Joe Keery has already solidified himself as a breakthrough actor during his run as heartthrob Steve Harrington in Netflix’s Stranger Things. Now, he’s officially a Billboard Hot 100-charting artist.

Keery debuts on the March 2-dated chart under his musical pseudonym Djo, his synth-pop solo project, with his breakout viral hit “End of Beginning.” The song starts at No. 51 entirely from its official U.S. streaming sum: 8.4 million in the Feb. 16-22 tracking week, according to Luminate. That’s a 194% increase from the week before.

Keery initially released the song in 2022 on his sophomore solo album Decide, but it recently began surging on TikTok. Billboard reported that over Feb. 16-19, the track earned 5.3 million streams, up more than 200% from Feb. 9-12 (1.7 million). The uptick was sparked by a trend in which TikTok users have taken the chorus lyric, “And when I’m back in Chicago, I feel it / Another version of me, I was in it / I wave goodbye to the end of beginning,” to soundtrack clips of Chicago or their own hometown. “End of Beginning” has been used in over 18,000 TikToks to date.

Trending on Billboard

On Feb. 9, Keery uploaded a video on his TikTok page of him riding the subway, saying he’s been “tokked,” referencing the song’s sudden popularity.

Keery has been releasing music for nearly a decade. He was a member of the Chicago psych-rock band Post Animal from 2015-18 and launched his solo career as Djo in 2019. He has self-released two solo full-lengths under exclusive license to AWAL: Twenty Twenty (in 2019) and Decide (2022). He has also performed at festivals including Boston Calling, BottleRock, Lollapalooza and Shaky Knees.

In a 2022 Billboard feature, Keery explained his philosophy about making music. “I say that [music] is a hobby because it’s a freeing way to think about it,” he said. “The second I start to get too precious with something, I inhibit myself. If you’re less worried about making mistakes, you might make something crazy or exciting. That’s what I’m focused on doing.”

Along with Stranger Things, Keery has starred in the latest season of FX’s Fargo, as well as the films Free Guy and Spree. In December, he made headlines when he crossed paths with Taylor Swift at Electric Lady Studios in New York City.

K-pop reigns over the IFPI’s year-end albums chart, as the genre scoops five of the top 10 spots, led by SEVENTEEN with FML.
Announced today (Feb. 27), FML is the boy band’s first IFPI Global Album Award, tallied by the trade association using worldwide sales across streaming, download and physical music formats during the calendar year 2023.

Released in April 2023, FML was the most pre-ordered LP in K-pop history, landing at No. 1 in South Korea and Japan, and debuting at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. Following its hot start in the U.S. (the album also led the World Albums list), SEVENTEEN reentered the Billboard Artist 100 chart (dated May 13, 2023) at No. 1 – becoming the seventh K-pop group to rule the ranking.

SEVENTEEN’s followup, the October release SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN, finishes at No. 8 on the IFPI Global Album Chart 2023.

Meanwhile, Stray Kids make it a K-pop one-two as 5-STAR appears at No. 2 on the IFPI list, and ROCK–STAR rocks in at No. 9. NCT DREAM land their first appearance in an IFPI Global Charts with ISTJ at No. 6, while, further down the chart, K-pop acts ZEROBASEONE (YOUTH IN THE SHADE at No. 18) and IVE (I’ve IVE at No. 20) make their presences felt.

Also, BTS star Jung Kook earns his first solo appearance on the IFPI Global Album Chart with GOLDEN, appearing at No. 14.

Though she doesn’t own the global albums chart, the U.S. pop superstar does score two of the top 10 best-sellers, with Midnights (No. 4) logging a second consecutive year in the top five and 1989 (Taylor’s Version) appearing at No. 5 following its release in October 2023.Earlier this week, IFPI separately named Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers” as the biggest single of 2023.

Christian Nodal is taking his mariacheño to Europe.
The Mexican singer-songwriter is set to kick off a eight-date European stint, as part of his Pa’l Cora Tour, that will begin June 28 in Zurich and visit other major cities including London, Paris, Madrid, Barcelona and Milan. Nodal’s trek in Europe is a significant moment for regional Mexican music in general, and a nod to the globalization of the genre.

“When we performed our first concert in Madrid last May, at the WiZink Center, more than a goal a European tour was a dream and you, my fans, with that SOLD OUT ended up making it come true,” the 25-year-old artist said in a statement. “Thank you for loving my music as much or more than I do … I love you guys so much, see you soon, I will be visiting you in your city so we can dance, fall in love and also have a shot of Don Julio tequila in the name of heartbreak.”

Nodal’s Pa’l Cora Tour in Europe — a mix of theater, arena and festival shows — will follow his Foraji2 Tour, which he wrapped in December 2023. The 31-date arena run in the United States followed his 22-date 2022 Forajido Tour, which grossed $14.5 million and sold 147,000 tickets across 22 shows, according to Billboard Boxscore. In 2023, he grossed $21.6 million and sold 259,000 tickets.

Most recently, Nodal won his sixth Latin Grammy taking home best ranchero/mariachi album for Forajido EP2. To date, Nodal is the soloist with the most No. 1 songs on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay chart, with 15 champs since the list launched in 1994.

The Pa’l Cora Tour in Europe is a JG Music production, Nodal’s father’s management, label and promotions company, in partnership with Spanish concert promoter Iglesias Entertainment. See the dates below for Nodal’s Pa’l Cora Tour dates in Europe:

Fred Again has done it again, dropping a surprise performance on Australians and selling it out in next-to-no-time.
The British producer, singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist used the Sydney Harbour Bridge as a prop for a social post Tuesday morning (Feb. 27), which doubled as the big reveal for his pop-up show later that evening at the Sydney Opera House.

The performance at the 2,679-capacity Concert Hall “immediately sold out,” according to Warner Music. Due to “expected high demand,” ticket hunters were placed into a queue to purchase tickets, according to reps from the iconic venue, with over 125,000 people waiting in line following the announcement.

The intimate show is said to be a special, one-off stripped version of his live show, with Fred teasing “no lights, one small screen, me, tony, and maybe the most beautiful venue in the world”.

It’s peak summer in these parts and live music fans are enjoying an embarrassment of riches, with Taylor Swift, Pink, Chemical Brothers, Matchbox Twenty, Goo Goo Dolls and now Fred Again among the big-ticket international acts currently filling arenas and stadiums across the country.

Fred Again (real name: Fred Gibson) has a special connection with Australian audiences. He made his live debut here in January 2023, performing sets at Laneway Festival, selling-out headline shows, and unleashing surprise DJ pop-ups that reportedly sold-out in under 5 seconds, including a set at Sydney’s 5,500-capacity Hordern Pavilion.

The Brit’s career has taken off like a rocket. Along the ride, Fred became the Brit Awards’ youngest ever producer of the year champ, and scooped two Grammy Awards earlier this month for best dance/electronic album (for Actual Life 3 (January 1 – September 23, 2022)) and best dance/electronic recording for his work on “Rumble” with Skrillex and Flowdan.

Starting out as a producer, Fred collaborated with Ed Sheeran and Stormzy, working his magic on U.K. No. 1 single “Take Me Back To London,” and cutting tracks with the likes of Swedish House Mafia and Headie One. His talent was rewarded last year when he signed an exclusive, worldwide publishing agreement with Universal Music Publishing Group.

U.S. audiences will get a piece of the action when Fred Again headlines Bonnaroo 2024 this June.

There were wet eyes in the room as the 17-year-old brothers sprung the nostalgic number, on pitch, and with a solid hug at the end.

“You’ve got the duo thing down,” remarked coach Shay Mooney of Dan + Shay, stating the obvious. “Man, that was a fantastic performance. From the first time I heard you harmonizing and I found out it was two people, I was like, we’ve got to turn around. That sounds amazing.”

That was the cue for a sales pitch. Brothers, come team up with the “brothers”.

There’s still room for improvement. “When you guys first started, it was super, super tight,” Chance the Rapper noted. “There were some parts where one of you guys got pitchy. And you guys gained control by the end.” He added, “as long as you guys are focused on how you interact with each other, you guys will have great performances and keep having success like this.”

The harmonies “could have been a little tighter,” remarked Legend, explaining his reasons for not turning. But hey, what an experience.

Reba McEntire felt a connection. The country star recounted her youth growing up in a “singing family.” Hearing the twins belt it out, “it takes me back to my childhood. I absolutely love your enthusiasm.” And, as she started her own sales pitch, confessed she was “really moved by it.”

In the end, it boiled down to a decision. The Garcias chose coaches Dan + Shay, who served as mentors in season 20 and made their coaching debut tonight, becoming the first artists to join the country duo’s team.

For the record, 1D was created through the vehicle of another reality TV format, the 2010 season of The X Factor, setting charts and hearts ablaze until 2016, when the group went on indefinite hiatus.

NBC’s The Voice is now in its 25th season.

Swing Fever is gripping the U.K.
When the calendar flips over to March, expect to see Rod Stewart and Jools Holland at No. 1 on the U.K. chart with Swing Fever (via Rhino), a covers collection gathering songs from the big band era.

Swing Fever leads the midweek chart, and is set to become Stewart’s 11th No. 1 album, and first since You’re In My Heart led the tally back in December 2019. Holland has never nabbed top spot on the Official U.K. Chart.

Should it stay on target, Swing Fever would see Stewart move up to 10th on the U.K.’s list of artists with the most career No. 1s, and into equal fifth among solo acts with the most leaders.

Meanwhile, Scottish rock act the Snuts slot in at No. 2 on the Official Chart Update with Millennials (Happy Artist), their third album. Millennials should give the Snuts a third consecutive top three debut, following 2021 chart leader W.L. and 2022’s Burn The Empire, which peaked at No. 3.

Taylor Swift makes Billboard chart history by becoming the first artist to spend 100 total weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Artist 100.
The Artist 100 measures artists’ activity across key metrics of music consumption: album sales, track sales, radio airplay and streaming. Using a methodology comprising those metrics, the chart provides a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity.

Billboard launched the Artist 100 in July 2014. Since then, Swift’s No. 1 run is more than twice as long as any other act’s. Here’s an updated look at the artists with the most weeks spent at the top spot (through the latest, March 2, 2024-dated survey).

Swift continues her tear atop the Artist 100 thanks to the continued success of her catalog. Her music generated the most streams among all artists in the Feb. 16-22 tracking week, according to Luminate, while she was also the most-heard artist on radio and the top-selling artist, in terms of both combined album and digital song sales.

[embedded content]

That chart domination results in two currently-charting songs on the Billboard Hot 100 – “Cruel Summer” at No. 7 and “Is It Over Now? (Taylor’s Version) [From the Vault]” at No. 18 – and 10 albums on the Billboard 200: No. 6, 1989 (Taylor’s Version); No. 7, Lover; No. 9, Midnights; No. 15, Folklore; No. 21, reputation; No. 29, Speak Now (Taylor’s Version); No. 31, Red (Taylor’s Version); No. 34, Evermore; No. 58, Fearless (Taylor’s Version); and No. 65, 1989.

As Swift spends a milestone 100th week at No. 1 on the Artist 100, she also logs a landmark 500th total week on the chart. She’s the second-longest-charting act in the list’s history, after Drake, who reached the mark four weeks ago.

Here’s a breakdown of the metrics contributing to Swift’s historic week on the Artist 100.

Streaming

Swift continues her record run at No. 1 on the Artist 100 due, in large part, to her streaming consumption totals. Over Feb. 16-22, Swift’s catalog garnered a combined 319.4 million on-demand official U.S. streams, according to Luminate (encompassing songs on which she has lead artist billing). That makes her the most-streamed artist of the week.

Her songs that generated the most streams in that span: “Cruel Summer” (13.7 million), “Is It Over Now (Taylor’s Version) [From the Vault]” (7.6 million), “Anti-Hero” (7.5 million), “Lover” (6.7 million) and “Karma,” featuring Ice Spice (6 million).

Radio Airplay

Swift was also the most-heard artist on the radio Feb. 16-22. Songs by Swift earned a combined 177.3 million radio airplay audience impressions in that span.

The songs that earned the most impressions: “Is It Over Now” (49.8 million, making it the fifth most-heard song across all formats, as reflected on the Radio Songs chart), “Cruel Summer” (48.4 million; the sixth most-heard song overall), “Anti-Hero” (16.5 million), “Karma” (10.3 million) and “Blank Space” (28.3 million).

Swift is also currently charting on the following radio rankings:

Pop Airplay: “Is It Over Now?” (No. 4) and “Cruel Summer” (No. 12)Adult Pop Airplay: “Cruel Summer” (No. 3) and “Is It Over Now?” (No. 4)Adult Contemporary: “Cruel Summer” (No. 1 for a fifth week), “Anti-Hero” (No. 5), “Is It Over Now?” (No. 17) and “Bad Blood (Taylor’s Version)” (No. 29)Dance/Mix Show Airplay: “Is It Over Now?” (No. 22)

Album Consumption

Swift is additionally the top artist of the week in terms of album consumption. Her albums earned a combined 297,000 equivalent album units in the latest tracking week, the biggest total among all acts.

Here’s a breakdown of her album sales Feb. 16-22:

Overall album sales: 60,000, the most among all artistsVinyl sales: 33,000, the most among all artistsCD sales: 20,000, the most among all artists

Swift’s top-selling albums of the week: 1989 (Taylor’s Version) (11,000 copies sold; it’s No. 3 on the Top Album Sales chart), Lover (9,000; No. 4), Midnights (7,000; No. 7), Folklore (7,000; No. 8) and Evermore (5,000; No. 15).

Digital Song Sales

Finally, Swift is also the top-selling artist of the week in terms of digital song sales. Swift’s songs sold a combined 36,000 downloads Feb. 16-22.

Her songs selling the most downloads in that tracking period: “Cruel Summer,” “Anti-Hero,” “You’re Losing Me (From the Vault)” (2,000 each), “Karma” (1,000), and “Love Story (Taylor’s Version)” (1,000 each).

It’s official: Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers” towered over all others in 2023, completing the year as the biggest-selling single on the planet, the IFPI reports.

The trade body today (Feb. 26) counts down the top 10 singles for 2023, with Cyrus marking her first appearance on the list.

The success of “Flowers” was a truly global one, as the single simultaneously locked up No. 1 spots in 29 markets around the world, and finished at No. 1 on the year-end charts for the U.K., France and Australia.

In the U.S., “Flowers” showed serious staying power with an eight-week run at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Those commercial muscles were rewarded at the 2024 Grammy Awards, where Miley performed the song and “Flowers” won for best pop solo performance and record of the year – her very first Grammys.

Cyrus can make it a week to remember at the 2024 BRIT Awards, set for Sunday, March 3 at The O2 in London, where she’s shortlisted for international artist of the year and “Flowers” is up for international song.

Presenting the latest award on behalf of the trade body, Lewis Morrison, director of global charts and certifications at IFPI, remarks, “Topping the charts in so many countries simultaneously, the song – along with its message of empowerment -resonated across the world and is the definition of a truly global hit. Congratulations to Miley and her team for this incredible achievement.”

Meanwhile, the reigning, four-time IFPI Global Recording Artist of the Year Taylor Swift is the only artist to double up in the IFPI top 10, doing so with “Cruel Summer” at No. 7 and “Anti-Hero” at No. 9.

There are first-time appearances for artists from Nigeria (Rema’s “Calm Down” with Selena Gomez at No. 2) and Mexico (Yng Lvcas and Peso Pluma’s “La Bebe” at No. 6), reflecting the border-crossing phenomenon of Afrobeats and Regional Mexican music.

All told, artists representing 10 nationalities (Canada, Colombia, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Nigeria, South Korea, U.K., and U.S.) impact the top 20, up from six nationalities in 2022.

“It is also fantastic to see so many nationalities and genres represented in the IFPI Global Single Chart,” remarks Morrison. “It is a wonderful reflection of the wide range of extraordinary artists that – working in partnership with their record labels – are finding international success.”

The IFPI’s charts capture streaming, downloads and physical formats in every country directly from the participating record labels, which is then converted using the trade body’s “unique” methodology to a single, global chart figure.

The previous winner of the IFPI’s Global Single Award was Harry Styles’ “As It Was.”

It’s early days in the U.K. chart race, though, as it stands Beyoncé should hold all the cards.
Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em” (via Columbia/Parkwood Ent) is “storming ahead,” according to the Official Charts Company, to lead the First Look chart blast.

“Texas Hold ‘Em” last Friday, Feb. 23 gave Beyonce her sixth U.K. No. 1 and first in 14 years, when it vaulted 9-1.
