Lauren Jauregui tells us all about her new music off her EP ‘In Between’, exploring her sexuality through her music, Fifth Harmony’s 10th anniversary, and more!
Lauren Jauregui 0:00You should listen to my music. That’s what I would say. Go check it out. Check me out, like it’s good sh–. It’s good sh–. Can I say sh–? You can. Hey, what’s up? I’m Lauren Jauregui and this is Billboard News
Tetris Kelly 0:22It’s Tetris with Billboard News and I’m so happy to be hanging out with my friend Lauren. Hey, beautiful. How are you?
Lauren Jauregui 0:27Hello, I’m good. How are you?
Tetris Kelly 0:29I’m amazing. Thanks for hanging out with us. We got to talk about this music. You’re not new to the solo game. I mean, from ‘Expectations’ and all the success you had with that and so many releases. Tell me what about this EP, that’s going to be so different.
Lauren Jauregui 0:39I think there’s, there’s more movement to this EP. This is a continuation of ‘Prelude’ which is my first EP that I dropped
Lauren Jauregui 0:53Kind of the sound and vibe that I was, I’ve been cultivating from that point. I’ve been writing since like, 2018. And these songs are from that era, I haven’t really locked in to start writing new stuff yet. So it’s kind of a continuation of a story that would have been told maybe in the past,
Tetris Kelly 1:07Let’s talk about your lead single. Now ‘Wolves’, you got two amazingly talented people on it: Ty Dolla $ign and Russ. Why were those two guys the perfect people?
Lauren Jaureugi 1:15This song was written back in like 2019. So Russ and I have always been friends, you know, he’s an independent artist as well. And I learned a lot from him and all of the wisdom he puts out into the world as an artist and I felt very connected to him and we like grew a friendship, just like kind of knowing each other, and then Ty heard the track and loved it and wanted to hop on it. So he did.
Tetris Kelly 1:37But as we break down this EP, tell me a little bit more about some of the other tracks and what they mean.
Lauren Jaureugi 1:41I love all of these songs, there are six of them, two of them are already out in the world, which are ‘Always Love’ and ‘Trust Issues,’ which I feel give a very vulnerable kind of take on my songwriting, they’re very just like my vocals and some strings and a guitar, for the most part. But I opened the project with a spoken word piece that’s overseeing music that my friend Powers produced, which is really beautiful and kind of goes even more in depth into the meaning of ‘In Between.’ For me, it’s a poem specifically about that. It’s called ‘Meet Me In the In Between’.
Tetris Kelly 2:24And something that I also have felt I’ve watched you do is kind of like grow and bloom into your sexuality as well. I’ve been very proud of you. Because like you were unfairly outed in 2016. But now you’ve kind of just owned your stuff. Yeah. And you’re out and proud and living your life. I loved your Valentine’s Day post. So how was that?
Lauren Jaureugi 2:43I mean, it’s life. I’m older now. I was 16 when I started in this industry, and I’m now 26. So I feel like you blossom into yourself over the course of those years, you discover yourself, you meet people, you fall in love, you fall out of love, and you learn yourself. And I think even when it comes to expression and identity and sexuality, I’m very fluid. So I feel like I’ll continue to discover and engage with different parts of myself because I grow.
Tetris Kelly 3:13Talking about growth, obviously growing as a solo artist, you know, you obviously were a part of a massive group. And one of your members recently, Dinah, she said that she quit doing solo music in 2020 because of depression and pressure. So is that something you have ever connected with? Or do you feel like there’s a pressure as being a solo artist?
Lauren Jauregui 3:31Yeah, I think all of us could connect with that. I feel like we’ve all spoken about our stories and in respect to like that experience overall. And I think each of us needed our individual time to grow and discover our personal stories within the story of it all, you know, so I’m proud of her for getting through it and taking the time that she needed. And I hope she’s feeling beautiful because I love you.
Tetris Kelly 3:55It feels like it was just yesterday that it was July, you guys are celebrating 10 years
Tetris Kelly 4:05And now, it’s about to be July, again, 11 years.
Lauren Jauregui 4:09I’m part of anything for 11 years, it’s just like a lot.
Tetris Kelly 4:12And I feel like every every other week you guys are going viral for some moment or performance. What’s one that sticks out to you that you haven’t spoken on? I need to know like when you see this on the internet, you’re like, oh, man, I can’t.
Lauren Jaureugi 4:26Oh man. Well, with Fifth Harmony, there is an endless supply of that. There’s so much, there’s so much stuff, definitely our carpet photos. I laughed so hard at y’all’s comments about the carpet photos because I’m, I feel you.
Tetris Kelly 4:41For people that are checking in and tuning in now. They don’t know Lauren, they don’t know Fifth Harmony. What do you feel like you want to say?
Lauren Jauregui 4:48Hi, I’m Lauren. I’m a singer songwriter. You should listen to my music, that’s what I would say. Go check me out, like hit me up. It’s good sh–.
Tetris Kelly 4:59Thank you so much for coming and hanging out with us, I really appreciate it.

LØREN talks about his favorite late-night snack to eat, obsession with cars, love for tattoos, connection with his Black Label mate Somi and more during this rapid-fire game.
LØREN 0:00Hi, this is LØREN and this is Billboard News
Tetris Kelly 0:12I do want to play a game with you, it’d be really easy. I’m just going to say a sentence and you finish it with the first thought that comes to your head as quick as possible. Alright?
LØREN 0:19All right.
Tetris Kelly 0:20My favorite late night snack is…
LØREN 0:22Instant noodles.
Tetris Kelly 0:23Instant noodles?!
LØREN 0:24It’s like in my blood, you know? Like, it’s like the one thing that you’re not supposed to eat at night.
Tetris Kelly 0:28If I wasn’t a singer, I would be…
LØREN 0:31A tattooist.
Tetris Kelly 0:32Have you ever done one of your own tattoos?
LØREN 0:33I actually have a really close tattooist, and you know, I give her like a really bad picture of what I want, and she just kind of like refines it, you know, and so we kind of go back and forth and she’s like, What do you think about this angle? What do you think about the size? And then we just kind of put it together.
Tetris Kelly 0:48The most famous person that follows me on IG is…
LØREN 0:50I think Somi from the Black Label. I think
LØREN 1:00I’m pretty sure that’s it.
Tetris Kelly 1:02I’m gonna go through your followers now.
Tetris Kelly 1:03My current obsession is,
LØREN 1:06I think cars. I’ve always been a car guy and I don’t think I ever grew out of it. But I recently got into a car crash and so I need to get like a rental. Right? So I got a Toyota Supra and that cars has been like really, really fun. So I think just going for drives has been my obsession.
Tetris Kelly 1:19Well, thanks so much for again for coming out and hanging out. This is so fun.
Davido talks about Forbes calling him “The King of Afrobeats”, how he created his album ‘Timeless’, what he has planned for his tour, the future of Afrobeats, and more!
Davido 0:00I’m ready for the genre to just go crazy
Davido 0:02I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time.
Davido 0:09Yo what up my people, it’s your boy Davido and you’re watching Billboard News
Raina Aniftos 0:20Hey everybody, it’s Raina Aniftos with Billboard News and we’re here with singer songwriter, producer, the king of Afro beats Davido.
Raina Aniftos 0:31You just dropped your new album ‘Timeless.’ So tell me a bit about the album and the inspiration behind it.
Davido 0:39You want very out on the record out, I didn’t put out an album in like three years. So I’m just happy that you know, it’s breaking records everywhere
Raina Aniftos 0:50You have the most first day streams of any African artists on Apple Music and Spotify. What is it like to represent your home country like in such a successful way?
Davido 1:03I mean, was dope. We just made the album. You know, with low criteria, we just wanted to just go into studio and make good music. Like we didn’t plug most of it. We were just like natural vibes, you know, in the studio, not putting pressure. You know, even when picking the records, you know, normally I’d pick the whole album myself or like I’m very, very sensitive. So I pick 17 songs out of like, 68
Raina Aniftos 1:28How do you even go about picking the songs like..?
Davido 1:31So kind of like made up this formula where I said, I sent songs to like everybody, like even my friends. So I was like everybody votes and it kind of worked out.
Raina Aniftos 1:41What was the one song that was kind of common throughout everybody’s list?
Davido 1:47Definitely like unavailable.
Davido 1:54Like the intro of the album. I wasn’t gonna put it by everybody. I was like, do and then my dad liked it.
Davido 2:06The one with Angelique Kidjo. I have veto power. That one’s going
Davido 2:12Regardless if there’s no vote
Raina Aniftos 2:18That’s cool, too, that you get to also work with other artists.
Davido 2:22Definitely, there’s this is girl I found on I found on the internet doing like a cover to a song. And then I dmed her and like, “yo, your voice is amazing. Wow.” She doesn’t even believe like, I’m the one talking. She’s so good.
Raina Aniftos 2:35And now she’s on a record breaking album with you.
Davido 2:37Yeah and I signed her too.
Raina 2:41Forbes named you the “King of Afrobeats.” How does it feel to be named something like that? And to represent a genre, be the face of it.
Davido 2:51I mean, it’s true.
Davido 2:55You know, I’ve lived in both places. I’ve lived in America. I went to school out here too.
Davido 3:00In Alabama. So I was always like spreading the gospel of like, African culture. Food, the fashion you know what I’m saying. When it was time to do music like my dream was always the crossover. Where we were without crossover happen. You know, I was one of the first to get signed by major label from dead on everything just got lit.
Raina Aniftos 3:31Who were some of your musical influences growing up that have led you to create such a unique sound.
Davido 3:36I mean, growing up I was like, really like a hip hop fan. I love that. Yeah, I was like, really, really into like rap. Like I love like 50 cent. Ja Rule like I dressed like a rapper.
Raina Aniftos 3:54As far as Afro beats as a genre, it’s really been blossoming over the past few years. What do you think it is about the genre that’s connecting so much with people recently?
Davido 4:03Man it’s fresh yet you don’t say it’s been here for years? You know? Even when I was in college, I’d always play like African music because that’s what I was listening to. At the time. My friends my like, American friends always like ah, like it sounds good. So I always knew that if he got the opportunity to get heard people would like it.
Raina Aniftos 4:31You’re about to go on tour. Tell me a bit about what we can expect what you have in store what’s going on with this tour is like
Davido 4:41Man you know, I’m gonna need to challenge myself in my last tour. You know, Afrobeats wasn’t as crazy as it is now. So it’s like, Now all eyes on us
Raina Aniftos 4:57Where do you want to see the future of Afrobeats go?
Davido 5:00I’m like just happy everybody’s doing well. You know what I’m saying The future of Afrobeats
Davido 5:06I feel like it’s in good hands. So hopefully a documentary soon n aboutot only me also about the culture as well. Up we go
Raina Aniftos 5:16Up you go so many cool things ‘Timeless’ your album is out now you’re about to head out on tour. Thank you so much for speaking with me today.
Nick Jonas looked back on his off-key performance at the 2016 Academy of Country Music Awards on an episode of ‘Armchair Expert With Dax Shepard.’ Warner Bros. unveiled the trailer for the big-screen musical adaptation of ‘The Color Purple’ starring Halle Bailey, H.E.R., Fantasia and more. ‘The Idol’ received a standing ovation at Cannes Film Festival. Davido stopped by the studio to talk about Forbes calling him “The King of Afrobeats,” how he created his album ‘Timeless’ and more!
TETRIS KELLY:‘The Idol’ premiere slays at Cannes, a trailer drops for ‘The Color Purple,’ and a Nick Jonas performance sends him to therapy. Plus, we hang out with Davido and Evaluna and a new K-pop girl group rules Trending Songs. It’s Tuesday, May 23rd. I’m Tetris and this is Billboard News. Let’s jump into your top story.
Nick Jonas says his 2016 ACM performance with Kelsey Ballerini sent him to therapy. Let’s get into it.
NICK JONAS:“It was like a really traumatic moment that shaped the pressure I put on myself to be perfect and to always be on.”
TETRIS KELLY:The Jonas Brothers stopped by ‘The Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard’ podcast on Monday, where Nick talked about the moment his guitar solo went terribly wrong during Kelsea Ballerini’s performance at the 2016 ACM Awards.
NICK JONAS:“I started off, it’s fine. And as I sort of walked towards her, I just went completely blank. And I hit a wrong note and blacked out basically and clocked that-“
MONICA PADMAN: “Oh my God!”
NICK JONAS:“…it was wrong. And I couldn’t stop. To this day, and like hours of unpacking it, I can’t really figure out exactly what happened.”
TETRIS KELLY:That moment took place right in the middle of the JoBros break when Nick put out two solo projects and before the brothers reunited in 2019.
NICK JONAS:“In retrospect, I can kind of like laugh about how big I thought it was, but it did travel more than I wish it would have. And it did cause me to go into therapy.”
TETRIS KELLY:And now we update you on musicians that are also conquering TV and film. Halle Bailey shows us that wearing Ariel’s purple fins won’t be the only time she hits the big screen in 2023. Plus, The Weeknd, Jennie of BLACKPINK, Troye Sivan, and more are at the premiere of HBOs ‘The Idol’ at Cannes and we’ll be chatting with the pop star.
Warner Bros. has unveiled a trailer for the big screen musical adaptation of ‘The Color Purple’ and it stars Halle Bailey and she’s joined by superstars H.E.R., Fantasia, Ciara, Taraji P Henson, and more. The musical is scheduled to hit theaters on Christmas Day.
We’ve all been obsessed with the new show ‘The Idol’ before its premiere on June 4th, but we’re even more obsessed with the stars’ red carpet look at Cannes. Jennie slayed, giving preppy realness. The Weeknd gave classic Abel while Lily-Rose Depp dazzled, and Troye Sivan was a fashion king per usual. We’ll be chatting with Troye about the show, make sure you stay tuned.
Now let’s get to our interview with Davido. He’s an Afrobeats superstar and he’s even spreading the wealth.
RANIA ANIFTOS:You have the most first-day streams of any African artists on Apple Music and Spotify. What is it like to represent your home country in such a successful way?
DAVIDO:I mean, it was dope. We just made the album, you know, with low criteria. We just wanted to just go into the studio and make good music. DAVIDO:There’s this girl I found on the internet, she was doing like a cover to a song. And then I DM’d her. I’m like, “Yo, your voice is amazing.”
RANIA ANIFTOS:Wow.
DAVIDO:And she doesn’t even believe like I’m the one talking to her.
RANIA ANIFTOS:And now she’s on a record-breaking album with you.
DAVIDO:Yeah, and I signed her too!
TETRIS KELLY:You can find the full interview at Billboard.com

TETRIS KELLY:That’s it, come back tomorrow to hang out with us and K-Pop star LØren. See you then!
We asked K-pop fans at We Bridge Expo about who their favorite groups and biases of those groups were.
Tetris Kelly 0:00I’m doing some hard investigative work out here and I’m trying to find out who’s your number one favorite K-pop group.
K-pop fans 0:05Oh Monsta X. Monsta X without hesitation. Monsta X 1,000%, Monsta X.
Tetris Kelly 0:11Oh I found the Monsta X crew. Are you guys fighting though? Because who’s your bias?
K-pop fans 0:17Joohoney, Shownu, Joohoney — but we’re not fighting it’s all love!
Tetris Kelly 0:22K-pop is becoming one of the biggest genres in the world, but who’s everybody’s favorite group? And do you know what a bias is?
Tetris Kelly 0:31Can you help me explain to the people at home what’s a bias?
K-pop fan 0:34Okay, so you get like emotionally attached to someone they pick you, you never pick them? Well, Jimin picked me so I agree.
Tetris Kelly 0:43I’m trying to find out who everyone’s favorite K-pop group is? You gotta pick I know it’s gonna stress you out.
K-pop fan 0:52I have to say Shinee. I gotta say Shinee.
K-pop fan 1:00Got7 those are my boys forever.
Tetris Kelly 1:03Who’s your bias?
K-pop fan 1:04Taemin
Tetris Kelly 1:05Oh she didn’t even think about it.
K-pop fan 1:06We like this. For life!
Tetris Kelly 1:07Who’s your bias in your favorite group?
K-pop fan 1:10Mark Tuan. I love him.
K-pop fan 1:13That’s my boy!
K-pop fan 1:17K-pop group you would have to be SEVENTEEN.
K-pop fan 1:24NCT, but Stray Kids and P1Harmony are like close second.
Tetris Kelly 1:28She gave us three she likes. I can’t decide: Who’s your bias in P1Harmony?
K-pop fan 1:33P1Harmony? Intak, yeah it’s Intak.
Tetris Kelly 1:37But me and you, we got to have a conversation right now because who is your bias?
K-pop Fan 1:41Hoshi.
Tetris Kelly1:46Hoshi! Oh my god we’re literally the same same, same, same. I feel like I know the answer already because of your lightstick but who is your favorite K-pop group?
K-pop fan 1:53ENHYPEN. Mine’s ENHYPEN. Right now it’s ENHYPEN.
Tetris Kelly 2:00But the question is who’s your bias?
K-pop fan 2:02My Enhypen bias is Jake. I love Jake I love him so much. Yeah, I love Jake. Ni-Ki
Tetris Kelly 2:11Nobody’s supposed to know who my bias is.
Jungwon 2:14Hi Billboard!
Tetris Kelly 2:17I’m really mad about all the people that share biases with me but it’ll be alright for Billboard News, I’m Tetris Kelly.
Bad Bunny gives us some Jersey club sounds with his new track ‘Where She Goes.’ Miley Cyrus spilled some serious tea for the cover of British Vogue, opening up about whether ‘Flowers’ is about her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth, the advice she’s received from Dolly Parton, and her thoughts about touring. The long-awaited track for the ‘Fast X’ soundtrack ‘Angel Pt. 1’ featuring BTS’ Jimin is here. Baby Tate & Saweetie test how well they know each other. And more!
Tetris Kelly 0:00Miley clears up rumors and says she doesn’t want to tour. Justin Timberlake laughs when the internet jokes about his wife Jessica Biel. We’ve got hit after hit in your Friday music guide. You see how well Saweetie and Baby Tate know each other. And Maria Becerra builds her ultimate girl group. Happy Friday! I’m Tetris and this is Billboard News. It’s May 19th and we’ve got a ton of new bops in your Friday music guide.
Tetris Kelly 0:32Has Bad Bunny ever failed? I think not. He gives us everything we need with new track ‘Where She Goes,’ including cameos from Frank Ocean and Lil Uzi Vert.
Tetris Kelly 0:49We’ll have more new music throughout the show, but first, let’s get to our top story. Miley Cyrus is on the cover of British Vogue and on the inside she’s having quite the tea party because she is spilling — here are three things to know from her revealing cover story.
Tetris Kelly 1:09First Miley’s eight-week Hot 100 chart topper ‘Flowers’ was almost very different. She said the empowering song used to be said with one lyric saying “I can buy myself flowers, right? Write my name in the sand, but I can’t love me better than you can.” Plus Miley says she doesn’t have time for the rumors that the song is about her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth. She’s not into tricking the audience. If it were about him, you’d know.
Tetris Kelly 1:37Second, Miley said she’s not a fan of those major tours. She said there’s no safety. It’s also not natural. It’s so isolated because you’re in front of 100,000 people then you are alone. It’s not that she can’t do it. She just doesn’t have the desire to do it.
Tetris Kelly 1:57Finally, she reveals some of the best advice she got from her godmother Dolly Parton when she remembered a wardrobe malfunction while hosting New Year’s Eve with Pete Davidson.
Tetris Kelly 2:19It’s safe to say I’m in my grave. BTS’ Jimin is joined by Muni Long, Kodak Black, NLE Choppa and Jvke on ‘Angel Pt.1’ from ‘Fast X.’ And the only way to describe this song is angelic.
Tetris Kelly 2:38Saweetie and Baby Tate made me a bop together with ‘Hey Mickey’. So to celebrate we put their friendship to the test.
Saweetie and Baby Tate 2:45I’m Baby Tate and I’m Saweetie and we’re gonna see how well we know each other
Producer 2:58Who would win in a twerk off?
Baby Tate 3:01Me — not in this dress
Producer 3;08Who’s most likely to be late to set?
Saweetie 3:09Don’t judge me, there was traffic today. I think it’s neutral.
Producer 3:17Who’s the bigger spender?
Baby Tate 3:22Probably Saweetie — you see this shirt?
Producer 3:27Who takes the most selfies?
Saweetie 3:29Oh I don’t know, that might be a tie. Yeah, I feel like we’re both picture girls.
Baby Tate 3:33I was definitely taking pictures earlier
Saweetie 3:36Me too.
Baby Tate 3:38Gotta get that good light
Saweetie 3:38Right?
Producer 3:40Who is most likely to Google themselves?
Baby Tate 3:43Me.
Saweetie 3:44Me too.
Producer 3:52Who is the better driver?
Saweetie 3:53Oh me.
Baby Tate 3:54I don’t drive, so definitely Saweetie.
Saweetie 3:55I’m like the best getaway driver. I’m thinking in another life…
Baby Tate 3:59Like a race car?
Saweetie 4:00No like a getaway driver.
Baby Tate 4:03That’s good to know.
Producer 4:08Who’s the bigger crier?
Baby Tate 4:11Oh, I mean, I don’t really cry that much.
Saweetie 4:12Me either.
Baby Tate 4:13I don’t have any water in my chart.
Saweetie 3 4:13I have hella water in my chart, but shoot.
Baby Tate 4:16You don’t be crying?
Saweetie 4:17No I don’t.
Baby Tate 4:18It’s no more pain over here.
Producer 4:20Who is most likely to forget lyrics while performing?
Baby Tate 4:28Yeah, definitely we forget. We have so many songs.
Saweetie 4:32Right?
Baby Tate 4:32I think people, like they get a little hard on artists like how you don’t remember your words. Like I write a lot of words.
Saweetie 4:38I think it’d be like the choreo with the rapping. I did it one time and they caught me in 4k.
Tetris Kelly 4:47Kesha is showing us only love can save us now. Her new album ‘Gag Order’ has arrived.
Tetris Kelly 4:59Kylie Minogue is entering a new era with ‘Padam Padam’
Tetris Kelly 5:12Justin Timberlake is responding to a TikTok user claiming the singer’s girlfriend looks just like Jessica Biel.
Tetris Kelly 5:27Justin Timberlake got in on the fun this week after someone pointed out the stark similarities between his wife and Jessica Biel. The joke started when the TikTok user left a comment on the pop star’s video writing, “I don’t know who you are, but your girlfriend looks like Jessica Biel, Congrats” followed by a pair of starry-eyed and thumbs-up emojis. The couple has been married for more than a decade and the singer couldn’t resist turning the comment into a bit. In the video, JT lowers his sunglasses to look directly at the camera, and he doubled down in the caption, writing ‘from now on I’m only going by Jessica Biel’s boyfriend.’ Gotta love it. Justin can jump in and make a joke out of this — now where’s some new music?
Tetris Kelly 6:10The worlds of Disney and K-pop have collided and I couldn’t be happier. Danielle from NewJeans voices ‘The Little Mermaid’ and K-pop idol Ailee lends her voice to Disney’s ‘The Ghost and Molly McGee.’
Tetris Kelly 6:35Now let’s toss it to Maria Becerra who told us down in Miami who would be in her ultimate girl group.
Tetris Kelly 7:11That’s it for today, we’ll be back Monday with your latest in charts and music news. But before you go, we’ve got one more entry in your Friday music guide. If your heart is broken, you might need to stay away from this next one. Lewis Capaldi returns with ‘Broken By Desire to Be Heavenly Sent.’ For even more new music make sure you head to Billboard.com. I’m Tetris Kelly and this is Billboard News.

I’m Tetris Kelly and this is Billboard News. It’s Thursday, May 18th. We’ve got some romance rumors, breakups, and friendly exes to talk about. Billie, V and Jennie, Tay and Tay, and Halle and her prince — so much relationship tea to around up. Let’s dive in! The star of ‘The Little Mermaid’ was asked by People if her real-life boyfriend, DDG, was also a Prince Charming, to which she responded, “People love to talk about this. Yeah, I would say that.” And Taylor Lautner is saying John Mayer better watch out as his ex Taylor Swift prepares to release “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version).” Both his and John’s relationships with the pop star will resurface. He posted #PrayforJohn. And it’s the K-pop power couple everyone’s talking about. Alleged video of BTS’ V and BLACKPINK’s Jennie holding hands and being cozy in Paris have surfaced sending fans into a frenzy with most asking to respect them, their decisions, and privacy. And lastly, Billie Eilish and her boyfriend Jesse Rutherford have split after seven months of dating. The two were last spotted together at Coachella as Eilish showed up to the Met Gala alone. Now we wait to see if Jesse’s new music will address it all.
Pride Month is almost upon us and here in Los Angeles, we celebrate in part with music, and OUTLOUD at WeHo Pride is bringing the party this year. With headliners like Carly Rae Jepsen, Grace Jones, Idina Menzel and Jessie Ware, OUTLOUD at WeHo Pride is about to be a banger. More acts for the first weekend in June include Tinashe, Orville Peck and ‘Drag Race’ winner Kylie Sonique Love.
Kylie released a cover of Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colors” as a message of support to the trans and drag communities who are under attack through hundreds of bills being passed around the United States. Tickets are still available for OUTLOUD at WeHo Pride and we’ll be there to talk to all your favorite performers.
Let’s move on to our interview with Labrinth. He told Billboard’s Jason Lipshutz that he worked on his latest album ‘Ends & Begins’ for a full year, but it was Coachella that helped him finally release it.
LABRINTH:I started putting the show together. And I was like, ‘If I’m going to do a show, I just want it to be the sickest thing that I think I’ve ever seen or haven’t seen.’ And so I just started kind of composing what my set would be. Me and Billie ended up doing the record ‘Never Felt So Alone.’ And I was like, “Do you want to maybe come to Coachella and perform it with me?” And she was like, “Yeah.” and I was like, “Really?” She’s like, “Okay.” That’s wild. And you know, me and Billie really loved the record that we did together. And it kind of felt like a natural progression into us performing it. And like actually ground-testing this record and seeing how the fans really enjoyed it. And it was wild. I was like, “[Zendaya], I’m going to perform at Coachella, I would love to do our songs together.” And she was like, “I would love to but I don’t have the time.” I didn’t think she could make it. And then I think last minute something happened that made her have to pass through. And she was like, “Lab, I want to do the show.” And I was like, “Really?” As soon as she said she wanted to do it. I was like, this is a moment. Like, I just knew it straight away. But then when we actually performed it, it was like, “Oh… right!” It was more than I thought it was going to be, like it was insane. We couldn’t hear ourselves. That’s how loud it was in there.
I share this quite often because I know there are a lot of people that have this experience or have had this experience where, like, I have ADHD, and I didn’t know I had it. Even for season one, I didn’t know I had ADHD. And before discovering that it made it very difficult for me to finish anything. Even though I did a lot for the show. It was very intense and very, like grueling. I think I’ve learned the process of taking care of my brain and my mind and mental health so that I can make sure I can deliver the things I want to deliver and also know my capacity as well, you know. So I think that’s been the process is kind of going okay, how do you achieve the thing you want to achieve? But also how do you make sure you don’t become a vegetable by the end of it? You know?

CARLY PEARCE:Hey, Billboard, it’s Carly Pearce, and I’m so excited to see all of you on June 7th for the Women of Country Panel. Get your tickets now. See you then!
TETRIS KELLY:Before you go, we learned some new slang from Goyo at Billboard’s Latin Women in Music.
TETRIS KELLY:That’s it for today. Come back tomorrow for our Friday Music Guide and we’ll see how well Saweetie and Baby Tate know each other.
Bad Bunny teased a new track on TikTok and fans are excited for his potential return to music. Billboard looks at which Britney songs are ruling her streaming numbers over the past 18 months. Luke Combs recently gave Ed Sheeran a life lesson in the quintessential American art of suds-based party tricks. And more!
TETRIS KELLY:Bad Bunny teases new music and puts his romance on display. We run down Britney’s success while on hiatus. Luke Combs teaches Ed Sheeran a classic American tradition. We get to know Rita Ora a little better, and we find out who would be in Nicole Zignago’s ultimate girl group. Hey guys, Tetris Kelly here for Billboard News. It’s May 17th and Bad Bunny has been busy. Let me break it down for you.
Bad Bunny hopped on TikTok to tease new music, and I must admit the track is a banger. After a melodic intro the beat drops and Benito couldn’t control himself. Fans are ready for the new track — and a change in his dating life. One user commented “Benito you need to drop this song and Kendall [Jenner] at the same time.” The two have been inseparable, spending time partying after the Met Gala in New York and hanging courtside in LA at Lakers games. Do you approve of the new music? How about Benito’s boo? Well let us know in the comments.
Now it’s time to talk about my girl Britney Jean. Fans still love Britney Spears. Despite releasing only one song in the past seven years, the pop star’s music still resonates. Billboard’s Jason Lipshutz joins us to discuss how her music is doing 18 months after the #FreeBritney movement.
JASON LIPSHUTZ:It’s been a year and a half since Britney Spears’ conservatorship ended and we were just interested in looking at what her streams and sales and biggest hits look like in that time period when people are just kind of experiencing Britney Spears’ music once again, kind of in a different reality of post-conservatorship Britney.
TETRIS KELLY:I was surprised to learn ‘Toxic’ has become Britney’s biggest streaming hit over the past year.
JASON LIPSHUTZ:It peaked at No. 9 on the Hot 100, but aside from ‘Hold Me Closer,’ her newest single, it was her most streamed song over the past year. It was her most played song on radio over the past year, nearly 20 years since its release. And ‘Toxic’ is basically as strong as ever. It’s kind of the de facto biggest Britney Spears catalog hit at this point.
TETRIS KELLY:As you just mentioned, Britney’s only release in seven years ‘Hold Me Closer’ with Elton John did pretty well debuting at No. 6 on the Hot 100.
JASON LIPSHUTZ:People really love this song. It’s become basically Britney’s biggest hit in years and it was never a sure thing that that it was going to last beyond that first few weeks.
TETRIS KELLY:So Jason, tell me when can we expect new music from the pop star?
JASON LIPSHUTZ:There’s no announced plans for a new single or new album but one thing that ‘Hold Me Closer’ did suggest is that there is an openness to releasing new music at some point.
TETRIS KELLY:Let’s talk about international relations. The U.S. and the U.K. have a long history. We’ve got a new event to add to the history books.
ED SHEERAN:“By the way, for context, Luke is — what is this, shooting?”
LUKE COMBS:“Shotgun. Shotgun.”
ED SHEERAN:“Luke is teaching me how to shotgun a beer.”
TETRIS KELLY:Luke Combs taught Ed Sheeran an essential American party trick just in time for summer: shotgunning a beer.
LUKE COMBS:“You want me to go first or you want to go together?”
ED SHEERAN:“I think let’s go together, all right?”
LUKE COMBS:“All right count us down.”
LUKE COMBS“Be mindful of where your top is here right? Because once that opens beer’s coming out of that if it’s pointing to the ground, so you want this point in the sky and once you’re up then you crack the top and it’s just just gonna go.”
TETRIS KELLYI personally never had shotgunned a beer before, but I may follow those steps and give it a try
JELLY ROLLWhat’s up y’all it’s your boy Jelly Roll. I want to encourage you to get your tickets now for my show with Billboard on June 6 at Music Marathon Works in Nashville, Tennessee. Tickets available now. I’ll see y’all there.
TETRIS KELLYIf you want to learn more about Rita Ora, you’re in luck. We played a little rapid fire game with the pop star.
KATIE BAINWho has made you the most starstruck?
RITA ORAPrince was a moment for sure. I remember when he walked into a party with the most gorgeous twins, honestly it was like the seas parted and he just like walked through slowly and that was the first time I saw him but then we met afterwards.
KATIE BAINDid he ever give you any advice?
RITA ORAI think he just told me to own my masters. And now I own my masters.
KATIE BAINAmen, thank you Prince! Weirdest thing I do before I go onstage?
RITA ORAI warm up. And then I sort of like just hum but I’m alone. I have like 10 minutes to myself to just focus and think about the show.
KATIE BAINWhat is your favorite late night snack?
RITA ORAI mean pizza. I just love pizza. Who doesn’t love pizza? Or cheese?
KATIE BAINYou have an endless budget to start the ultimate group — who is in your group?
RITA ORAOh my gosh, I think Sam Smith. Yes, I love Anitta. Oh yeah, Charli XCX. Perfect, Nicki Minaj I mean, how big is this group because we like Beyoncé, David Bowie if he were still alive yeah and me! And the whole of BTS.
TETRIS KELLYBefore we let you go, we needed to know who Nicole Zignano would put in her ultimate girl group. So we asked her at Billboard’s Latin Women in Music.
NICOLE ZIGNANOBlackpink and Rosalia. The Bombastic Four that will be our name.
TETRIS KELLYThat’s the show, come back tomorrow where we’re interviewing Labrinth about his new music. I’m Tetris Kelly and this is Billboard News.
