Inquiring minds want to know what exactly is up with Tyga and Avril Lavigne? Just days after the “Girlfriend” pop-punk singer and the rapper were spotted kissing at the Mugler X Hunter Schafer Party during Paris Fashion Week, it looks like Tyga has made their Paris match Instagram official.
In a pair of pics posted on Wednesday (March 8), Tyga is seen posing in an all-black leather outfit in an ornate ballroom, as well as walking down a hallway with Lavigne by his side, also rocking head-to-toe black leather and dark shades. The first snap depicts the couple side-by-side walking towards the camera, while a second shot captures them from the back, with Lavigne’s platinum blonde hair cascading down past her waist.
Tyga’s caption for the post from paris read “Shout out to Dallas…,” while Lavigne appeared to confirm that love was in the air by posting up three black heart emoji. The two also held hands on their way into the Mugler party, according to photos shared by TMZ. The publication previously reported about the duo eating dinner together at Nobu restaurant in Malibu, California.
The snogging comes in the wake of Lavigne’s split from producer/singer and fianceé Mod Sun, who addressed the issue on Instagram on Feb. 28. “In 1 week my entire life completely changed…I just know there’s a plan for it all. I’ll keep my head up + always listen to my heart, even when it feels broken,” he wrote alongside a carousel of photos and videos posted to his Instagram feed. His caption did not specifically mention Lavigne or the break-up, but Billboard confirmed it was about their relationship ending.
Lavigne, 38, announced her engagement to Mod Sun in an April 2022 Instagram post, revealing that he popped the big question in Paris just outside the Eiffel Tower. The “Sk8er Boi” singer was previously married to Sum 41 singer/guitarist Deryck Whibley for three years and Nickelback singer Chad Kroeger for two years. Tyga, 33, has a 10-year-old child (King Cairo) with his ex, Blac Chyna, and has been linked to Kylie Jenner, Iggy Azalea, Bella Poarch and Amina Blue, among others.
Check out Tyga’s post below.
On Tuesday, Ruff Ryders announced they would honor DMX’s legacy with a special “Ryde Out” event celebrating the second anniversary of his death. Slated for April 9 in New York City, the label will gather friends, family and fans “for a day full of food, fun, games and music.”

DMX was the go-to star for the revered East Coast label after a seismic debut in 1998. It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot and 1999’s Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood helped X earn hip-hop supremacy as he notched two Billboard 200 No. 1 albums within a one-year period. Later on in his decorated career, X netted three more chart-topping albums. After he died in 2021 from a heart attack at age 50, he earned a top 10 release with this posthumous effort EXODUS. The album debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200, and its standout collaboration “Bath Salts,” featuring Jay-Z and Nas, secured a Grammy nomination the following year for best rap song.
“He made music with raw passion,” recalled X’s Ruff Ryders cohort Swizz Beatz during the 2021 Billboard Music Awards. “He spoke to the streets, he spoke to the world, [and] he prayed for others before he could pray for himself. He loved others before he would love himself. His music is iconic magic to the world. Following Tupac, he is the second rapper to have two No. 1 albums in one year. His legacy will forever be remembered.”
Last month, Swizz Beatz connected with Lil Wayne for “Kan’t Nobody,” posthumously featuring DMX. See the Ruff Ryders’ post for their “Ryde Out” event below.
Whether you’re a world famous movie star, journalist, the president or a mega-platinum rapper, one thing most dads can all relate to is Lil Yachty‘s dilemma: his daughter is super uninterested in what he does for a living.
Now, keep in mind that Yachty’s baby girl is just one year old. But in the rapper-singer’s Billboard cover story written by Lyndsey Havens about his mind-bending psychedelic album Let’s Start Here, the proud papa says at the moment being a dad is the most important thing in his life.
Even though music comes in second to fatherhood, he joked that she “doesn’t really give a f–k” about his music… yet. “I haven’t played [this album] for her, but her mom plays her my old stuff,” he added. “The mother of my child is Dominican and Puerto Rican, so she loves Selena — she plays her a lot. [We watch] the Selena movie with Jennifer Lopez a s–t ton and a lot of Disney movie s–t, like Frozen, Lion King and that type of vibe.”
Who knows where the couple’s child will land when it comes to music taste? But if she’s anything like her dad it will likely be a very eclectic playlist. Let’s Start Here would be a great place for her to start given the big swings Yachty took on the rock-leaning album that features co-writes from indie darlings Mac DeMarco, Nick Hakim, Alex G and members of MGMT, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Chairlift.
“I did what I really wanted to do, which was create a body of work that reflected me,” said Yachty, 25, about breaking free from what he felt was the mumble rap/”bubble-gum trap” jail. “My idea was for this album to be a journey: Press play and fall into a void.”
“There’s a lot of kids who haven’t heard any of my references,” explained the artist born Miles McCollum in the hip-hop hotbed of Atlanta. “They don’t know anything about Bon Iver or Pink Floyd or Black Sabbath or James Brown. I wanted to show people a different side of me — and that I can do anything, most importantly.”
When you hear that Yachty recent influences include Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon, Frank Ocean’s Blonde and Tame Impala’s Currents you get a sense of the expansive musical world he wants to inhabit.
“I want to be Quincy Jones,” Yachty said. Last year, he co-produced a handful of tracks on the Drake and 21 Savage collaborative album Her Loss and he features on two Zack Bia tracks — one of which he produced — for Bia’s upcoming album. He’s also made hundreds of new songs already, including experiments with what he described as “electronic pop s–t.”
He also said he’s still eager to work with more artists outside of his (former) given genre, mentioning the Yeah Yeah Yeahs as a bucket list act and his dream of writing a ballad for Elton John. “I know I could write him a beautiful song,” he said, noting that he’s not closing the (t)rap door just yet.
“I would love to do a project with Tyler [The Creator],” he said of his fellow hip-hop shapeshifter. “He’s the reason I made this album. He’s the one who told me to do it, just go for it. He’s so confident and I have so much respect for him because he takes me seriously, and he always has.”
Lil Yachty, presented by Doritos, will perform at Billboard Presents The Stage at SXSW on March 16.
Penske Media Corp. is the largest shareholder of SXSW; its brands are official media partners of SXSW.
Justin Bieber was back on stage on Saturday (March 4) just days after canceling his Justice World Tour. Don Toliver posted footage of the pair sharing the stage at the star-studded 2023 Rolling Loud Festival in Los Angeles this weekend, during which Bieber joined the Houston MC for a collab on “Private Landing” from Toliver’s new Love Sick album.

Bouncing his way down the stage in a backwards ball cap, baggy jeans and tweed jacket, Bieber looked to be in fine form and good energy more than six months after he played his last full set at Rock in Rio in Sept. 2022. “KEEP Going!!!!! KEEP Going!!!! Let’ Go Justin,” Toliver captioned the brief clip in which the pair happily trade off vocals and rhymes as they shared what appeared to be a joint.
The surprise cameo came after Bieber appeared to cancel all 80 dates on his Justice World Tour with no explanation last week; at press time no tour dates were listed on Bieber’s official site and his spokesperson had not returned Billboard‘s request for comment. Last week Ticketmaster’s site listed all the 2023 Justice dates as canceled just as Bieber was slated to pick things up again with a March 2 date in Dublin.
In June, Bieber told fans that he would take a break from the road after one month of dates because of the effects of the neurological disorder Ramsay-Hunt Syndrome, which left his face partially paralyzed. “As a result of this illness, I was not able to complete the North American leg of the Justice Tour,” he wrote in a message to fans at the time. Bieber went on to explain that after taking some time to rest and consult with his family and doctors, he went ahead with the European leg of his tour.
“After getting off stage, the exhaustion overtook me and I realized that I need to make my health the priority right now,” he explained about how he felt after completing his Rock in Rio set in September. “So I’m going to take a break from touring for the time being. I’m going to be ok, but I need time to rest and get better.”
He got back on the stage a month later, but after just six shows he said he need to take a break again. The AEG Presents-promoted Justice tour was Bieber’s first global outing since the 2016-2017 Purpose World Tour. It was unclear at press time if Bieber’s tour cancelation was related to his recovery from Ramsay-Hunt.
James Blake and Kali Uchis also joined Toliver during his set on Saturday.

Police found “no evidence to support a shooting having occurred” inside the concert late Sunday (March 5) featuring rappers GloRilla and Finesse2tymes at the Main Street Armory, Rochester police Lt. Nicholas Adams said in a statement to ABC News. A 33-year-old woman died, and two people were in critical condition, the department said.
The Associated Press sent messages early Monday (March 6) seeking information from Rochester police and other authorities.
Six additional people were dropped off by private vehicle at hospitals with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, the Democrat & Chronicle newspaper reported.
Officers responded around 11 p.m. to initial reports of gunshots fired inside, Adams said, but later determined injuries weren’t consistent with gunshot wounds.
“The injuries appear to be as a result of a large crowd pushing towards the exits following accounts of individuals hearing what they believed to be gunshots,” Adams said. GloRilla responded to the incident after midnight in a tweet in which she wrote, “I’m just now hearing about what happened wtf,” followed by three crying emoji, adding “praying everybody is ok [four prayer hand emoji].”

J-Hope and J. Cole‘s collaboration “On the Street” has topped this week’s new music poll.
Music fans voted in a poll published Friday (March 3) on Billboard, choosing the BTS member’s meaningful team-up with the rap star as their favorite new music release of the past week.
“On the Street” brought in 80% of the vote, beating out new music from Nicki Minaj (“Red Ruby Da Sleeze”), Morgan Wallen (One Thing at a Time), Kali Uchis (Red Moon in Venus), Marshmello and Manuel Turizo (“El Merengue”), and others.
The pair’s hip-hop collab follow J-Hope’s many accomplishments as a solo artist in 2022, including his bold Jack in the Box project and his prominent Lollapalooza set. The BTS member uses the new single to express his gratitude toward the fans who helped make it all happen. Cole effortlessly slides on the beat, charismatic and confident alongside the K-pop star as he speaks of his own unique come-up story.
“On the Street” is particularly meaningful to J-Hope. While BTS has long shared their admiration for the North Carolina-raised rapper –revealing in 2013 their reinterpreted take on J. Cole’s “Born Sinner” with “Born Singer,” which was only officially released last year on Proof — J-Hope has always shared how Cole is one of his ultimate favorite singers.
“On the Street” is J-Hope’s first new solo song since hopping on “Rush Hour” with Korean R&B singer “Crush.” J. Cole dropped a surprise song in mid-January with “Procrastination (Broke),” acting as a thank you to producer Bvtman and “every producer out there cooking up and sharing their work with the world.”
Trailing behind Hope and Cole’s track on the fan-voted poll was Minaj’s latest track “Red Ruby Da Sleeze,” with nearly 12% of the vote. The new single follows her hit single “Super Freaky Girl,” which earned the Queen of Rap her first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in August 2022.

Nicki Minaj is officially launching her own record label.
The superstar rapper announced the big news during her Queen Radio show on Friday (March 3), revealing that the new label’s artist roster includes Nana Fofie, Tate Kobang, Rico Danna and London Hill.
“I have a record label now,” Minaj said, teasing that the company’s name will be revealed at a later date. “When I get behind an artist, y’all know how I do s— for people that’s not even signed to me. Imagine what I’ma do for the ones that’s signed.”
Minaj said that her longtime affiliate Patty Lauren (aka Patty Duke) will serve in an A&R role at the new label.
The Queen of Rap’s first single of 2023, “Red Ruby Da Sleeze,” dropped Friday through Young Money/Republic. It marks her first solo song since last year’s Billboard Hot 100-topping smash “Super Freaky Girl.”
On Friday’s Queen Radio show, Minaj told listeners that she was texting with Republic Records co-president Wendy Goldstein, who was encouraging her to make the label announcement during the program.
“I said, ‘Wendy, we got to do this big. I’m a female; you a female, mamma. You got to do this right. We gotta do it right. I don’t want no little itty-bitty ting ting. I want to do it right,’” the rapper said.
Minaj added that her new record label will feature a variety of musical acts. “Don’t think my label is just rap, or Black, or anything,” she said. “We got some other genres of music.”
Minaj also touched on the influential role Lil Wayne played early in her career, and how she hopes to do the same for up-and-coming artists on her label.
“When I came in this game I didn’t have no paperwork with Lil Wayne. But he had us on tour, he had us in a studio, he was getting on my mixtapes,” she said. “So I understand the importance of having somebody else doing the heavy lifting for you. I understand why people are coming out and they’re so, you know, microwaveable and they’re here today and gone tomorrow, because there’s no structure. There’s no real person that believes in them. That’s like, ‘Nah, I’m gonna make it my business to see you shine.’”

With clever wordplay, a quirky sense of humor and an imaginative way of utilizing samples, De La Soul have long been celebrated as one of the most creative, influential groups in hip-hop.
However, throughout the lifetime of digital music streaming, the first six albums created by Posdnuos, Trugoy the Dove and Maseo have been more-or-less unavailable thanks to sample clearance issues and various other industry hurdles.
Finally, in the summer of 2021, that began to change. Rights to the Long Island trio’s former label Tommy Boy were acquired by Reservoir Media – and after that, it was a matter of time before the group retrieved their masters.
Now, those first six albums are finally available for public consumption in the digital domain. Unfortunately, the long-overdue campaign transpires as De La Soul copes with the Feb. 12, 2023, death of Trugoy (born David Jude Jolicoeur) at 54. A cruel twist of fate, but the newfound availability of their catalog will no doubt only punctuate the importance he had on the hip-hop landscape.
The newly available sextet of albums consists of the trio’s classic 1989 debut 3 Feet High and Rising; its follow-up 1991 masterpiece De La Soul Is Dead; 1993’s jazzy Buhloone Mindstate; 1996’s rugged Stakes Is High, 2000’s Art Official Intelligence: Mosaic Thump; and 2001’s AOI: Bionix.
These albums join the trio’s more recent albums – including 2004’s The Grind Date and 2016’s And The Anonymous Nobody… — on Spotify, Tidal, Apple Music and the like, giving a brand new generation of music fans the opportunity to discover the humor, intelligence and poignancy De La Soul brought to the table for decades.
But if you’re not already a De La diehard, where do you start in their catalog to best absorb the essence of the knowledge kicked by the Plugs? Most everyone somewhat familiar with the group knows their biggest hit, “Me Myself and I,” which peaked at No. 1 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart in 1989 and reached the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100. And while the tune is a perfect conduit into the heart of hip-hop’s Daisy Age, De La Soul have so many classic jams that it’s unfair for them to be defined strictly by their biggest hit.
For better acuity, Billboard has selected 10 additional De La Soul cuts that stand as the trio’s finest works on wax to wit. Rest in Peace, Dave.
“Royalty Capes” (2016)
After a 12-year break between albums (although the period did see them collaborate with the Gorillaz on the top 20 Hot 100 hit “Feel Good Inc.”), De La returned in 2016 with And The Anonymous Nobody…. Lead single “Royalty Capes” let everyone know they were back for their flowers, with majestic trumpets announcing the trio’s return. Adding further gravitas is the song’s video, which is prefaced by Dave detailing his congestive heart failure diagnosis.
“Rock Co.Kane Flow” feat. MF Doom (2004)
We should be thankful we got at least one De La/DOOM banger while MF Doom and Trugoy still walked among us. On this song from 2004’s The Grind Date, the Supervillain and the Plugs tear up a hallelujah beat by Seattle’s Jake One. Before this song, the closest Doom and De La ever got to collaborating was when 3rd Bass’ “The Gas Face” (the recording debut of Doom) was sampled for the De La Soul track “Oodles of O’s” more than a decade earlier. Listen here.
“Trying People” (2001)
The final track on the second installment of the intended AOI trilogy is hip-hop at its most emotional. Few emcees could invoke such weight like Trugoy, who rapped in the same key of sincerity that the likes of Billy Joel and Paul Simon sang in. And on “Trying People,” he lets us in like never before as he admits: “Years just blow by /My eyes stay fixed but the picture’s kinda outta focus / I cry a lot but admit to it / Enjoyin’ life now but I’ve been through it.” Exhibiting this kind of vulnerability was practically unheard of in the rap game at the time. But the honesty Trugoy displayed on this song no doubt opened the doors for acts like Lil Wayne and Kendrick Lamar. Listen here.
“All Good?” feat. Chaka Khan (2000)
In contrast to Dave’s lament about R&B singers over BS tracks on “Stakes Is High,” De La Soul recruited genuine soul royalty in 2000 with Chaka Khan singing the hook for this successful single off the trio’s fifth album Art Official Intelligence: Mosaic Thump. Despite its pessimistic chorus, the song itself found Pos and Trugoy in top lyrical form as Ms. Khan cruises inside a funky De La beat. “All Good?” also brought the group some chart action, reaching No. 96 on the Hot 100, No. 6 on Hot Rap Songs and No. 41 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Listen here.
“Stakes Is High” (1996)
One of Dove’s hottest moments on the mic was his indelible list of grievances in the second verse of the J Dilla-kissed title cut to De La’s 1996 classic Stakes Is High. “I’m sick of R&B b-tches over bullsh-t tracks, cocaine and crack that brings sickness to Blacks,” he laments over a reverberating horn blast plucked from the 1974 Ahmad Jamal song “Swahililand,” speaking on the toxic flamboyance of that mid-‘90s era. Listen here.
“I Am I Be” feat. Maceo Parker, Fred Wesley and Pee-Wee Ellis (1993)
If “Buddy” was a declaration of unity among the Native Tongues crew, this somber missive from 1993’s jazzy Buhloone Mindstate reveals fractures in the bond keeping the crew together. “Or some tongues who lied/And said ‘We’ll be natives to the end,’” Pos laments over a beat sourced from the Lou Rawls hit “You’ve Made Me So Very Happy” and featuring the legendary JB Horns (Maceo Parker, Fred Wesley and Pee-Wee Ellis) on brass. “Nowadays we don’t even speak/I guess we got our own life to live/Or is it because we want our own kingdom to rule?” It’s that level of pure honesty that makes “I Am I Be” such an essential part of the De La songbook. Listen here.
“Keepin’ the Faith” (1991)
Another crowning example of Prince Paul’s penchant for seamless sample layering. Here, he brings together 10 different songs — including snippets of Aerosmith’s “Walk This Way,” Bob Marley’s “Could You Be Loved” and “Just A Touch Of Love” by Slave – to build an unstoppable groove. Pos and Trugoy bless this beat burger with some of their best verses on De La Soul Is Dead, flexing inside slang with a bravado that brings it on home. Listen here.
“Ring Ring Ring (Ha Ha Hey)” (1991)
The first single off their post-Daisy Age masterpiece saw Pos, Trugoy and Maseo set the scene for East Coast hip-hop in the early ‘90s with this ridiculously funky lament, built around an obscure 1981 disco song by The Whatnauts, about cats hassling the guys to check out their demo tapes. In a tribute to Dave on social media, Pos alluded to the tune when he wrote “for now on when we perform ‘Ring Ring Ring Ha Ha Hey’ we will say ‘2-2-2-2-222 we got an angel in heaven who can talk to you.’”
“Eye Know” (1989)
This 3 Feet highlight is an early example of the genius of producer Prince Paul and his crafty deployment of samples. On this uplifting love song, it’s the combination of Otis Redding’s whistle from “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay,” the guitars and horns from The Mad Lads hit “Make This Young Lady Mine,” the drum break off Lee Dorsey’s “Get Out Of My Life, Woman” and the vocal hook from “Peg” by Steely Dan that gives Pos and Trugoy their wings to fly high on a lyrical plane that finds both men extolling the virtues of ascending to De La heaven.
“Buddy (Native Tongue Decision)” feat. Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, Queen Latifah, Monie Love and Jungle Brothers (1989)
Native Tongues were one of the all-time great crews in the hip-hop storybook. And while it’s unfortunate the conscious posse never lasted long enough to create a full album together, “Buddy” forever offers a taste of the magic captured by De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, Jungle Brothers, Queen Latifah and Monie Love on this ode to friends with benefits — with Trugoy leading the charge. Check out the seven-minute extended remix for maximum boogie. Friendship never sounded so fresh on wax. Listen here.
The roster of headliners for this summer’s Glastonbury Festival is absurdly packed, with Arctic Monkeys, Guns N’ Roses, Elton John and Lizzo slated to take the Pyramid Stage. And, in a bittersweet child ‘o mine twist, while Axl and the rest of the Gunners will be performing for the mud-caked masses at Worthy Farm for the first time, it will also mark John’s first, and last, time at Glasto, as the pop icon’s slot will come as he winds down his Farewell Yellow Brick road tour this summer.

“It gives me enormous pleasure to let you know that the one and only Elton John will be making his first ever Glastonbury appearance, headlining the Pyramid Stage on the Sunday night next year,” co-organizer Emily Eavis revealed in a December note. “This will be the final U.K. show of Elton’s last ever tour, so we will be closing the Festival and marking this huge moment in both of our histories with the mother of all send offs. We are so very happy to finally bring the Rocket Man to Worthy Farm.”
According to the Guardian, John’s Sunday festival-closing set will be immediately preceded by a performance from Lil Nas X, as Lana Del Rey and Wizkid headline on the Other Stage. Other acts making their Glasto debuts this year include “Supermodel” rockers Måneskin and country trio The Chicks.
The lineup also includes: Lewis Capaldi, The War on Drugs, Chvches, Alt-J, Blondie, Carly Rae Jepsen, Central Cee, Christine and the Queens, Fatboy Slim, Hot Chip, Joey Bada$$, Kelis, Maggie Rogers, Manic Street Preachers, Rina Sawayama, Phoenix, Royal Blood, Slowthai, Sparks, Sudan Archives, Thundercat and Weyes Blood, among many others.
After Eavis promised in 2019 that her goal was to ensure as close to a 50/50 gender split as possible, NME reported that 53% of the 54 names on the initial lineup are male this year. And while the majority of the headliners are male, Eavis told the Guardian that GNR were booked after a previously confirmed female headliner pulled out after she “changed her touring plans”; Eavis declined to say who the artist is, but added that she hoped they would headline sometime in the next five years. She also noted that Lizzo will serve as the opening acts for Guns, noting that “she could totally headline” in the future.
In addition, Eavis said as part of the ongoing effort to diversify the bill that 46% of the 54 names on the list are non-white or feature non-white members.
