Divorce is never easy on the children. And when the two people splitting up are the most famous reality TV star in the world and one of the most well-known rappers on the planet — whose every move is dissected and chronicled by the tabloids — things get even stickier.
Kim Kardashian dives into that uncomfortable talk in a new GQ cover feature, in which she looks back at the lessons she learned from her father, O.J. Simpson attorney Robert Kardashian, and dissects how he still inspires her to this day.
Kardashian and her ex, Kanye West (who now goes by Ye) first filed for divorce in 2021, completing their split in November 2022 after marrying in 2014 and having four children together. The GQ piece explores how Kim’s approach to the split was informed by the difficult divorce Robert Kardashian went through with wife Kris Jenner, something eldest daughter Kourtney said she knew about through the couple’s “whisper arguing. My parents never fought my whole life, so it was traumatizing when they did,” she said.
Kim, then nine-years-old — around same age eldest daughter North is now — never heard their fights, though, and when they called in the girls for a family meeting she said she “felt it.” She remembered her parents being “open” with them about the divorce, something she said she’s tried to keep in mind for when her children might ask her about their parent’s split.
“Ultimately, what matters is that kids feel loved and heard,” she said. “You want to be sensitive because they’re just kids, and it’s hard to go through no matter what age. You have to make sure that you only go to a level that they can understand. It’s okay to show a vulnerable side. You never go to a negative side.”
That said, restraint doesn’t completely alleviate the emotional difficulty of divorce, which, in this case, was compounded by Ye’s 2022 public meltdown, in which the rapper went on a series of hateful antisemitic rants and disturbing public pronouncements about Nazis that effectively melted down his once formidable $1 billion music and fashion empire.
“Just because I know how to manage my stress well doesn’t mean that I don’t feel the emotions,” Kardashian said. “If I’m sad, of course I will cry and feel it.”
The writer asked Kardashian’s sisters and a longtime friend how she’s changed since the divorce and they all pointed to a renewed confidence. “Not that she wasn’t confident before,” said younger sister Khloé, “but it’s a different assurance that she has in herself. She knows she can do it on her own. She knows the power that she has within herself, as opposed to thinking the power was in someone else’s hands.”
Childhood friend Allison Statter added that Kim was “scared” to break up with Ye, “‘Cause deep down inside she wanted her family to stay together. And because she was like, ‘I don’t know what life is going to be like on the other side of this.’ I was just so proud of her.”
The piece also touches on how Kim was influenced to launch a men’s version of her SKIMS shapewear line by her dad’s sartorial taste and interest in menswear. “This man had style,” Kardashian said of her father, who exclusively wore Gucci when he began dating Kris Jenner.
He always wanted to look cool,” she said, remembering him coming in to visit her at the trendy Encino, CA store Body when she worked there as a teen. “Diesel was one of the brands we carried. They had a cool pair of jeans. They were wax-coated. My dad’s office was really close by, so he’d always stop in. He said, ‘I have to have those.’ I got them for him. He would wear them with just a black T-shirt and a loafer,” she recalled.
Her self-made dad’s entrepreneurial spirt, and insistence that his kids learn a work ethic, has been passed along to Kim’s kids. As an example, she says North sets up a lemonade stand at the end of their street most weeks and hangs out for hours, using a clever sliding-scale payment method: $2 for randos, but sometimes $20 for people she knows. “I’ll get calls from my friends saying she charged them $20 for a lemonade. She’ll grab their $20 and say, ‘I don’t have any change’,” Kardashian said.
Kim Kardashian once explained her reason for never inking her body by telling Wendy Williams in 2009 that she would never “put a bumper sticker on a Bentley.” As it turns out, though, she did slap one on years ago, but we just didn’t know it because it’s in an intimate place. On the latest […]
Kim Kardashian paid tribute to Smash Mouth in her own way on Wednesday (Sept. 6). In a pair of photos showing off her figure in a gold bikini, the reality star quoted one of the band’s most famous lyrics.
“All that glitters is gold,” she wrote in her caption on Twitter and Instagram, borrowing a line from “All Star” as a nod to the metallic shade of her swimwear.
The California rock band approved of the reference, retweeting Kim K’s post and adding: “only shooting stars.”
However, not everyone was happy about the Skims founder’s use of the song, which bowed at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1999. That’s because her post comes just two days after Smash Mouth’s frontman Steve Harwell passed away at 56 following some time spent in hospice; the singer was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, a disease of the heart muscle that strains the heart’s ability to deliver blood to the body, several years ago.
“Someone dies and you use their lyrics to post a thirst trap,” wrote one Instagram commenter on Kardashian’s post. “Low key tone deaf,” wrote another.
But according to comments on Smash Mouth’s tweet, Harwell actually would’ve been fine with Kim’s post. One fan wrote, “people saying ‘too soon’ really didn’t knew steve and it shows lol,” to which Smash Mouth’s account agreed with a 100% emoji.
Harwell’s death was announced Monday (Sept. 4) in a statement from Smash Mouth’s manager, Robert Hayes. “Steve Harwell passed away this morning September 4, 2023 at his home in Boise Idaho,” it read. “He was surrounded by family and friends and passed peacefully and comfortably.”
“Steve should be remembered for his unwavering focus and impassioned determination to reach the heights of pop stardom,” the statement continued. “And the fact that he achieved this near-impossible goal with very limited musical experience makes his accomplishments all the more remarkable.”

French Montana stopped by Billboard News to talk about the creation of his new film, For Khadija, the rise of Afrobeats, his thoughts on reality TV and more!
French Montana:Never follow people that got all the answers. Follow people that got all the questions. What up? What up? It’s your boy, French Montana, and you’re watching Billboard News!
Rania Aniftos:Hey, everybody! It’s Rania Aniftos with Billboard News, and I’m here with Grammy-nominated rapper and Billboard chart-topper French Montana. So we’re here to talk about such an incredible project that you’ve been working on and it’s finally going to see the light of day, For Khadija. An incredible documentary! Why was now the right time to tell such an intimate story?
French Montana:I’m about to put you on the story. See, I’m really from Africa. You know going through everything I went through in my career, I feel like it finally makes sense. It’s a story, beginning to end of a chapter. It was a chapter when my mother came here, sacrificed for us, and went back after 25 years. And it felt like that was like the closure of us coming, me struggling in the Bronx, not knowing English, being culture shock about the whole move that we made, my father and my mother, him leaving, us getting on welfare and struggling, then for me to be French Montana. My mother didn’t see her family for, like, 25 years.
Rania Aniftos:And it’s true. I mean, spotlighting immigrant voices in that way is so unique, especially when people might see you and they’re like, “Oh, he’s French Montana. What struggles could he have had?” But you have this whole incredible story leading up to this point.
French Montana:Exactly. It’s showing people all the hurdles and taking all the wounds. You know? One thing about the wounds, that’s where the light enters, showing people if you only work on sunny days, you’ll never reach your destination.

The Kardashian are back. Kim, Kourtney and Khloé Kardashian, along with younger sisters Kendall and Kylie Jenner and momager Kris, return for a third season of The Kardashians, premiering Thursday (May 25) on Hulu.
In the documentary-style reality series, the Kardashian-Jenner gang reveal truths behind the headlines, while offering a behind-the-scenes peek into their private lives. From relationship ups and downs to navigating “motherhood, coparenting and building their own empires,” audiences will get a candid look at what the Kardashians have been up to since the second season dropped last year.
Since the show’s premiere season, Kylie and Travis Scott welcomed a new baby, Kourtney and Travis Barker tied the knot, Khloe welcomed a baby boy via surrogate and Kim ended her relationship with Pete Davidson.
In episode one, Kim opens up to her mom about her divorce from Kanye West and the rapper’s public tirades against her. “I have to sit here and not say anything ever because I know one day my kids will appreciate that, and I know that is the best thing for them,” says the mom of four, who admitted to blasting West’s music in the car and pretending everything is fine in front of their kids. “I will be his biggest cheerleader forever and one day, [the kids] see for themselves.”
“The one that was supposed to protect me, and still does interviews saying they will be my ‘forever protector,’ is the one that is hurting me the most,” she continues. “He was the one that started a rumor that said I was hooking up with Drake, having an affair our whole marriage. He accused me of that publicly … I really can’t wrap my head around how he thinks he is a protector.”

Romance rumors about Bad Bunny and Kendall Jenner definitely won’t be dying down any time soon. As the 29-year-old Latin music megastar took over Coachella this weekend as one of the festival’s headliners, the 27-year-old Kardashians reality star was spotted at his side numerous times.

The pair were captured at several different moments throughout the weekend by onlooking fans. At one point, Benito — his mouth concealed by a checkered bandana — whispered something in Jenner’s ear. In a video taken after sunset, the “Me Porto Bonito” musician was filmed holding Jenner from behind as the couple swayed along to Frank Ocean’s Sunday night (April 16) set.
Two nights prior to that, Bad Bunny became Coachella’s first ever solo Latino musician to serve as a headliner, performing on the main stage Friday (April 14). Supporting him from the crowd during his history-making set was Jenner, filmed by fans dancing along to his biggest tracks.
Bad Bunny and the 818 Tequila founder have been stoking romance rumors since February, when they were seen at a restaurant with Justin and Hailey Bieber. Since then, they’ve been spotted spending time together, most recently trying out horseback riding during an outing in Hidden Hills, Calif.
It’s worth noting, though, that during his Weekend 1 performance, the Puerto Rican star took a moment to remind fans that what they see about his life on social media is only a fraction of the true story. “Humbly speaking, people think they know the lives of famous people, but they don’t,” he told his crowd.
“They don’t know what we feel, what we live through,” he continued. “They will never know what a heart can feel. Don’t believe everything you hear. You won’t get to know the real me through a video on Instagram, an interview or a TikTok.”

North West just made her Las Vegas debut. Over the weekend, the nine-year-old daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West joined Katy Perry onstage during the pop star’s Saturday (April 15) PLAY residency, showing off her moves for a mom-approved dance party with friends.

“I’m a huge fan of your TikTok,” Perry was captured telling North in videos posted afterward to Instagram Stories by Kardashian, who was photographed filming the moment proudly from the audience. “I’ve seen a couple of them that you’ve made. You’re a really good dancer, and I thought what better way to be a great dancer [than] to show the world your awesome dance moves?”
North agreed, but on one condition: “Can my friends come out with me?” she asked the “Firework” singer, who deliberated for a moment before giving the OK.
Three more little girls then ran onstage, including Gracie Teefey — North’s pal and frequent TikTok collaborator, and Selena Gomez’s nine-year-old little sister. The besties then joined Perry in getting down to an instrumental of the singer’s 2017 single “Swish Swish,” taking turns doing their best cartwheels.
After the show, Perry met up with the Skims founder backstage and the two posed for pictures with fellow guests of the night, Sia and Paris Hilton. “Honestly, I’m the biggest Katy Perry fan,” Kardashian told the musician in a clip Perry posted to Instagram. “I’m not just saying that ’cause you’re here.”
“If you’re a big fan, can I finally be a sister?” the American Idol judge asked Kardashian, who immediately accepted her into the family empire: “Katy! We don’t even have to change the initial!”

Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian had not one, not two, but three wedding ceremonies. And in their new Hulu special, ‘Til Death Do Us Part — which now has a release date and trailer — the couple will share behind-the-scenes footage from each one.
As announced Tuesday (April 4), the reality show will premiere Thursday, April 13, on the streaming service. In addition to the Blink-182 drummer and Kardashian’s weddings in Las Vegas and Santa Barbara, ‘Til Death Do Us Part will chronicle the pair’s big-budget, ultra glamorous tying of the knot in Portofino, Italy.
“This is our personal archive footage that we are sharing with the world,” the Poosh founder says in a short trailer for the show, before turning to ask Barker, “Can you believe we got married three times?”
“It’s like choosing a child,” the musician responds. “I can’t pick the best one.”
The trailer also features closeup shots of Kardashian’s romantic wedding gown along with clips of her famous sisters — Kim, Khloe, Kendall and Kylie — enjoying different moments from the couple’s big day. Barker’s daughter Alabama also makes an appearance in the trailer, as does his longtime collaborator and friend Machine Gun Kelly.
The final wedding took place in May 2022 at the seaside estate of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana (yes, that Dolce and Gabbana) in Portofino, with the pair surrounded by friends and family. It came a few months after Kardashian and Barker got engaged in October of 2021, previously going public with their relationship on Valentine’s Day that year.
