The fact that this will be Anitta’s first bona fide tour outside Brazil may surprise fans, as the singer seems to be everywhere all at once. In 2022, she became the first female Brazilian act to perform at Coachella, and at the end of 2023 she headlined TikTok’s in the Mix, playing for 17,000 fans at Sloan Park in Mesa, AZ. She also closed out the year with her hit “Bellakeo” alongside Peso Pluma, which has spent 14 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 53.

The tour will follow the release of Anitta’s new album, Funk Generation, due out on April 26 via Republic Records/Universal Music Latin Entertainment.

Funk Generation follows Anitta’s three-track bundle, Funk Generation: A Favela Love Story, which was released in 2023 as a precursor to the new album.

The summer outing will feature support from Busta Rhymes, Ciara and Elliott’s longtime musical partner producer Timbaland. The poster for the tour features Missy, Busta and Ciara dressed in Mad Max-style futuristic leather outfits standing in front of a giant space ship.

“This is an incredible time in my life as I am experiencing so many milestone ‘firsts.’ Being the FIRST female Hip Hop artist to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and now going out on my FIRST headline tour,” Elliott said in a statement about the 24-city tour co-produced by Live Nation and Elliott’s longtime manager Mona Scott-Young. “Fans have been asking me to tour forever but I wanted to wait until I felt the time was right because I knew if I was ever going to do it, I had to do it big, and I had to do it with family! So get ready to be taken OUT OF THIS WORLD with me, Busta Rhymes, Ciara, and Timbaland! We can’t wait to share this experience with the fans!”

In keeping with Elliott’s legendarily out-there music videos, the tour announce was accompanied by a short teaser video helmed by another one of Missy’s frequent collaborators, director Dave Meyers. “In 2024, these three icons come together to show you something you’ve never seen before,” Elliott says in voiceover in the clip in which she, Busta and Ciara emerge from the spacecraft.

“Something not right,” Elliott says at one point as the shoot is interrupted by confusion. “This is not Earth!” That leads to Busta busting out a paper celestial map only to discover that he took a “wrong turn” at Mars, a revelation that makes Ciara short of breath. Missy then calls Timbaland on her old school brick cell phone to complain about Busta’s terrible sense of space direction.

In an additional statement about her client’s first-ever headlining tour, Scott-Young said, “Missy has always been an iconic groundbreaker and continuously pushes herself to be bolder and go where she has never been before – and surprisingly, one of those places is headlining her own tour! For decades, fans and peers worldwide have clamored for Missy to tour and they’re finally going to get what they’ve been asking for as she teams up with Ciara, Busta, and longtime partner-in-rhyme Timbaland, to deliver a start-to-finish, nonstop, high-octane, OUT OF THIS WORLD concert experience. This will be one for the books, so trust me, you don’t want to miss it!”

Tickets for the tour will go on sale first through a Verizon presale that kicks off on Tuesday (April 9) beginning at 10 a.m. local time through Thursday (April 11) at 10 p.m. local time; click here for more details. Following additional presales throughout the week, the general onsale for the tour will begin on Friday (April 12) at 10 a.m. local time here.

Megan Thee Stallion Preps For Hot Girl Summer Tour With Cheeky ‘IG After Dark’ Twerk Challenge Video

Megan Thee Stallion is not afraid of any ban. The “Sweetest Pie” rapper issued a bold challenge on Saturday (April 6) when she launched what she dubbed “IG after dark” with a provocative twerking video just weeks after the social media company reportedly warned her that the cheeky poster for the MC’s upcoming Hot Girl Summer tour might violate its community standards.

“IG after dark lol and nobody better not challenge me bc this the best ass on IG ? or if you think so tag me in your video ? stream WANNA BE,” Meg wrote alongside a video in which she shook her behind at the camera to the strains of her GloRilla collab “Wanna Be” while wearing barely there black shorts, furry boots, a t-shit and black beanie with rabbit ears.

By Sunday night, Meg had already posted a series of clips of fans who blew her away with their challenge videos, including one that elicited a “well damn” response from the star and another potential winner from Bad Girls Club alum Natalie Nunn.

Trending on Billboard

Meg’s challenge came after she said the poster for her upcoming Hot Girl Summer tour — in which she was seen in a magazine cover-like image laying on her stomach in a shallow pool while wearing a cheeky silver thong bikini — got flagged by Instagram for being too sexy for public viewing. “HOTTIESSS GET READY TO COME HAVE SOME FUN WITH ME AT THEE HOT GIRL SUMMER TOUR,” read the caption on the original post, which urged hotties to get their “outfits ready nowww!”

In a later Instagram Story, Meg posted a screenshot of what she described as a warning she reportedly got from the social media site telling her that the pic may have breached the site’s guidelines, which could lead to limits being put on her account. “Nooooo it’s just a lil cheek lol,” Megan reportedly commented.

Megan’s first-ever headlining tour will hit 31 cities and arenas in major markets, including Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Detroit, Boston, Memphis, Atlanta and Philadelphia, as well as the rapper’s Houston hometown. After the U.S. dates end with a June 22 show at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Megan will go international beginning on July 4 in Glasgow, Scotland, with additional shows in England, France, Germany, and Ireland.

Morgan Wallen Arrested on Felony Charges After Allegedly Throwing Chair From Roof of Nashville Bar

Morgan Wallen was arrested and jailed on Sunday night (April 7) in Nashville after the chart-topping country singer allegedly hurled a chair off the six-story roof of a popular bar on the city’s bustling Broadway street.

On Monday morning (April 8), Billboard received a statement from Wallen’s attorney, Worrick Robinson of Worrick Robinson Law, confirming the arrest. “At 10:53p Sunday evening Morgan Wallen was arrested in downtown Nashville for reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct. He is cooperating fully with authorities,” it read; at press time a spokesperson for Wallen, 30, confirmed that the singer had been released from jail.

According to WSMV, an arrest warrant revealed that Wallen was on the sixth story roof of Eric Church’s Chief’s Bar on Sunday night around 10:45 p.m. when witnesses said he picked up a chair and threw it over the roof. Two Metro Nashville Police Department officers were reportedly standing below on Broadway when the affidavit said the chair landed just three feet from them. Officers reportedly spoke with bar staff and witnesses and reviewed security footage to confirm Wallen’s alleged action. The incident took place during the opening weekend of Church’s bar.

According to WKRN, witnesses reportedly told officers that they were standing next to Wallen and saw him “pick up the chair, throw it over him, laughing afterward.”

Wallen was arrested and booked just after midnight and charged with three felony counts of reckless endangerment and one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct, posting a $15,250 bond to secure his release around 3:30 a.m. The incident came just days after Wallen kicked off his 2024 One Night at a Time tour. The singer’s next court date in the incident is May 3rd; he is slated to play Nashville’s Nissan Stadium on May 2nd and 3rd.

Garry Van Egmond, Legendary Australian Concert Promoter, Dies at 82

Garry Van Egmond, the veteran impresario behind some of the biggest tours in the history of Australia’s touring business, died Saturday morning (April 6) following complications of recent surgery. He was 82.

Based in Melbourne, Van Egmond was AC/DC’s promoter of choice for touring Australia and New Zealand, and, in 1986, he helmed Dire Straits’ record-smashing Brothers In Arms tour, a juggernaut that shifted more than 900,000 tickets when Australia’s population was just 14 million. More than 250,000 tickets for that Dire Straits tour were sold in Sydney alone.

Dire Straits’ national box-office bonanza was the all-time record holder for tickets sold on a single tour, holding the mark for more than 30 years, until Ed Sheeran’s 2018 Divide tour pushed past one million ticket sales in these parts.

Trending on Billboard

With over 50 years’ experience in live events, Van Egmond sold upwards of 35 million tickets across Australia, New Zealand, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Korea, Taiwan and Japan, according to a statement from TEG, which acquired the late entrepreneur’s company, Van Egmond Group, in 2020.

Van Egmond’s business also produced AC/DC’s 2010 Black Ice tour, which shifted more than 600,000 tickets across 11 Australian dates (and 760,000 tickets across Australia and New Zealand) and the rock legends’ Rock or Bust Australasia leg in 2015, which the company says sold 460,000 tickets across nine stadium dates in seven cities (five in Australia, two in New Zealand).

Across his career, Van Egmond produced the Jesus Christ Superstar arena tour, Riverdance’s The Show, plus tours by Billy Joel, Rod Stewart, INXS, Prince, Bette Midler, Dolly Parton and more.

“Today the entire TEG family expresses our sadness and mourns the loss of Garry Van Egmond,” comments TEG Group CEO Geoff Jones.

“Garry was not only a highly valued colleague but a thoroughly decent person, and a resounding talent with the highest integrity. His legacy will stand the test of time. Our thoughts are with Christo, Katie and his family through these difficult times.”

Garry is survived by his daughter Katie, son Christo and grandchildren Hugo and Saskia.

The TEG Van Egmond business will continue to be run by managing director Christo Van Egmond, who remembers his father as “a true gentleman in the business and was highly regarded and respected by artists, managers, agents, and everyone he worked with.” He says of his dad, “He was a superb mentor to me and I have enjoyed working with him for nearly 30 years. Over that time we have presented some amazing events in Australia, New Zealand and Asia. He was a fantastic father and friend to me and will be missed dearly by his family, friends, and colleagues.”

Dasha Brings Viral Hit ‘Austin’ to 2024 CMT Music Awards for Her First Visit to Namesake City

Dasha brought her viral hit “Austin” to the 2024 CMT Music Awards on Sunday night (April 7) — and she admitted that it was the first time she had ever been in the song’s namesake city.

The singer/songwriter gave the song its live television debut at Austin, Texas’ Moody Center, wearing double denim in a zip-up jean vest and daisy dukes with a bedazzled belt complete with a rhinestone D belt buckle. She was backed up by dancers wearing white shirts and camo or denim pants, and since one of the song’s biggest drivers has been its perfect line-dancing pace, it was fitting that Dasha and her dancers broke into a line dance mid-song to pay tribute to the song’s sudden success.

“Thank you to the CMTs for believing in me!” she said to wrap up the performance. “It’s my first time in Austin!”

Trending on Billboard

That last revelation might be a bit surprising to fans of the song, since the Texas town plays a pivotal role in the tune’s plot. “I made my way back to LA and that’s where you’ll be forgotten,” the California-born artist sings. “In 40 years, you’ll still be here, drunk, washed up in Austin.”

On the red carpet ahead of Sunday’s show, Dasha told Billboard News host Tetris Kelly, “Actually, this is my first time in Austin,” after he asked what about the city inspired her. “My first time in Austin is playing ‘Austin’ onstage at the CMTs!”

“Austin” is the first Billboard Hot 100 hit for Dasha, with the song peaking at No. 53 on this week’s chart. Over on Hot Country Songs, the song hits its No. 11 peak this week — and it also becomes her first Country Airplay hit, debuting at No. 54. Late last month, Billboard broke the news that the previously independent artist signed a label deal with Warner Records.

Morgan Wallen Reacts to Fans Booing at Taylor Swift Mention at Indianapolis Show

A comment Morgan Wallen made about Taylor Swift elicited boos from the crowd at a recent stop of his One Night at a Time Tour in Indianapolis.

The country star, playing back-to-back nights on April 4-5 at the Indiana city’s Lucas Oil Stadium, made a comment on stage that his show had set a record at the venue.

“They told me right before I walked on stage that this is the single most attended concert in the history of this building,” Wallen announced to cheers, as seen in a fan-filmed clip from the show below. “And that we’re the first people to do it two nights in a row, so thank you for making it possible for me to say that.”

“I’m gonna say that ’til Taylor Swift comes to town in the fall,” the singer quipped, predicting the likelihood of Swift breaking his attendance record when she brings The Eras Tour to Lucas Oil Stadium for three consecutive nights in November.

His comment about a fellow chart-topper with country roots seemed lighthearted enough, but some concertgoers could be heard loudly booing in response.

Trending on Billboard

“We ain’t gotta boo. We ain’t gotta boo,” Wallen quickly said, but then indicated he was thankful for his fans’ support. “I appreciate that. I know you all got my back though.”

While Wallen was on the road this week for the 2024 leg of his world tour, Swift’s on a short break from hers to focus on the April 19 release of her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department. With it arriving in less than a “Fortnight” — which happens to be the title of the Post Malone-assisted opening track of her new album — Swift is counting down the days until the new music is in the hands of fans. On Saturday (April 6), Swift took to an Instagram Story to share a clip of a typewriter writing, “13 days until THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT.”

See the short video of the Swift mention at Wallen’s concert below.

Emilia Kicks Off .mp3 Tour in Argentina With First of 10 Sold-Out Buenos Aires Dates

After two weeks of sharing social media snippets of rehearsals, vocal coaching, training and bits of her daily life, Emilia kicked off the first of 10 sold-out dates at the Movistar Arena in Buenos Aires on Saturday (April 6) as part of her .mp3 tour.

Dressed in pink, Emilia took the stage performing “Exclusive.mp3,” inviting fans to engage in a great night that included special guests, an elevated catwalk that allowed her to cross the entire arena to reach a secondary stage, three screens, four costume changes, 12 dancers and fireworks.

The set design followed the aesthetic line of her album .mp3, with pink and violet dominating the color scheme, and it was full of details that harked back to her teen years in the 2000s — with stuffed animals, microphones and even a desk to simulate her bedroom.

Trending on Billboard

Below are some highlights.

Women Open the Show

In a first for Argentina, an artist partnered with a platform to select all-female opening acts. In this case Emilia worked with Spotify EQUAL to choose five artists to open her concerts, strengthening her commitment to developing acts. Connie Isla was picked for the first two dates, and she will be followed by Yami Safdie, Clara Cava, Mora Navarro and Malena Villa.

One of 10 Sold-Out Dates

The concert was produced and promoted by Fenix Entertainment, and it is worth recalling that when tickets went on sale in December 2023, 10 dates sold out for the same venue, Buenos Aires’ Movistar Arena, in just 10 hours. Given the on-sale success, two more dates were added at the Vélez Sarsfield Stadium for Oct. 12 and 13. In Argentina, the tour will also go to different provinces, including Córdoba, Mendoza and Salta.

Getting Intimate With Fans

At one point during the concert, Emilia, while walking from one stage to another, took the opportunity to speak earnestly to the audience about her connection with women in the industry and her concerns over social media bullying. “I’m trying to find my own voice. I love seeing how those present identify with my music just as I identify with a lot of female artists that inspire me and that I love. But it also makes me so angry when they compare us. It’s exhausting,” she said, referring to constant social media comparisons with other female Argentine artists. “Too much is demanded of us standing here on stage. Enough comparing us. Rather, join with us,” said Emilia.

Duki and Other Guests

While Emilia performed at boyfriend Duki’s concert last year, this time he came to Emilia’s stage to perform “Como Si No Importara” together. It was an intimate moment in which she gave him a kiss and thanked him for “a healthy love.” Also present later were Tiago PZK and Nicki Nicole for “Una Foto” and Callejero Fino for “En La Intimidad.” Emilia also performed “Rápido Lento” with Tiago PZK, and ensemble track “Los Del Espacio” with FMK, Duki and Tiago PZK.

Emilia’s Parents Were in Attendance

Emotions ran high late in the show when Emilia could not hold back tears while performing “Guerrero.mp3,” a song dedicated to her father while he was sick. Fans in the crowd could see her father, visibly excited, sitting in the front row next to her mother. “I want to thank my dad for being my greatest inspiration and for being my example of courage. I love you,” the singer said.

C.J. Snare, Frontman of Firehouse, Dies at 64

C.J. Snare, the lead vocalist and a founding member of Firehouse, has died. He was 64.

The band shared the news of Snare’s passing on Sunday (April 7) in a statement on the official Firehouse Facebook page.

“Today is a sad day for Rock N Roll,” the message began. “It is with great sorrow we are letting the world know we have lost our brother: CJ Snare, the rock and roll warrior, lead vocalist, and a founding member of Firehouse.”

The statement says the singer — who was expected to return to touring this summer, following recovery from abdominal surgery Snare said was planned in the fall — “passed unexpectedly” at his home Friday night (April 5).

In October, Snare updated fans on Instagram that he’d underwent surgery, and that it was “time to recover and get back to the stage.”

On March 27, Snare wrote, “I’ll be back on stage with FireHouse before you know it. Health is first so making a FULL recovery before my return.”

Trending on Billboard

“We are all in complete shock with CJ’s untimely passing,” the group wrote on Saturday, highlighting Snare’s vocal talent and noting he’d been on the road with FireHouse “non-stop the past 34 years.”

After signing with Epic Records in 1989, Firehouse had two top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 in the early ’90s with power ballads “Love of a Lifetime” in 1991 and “When I Look Into Your Eyes” in 1992.

Firehouse’s statement on Snare’s death ended with condolences “to the entire Snare family, Katherine Little, friends, and all our beloved fans all over the world. ‘Reach for the Sky’ CJ! You will be forever missed by family, friends, fans and your band mates. You’re singing with the angels now.”
