95th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

Angela Bassett was deservedly nominated for the Actress In A Supporting Role Oscar in this year’s ceremony, which eventually went to fellow veteran actress, Jamie Lee Curtis. On Twitter, many people are calling Curtis’ win a snub over Bassett with some believing the loss may have stung a bit.

Angela Bassett starred in the stellar Black Panther: Wakanda Forever as Queen Ramonda, delivering one of the best performances in the film hands down. Each scene with Bassett as the Queen of the fictional African nation was gripping and she expertly displayed a wide range of pride, beauty, grief, and a warrior’s resolve.

Amazingly enough, this is just the second Oscars nomination for Basett, her first nod happening in 1993 for Best Actress for What’s Love Got To Do With It starring in the role of the iconic Tina Turner.

Curtis, who has enjoyed a long career in Hollywood herself, won the Best Supporting Actress for the acclaimed Everything Everywhere All At Once, which had a big night on Sunday (March 12).

It isn’t clear what Bassett’s real feelings are about losing out to Curtis but the assumption being made on social media is that she wasn’t terribly pleased. That sentiment has only grown in size since the conclusion of the Oscars ceremony. Along with the calls of the loss being a snub, many online are alleging this was the Academy once again passing over a Black actress at the top of her craft.

On Twitter, the reactions to Angela Bassett not winning her first Oscar have been nothing short of passionate. We’ve got those reactions below.

The Notorious B.I.G. Saluted On Twitter For 26th Anniversary Of His Passing #RIPBIG

'Murder Was The Case' Premiere

The Notorious B.I.G. has been covered many times on our site and there is little more we can add to cement the man’s greatness as a rapper, lyricist, and Hip-Hop icon. On the 26th anniversary of his tragic death, Twitter once more gathers to salute The Notorious B.I.G. aka Biggie Smalls in grand fashion.

The Notorious B.I.G., real name Christopher Wallace, was at the height of his fame in 1997. Just six months prior, Biggie’s bitter rival and former friend Tupac “2Pac” Shakur was shot in a drive-by incident and eventually succumbed to his wounds. Even today, the people who carried out these vicious crimes still remain free.

It is astonishing to think that Biggie was just 24 years of age when he died. 2Pac was just 25 at the time of his death. Two young lives, two massive superstars of the culture, gone. Both men should still be here, celebrating Hip-Hop’s 50th anniversary with some of their peers and close allies. It is beyond tragic that we’re only left with their memories.

Their passing stands as a grim reminder of the underbelly of Hip-Hop beef that can often turn violent. And even today when so many young artists have lost their lives in the wake of what happened in the 1990s, the same issues of gun violence and the inability to work things out like men still persist.

On Twitter, many are taking a moment to salute The Notorious B.I.G. aka Biggie Smalls, He indeed was the illest.

Atlanta Black Pride Weekend Pure Heat Community Festival

Karlissa Saffold, the mother of rapper and reality television star Blueface, went viral after sharing quite an explosive bit of news about her son’s, ahem, situation. Saffold said that her husband’s “equipment” is larger than her son’s setup and folks on Twitter are shocked.

Karlissa Saffold, 50, was seen on what can be assumed with Instagram Live speaking with the public although the context was initially missing and lost on us.

However, what wasn’t missing was Saffold explicitly saying that she “has her own d*ck over here and it’s bigger than my son’s” for reasons we can’t imagine. The relationship between Saffold and Blueface, real name Johnathan Porter, has been turbulent at times which resulted in the rapper kicking his mother and sister out of his home after allegedly fighting with his girlfriend at the time.

In an attempt to get to the bottom of this, we combed through Saffold’s Instagram page and found a post dated February 22 that might offer some explanation.

From Safford’s IG page:

“They said I want to have sex with my own son Lord the son I fought, worked, inspired, motivated and pushed to believe in you and himself lord. The son I put before myself, the son I prayed for lord. The enemies are speaking against me after their own mothers walked out on them for a pack of cigarettes lord. I know you said you would use my enemies to bless me but this burden is disturbing lord. Amen

Again, we aren’t clear who spread the vile rumors of Saffold wanting to sleep with Blueface, which apparently prompted her to speak on the size of the anatomy in her household.

Check out the reactions to Karlissa Saffold setting the meat record straight from Twitter below.

Elon Musk Shareholder Lawsuit Trial Continues In San Francisco

Elon Musk is facing heavy criticism on Twitter Tuesday morning (May 7) after an exchange with an employee took a turn that shocked many. Musk was seen questioning the person’s disability and dismissing them in what some viewed as insulting.

Elon Musk, 51, was called out by former Twitter designer Halli Thorleifsson in a tweet asking if he was fired from the company after losing access to his work computer.

Dear @elonmusk [waving emoji]. 9 days ago the access to my work computer was cut, along with about 200 other Twitter employees. However, your head of HR is not able to confirm if I am an employee or not. You’ve not answered my emails. Maybe if enough people retweet you’ll answer me here?” Thorleifsson tweeted on Monday (May 6).

Thorleifsson’s thread also contained a message for former Twitter CEO and founder Jack Dorsey.

“Hi @jack. I would really appreciate your help on this one. My company was acquired on your watch and I joined because I believed in what you were building,” Thorleifsson added.

Gaining Musk’s attention, the Twitter boss asks, “What work have you been doing?” in the thread to which Thorleifsson fired back with, “I would need to break confidentiality to answer this question here. If you have your lawyers share in writing that I can do that then I’d be happy to discuss that openly!”

Another Twitter user, Alex Cohen, who tweets under @anothercohen, shared a screengrab of the exchange between Musk and Thorleifsson and got a response from Musk.

“The reality is that this guy (who is independently wealthy) did no actual work, claimed as his excuse that he had a disability that prevented him from typing, yet was simultaneously tweeting up a storm. Can’t say I have a lot of respect for that,” Musk wrote.

Truthfully, it appears that Elon Musk is determined to bring the once-mightly social media platform to its knees and there are even reports that he currently walks about Twitter headquarters with bodyguards in tow, according to a new piece from The Daily Beast.

On Twitter, folks are giving the Telsa founder the business. Keep scrolling for those reactions.

65th GRAMMY Awards - Show

Melle Mel is a living legend of Hip-Hop and should be regarded as one of the culture’s foundational stars for his massive contributions. However, the Furious Five frontman is coming under fire on Twitter after recent comments he made about the genre recently surfaced.

Melle Mel, 61, was a recent guest on The Art of Dialogue and several clips from the chat have since gone viral.

One comment, in particular, was Mel stating that other rappers don’t want to rap like Kendrick Lamar despite several instances of some rappers taking some of K-Dot’s vocal formula over the past decade. Mel was speaking about the recent list of the best rappers in the game published by Billboard.

Mel then launched into an assault on Eminem, stating that the Detroit lyricist is only lauded as much as he is due to him being a white rapper. Mel also concluded that Busta Rhymes is a better rapper overall than Jay-Z along with other quips.

As a result of Mel’s comments, fans on Twitter are taking note of the fact that the founding member of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five has been critical of Hip-Hop acts with one clip in particular where Method Man of the Wu-Tang Clan expressed that Melle Mel seemingly mistreated him despite Meth showing respect.

Mel also took another shot at Jay-Z, saying that the late Tupac “2Pac” Shakur had a larger impact on Hip-Hop than the Brooklyn rapper. Each of these clips has garnered a flurry of responses as expected. And this isn’t the first time Melle Mel has taken aim at his predecessors.

Ja Morant Appears To Flash Gun On Instagram Live, Twitter Dunks On The All-Star

Memphis Grizzlies v Philadelphia 76ers

Ja Morant is easily one of the most electrifying players the NBA has ever seen and he has been rewarded handsomely for his on-court talents. However, the Memphis Grizzlies superstar is under fire for his off-court antics after he was seen on Instagram Live appearing to flash a gun.

Ja Morant and the Grizzlies last played Friday night (March 3) against the Denver Nuggets in a contest, losing 113-97. After the game in the wee hours of Saturday morning (March 4), a video of the 23-year-old star flashing a gun on IG Live made its rounds on social media and sports media outlets as expected.

This comes as Morant is already in legal crosshairs after allegedly punching a 17-year-old boy after a pickup game at his house in 2022 and also allegedly flashing a gun at the teen. As it stands, fans of Morant and observers alike are wondering why someone with this much skill on the hardwood would risk a thriving career and his $193 million rookie max extension deal for actions not befitting of an NBA star.

DJ Akademiks captured the video along with other outlets, who spread the image far and wide via their networks. According to Twitter reactions, Morant is gesturing with the firearm with the music of NBA YoungBoy blaring in the back. It isn’t known if he was at home, or at a club, but it does add to a string of poor decision-making on Morant’s part.

Along with the aforementioned punching case from 2022, Morant is also accused of being inside a vehicle where individuals inside allegedly flashed a red gun laser at some Indiana Pacers players after a game that was reportedly chippy.

Ja Morant is clearly gifted beyond measure and hopefully, someone in his camp is reminding him of how much he could stand to lose. Further, young players around the world idolize Morant and his actions carry great weight.

2017 SXSW Conference And Festivals - Day 9

De La Soul fans in the digital age were left out of experiencing the Long Island, N.Y. trio’s music on streaming services due to a series of legal blockades over the years. Today (March 3), those patient listeners are now rewarded with access to the Plugs’ full audio catalog and on Twitter, the celebration is joyously unified.

De La Soul and the group’s long fight for the rights back to their music released under the Tommy Boy Records imprint was heavily documented by those in the Hip-Hop media space and the beloved group’s dedication to the mission was not unheard.

This all culminated in a star-packed celebration in New York City Thursday night (March 2) featuring the surviving members of De La Soul and many of their Native Tongues cohorts including Monie Lovie, Dres of Black Sheep, and more. The moment was bittersweet as the celebration also included honoring the life and legacy of David “Dave” Jolicoeur, who passed of congestive heart failure on Feb. 12.

From clips shared on social media and streaming images via Amazon Music of The D.A.I.S.Y. Experience from Webster Hall, emotions were high. DJ Maseo aka Plug Three honored his fallen comrade, as did Posdonous aka Plug One. Comedian Dave Chappelle was also in the building to honor De La, helping to count down the minutes when the catalog was available on streaming services on the east coast and the states at large.

As it stands, the massive recording history of De La Soul and its lasting influence on the culture will continue to live beyond their years. On Twitter, fans are chiming in with their listening orders, favorite tracks, favorite lines, and all things in between. Check out those reactions below.

J-Hope, a member of the South Korean megastar band BTS, has the Internet in a frenzy once again. Teasing a new song and video titled “On The Street,” the record also features North Carolina native son, J. Cole.

J-Hope and Dreamville posted the teaser clip of the new track which sees the rapper walking on what appears to be a New York City rooftop while donning an iconic streetwear brand’s jacket.

As the scene progresses, J-Hope stands alongside J. Cole with the Dreamville honcho tapping his cohort to stare off onto the city skyline to dramatic effect while the assumed song’s backing melody plays in the back.

Without any spoken word, the moment holds a particular type of weight considering J-Hope reportedly looks up to J. Cole as one of his idols. In the song, “Hip-Hop Phile,” Cole gets a mighty shoutout.

Not Today, Satan: The Shade Room Posts Then Deletes Doja Cat Devil Photo, Twitter Barks Back

long-haired brunette woman in a suit standing on a bridge concentrating on using a telephone

The Shade Room cemented itself as one of the top celebrity gossip hubs in the vast space of such content, but they’re getting a bit of pushback from fans at the moment. After the social media page of The Shade Room posted then deleted an image of Doja Cat wearing a devil outfit, they doubled down with a message about faith causing fans to react on Twitter.

Salute to Pop Crave for catching the moment that apparently happened earlier Friday morning (Feb. 24). In the tweet below, Doja Cat’s sultry photo was reportedly shared on Shade Room’s Instagram page and taken down.

Shortly after, the popular page posted an image featuring the words, “I will never be ashamed of my faith” with the caption reading, “If you want to know what side of faith we stand on, we stand for God. We stand for Jesus. If you do too, throw up your [praying hands emoji] in the comments – #ToBeClear #NotAshamed #GoodMorning #MorningInspiration #John316.”

What isn’t readily clear is if the message The Shade Room shared was in connection to the Doja Cat photo or just part of the brand’s usual content flow but most fans on Twitter found the statement to be contradictory considering what content is usually covered by the page. Further, this adds fuel to a growing rumor that famed church leader TD Jakes either owns or is connected to the brand.

Without passing judgment, plenty of sites operate under the same pattern that Shade Room undertakes but few have been as successful as the brand. As it stands, folks are really letting the page have it online and it doesn’t look like it’s letting up anytime soon.

We’ve gathered some of the reactions to the page’s faith-based post below. Also, we’ve added the photos of Doja Cat too.
