Dua Lipa is the new queen of the U.K.âs albums chart, as Radical Optimism debuts at No. 1.
The runaway leader at the halfway mark, Radical Optimism (Warner Records) collects 46,300 chart units in its first cycle, the most for any British female since Adeleâs November 2021 smash 30, the Official Charts Company reports.
Also, Radical Optimism becomes the biggest opening week of any British act so far this year, eclipsing the 39,400 first-week total for Liam Gallagher and John Squireâs eponymously title LP, which dropped in March. The likes of Caroline Ailin, Danny L. Harle and Tobias Jesso Jr. provided creative input on the new collection, while Tame Impala mastermind Kevin Parker co-wrote and produced seven tracks, including the three U.K. top 10 singles âHoudini,â âTraining Seasonâ and âIllusion.â

Her self-titled 2017 debut peaked at No. 3 but has clocked 354 weeks on the Official Albums Chart.

With her latest leader, confirmed Friday, May 10, Lipa knocks off Taylor Swiftâs The Tortured Poets Department (EMI), down 1-2 after two weeks at the chart zenith.
Closing out the podium is Frank Turnerâs Undefeated (Xtra Mile), new at No. 3. Itâs the sixth U.K. top 10 appearance for the English singer and songwriter following 2013âs Tape Deck Heart (No. 2 peak), 2015âs Positive Songs For Negative People (No. 2), 2018âs Be More Kind (No. 3), 2019âs No Manâs Land (No. 3) and 2022 chart-topper FTHC.
Also netting a U.K. top 10 debut is Stereophonics frontman Kelly Jones, whose second solo studio effort Inevitable Incredible (Ignition) starts at No. 6. Thatâs a career solo best for the Welshman, bettering the No. 8 peak for his debut solo LP Donât Let The Devil Take Another Day from 2020. As a member of Stereophonics, Jones has eight U.K. No. 1s.
Finally, as ABBA celebrates the 50th anniversary of their Eurovision Song Contest win with âWaterloo,â the Swedish pop groupâs juggernaut Gold: Greatest Hits (Polydor) rebounds into the top 10, up 11-9 in its 1,149th week. Britain can claim a small part in ABBAâs early success. The group won Eurovision in Brighton, England back in 1974, though the Swedish entry received nil points from the U.K. voting jury. Viewers of the 2024 Eurovision final, hosted in Malmo, Sweden, were treated to a surprise on Saturday night when ABBAâs digital avatars were beamed to the studio from the ABBA Voyage stage show in London. The pop megastarsâ early breakthrough is retold in ABBA: Against the Odds, streaming in the U.S. on the CW Network.
Taylor Swift makes it three straight, as The Tortured Poets Department (via Universal) holds on for another week at No. 1 in Australia, while Sabrina Carpenter nabs her first leader on the singles survey with âEspressoâ (Island/Universal).

Two decades after release, the U.S. alternative rock actâs signature song is anointed as the biggest-ever single which didnât snag a U.K. No. 1.
The Killers were originally discovered by and signed to U.K. independent Lizard King, and were embraced by Brits as one of their own. âMr Brightsideâ was initially released in 2003 with a limited-edition 500 CD run, and was reissued in May 2004, peaking at No. 10.

Since its release, âMr Brightsideâ has accumulated 5.57 million combined units, including 1.066m sales and 530,340,000 streams, the Official Charts Company reports, good enough for third place on the all-time list of biggest songs, behind Elton Johnâs âSomething About the Way You Look Tonightâ/âCandle in the Wind 1997.â That streaming tally sends it to No. 5 in the list of most-streamed songs of all time in the U.K.

The OCC crunched the numbers and declared âMr Brightsideâ is actually gathering pace. Last year saw the track generate its biggest volume of streams, with 79.97 million plays, the OCC reports, and in 2024, combined weekly sales and streams are up 23% year-on-year.

âAdivino,â released April 25 on One World International/Warner Latina, traces its No. 2 debut on Hot Latin Songs almost entirely to streaming activity. The song logged 9.9 million official U.S. streams in the U.S. during the April 26-May 2 tracking week, according to Luminate. That sum yields an equal No. 2 start on Latin Streaming Songs, Towersâ highest debut, and it equals his highest charting song (âLa Jeepeta,â with Nio Garcia, Anuel AA, Brray and Juanka).

As âAdivinoâ launches at No. 2 on Hot Latin Songs, which blends streaming data, airplay, and digital sales for its results, it pushes Xaviâs former No. 1 âLa Diablaâ from 2-3, following its 14-week domination which started in January. The track marked the second-longest run at No. 1 this decade (Eslabon Armado and Peso Plumaâs âElla Baila Solaâ dominated for 19 consecutive weeks in 2023). Meanwhile, FloyyMenor and Cris MJâs âGata Onlyâ remains at No. 1 four a fourth consecutive week.
By reaching No. 2, Towers outpaces his career-best, as he previous topped out at No. 3 on the multi-metric tally with both âLa Jeepetaâ (Nio Garcia, Anuel AA, Towers, Brray and Juanka), and âCarameloâ (Ozuna, Karol G and Towers), a week from each other in August 2020.
Benito, meanwhile, scores his first debut on the chart since the Oct. 28, 2023-dated list, when he landed 19 concurrent debuts alongside the release of his Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar MaĂąana album, including the entire top 10, led by âMĂłnaco.â The track spent 10 weeks at No. 1 â the second-most of any No. 1 in 2023, trailing the 19 weeks of âElla Baila Sola.â
Notably, as âAdivinoâ becomes the third song to debut at No. 2 or higher in 2024 âafter two Peso Pluma songsâ Bad Bunny extends his record for the most top 10s, with 75.
On the all-genre Billboard Hot 100, âAdivinoâ opens at No. 63, Towersâ highest-debut yet. Only one other Latin song ranks higher: FloyyMenor and Cris MJâs âGata Onlyâ continues its winning streak, as it rallies 58-44 on the Hot 100 and continues at No. 1 on Hot Latin Songs for a fourth turn.
While streaming activity fuels the bulk of âAdivinoâsâ high start, sales assist its launch in the upper tier: the 1,000 downloads sold in the tracking week targeted for a No. 1 debut on Latin Digital Song Sales.
