far as more recent tracks by his ex-wife, the Wild ‘n Out host — who is launching his new Amp morning show The Daily Cannon with Abby De La Rosa, with whom he shares three children, on April 24 — chose deep cut “It’s a Wrap” off 2010’s Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel. “And that’s only because I produced that record,” he added of the song, which has recently exploded on streaming thanks to the Lambily’s viral “It’s a Wrap” challenge.

“It really is funny, the story behind that,” Cannon said. “I was in the studio at the crib, just messing around with some chords and going through samples and stuff like that. And [Carey] came in the room and started humming the ‘doo-doo-doo-doo-doo.’ And I was like, ‘Yo, that’s the joint!’ We were just playing around, I was like, ‘We should do a song about how if I came home hella late and you kickin’ me out the house.’ Cut to a decade later, everybody’s on TikTok doing the choreography and stuff to it.”

“Taylor Swift is an exceptional cook, and I love her,” the model revealed. “She also makes a really good bolognese sauce and a really good chili that I love.”

Hadid also added that cooking with friends helps her feel close to them. “When you have friends that really also care about those special moments and the more intimate spaces and what can really come from putting an effort into making the time for that, I think that that’s when you start to find the friends that you really connect with, because you’re both working towards manifesting those really special moments,” she shared.

The model is hardly the first person to compliment Swift’s culinary skills. Earlier this year, Paramore’s Hayley Williams gushed over the “Anti-Hero” singer’s cooking while chatting with Zane Lowe for an interview on Apple Music 1. “I remember when we were 19 and I was closer with Taylor Swift at that point because we both lived in Nashville, and we’re both experiencing our own versions of real success for the first time,” she recalled. “I went over to hang out. She’s a really good cook, by the way. She’s a really good cook. She has taught me how to make stuff that I did not retain at all.”

Rosalia Is Offering a Free Concert at Mexico City’s Famed Zocalo

As a part of her Motomami World Tour, Rosalía is returning to Mexico, where she will be offering a free concert at the capital’s Zócalo, the most important public square in the country, on April 28, according to Claudia Sheinbaum, head of the capital city’s government.

Sheinbaum made the announcement on Monday (April 10) on her TikTok account in a post in which, together with Mexico City’s Culture Secretary Claudia Curiel, she pretended to answer a call with the ring tone of “Motomami” and “Bizcochito.”

This will be Rosalía’s second concert in Mexico City in a month. The Spanish superstar performed on April 2 as one of the headlining acts at Festival Ceremonia in Parque Bicentenario, where she shared the stage with Travis Scott, M.I.A., Jamie XX, Tokischa, and Julieta Venegas, among others.

The Zócalo is a landmark full of symbolism where politics, social movements, culture and religion come together. It’s the third largest public square in the world, behind Tiananmen Square in Beijing and Red Square in Moscow. Musicians such as Paul McCartney, Roger Waters, Justin Bieber, Pixies, Manu Chao, Shakira, Café Tacvba and the late icon of regional Mexican music Vicente Fernández have performed at the coveted location.

The attendance record for free concerts held in the area, known as “Primer Cuadro” (or First Frame) of the Mexican capital is held by Grupo Firme, which last September brought together 280,000 people, according to Mexico City’s government figures.

Rosalía’s free concert is scheduled for 8 p.m. (Central Mexico Time) on Friday, April 28, authorities reported. Prior to her return to the Mexican capital, she will be performing at the two-weekend Coachella Festival in Indio, Calif., on April 15 and 22, as one of the top artists.

Translating his hits including “Kyle (I Found You)” and “Delilah (Pull Me Out of This)” to the format, Fred delivered a tight, often very pretty, characteristically emotive performance for which he taught himself to play the marimba, made a few live loops and generally tweaked his typical performance style to make it all work.

“I spent weeks practicing this and learning instruments I hadn’t played for years to try and make this as special as I possibly could,” the artist born Fred Gibson said in a press release. “EVVERRRYYYY thing you hear in this I play totally live. And there are some sounds I really couldn’t believe we were able to make like this.”

Fred does some singing himself, also teleporting collaborators into the room via a smaller version of the iPhone shaped screen used in his live shows.

“When Fred again.. first proposed a Tiny Desk concert, it wasn’t immediately clear how he was going to make it work — not because he lacked creativity, but because translating purely electronic music at the Desk is a daunting task for anyone,” Tiny Desk staffer Teresa Xie writes in the video’s caption. “How would an artist, whose performances take the form of DJ sets in front of massive audiences, curate an intimate and unique experience?

“But what the British songwriter and producer came up with is a reminder of what a Tiny Desk is at its best: an opportunity for artists to challenge themselves in such a way that it almost feels like they’re making new music, all while sticking to what feels true to them,” Xie continues. “For Fred again.. that meant re-learning the marimba, playing the vibraphone, singing at the piano and looping sounds and beats — all at the same time.”

Re-‘Born’: Lady Gaga’s ‘Bloody Mary’ Hits Top 10 on Pop Airplay Chart

Lady Gaga returns to the top 10 of Billboard’s Pop Airplay chart, rising to No. 10 on the list dated April 15 with her resurrected track “Bloody Mary.”

Originally released on the superstar’s 2011 album Born This Way, the song surged on TikTok sparked by the new Netflix Addams Family spin-off series Wednesday, despite the fact that the track isn’t actually featured in the show.

In the series, the titular character appears in a dance sequence soundtracked by The Cramps’ 1981 single “Goo Goo Muck.” Fans took the clip to TikTok but replaced “Goo Goo Muck” with a sped-up version of “Bloody Mary,” which then went viral. Lady Gaga herself participated in the trend by re-creating the dance. The song’s sped-up mix was subsequently included in Netflix’s promo for Wednesday’s forthcoming second season.

After debuting on Pop Airplay (Dec. 31, 2022), “Bloody Mary,” being promoted to top 40 radio by Interscope Records, completes a 16-week run up the chart to the top 10. Notably, it’s her first top 10 on the ranking, among 14 total, with no accompanying acts in nearly 10 years, since “Applause” hit No. 4 in November 2013.

Nearly 12 years after its May 2011 release, Born This Way, thus, generates its fourth Pop Airplay top 10, as “Bloody Mary” joins the title track, “The Edge of Glory” and “You and I.” Two other songs from the set reached the chart’s top 15 in 2011: second single “Judas” (No. 15) and fifth single “Marry the Night” (No. 14).

To date, “Bloody Mary” has drawn 401 million in all-format radio airplay audience and 166 million official on-demand streams and sold 92,000 downloads in the United States, according to Luminate.

“Bloody Mary” is among a wave of older songs scoring new life, likewise largely sparked by newfound virality on TikTok. Also in the latest Pop Airplay chart’s top 10, The Weeknd’s “Die for You,” from 2016 and recently remixed with Ariana Grande, ranks at No. 4, following two weeks at No. 1 in February, and Miguel’s “Sure Thing,” another song originally from 2011, jumps to No. 8 (up 25% in plays, good for the list’s Greatest Gainer award), becoming his first top 10 on the tally.

Tyler, the Creator Rules Hot Trending Songs Chart for Second Straight Week

For the second week in a row, Tyler, the Creator has the No. 1 song on Billboard’s Hot Trending Songs chart.

Billboard’s Hot Trending charts, powered by Twitter, track global music-related trends and conversations in real-time across Twitter, viewable over either the last 24 hours or past seven days. A weekly, 20-position version of the chart, covering activity from Friday through Thursday of each week, posts alongside Billboard’s other weekly charts on Billboard.com each Tuesday, with the latest tracking period running March 31-April 6.

The April 15-dated chart finds Tyler’s “Heaven to Me” at No. 1, followed by his “What a Day” at No. 2. Both songs are featured on the expanded version of Call Me If You Get Lost, titled Call Me If You Get Lost: The Estate Sale, which was released March 31.

A pair of other songs from the release hit the top 10: “Stuntman” featuring Vince Staples at No. 7, and “Wharf Talk” featuring A$AP Rocky at No. 8.

The April 8 tally featured “Dogtooth” at No. 1.

Concurrently, Call Me If You Get Lost shoots 137-3 on the Billboard 200 with 68,000 equivalent album units, a 617% boost, according to Luminate. A trio of songs from the album also reach the multimetric Billboard Hot 100, paced by “Dogtooth” (No. 33) and followed by “Sorry Not Sorry” (No. 48) and the aforementioned “Wharf Talk” (No. 89).

The top non-Tyler, the Creator song on Hot Trending Songs belongs to Vishal Dadlani and Payal Dev’s “Yentamma,”which bows at No. 3. Released April 4, the song is from the upcoming Hindi-language film Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, to be released April 21. It’s the second song from the film to reach the chart’s top three, following Salman Khan’s “Jee Rahe the Hum,” which hit No. 2 on the April 1 survey.

Music from Feid, Young Miko and Jimin also reach the top five.

BTS Exhibition ‘PROOF’ Headed to Los Angeles for Band’s 10th Anniversary

BTS EXHIBITION: Proof is headed to the U.S.! On Tuesday (April 11), HYBE, BigHit Music and Live Nation shared the news that the traveling exhibit will be opening in Los Angeles this spring to commemorate the K-pop group’s 10th anniversary.

Proof will take over the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica in May, following its successful, sold-out stops in both Seoul and Busan, South Korea last fall. A release teases that the exhibition will offer ARMY “an immersive visual journey that explores the members’ past, present, and future through photographs, videos, and experiential installations in a multi-room walkthrough experience.” Attendees will also have access to exclusive, limited-edition BTS merch.

“The most beautiful moments in everyday life/ The faint sound of music reaching around the door/ A familiar face in a crowd of strangers/ A flash of memory in the quiet moments of the day/ Some moments in life are made more special for being unremarkable/ A reminder of all the times that will remain in the past, everlasting and unchanged,” reads the teaser on the exhibit’s official website.

ARMY can register now through next Monday (April 17) for a chance to purchase tickets, but only those who receive a unique access code will be able to get access before any remaining tickets go on sale to the general public.

When it comes to the members’ recent solo activities, Jimin released his debut solo album FACE last month, making history as a the first South Korean solo act to score a No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 with his single “Like Crazy.” Next, Suga will step back into his Agust D moniker to drop his own solo album D-DAY on April 21.

Taylor Swift Steps Out in NYC For First Public Outing Since Joe Alwyn Breakup News & Fans Have Some Thoughts

Best believe she’s still bejeweled! Taylor Swift looked effortlessly glamorous stepping out in New York City Monday evening (April 10) to grab dinner, her first public outing since reports of her breakup from longterm boyfriend Joe Alwyn emerged over the weekend — and naturally, fans have thoughts on everything from the restaurant location to the pop star’s accessory choice.

Alongside frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff and his fiancée, actress Margaret Qualley, Swift was captured by paparazzi and fans exiting an Italian restaurant — reportedly Via Carota in West Village — wearing a sleek black top, jeans with a bedazzled butterfly-shaped cutout and heels. Already, there’s a lot to unpack as far as Swifties are concerned, starting with the fact that the “Anti-Hero” singer’s famous Cornelia Street apartment would have been just minutes away from her dinner spot.

Why does that matter? The building is the setting of Swift’s Lover track “Cornelia Street,” universally believed to be about the beginnings of her relationship with Alwyn, whom she dated for six years. “I hope I never lose you, hope it never ends/ I’d never walk Cornelia Street again/ That’s the kind of heartbreak time could never mend/ I’d never walk Cornelia Street again,” she sings on the track.

But wait, there’s more. Fans have also begun dissecting Swift’s night-out outfit; for instance, is the butterfly detail a clue that her self-titled debut album, which has a butterfly graphic design pattern on the cover, is the next “Taylor’s Version” re-recorded release?

The most contentiously debated part of the 12-time Grammy winner’s look, however, is her necklace, which is too fuzzy to see clearly in the photos taken of her Monday evening. Some fans are sure that the necklace is Swift’s famous “J” necklace, the one she sings about in Reputation track “Call It What You Want” (“I want to wear his initial on a chain round my neck…”). If that’s the case, believers argue, does that mean Alwyn and Swift are actually still together in spite of reports?

Others, however, think the necklace is just that: a necklace. “Its not the j necklace. Its much thinner,” tweeted one Swiftie detective, posting two photos for comparison.

Sting Is Bringing His My Songs World Tour to North America: Here Are the Dates

Sting‘s 2023 world tour is finally getting ready to touch down in North America. The Police singer announced on Tuesday (April 11) that he will be playing a series of dates across the United States and Canada starting in September.

The My Songs World Tour — which previously traveled to Asia, Africa and Australia earlier this year — will kick off in Toronto at the Budweiser Stage on Sept. 5, and will make stops in Boston, Phoenix, Vancouver, Los Angeles and more before concluding in Rogers, Ark., at the Walmart AMP on Oct. 12.

Members of Sting’s official fan club will be one of the first to score presale access to the tour starting on April 12 by visiting his website. Additional fan presale will roll out later through the week, with the tour’s general onsale starting on Friday, April 14, at 10 a.m. local time.

Jennifer Lopez Is a Dangerous Mom on a Mission in ‘The Mother’ Trailer

Netflix unveiled the first look at its new action movie The Mother starring Jennifer Lopez on Tuesday (April 11).

In the film, the superstar plays a deadly assassin living a solitary life in the Alaskan wilderness after giving birth to a daughter she was forced to give up. However, when big baddies played by Joseph Fiennes and Gael García Bernal kidnap the girl 12 years later in a bid for revenge, Lopez’s trained killer comes out of hiding to protect the one thing she loves most — even though the preteen doesn’t know she’s her mother.

“You’d burn down our entire world just for her?” Fiennes asks in a tense, snowy confrontation. Naturally, Lopez responds with a resolute “Yes” before a wild showdown in hand-to-hand combat ensues.

“I’m a killer … but I’m also a mother. And I will die protecting her,” she goes on to promise while shooting guns, racing snowmobiles, dodging explosions and even staring down a white wolf with blood dripping from its mouth.

The Mother will be released on the streamer just in time for Mother’s Day on May 12, and is quite the pivot from Lopez’s most recent roles in romantic comedies such as 2022’s Shotgun Wedding and Marry Me. In addition to Fiennes and García Bernal, the thriller also stars Omari Hardwick, Paul Raci, Lucy Paez, Jesse Garcia, Yvonne Senat Jones and more and was helmed by Niki Caro, who also directed Disney’s 2020 live-action adaptation of Mulan.
