Ice-T Receives His Long Overdue Star On The Hollywood Walk of Fame

Ice-T Honored With Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame

Decades after pissing off law enforcement with his classic cut “Cop Killer,” starring in cult classic movies like New Jack City, and ultimately becoming a fan favorite cop on the hit TV series, Law & Order: SVU, Ice-T has finally been given his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Over the weekend the OG Gangster rapper/actor was blessed with the honor of having his own star laid down on Hollywood Boulevard just a day after celebrating his 65th year on this earth. Joined by his wife, Coco, and their daughter, and some of his Law & Order cast mates at the ceremony, Ice-T accepted his star in true Ice-T form as he thanked his “haters” who motivated him to “be the best that I can be” and excel in his career.

He might’ve not killed Nino Brown, but he sure as hell killed that role in New Jack City. In an interview with Variety, Ice admitted that he never thought he’d end up amongst the legends on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and simply wanted to recognized as one of the best artists when he started his rap career in the late 80’s.

I would have told you that was impossible. When I started making records, I didn’t come into the music business thinking I would be a star. I was just seeing if I could get a fan base. I didn’t want to be the best rapper. I just wanted to be mentioned among the greats: LL Cool J, Run-DMC. Getting any “star” was way out of reach.

Well, he’s gotten his star and truth be told, it’s well deserved and long overdue. The man has been doing his thing since the 90’s and became a household name since then.

Check out Ice-T’s Hollywood Walk of Fame speech below and let us know your thoughts on him finally being cemented amongst the Hollywood legends in the comments section below.

Tini Delivers an Uptempo Set Punctuated by Cumbia & Dance Moves at Viña del Mar: Here Are 6 Highlights

The Argentine star was all energy for 90 minutes.

Argentina’s Tini stepped into her role as a last-minute replacement for Maná at the Viña del Mar International Song Festival with aplomb on Monday (Feb. 20). The 25-year-old former child star delivered an impressive nearly two-hour set with relentless energy, backed by a rock band and a dancing troupe of men and women while performing a string of her pop-urban hits.

The end result in her first Viña del Mar performance? Silver and gold gaviota trophies, depicting the seagull, symbol of the festival.

Here are some highlights from her Feb. 20 headlining set at Viña del Mar:

  1. Seizing the moment: Kudos to Tini, who brought to Quinta Vergara a stunning show and a impressive set with less than a month’s notice. The Argentine singer was confirmed just this month, after Mexican rockers Maná had to bow out of their performance last minute after a knee operation left lead singer Fher unable to perform.
  2. That opening number: Lots of effective drama with dancers taking the stage in outfits that resembled hazmat suits, then literally ripping one of those outfits off to reveal a dancing Tini dressed in black.
  3. Uptempo most of the way: Although Tini can deliver powerful ballads (as she did at the 2022 Billboard Latin Music Awards) and as she occasionally did here, the Viña del Mar show was devoted mostly to her uptempo fare, which she served with relentless enthusiasm. We were most impressed by her mix of urban pop with Argentine cumbia, a Tini signature that’s immediately catchy.
  4. The band: Tini has managed to finesse the art of combining rock and urban elements into a cohesive whole. While her dancers were the main event — they stayed with her in every song — her very tight rock band brought an added edge to her pop urban fare with live electric guitar and drums.
  5. The outfits: It was sexy, sporty vibes for Tini, who performed with three outfit changes, all of them track pants and cropped-top sets. She kicked off the evening in billowy black pants and bomber jacket that came off to reveal a high cropped top and toned abs. Then it was wide orange track pants and a cropped black and orange top with “TTT” emblazoned on the front. For the last segment, she came out pretty in pink, with wide, fuchsia leopard-print pants and a matching cropped top. The end result was sexy but hip.
  6. The fans: As the announcers pointed out, the largely young and female audience at Quinta Vergara Monday night had grown up with Tini from her days as a child television star. Tini gave back, walking into the audience early in the set to sing a ballad alongside them.

You can livestream all Viña headliner performances every night at 8 p.m ET here on @billboard, on the @billboard YouTube channel and on the @billboard and @billboardlatin twitter account.

Eminem Files Opposition To ‘Reasonably Shady’ Podcast Name & Trademark

US-ENTERTAINMENT-MUSIC-AWARD-HALLOFFAME

Eminem recently filed legal opposition to the name of a podcast that uses a portion of his famous nickname. In the filing, the Real Slim Shady believes that a burgeoning podcast, Reasonably Shady, will cause confusion as it pertains to his likeness and brands.

Page Six exclusively reports that on Feb. 14,  Eminem, real name Marshall Mathers, filed the objection to the name Reasonably Shady, a podcast series hosted by Real Housewives of Potomac stars, Gizelle Bryant and Robyn Dixon. The pair filed for a trademark to sell merch with the title of their series emblazoned upon the gear.

The outlet adds that Eminem believes the show’s title would confuse many of his consumers who know him as Shady, and it was reported that he also owns the trademark to Shady for use on merchandise.

Bryant and Dixon’s podcast launched in 2021 and they recently filed for the trademark for Reasonably Shady at the top of the year, hence Eminem’s filing this earlier this month in response. The hosts intend to sell hoodies, socks, water bottles, and other merchandise.

As Page Six shared in their report, a reply from Bryant and Dixon has yet to occur.

Lori Harvey & Damson Idris Hit The Red Carpet For ‘Snowfall’ Season Premiere

Lori Harvey, daughter of comedian Steve Harvey and the woman who lives rent-free in the heads of men who are threatened by women with active dating lives (I’m looking at you, Boosie Badazz), has recently made her red carpet debut with her new boo, Snowfall star Damson Idris.

Harvey and Idris announced that they were officially a couple last month, several months after Lori’s very public split with Michael B. Jordan. On Wednesday, the new couple was spotted together in Los Angeles while attending the premiere of Snowfall‘s finale season, according to E News.

From E News:

Making their red carpet debut as a couple, Lori stunned in an off-the-shoulder black gown as she happily posed for photos with Damson, who stars as Franklin Saint on the FX series.

At one point in the evening, Damson—dressed in a dapper navy blue suit—leaned over and sweetly gave the model a kiss on the head.

Their glitzy date night comes weeks after Lori’s 26th birthday, which she celebrated with Damson and friends at Lavo Ristorante in L.A. At the time, an looker told E! News that the pair “looked so happy.”

Aaaah, young love.

Listen, we all know Lori can’t step out for a glass of wine with a man without everybody getting all up in her business, but it’s nice to see that she doesn’t let all of that scrutiny (and misogynoir, if we’re being honest) stop her from living her best life with any male companion she wishes to spend her time with.

So, good luck to Lori and Damson, and may they both continue to excel together and individually.

Senator John Fetterman Admitted For Clinical Depression

Senators Are Briefed On The Recent Downings Of Unidentified Flying Objects

Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman is currently hospitalized and receiving treatment for clinical depression, a week after being briefly hospitalized for another issue.

According to reports, Fetterman’s office confirmed on Thursday (Feb. 16) that the Democrat had gone to the hospital. “Last night, Senator John Fetterman checked himself into Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to receive treatment for clinical depression. While John has experienced depression off and on throughout his life, it only became severe in recent weeks,” his office related in a statement.

While the statement didn’t elaborate on what prompted his decision to seek help, the senator had been hospitalized briefly at the George Washington University Hospital last week after experiencing a period of feeling lightheaded. Test results showed that there were no signs of a seizure or stroke suffered. The statement mentioned that he would undergo voluntary inpatient treatment.

The 53-year-old freshman senator has been through a particularly rough time up until now. Then lieutenant-governor, Fetterman suffered a severe stroke days before the primary election in Pennsylvania in May 2022. He would recover, staying off the campaign trail but winning the Democratic nomination. He still grappled with auditory processing and was transparent about his struggles. Fetterman would be voted into the Senate in resounding fashion over doctor-turned-TV host Mehmet Oz, who was the Republican candidate.

Depression is commonplace after a stroke, many doctors observed. Dr. Eric Lenze, head of the Department of Psychiatry at Washington University in St. Louis, remarked to the Associated Press that Fetterman is “interesting and heroic” for being transparent “instead of saying they’re hospitalized for exhaustion or trying to hide it.”

Fetterman’s health issues and honesty about them have sparked a new conversation within the congressional body about mental health and the need to do more for those suffering. “We’re living in a time of extraordinary stress and crisis,” Representative Jamie Raskin (D-MD) said in an interview. The congressman is undergoing cancer treatment and lost his son days before the January 6th insurrection. “We’ve come through a plague, we’ve had tremendous mental and emotional health problems.”

Drake And 21 Savage Settle Lawsuit With Vogue Over ‘Her Loss’ Cover

It seems Drake and 21 Savage have one less thing to worry about. They have reportedly settled their legal issues with Vogue Magazine.

As spotted on Complex, the rapper duo have come to terms with the fashion publication. In 2022 the two took the promotional efforts of their collaborative album Her Loss into their own hands. Along with a fake Howard Stern Show interview and a mock Tiny Desk performance, Drake and 21 Savage also photoshopped themselves onto a Vogue Magazine cover. Naturally, the stunt landed on Condé Nast’s radar prompting the conglomerate to file legal suit against the MCs.

Semafor has acquired an internal memorandum sent by Vogue’s legal counsel Will Bowes indicating that Drake and 21 Savage have settled.

“As a creative company, we of course understand our brands may from time to time be referenced in other creative works,” Bowes said. “In this instance, however, it was clear to us that Drake and 21 Savage leveraged Vogue’s reputation for their own commercial purposes and, in the process, confused audiences who trust Vogue as the authoritative voice on fashion and culture.”

Details on the settlement agreement have not been disclosed. Neither rapper has commented on the matter.

Tencent Responds to China Streaming Manipulation Concerns With New Year-End Chart

HONG KONG — Concerned about the impact that fake streams are having on the accuracy of China’s music charts, Tencent Music Entertainment (TME) has designed an annual chart that incorporates both streaming and sales data with votes from industry professionals, the company tells Billboard.

The new year-end chart, which TME recently released to the public in China, combines inputs from two existing charts, the TME UniChart and TME Wave Chart, which track weekly and monthly streaming data. They feed into the Tencent Music Chart, the year-end charts compiled by the China-based music giant, which operates streaming apps QQ Music, Kugou Music, Kuwo Music, and karaoke service WeSing.

The TME UniChart, which first launched in 2018 and has been featured on Billboard’s global website (billboard.com) since November, calculates listening data from China’s public radio stations and streaming data on TME-run platforms, including clicks, favorites, downloads, shares, purchases and recommendations. The TME Wave Chart, on the other hand, is compiled by scores and recommendations from over 250 industry professionals every month. (TME, which licenses the Billboard brand in China and publishes Billboard China, would not disclose its math formula for weighting its results.)

The new combined chart was developed to ensure the accuracy and fairness of the rankings, and to address growing concerns from music professionals that China’s music charts are subject to tampering, and include inflated streams and social media statistics, a company representative tells Billboard.

The issue mirrors concern expressed in the U.S. music industry about aggressive organizing by fan groups of certain pop artists to push them up the rankings. That has notably included K-pop group BTS’ fan ARMY and its agency, HYBE, which have come under scrutiny for BTS’ chart successes. (Both HYBE and BTS have rejected accusations that chart manipulation accounts for the group’s success.)

Chinese fan groups often engage in “data work,” which includes conducting online activities to ensure the high placement of celebrities on social media ranking boards,” says Dr. Celia Lam, associate professor in Media and Cultural Studies at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China, who studies audience and fan engagement. “Organized team-building activities within fandoms can include daily data targets – liking, sharing or reposting social media posts or using specific hashtags — to ensure the continued data performance of a celebrity figure,” she says.

China, the world’s sixth-largest music market, has dozens of domestic music charts, including some run by China’s state-owned broadcaster that have been operating for about two decades. But the country lacks an industry-recognized reference chart like the Billboard Hot 100 or Spotify’s Weekly Top Song Global.

Several established music charts already exist in China, including Global Chinese Golden Chart (jointly launched by seven largest Chinese-speaking radio stations), China Music Billboard (run by China National Radio MusicRadio), and Global Chinese Music under CCTV. There are also emerging music charts run by streaming platforms such as Fresh Asia Music Weekly Chart, NetEase Music Hot Songs Weekly Chart and QQ Music MV Chart, along with some hosted by social media platforms such as Sina Weibo and Douyin.

With fewer music listeners tuning into radios, charts run by China’s public broadcaster have become limited in their ability to reflect a song’s popularity. Music professionals have questioned the credibility of emerging music charts, as fans in China are known to mobilize in mass-streaming activities to push their singers to the top of the charts, preventing those charts from reflecting the organic popularity of songs.

Tencent Music says it wants to help weed out fraudulent activity and create more credibility for its own charts. Still, the move comes amid recent government regulatory scrutiny on TME for its potential monopoly stranglehold on the streaming market. Music listeners in China spent 70% of their time streaming music in 2022 on TME’s three major platforms — QQ Music, Kugou Music and Kuwo Music, the company says. TME had 85.3 million paying music users as of the third quarter of 2022, according to company filings.

Leveraging the huge amount of data generated by TME’s services, the annual rankings also offered insights into China’s fast-growing music industry. In 2022, pop stars Jay Chou, Yisa Yu, Lala Hsu, G.E.M., Mao Buyi and Jackson Wang took the top spots on the Tencent Music Chart. Rising stars Zhou Shen, Joker Xue, Liu Yu Ning, Xin Liu rounded out the top 10.

“Looking at the annual charts in recent years, we can see that the Chinese music market has begun to diversify,” Vincent Lee, director of TME’s charts team, tells Billboard. “Influential singers like Jay Chou, Eason Chan, and Karen Mok still occupy important positions in the music market. But the power of the new generation should also not be underestimated such as the very young boy band Teens In Times and Zhou Shen, who gained popularity through variety shows and original soundtracks of film and television dramas.”

Music lovers in China have also started branching into different music genres. Besides Jay Chou’s “Greatest Works of Art” and “Free of Worries When Flowers Blossom” by Zhou Shen, Chinese listeners embraced “You Are My Magic” by Taiwanese psychedelic rock band Accusefive and Cai Xu Kun’s romantic love song “Hug Me.”

Younger rising artists have also begun to win the hearts of fans. “Getting Warmer” by Teens In Times topped the UniChart as song of the year, while the song “Beautiful” by the boy band INTO-1 member Mika has remained on the chart for 52 weeks.

“Judging from the hit songs in recent years, there is less and less a ‘standard formula’ to musical success,” says Lee. “Different types of music have shown strong potential in China’s music scene, and popular songs have emerged from all kinds of genres.”

Boosie Badazz Cuts Ties With T.I. Over Dead Cousin Snitch Move

HipHopWired Featured Video

Celebrities Attend Brooklyn Nets v Atlanta Hawks

Boosie Badazz lives his life by a certain code, sometimes to his detriment, but he isn’t afraid to stand ten toes down in his beliefs. The Louisiana rapper just struck down a joint album between him and T.I. due to his Atlanta cohort using a dead cousin to duck a gun charge.

Sitting down with VladTV, Boosie Badazz minced no words about his feelings on T.I. pinning a gun charge on his deceased family member. According to Boosie, the act was akin to snitching or being a rat in his book.

“With the T.I. situation, if he did that, you’re a f*cking rat too,” Boosie is seen in a clip from his interview with VladTV.  “I don’t spare no motherf*ckin’ body. Because if you doing anything wrong, if you doing anything criminal-wise, and you cooperate with law enforcement, to get you out of trouble, that means you’re a rat.”

It appears that Boosie isn’t completely certain about whether or not T.I. did pin a gun on his cousin. In fact, Boosie says in the clip he thinks that T.I. was just sharing the tall tale to get views for his podcast series. Boosie goes on to display disappointment in Tip’s admission, saying that the timing of it couldn’t have been worse as they were planning to drop the album.

As result, Boosie is no longer interested in releasing the project. As we shared earlier this week, T.I. is set to release his final solo album, Kill The King, at a later date.

Check out Boosie Badazz sharing why he’s moving on from working with T.I. below.

Miley Cyrus’ ‘Flowers’ Leads Billboard Global Charts for Fifth Week, PinkPantheress & Ice Spice Soar

Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers” remains the biggest song in the world, as it posts a fifth week at No. 1 on both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts (dated Feb. 25).

Plus, PinkPantheress and Ice Spice each make their first appearance in the Global 200’s top 10 as “Boy’s a Liar, Pt. 2” jumps from No. 15 to No. 4.

The Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. surveys, which began in September 2020, rank songs based on streaming and sales activity culled from more than 200 territories around the world, as compiled by Luminate. The Global 200 is inclusive of worldwide data and the Global Excl. U.S. chart comprises data from territories excluding the U.S.

Chart ranks are based on a weighted formula incorporating official-only streams on both subscription and ad-supported tiers of audio and video music services, as well as download sales, the latter of which reflect purchases from full-service digital music retailers from around the world, with sales from direct-to-consumer (D2C) sites excluded from the charts’ calculations.

‘Flowers’ No. 1 for Fifth Frame, ‘Liar’ Leaps

Cyrus’ “Flowers” adds a fifth week at No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200, with 128.8 million streams (down 12%) and 45,000 sold (down 15%) worldwide in the Feb. 10-16 tracking week.

The song logs its fifth consecutive week of over 100 million global streams, becoming the first hit to start with that many weeks above that threshold since the Global 200 began. It passes Harry Styles’ “As It Was,” which tallied over 100 million streams worldwide in each of its first four weeks last April-May. Overall, “Flowers” boasts the best such streak since The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber’s “Stay” linked nine frames over 100 million globally in August-October 2021.

SZA’s “Kill Bill” holds at No. 2 on the Global 200, after two weeks on top in January, and Bizarrap and Shakira’s “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53” keeps at No. 3, after reaching No. 2.

PinkPantheress and Ice Spice each claim their first Global 200 top 10 as “Boy’s a Liar, Pt. 2” blasts 15-4. The team-up by the respective English singer-songwriter and American rapper, released Feb. 3, drew 60.1 million streams (up 67%) and sold 1,000 (up 59%) worldwide Feb. 10-16. The track is a remix of PinkPantheress’ original solo “Boy’s a Liar,” released in November. (All versions of the song are combined into one listing on Billboard’s charts.)

Rounding out the Global 200’s top five, Sam Smith and Kim Petras’ “Unholy” slips 4-5, after it notched four weeks at the summit in October.

‘Flowers’ Also Holds Atop Global Excl. U.S.

As on the Global 200, Cyrus’ “Flowers” tops the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart for a fifth week, with 99.5 million streams (down 12%) and 23,000 sold (down 13%) outside the U.S. Feb. 10-16.

Bizarrap and Shakira’s “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53” posts a fifth week at its No. 2 Global Excl. U.S. high; SZA’s “Kill Bill” rebounds 4-3, after reaching No. 2; Rema and Selena Gomez’s “Calm Down” rises 5-4, following two weeks on top in January; and Sam Smith and Kim Petras’ “Unholy” drops 3-5, after it dominated for eight weeks beginning in October.

The Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts (dated Feb. 25, 2023) will update on Billboard.com tomorrow (Feb. 22, a day later than usual due to the Presidents’ Day holiday in the U.S. Feb. 20). For both charts, the top 100 titles are available to all readers on Billboard.com, while the complete 200-title rankings are visible on Billboard Pro, Billboard‘s subscription-based service. For all chart news, you can follow @billboard and @billboardcharts on both Twitter and Instagram.

Luminate, the independent data provider to the Billboard charts, completes a thorough review of all data submissions used in compiling the weekly chart rankings.
