Joe Budden, whose only hit single, “Pump It Up,” finally achieved Gold status in 2023, is weighing in on the current state of “girl Rap:—calling the fan-created sub-sector “over.”
During his most recent episode of the Joe Budden Podcast, the former Love & Hip Hop star called out “girl rappers” while sharing his disdain for the bars after Cardi B released her highly-anticipated song, “Like What.”
“Y’all ain’t gonna want to hear it from me, but the girl rapper wave is over. Just telling you what it is,” Budden said. “The cream rises to the top, so Latto shall remain; Flo Milli shall remain; Rapsody will always be there, but she wasn’t really a part of [that scene]. But all of that, ‘Go find a girl, send her to Columbia, get it done, put her in the studio with f*cking Mike WiLL [Made-It] or any one of them n-ggas’—all that planting the girl in the scene, getting the record and it taking off—that wave is over.”
Budden’s scorching hot take came on the heels of Cardi B’s “Like What (Freestyle),” in which during the show, he suggested that the Bronx-bred MC is “scared” to release her highly-anticipated album over fears of the potential backlash awaiting her.
“Cardi B is afraid, and I’m tired of just nobody saying it,” said Budden. “Cardi B is scared to come out, it don’t take this long to come out.”
While Budden made a few valid points regarding the carbon copy method currently being used by the industry across the board, asserting his opinion when women are dominating and their male counterparts are fighting for their lives and starving for mentors is disingenuous. The continued lack of true concern over the problematic messaging that pushes drug use, violence and misogyny toward women in music and male-only podcast spaces aimed at men is alarming.
It also has to be noted that as a former artist, to see Budden play into the attempt to divide women in Rap from their male counterparts is not only reductive but also divisive in a genre that women had a major hand in co-creating. Then to announce that female rappers are “done” as if you have authority in the space is not only asinine but also egregious because it’s not supported by any facts.
In 2021, Cardi B made history in early March, becoming the first female rapper to have five No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Two years after she won Best Rap Album at the 2019 Grammys. That same year, Megan Thee Stallion picked up three awards, including Best New Artist. Doja Cat and Chika each received Grammy nominations in different categories–during that time and since, the new school of male rappers were absent.
Even though she hasn’t released a full album since 2018, Cardi B has been consistently putting out music. Following the release of Invasion of Privacy, Cardi has dropped six Top 100 singles (“Please Me,” “Hot Sh-t,” “Up,” “Bongos,” “Tomorrow 2 (Remix)” and the highly-decorated single, “WAP”)—which is why Offset took to Instagram to post the caption: “Stop being scary and drop the album s–t goes crazy [fire emoji].”
Regardless of how you feel about the messaging of female artists, for the last five years, women have been leading the pack. When gun violence and drugs were taking out some of Rap’s biggest artists, women were stepping up and making a name for themselves by giving listeners an alternative to murder music. The emboldened sound, reminiscent of the glam girl rap Lil’ Kim created, ushered in a new wave of boss women who weren’t taking any mess—but that’s seemingly why Joey and his band of incels are upset.
To continue to use the “BBL” and “lipo” comments as a rule only for women when men are getting them too—we all saw Funk Flex live in action on the table bumping “CREAM.” Let’s not forget Kanye West and Drake (allegedly)—yet no public slander or mention of it while deducing women in the same genre are doing the same thing as gimmicks, doesn’t make sense. Especially when the gimmick being used on young men is to have “opps” or be drug kingpins and gang leaders.

The truth is, most of these men with opinions on women in anything need to find a young man to mentor and coach to sub-par-dom, because the whole trying to get clicks off of hating on someone who made it further than you thing is over.

Megan Thee Stallion is the hottest blerd on the planet.
The eighth annual Crunchyroll Anime Awards went down in Tokyo, Japan, on Saturday, March 2, celebrating the fan-favorite anime series, characters, and creators across streaming, film, and music.
Hip-Hop’s most famous anime fan, Megan Thee Stallion, was on hand and a presenter during the awards show. Of course, the Houston hottie understood the assignment, showing up to the awards show rocking a look inspired by JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.
Megan Thee Stallion closed out the award’s show, hitting the stage wearing a dress drawing inspiration directly from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure‘s Bruno Bucciarati.
The look features a corset complimented by a white leather dress with gold detailing, nails, and a jet-black bob.
The “HISS” crafter presented the “Anime of The Year Award” to one of her favorite anime, Jujutsu Kaisen.
Before the Anime Awards, Thee Stallion stepped out and showed off her Gojo Satoru-inspired drip for rehearsals.
The inspiration for the fit is the special-grade sorcerer and teacher from Jujutsu Kaisen. For the look, Thee Stallion rocked fang nails, like the ones she showed off before she hit the world with “HISS,” an icy platinum blonde wig with bangs, a cropped leather turtleneck jacket, matching low rise flared pants, and a blindfold.
She also wears two pairs of glasses in other shots to compliment the look.
Megan Thee Stallion continues to prove that her love and appreciation for anime and cosplay and how she introduces it into her stage swag and personal style is unmatched.
You can hit the gallery below to see why she is Blerd’s dream girl.

Drake is getting blasted on X, formerly Twitter, for showing online support for the currently incarcerated Tory Lanez. In an Instagram Story post, Drake calls for the freedom of Tory Lanez which has sparked a barrage of online criticism.
Drake, 37, shared an image of Tory Lanez to his Story feed with the words under the photo reading “3 You,” which many assume to be suggesting freedom for Lanez. Lanez, 31, was found guilty in 2022 of felony assault for shooting and injuring Megan Thee Stallion. In August of 2023, Lanez was officially sentenced to 10 years behind bars in connection to the matter.
Several Hip-Hop figures and fans on social media seemed to side with Lanez during his legal ordeal with Megan Thee Stallion, with many believing that the shooting incident never took place among other unproven yet heavily discussed theories.
There have also been shots taken via songs towards Megan Thee Stallion, including a perceived shot from Drake on the song “Circo Loco” from his joint album with 21 Savage, Her Loss. However, 21 Savage claims that the Canadian superstar was not pointing his verse in that direction.
Despite that clarification from the Atlanta rapper, some believe that Drizzy holds some manner of animosity towards women rappers and that his support of Tory Lanez qualifies those assumptions. We’ve got reactions from X below.

Jada Kingdom continues to try and mind her business as she leans further into her relationship with Pardison Fontaine. However, given Pardi’s famous ex-girlfriend, Megan Thee Stallion, fans are pulling out all the stops to compare the two women and are currently debating their twerking skills.
All of this is very strange behavior but walk with us slowly so that we can catch the readers up. A video from the top of the year featuring Pardison Fontaine with Jada Kingdom dancing has been clipped up next to a video of Megan Thee Stallion dancing.
A clip of the two artists was posted by @YSLONIKA on X, formerly Twitter, and has since gone viral with over 2 million views. Writing “Jada ate her up and she’s fuIIy dressed too,” the post suggests that Kingdom has the superior cheek situation to Hot Girl Meg although both women are beautiful in their own right.
This swiftly turned into the Jada Kingdom vs. Megan Thee Stallion twerking dance battle with some fans on X simply wondering why such a corny debate is kicking off and that we should just be enjoying the sights among other replies.
Kingdom was already in the crosshairs of Meg’s fanbase, The Hotties, after some connected bars from the “COBRA” single to her Jamaican counterpart while making her the target of infidelity rumors in connection to Pardi. Kingdom has since said she was not the woman Megan allegedly walked in on with Pardi and has not addressed the issue since.
On X, we’re watching the very odd debate play out. We’ve got the best reactions we could muster below.

The leader of the Hot Girl movement celebrated her “diss” track snaking its way to the top of Billboard’s Hot 100 chart this week, giving her first solo no.1 record.
She has no.1 songs before with the Cardi B-assisted “WAP” and Savage remix featuring Beyoncé.

Twerking & Henny
Back to Thee Stallion, keeping her word, she did hop on Instagram Live to celebrate and blessed her fans with some twerking and, for good measure, sipped Hennessy out of the bottle with a straw while teasing an unreleased record called “Toxic.”
On her subpar diss record, “Big Foot,” Nicki Minaj tried to clown the Houston rapper’s penchant for alcohol consumption by criticizing her for drinking alcohol from a bottle with a straw.
The Hotties were also happy about the accomplishment. You can see those reactions in the gallery below.

On Friday, (Feb. 2) Megan Thee Stallion and Warner Music Group announced that the Houston rap star entered a historic deal that will allow her to maintain her independence as a musician while also having access to the music company’s robust global services, ranging from radio promotion to worldwide marketing.
“This is the beginning of an exciting new chapter of my life and career,” Megan said, according to a press release. “I’m really focused on building an empire and growing as an entrepreneur, so I’m proud to take this next step in my journey and work with Max Lousada and the entire Warner Music Group team in this new capacity. I know we’re going to create history together.”
In the agreement, Meg will release music through Hot Girl Productions – her independent music and entertainment entity – and simultaneously work with Warner Music and its international affiliates.
She will also retain full creative control of her music releases along with the option to bring artists who are signed to her imprint into the WMG ecosystem.
“Meg is not just a superstar,” WMG Recorded Music CEO Max Lousada said in the release. “She’s an artistic force and a mogul in the making – authentic and unapologetic in defining her own unique place in the cultural landscape. So many relate to her remarkable story and have witnessed her come into her power on her own terms. At Warner, we’re creating an environment where original talents can explore both their creativity and entrepreneurialism, while building long-term careers. Following on her success with 300, we’re excited to continue our journey with Meg through this dynamic new partnership, with our global teams, infrastructure, and expertise supporting her every step of the way.”
The announcement was also celebrated by Meg’s management company, Roc Nation. The company’s CEO Desiree Perez wrote, “Megan continues to be an absolute trailblazer,” she added. “This new chapter with Warner Music Group will shift the landscape in the music industry and empower other independent artists to follow in her footsteps and claim their power. It’s also a testament to Max’s ability to reimagine the relationships that major music companies can engage in with independent artists.”
The deal comes after the superstar was recently appointed a brand ambassador for Planet Fitness starring in an ad and releasing a line of merch.
The superstar rapper is also at the top of the charts with her single “HISS,” which has already reached No. 1 on Apple Music’s Global charts, Spotify’s U.S. charts, iTunes and YouTube Trending within the past week of its release.
Megan stopped by Good Morning America last week and announced that she will soon release a new album and that she has a Hot Girl Summer tour on the way.
“Oh, we’re having the tour this year. The Hot Girl Sumer tour is going to be 2024, summertime,” the Houston rapper said during her GMA appearance. “I feel like I’ve never been able to be outside doing my own thing during the summer, since like 2019. So this is going to be the first time that I drop an album on time for the summer. I do want to give the hotties the Megan Thee Stallion experience.”

Nicki Minaj and her beef with Megan Thee Stallion has become quite a hot topic, and a recent chat with Joe Budden displayed the depths of that rift. Via Twitter Spaces, Nicki Minaj went on a rant targeting Megan Thee Stallion, suggesting that the Houston star was never shot among other jabs.
On Wednesday (Jan. 31), Nicki Minaj joined Joe Budden, who maintains a robust Twitter Spaces community, for a 40-minute chat with the unavoidable topic of Megan Thee Stallion at the center. At several points in the discussion, Minaj suggested that Megan was never shot by Tory Lanez and that Roc Nation and an entity she referred to as “the machine” is responsible for the issue between the women.
Minaj also shared that she believes social media users were being paid $250 to disparage her online, only to turn around and say they’re supporting her diss track “Bigfoot” and once more saying the so-called machine is behind all of this.
“This is a dialogue between me, the machine and a bunch of different machines having to come together constantly using different people. When one fails, let’s go somewhere else and try,” Minaj said.
Because of Minaj’s vocal tones and voice changes, some were suggesting, as they’ve done previously, that the Queens superstar has a substance abuse problem. However, Minaj claims she’s never done cocaine and even said she’s willing to be tested.
On Twitter, reactions to Nicki Minaj discussing Megan Thee Stallion with Joe Budden went wide. We’ve got a handful of them below.

Megan Thee Stallion is putting her head down and getting busy in 2024.
Fresh off the heels of her record “Hiss,” which got one rapper reacting for numerous days just off one bar, Megan Thee Stallion is keeping the momentum going and will be dropping a new album and going on tour.
Now on the independent tip, Megan Thee Stallion continues to strike while the iron is hot. She revealed to Good Morning America that she is prepping her third studio album and will hit the road for her Hot Girl Summer Tour later this year.
“Oh, we’ve having the tour this year. The Hot Girl Sumer tour is going to be 2024, summertime,” the Houston rapper said during her GMA appearance. “I feel like I’ve never been able to be outside doing my own thing during the summer, since like 2019. So this is going to be the first time that I drop an album on time for the summer. I do want to give the hotties the Megan Thee Stallion experience.
Megan Thee Stallion Dropped “Hiss” & Kept It Moving
Both the album and tour have no solid dates, but Thee Stallion already dropped two singles in “Cobra” and, most recently, the scathing record “Hiss.”
Speaking of “Hiss,” the news of her upcoming moves comes on the heels of her feud with Nicki Minaj. In the record, Megan Thee Stallion didn’t say Minaj’s name. Still, many believe her bar referencing Megan’s Law was a shot at the Queen’s rapper and her decision to marry Kenneth Petty, a convicted sex offender.
While Minaj has been hollering and pushing her diss track “Big Foot,” which landed with a thud as far as being a response record according to social media, don’t tell Minaj or her fans that Megan Thee Stallion has seemingly moved on and is just focusing on her next move.

A TikTok user defending Megan The Stallion in her rap feud with Nicki Minaj claims that Minaj’s fans doxxed him, threatening his life.
Over the weekend, social media was ablaze as Nicki Minaj publicly vented at length over a line in Megan Thee Stallion’s latest single “Hiss”. “These hoes don’t be mad at Megan, these hoes mad at Megan’s Law,” the three-time Grammy Award winner said, apparently referencing Kenneth Petty, Minaj’s husband since 2019 (Petty is a convicted sex offender).
Minaj took offense, making fun of the Houston native being shot in the foot by Tory Lanez in 2020 as well as insulting the rapper’s late mother in an Instagram live video on Friday (January 25). That didn’t sit well with Bela Delgado, a TikTok user who blasted the Pink Friday artist in a video.
The video caught the attention of Miraj’s fans known as the “Barbz” whom Delgado said have been harassing and threatening him. “Nicki Minaj fans are attempting to dox me, messaging family members as well as people who aren’t members of my family, sending them s–t — apparently they got somebody’s address,” he said in a video posted on Saturday (January 26). “I am sorry. I’m so sorry that I disrespected Nicki Minaj. I saw a lot of other people doing it; I thought I’d add my two cents.” He cited his autism in the apology, saying to his 1.4 million followers that “sometimes things come out a lot harsher” because he’s on the spectrum.
Delgado said in the now-deleted video that he felt Minaj was a “disgusting and reprehensible person by pretty much all metrics of basic humanity and common decency,” referencing that he was once a former supporter of hers. It changed “when she started intentionally surrounding herself with sex offenders,” referencing Petty & Jelani Miraj, Nicki’s brother who was convicted of raping his 11-year-old stepdaughter in 2015.
The back-and-forth between Nicki Minaj and the “Savage” rapper has gotten exceedingly ugly, as Minaj released a new song entitled “Bigfoot” which included lyrics previewed in her Instagram live video: “She like 6 foot, I call her big foot,” Minaj raps, before saying someone “fell off, I said get up on your good foot.” Minaj has also been spotted amplifying her fans’ posts on X, formerly Twitter. For her part, Megan Thee Stallion replied on her Instagram showing her doubled over in laughter covering her mouth as she previewed Minaj’s response to “Hiss”.

Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion have disrupted the Hip-Hop timeline in a major fashion, with the Queens veteran launching an all-out online assault on the Houston star. After the perceived shot from Megan Thee Stallion towards Nicki Minaj on “Hiss,” the Pink Friday 2 star fired back with the diss track “Bigfoot,” and fans are reacting.
As we previously reported, Megan Thee Stallion dropped her latest single, “Hiss,” last week as part of her return to the music scene, and one line in particular seemed to ruffle the feathers of Nicki Minaj.
The lyric in question reads, “These hoes don’t be mad at Megan, these hoes mad at Megan’s Law/I don’t really know what the problem is, but I guarantee y’all don’t want me to start,” which has been assumed to be about Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty and his past legal woes.
This, in turn, sparked Minaj to go on a days-long tirade on social media, egged on her legion of fans known as the “Barbz,” and things got ugly with MTS’ deceased parents being brought into the fray and mention of the shooting incident with Tory Lanez.
With “Bigfoot,” Minaj wasted little time addressing the line mentioned above from “Hiss” and continued to pile on the attacks in a song with all the current tea within.
From “Bigfoot”:
This lil’ beggin’ whore talkin’ ’bout Megan’s lawFor a free beat, you could hit Megan raw (Ooh)If you a ghost writer, Pardi in Megan jaw (Ooh-ooh)Shots thrown, but I still ain’t let Megan score (Tell ’em)Bad bitch, she like six foot (Ooh), I call her Big Foot (Brr-brr)The bitch fell off, I said, “Get up on your good foot” (Ah, ah)
Minaj ends the song by suggesting she. has more ammo in the tank for Megan should she want this beef to continue. As expected, the Barbz and the Hotties, which are MTS’ supporters, are at each other’s virtual throats and we’ve got all the reactions to “Bigfoot” below.
