Andra Day:
Eight years ago, Maren Morris and I were both honored here at the Billboard Women In Music. I received the Powerhouse Award and she was nominated for the Breakthrough Star and I am so happy to be back here to present Maren the Visionary Award in recognition of all that she’s accomplished since then.

Just a few of her achievements 22 Hot Country Songs entries, 12 Hot 100 hits, three Billboard Music Awards, two No. 1 albums on the Top Country Albums Chart and a Grammy for Best Solo Country Performance for “My Church,” not to mention multiple collaborations with noted artists such as Zedd and Grey on the hit single “The Middle” and forming the supergroup, the Highwomen. These are incredible numbers but what really adds up for all of her fans including me, is Maren’s powerful voice, both as an artist and as an advocate for underrepresented performers in country music.

Maren has worked tirelessly to lift up those around her who have yet to be embraced or heard by the mainstream, especially women, queer people and people of color. Not only does she have the vision to create music we love to listen to, she has the foresight to realize that this industry is better when it expands to be more inclusive. Congratulations to this year’s Billboard Women in Music Visionary award winner Maren Morris.

PinkPantheress Accepts Producer of the Year Award | Billboard Women In Music 2024

PinkPantheress accepts the Producer of the Year award at Billboard Women In Music 2024.

PinkPantheress:
Hi. To show my appreciation for this award, I think it’s important to mention my roots as a producer. I was at university in a dorm room — oh, my hearts beating really quickly — when I decided there was no way graduating university was going to make me happy in the long run. But I was simultaneously too shy to admit that I wanted to be a musician. Because of this, I had to make music in private and not tell anyone.

For my first year as an artist, I was anonymous. I never thought I’d be recognized as a producer, because I didn’t think I was really producing anything because I was writing and singing over drum and bass and jungle beats that were already known in great length in the U.K. Only as my music started to develop did I think of adding my own drums, my own keys, until I was making some beats from scratch. That’s when I finally felt comfortable calling myself a producer.

Oh, girl. OK, sorry, this is the last bit. It’s painful for all of us. Oh, God. Stop, guys, stop! Please! I’m shaking.

OK, as a woman of color in electronic music, specifically two-step, drum and bass, it’s taken a lot for the genre to be recognized on a wider scale. A lot of people didn’t expect me to look the way I did making the music I was making. And nobody, even now, people don’t want to take my music seriously, but I’m just happy that I have the opportunity to be recognized in this specific field by the Billboard Women in Music Awards.

I watched Rosalia get this last year and that’s my queen. So I’m just … and as much as this is an event for the women, the girlies tonight, I do need to give a shout-out to Mura Masa, who guided me with my musical direction and who deserves to be recognized for his influence through my music and to his own, so thank you everybody here!

Hello, everyone!

Talk about the power of dreams. This year’s Rising Star Award presented by Honda is going to someone who’s had a banger of a year: Victoria Monet just won three Grammy Awards, including best new artist, and her R&B smash “On My Momma” has spent two weeks at No. 1 on both the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay and mainstream R&B Hip-Hop Airplay charts.

If all she did was make magic on the stage, performing her own material, that would be enough to celebrate her rise, but Victoria is also a prolific songwriter for others. She’s written or co-written 30 Hot 100 charting songs in her career so far, including writing on two of Ariana Grande’s No. 1 hits, “Thank U, Next” and “7 Rings.”

But beyond all the impressive numbers and stats, she is — and I don’t just say stuff like this — she’s the kindest, sweetest human you’ll ever meet. Most amazingly of all, she’s reached the highest heights of her career thus far while being a mother to beautiful little Hazel, who’s also a Grammy winner now.

Victoria has done things on her own terms, mastering multiple aspects of the evolving music industry while entrusting and empowering those around her winning with her day one team. This is her moment, and I don’t think there’s anyone on the planet more deserving.

Get an Inside Look at Billboard’s Women in Music 2024

The 2024 Billboard Women in Music Awards brought the girl power to Los Angeles’ YouTube Theater on Wednesday night (March 6), where the biggest female stars gathered for a night of empowerment and celebration.

Karol G was this year’s Woman of the Year, marking a significant milestone for the Colombian superstar, as she is the first artist who primarily records in Spanish to claim the honor since the ceremony’s inauguration in 2007 — a testament to her unparalleled impact and influence in the industry.

“With her immense talent, Karol G has created a movement for women across the globe due to her empowering lyrics and inspiring confidence,” said Hannah Karp, Billboard’s editorial director, when Karol G was announced as the Woman of the Year honoree. “The release of her groundbreaking album Mañana Será Bonito has proven her a force to be reckoned with in both the English and Spanish charts. We are so excited to honor her as Woman of the Year.”

This year’s event featured performances from honorees Karol G as well as Charli XCX (Powerhouse), Maren Morris (Visionary), NewJeans (Group of the Year, presented by Coke Studio), Tems (Breakthrough), Victoria Monét (Rising Star, presented by Honda), Young Miko (Impact, presented by American Express) and Luísa Sonza (Global Force).

Beyond the amazing performances, the celebrities hung out backstage, where they posed for photos together and spent time hanging out.

Billboard Women in Music 2024: Photos From the Show

The 2024 Billboard Women in Music brought together today’s brightest female stars for a night of celebration at Los Angeles’ YouTube Theater on Wednesday night (March 6). The ceremony featured jaw-dropping performances as well as heartfelt speeches as the evening’s honorees accepted their awards.

“I’m super happy,” this year’s Woman of the Year, Karol G, told Billboard before the event on the red carpet. “It’s the most significant award or recognition that I can get in my life. I always fight a lot being a woman in this industry, and to have Woman of the Year is kind of crazy; it’s a lot of responsibility but it’s… I don’t know, Im super proud of my team, of my family, of the people that trusted me, of the women that worked so much.”

The superstar also took the stage to perform “Amguara” before accepting her honor. Powerhouse Charli XCX performed an unreleased track, Impact Award recipient Young Miko delivered a duet of “Curita” with Demi Lovato, Visionary Maren Morris stripped down her hit “Girls” during the ceremony, Group of the Year NewJeans mashed up “ETA” and “Super Shy,” Rising Star Victoria Monet took the stage to perform “On My Mama,” Breakthrough artist Tems took the stage showing off her power, and Global Force Luisa Sonza represented Brazil with her performance.

Other superstars who received awards but did not perform include Ice Spice (Hitmaker), Kylie Minogue (Icon), Michelle Jubelirer (Executive of the Year), PinkPantheress (Producer of the Year, presented by Bose), Sarah Geronimo (Global Force) and Annalisa (Global Force).

The 2024 Billboard Women in Music event took over YouTube Theater in Los Angeles, Calif., Wednesday night (March 6), with some of today’s biggest female stars coming together to uplift and celebrate one another.

Hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross, this year’s event featured performances from honorees Karol G (Woman of the Year), Charli XCX (Powerhouse), Maren Morris (Visionary), NewJeans (Group of the Year, presented by Coke Studio), Tems (Breakthrough), Victoria Monét (Rising Star, presented by Honda), Young Miko (Impact, presented by American Express) and Luísa Sonza (Global Force).

Non-performing honorees included Ice Spice (Hitmaker), Kylie Minogue (Icon), Michelle Jubelirer (Executive of the Year), PinkPantheress (Producer of the Year, presented by Bose), Sarah Geronimo (Global Force) and Annalisa (Global Force).

Katy Perry, Sofia Vergara, Andra Day, Sky Ferreira, Nelly Furtado, GloRilla, Ellie Goulding, JoJo, Coco Jones, Bebe Rexha, Saweetie and Lainey Wilson were also among this year’s countless star-studded attendees.

I like to be viewed as a strong woman and I think that’s what Billboard is basically saying.

Tetris Kelly:
Every year, Women in Music honor some of the best to ever do it and none more important than our Woman of the Year. Today we’re discussing a few of them, including the youngest to ever win. The girl power has never been stronger.

Katy Perry:
I was also a bit surprised because I thought my year was over.

Tetris Kelly:
2012 was the year Katy Perry wrapped up her California Dream Tour earned her seventh No. 1 song on the Hot 100 and took home Billboard’s Woman of the Year.

Katy Perry:
I don’t really like to call myself a role model for my fans, but I hope that I am an inspiration for them, especially young women.

Tetris Kelly:
In 2015, Lady Gaga ventured into jazz, acting and became Billboard’s Woman of the Year.

Lady Gaga:
What I really want to say is that it is really hard sometimes for women in music. It’s like a f–king boys club that we just can’t get into.

Tetris Kelly:
Giving an inspiring speech with a bit of humor.

Lady Gaga:
Sorry, Grandma.

But ultimately, keeping it real.

Four years later, Billy Eilish took home the honor, the same year she released her debut album.

Billie became the youngest artist to be named Woman of the Year

Kanye West & Ty Dolla $ign’s “Carnival” takes the No. 1 spot on the TikTok Billboard Top 50 chart for the first time.

We got a new leader on top of the charts, plus another track breaks into the top 10. Ye and Ty Dolla $ign’s “Carnival” takes the top spot on the TikTok Billboard Top 50 for the chart posting March 7. Users have been lip-syncing and posting tons of videos to the hit. Another rapper breaking into the top 10, 21 Savage’s “redrum” climbs to No. 8.

The song goes well with any kind of video and is not tied to any particular trend.

Two songs return to the top 10, Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things” at No. 7 and BossMan Dlow’s “Get In With Me” at No. 10.
