Ten weeks after Prince Royce and Gabito Ballesteros monopolized Billboard’s Tropical Airplay chart with “Cosas De La Peda,” the song slides to the top of the overall Latin Airplay chart (dated April 27), up from No. 3 a week ago. The hit is the seventh single from Royce’s album, Llamada Perdida, the 23-track set that placed the bachata singer back in the top five on Tropical Albums after a four-year pause (No. 2 debut in March).

“Cosas De La Peda,” (loosely translating to ‘drunken matters’), shoots to No. 1 on the overall Latin Airplay chart thanks to a 27% boost in audience impressions, to 10.9 million, logged in the U.S. in the week ending April 18, according to Luminate. With to the almost 2 million additional impressions, the song wins the weekly Greatest Gainer award on the Latin radio ranking for the largest increase in audience among its 50 titles.

Further, thanks to its radio surge, “Cosas De La Peda” debuts at No. 46 on the multi-metric Hot Latin Songs, which ranks the most popular Latin songs of the week by blending streaming, airplay, and sales activity.

Royce and Ballesteros’ first team-up gives the regional Mexican soloist his maiden No. 1 on Latin Airplay. The new achievement arrives 10 weeks after he picked up his first champ on any Billboard radio ranking, as “Cosas De La Peda” rose to the top of Tropical Airplay on the Feb. 24-dated list, where it has held strong since.

“Cosas” is a cause for celebration for Ballesteros, who joins a select group of regional Mexican artists who likewise achieved their premiere No. 1 on Latin Airplay in 2024 among the seven rulers this year including a regional Mexican act (whether through a regional Mexican song or a collab outside the genre). Those new highfliers comprise Xavi, whose “La Diabla” led for two weeks (starting the Feb. 10-dated list) and siblings Leonardo and Angela Aguilar through their Becky G collab, “Por El Contrario,” for one week atop (March 9).

Prince Royce moves ahead with 17 No. 1s on Latin Airplay and breaks from a tie with Carlos Vives for the second-most champs among tropical artists in the survey’s almost 30-year history, where Romeo Santos continues at the lead with 21 No. 1 hits. Here are those chart toppers:

21, Romeo Santos17, Prince Royce16, Carlos Vives14, Marc Anthony11, Gloria Estefan6, Juan Luis Guerra

In its 10th consecutive week atop Tropical Airplay, “Cosas” continues to hold the record for the longest-leading song in 2024 thus far.

Just three months after he last commanded Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart, Bad Bunny is back in charge as his single “Perro Negro,” with Feid, jumps 2-1 to rule the April 20-dated ranking. It’s Bad Bunny’s 25th No. 1 and Feid’s sixth.

On the overall Latin Airplay ranking, “Perro Negro” moves ahead of Eladio Carrión’s “TQMQA,” after accruing 9 million audience impressions in the U.S., a 5% gain, in the week ending April 11, according to Luminate. As “Perro Negro” trades places with “TQMQA,” the latter falls to No. 2, after one week in charge, with 8.8 million impressions, that’s an 8% dip from the previous week.

“Perro Negro” earns the gold medal for its first week and joins 13 other songs that hit No. 1 in 2024. Notably, only three out of those rulers secured two weeks or more atop (including Maluma and Carin León’s “Según Quién” which ruled for four weeks between 2023-24) while the other 10 rulers passed on the crown after only one week in charge. Here’s the updated look at those 2024 champs:

“Perro Negro” becomes the fourth song from Bad Bunny’s Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana to hit No. 1 on Latin Airplay, following one-week rulers “Where She Goes” (August 2023), “Un Preview” (Dec. 2023) and “Monaco” (Jan. 27-dated list).

Benito’s Latin Airplay chart run began with the No. 1-peaking “Mayores,” with Becky G, on the Feb. 17, 2018-dated survey. He’s placed at least two No. 1s every year since then, for a total of 25 career rulers out of 47 entries on the ranking. Bad Bunny has the fifth-most No. 1s on Latin Airplay, with J Balvin in the lead with 36 leaders.

Notably, Bad Bunny boasts his longest-leading No. 1s on Latin Airplay through two collabs with acts outside of his core Latin rhythm genre: “Mia,” featuring rapper Drake, and “Un X100to,” with regional Mexican Grupo Frontera, both for six weeks in charge in 2018-19 and 2023, respectively.

Feid, meanwhile, boasts his sixth No. 1 on the radio ranking.

Elsewhere, “Perro Negro” rebounds 6-5 on the multi-metric Hot Latin Songs, which combines airplay, streams, and downloads, following two weeks at its No. 2 high beginning last November. The song dips 10-11 on Latin Streaming Songs despite a 1% gain in streaming, to 4.8 million during the tracking period.

Chileans FloyyMenor and Cris Mj achieve a significant breakthrough as “Gata Only,” their first collab, earns both artists their maiden No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart (dated April 20). The song climbs 2-1, four weeks after it hit the top 10 on the multi-metric tally and its subsequent entry on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 in March.

“Super happy with this achievement,” 18-year-old FloyyMenor tells Billboard. “I’m grateful to the people who have supported me since my beginnings. It was difficult for me to get where I am, but we’ve reached one of the goals I had.”

“Gata Only” pushes to No. 1 on Hot Latin Songs, which combines radio airplay, streaming and sales, assisted by a robust streaming activity during the April 5-11 tracking week. According to Luminate, the reggaetón tune, released Feb. 2 via FloyyMenor/UnitedMasters, registered 11.11 million official U.S. streams, that’s a 33% gain from the previous week.

Trending on Billboard

“Gata Only” is the first entry for FloyyMenor on Hot Latin Songs, and the third for Cris Mj. For the latter, it’s also his first top 10-charting hit.

That streaming sum yields a No. 34 debut on the overall Streaming Songs chart, a premiere visit for both artists, plus a second week atop the Latin Streaming Songs chart with the Greatest Gainer honors of the week.

First No. 1 on First Try: “Gata Only” becomes the 413th No. 1 in the Hot Latin Songs’ 38-year history. The list boasts 47 artists, including FloyyMenor, who have secured their first No. 1 on their first chart visit, dating back to Kaoma’s “Lambada” which dominated for seven weeks in 1990. Notably, FloyyMenors joins two other acts who have achieved the feat this decade: The Weeknd, through his Maluma collab, “Hawai,” which ruled for nine weeks in 2020, and Yahritza y Su Esencia’s “Soy El Único” for one week in charge in 2022.

TikTok Activity: Steady viral support on TikTok has also raised awareness of the song, concurrent with its rise to No. 1 on Hot Latin Songs. The track has generated over 3 million user videos to date on TikTok. Activity on TikTok is not included on the Billboard charts except for the TikTok Billboard Top 50, where the song rises 10-7 on the current chart. While TikTok is not part of the chart, the popularity of the song on the platform has helped increase activity of the track on those platforms that contribute to the ranking (such as traditional streaming services like Apple Music, Spotify, and YouTube, as well as radio airplay).

Global Presence: In the global realm, “Gata Only” reaches new heights. On the all-genre Billboard Global 200, it climbs 15-10, supported largely by 59.5 million streams (up 31%) accumulated worldwide in the tracking week. It’s the first top 10 for both acts. Plus, Cris Mj bests his No. 29-peaking “Una Noche En Medellín” (April 2022).

“Just as my colleague Cris Mj, I am super happy because we were able to take ‘Gata Only’ to a global level, raise our country Chile’s name and break records,” FloyyMenor adds. “Thank you to all the people who are listening to the song and dropping their videos on socials!”

Meanwhile, “Gata” advances 9-6 on Global Excl. U.S. chart with 48.4 million streams outside the U.S.

Back in the U.S., while “Gata Only” grants both Chilean artists their first No. 1 on Hot Latin Songs, Christopher Andrés Álvarez García, better known as Cris Mj, came close to the top 10 when the remix of “Una Noche En Medellín” (Remix), with Karol G and Ryan Castro, reached No. 12 high in Aug. 2023. Cris Mj also charted with the original version of “Una Noche En Medellín,” peaking at No. 24 in 2022.

Further, “Gata Only” makes substantial progress on the Billboard Hot 100, where it enters the top 50, rallying 74-48 in its fourth week. Plus, it re-enters Latin Digital Song Sales at No. 4 following its No. 14 debut (April 6-dated list).

“La Cumbia Triste” is a cause for celebration for Los Ángeles Azules and Alejandro Fernández, who each bank a new No. 1 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay chart, as their first collaboration ascends 3-1 to rule the April 13-dated list.

In between, “No Es Que Me Quiera Ir” and “Difícil Tu Caso” led for one week each last August and November, respectively.

In total, two other co-billed songs from Fernández have topped Regional Mexican Airplay: “Decepciones,” with Calibre 50 (one week, Oct. 2020) and “Duele,” with Christian Nodal (one week, April 2021).

“La Cumbia Triste” will appear on Los Ángeles Azules’ forthcoming 30th studio album, Se Agradece, to be released April 12. Two other top 10-charting songs previewed the project: “Tú y Tú,” with Cazzu and Sant Fe Klan, an equal Regional Mexican Airplay winner, for one week in charge (May 2023) and “El Amor de Mi Vida,” with Maria Becerra, which nearly missed the penthouse, reaching No. 2 last October.

The news arrives in midst of Los Ángeles Azules’ 31-date El Amor De Mi Vida tour which kicked off in Nashville, TN. on Feb. 13 and will take the Mejía Avante family to a double booking on Napa County, CA on June 1-2.

Beyond its Regional Mexican Airplay coronation, “La Cumbia Triste” rebounds to its No. 5 high on the overall Latin Airplay chart (lifts 9-5) thanks to a 12% gain, to 8 million.

First up is “La People II” by Peso Pluma, Tito Double P and Joel De La P, new at No. 2 on the multi-metric chart. The tripartite collab, released March 21 through Double P Records, traces its high entrance to strong streaming activity. During the March 22-28 tracking week, it generated 9.1 million official streams in the U.S., according to Luminate. Tito Double P previously came closest to the top 10 through the new single’s prequel — likewise with Peso Pluma, as “La People” reached a No. 12 high last December.

Further, “La People II” captures the highest Hot Latin Songs debut in 2024 for a regional Mexican song by artists who primarily record in the genre, and the topmost such start since Eslabon Armado and Peso Pluma’s “Ella Baila Sola” also premiered at No. 2 in April 2023. Xavi totals three installments in the Hot Latin Songs top 10, as “La Diabla” holds strong for a 13th week No. 1 – the most this year and the seventh-most this decade – and “La Víctima” dips 3-7, after reaching No. 2.

All three debuts in the Hot Latin Songs top 10 also enter the all-genre Billboard Hot 100: “La People II” at No. 69, becoming the first entry on the chart for Tito Double P and Joel De La P; “Puntería,” at No. 72, as Shakira has now debuted songs on the Hot 100 in four consecutive years (eight tracks since 2021) for the first time, dating to her first appearance in 2001; and “Corazón de Piedra” at No. 73, giving Xavi his third and highest start.

Shakira’s new No. 1 on Top Latin Albums follows the top 20-charting live set, Shakira In Concert: El Dorado, World Tour (Soundtrack), which took the singer-songwriter to No. 18 in 2019. El Dorado, her eleventh-studio album, offered her last No. 1, claiming the top spot for five weeks starting in 2017.

Shakira Becomes First Woman With No. 1 Albums Across Four Decades: As Shakira reclaims the No. 1 spot on Top Latin Albums with Las Mujeres, she banks her seventh No. 1 among 11 career entries, and her first in the 2020s decade, after she managed at least one No. 1 every year from 1998-2017.

Notably, with the new ruler, the Colombian becomes the first woman with a No. 1 in four different decades on Top Latin Albums. Only one other artist has achieved the feat: Alejandro Fernández, who scored an equal seven No. 1 albums during the 1990s (one), 2000s (one), ’10s (four) and the ’20s (one).

‘Puntería’s’ Marksmanship Blasts Shakira To Different Orbit Across Songs Charts: On the songs realm, Las Mujeres parades three new cuts on the multi-metric Hot Latin Songs chart: “Puntería,” with Cardi B, leads the new recruits, launching at No. 3 –Shakira’s highest debut since “TQG,” with Karol G, debuted at No. 1 on the chart-dated March 11, 2023. The chart ranks the most popular Latin songs of the week by blending streaming, airplay, and sales data.

“Puntería” opens at No. 3 on Hot Latin Songs mainly on the strength of streaming data and strong radio support. The album’s eighth single logged 6.6 million official U.S. streams during the same tracking week, enough to shoot the collab to a No. 6 start on Latin Streaming Songs.

“Puntería” also sold 3,000 digital downloads in the same period, sparking a No. 1 start on Latin Digital Song Sales and a No. 10 start on the overall Digital Song Sales survey.

In sum, 24 of her songs have led the Latin pop ranking, the most for any woman since the chart’s inception in 1994, where Enrique Iglesias continues to rule with 25 No. 1s.

“No Es Normal” rolls into the top spot, from No. 5 a week ago, thanks to a 21% gain in audience impressions, to 9.64 million, earned in the U.S. during the March 1-7 tracking week, according to Luminate.

With “Normal,” both Nacho and Maffio check into the penthouse for the first time. While Nacho surpassed the No. 3-peaking “Bailame” (November 2017), his best ranking thus far, Maffio bests his highest-charting entry to date, “No Tengo Dinero,” which reached No. 29 in Oct. 2013.

Venesti, meanwhile, captures his second No. 1 on Latin Airplay, and first through a collaboration. He previously ruled unaccompanied by any other act for one week with “Umaye” last October.

Beyond its Latin Airplay command, “Normal” remains steady atop Latin Pop Airplay for a ninth week in charge. The song reached the pinnacle on the Latin pop radio ranking on the Jan. 13-dated tally when it earned the tripartite team-up their first No. 1 there.

Notably, out of the three, Nacho is the only act to have reached the top 10 on Latin Pop Airplay before “Normal.” He nearly missed the No. 1 slot when “Bailame” reached No. 2 in 2017. In between, the Venezuelan secured a second top 10 through another collab, the No. 7-peaking “Déjalo,” with Manuel Turizo in 2019.
