Drake, Harry Styles, Bebe Rexha, Lil Nas X and Kelsea Ballerini are among the slew of artists who have recently had their shows interrupted by the launching of various objects including phones, a sex toy and bracelet.

Ava Max was also slapped by a fan who rushed the stage, and another concertgoer threw their mother’s ashes onto the stage during P!nk’s performance at BST Hyde Park in London on June 25.

Adele even addressed the dangerous trend during one of her recent Las Vegas residency shows. “Have you noticed how people are, like, forgetting f–king show etiquette at the moment, people are throwing s–t on stage? Have you seen that?” she’s heard saying in a clip posted to social media. The “Easy on Me” singer, while striding across the stage holding a t-shirt gun, then added, “F–king dare you. I dare you to throw something at me.”

If 10% of Led Zeppelin’s Catalog Is Up for Sale, What’s It Worth?

If Helen Grant, the daughter of late Led Zeppelin manager Peter Grant, is selling a 10% share of the band’s music assets, as reported by Music Week and The Times, she’s in for a very nice payout.

According to that article, Grant owns not only an interest in the band’s record catalog and song publishing catalog but also a 10% share in other rights including trademarks, merchandising and other business ventures. When he died in 1995, Peter Grant, who owned a 20% stake in the band’s music assets, appears to have split that stake evenly between Helen and her brother Warren, leaving each of them a 10% share.

While Led Zeppelin originally signed to Atlantic Records back in 1968, in 1975 the band started its own record label, Swan Song, and began issuing its music under that logo beginning with its fifth album, Physical Graffiti. Like other superstar acts of its day, the band later negotiated to obtain ownership of its entire recorded masters catalog, not just the Swan Song records, according to sources.

It’s unclear if Led Zeppelin still owns the rest of the Swan Song catalog, which includes albums by Bad Company, the Pretty Things and Maggie Bell — and, if it does, whether Helen Grant has a stake in that and is offering it up for sale, too. At the very least, according to the most recent filing containing a list of shareholders for Bad Company Entertainment, the Peter Grant estate has a 20% stake in that company as well. It’s unclear if that interest is a part of any contemplated sale.

The Music Week article reports that Helen Grant has hired Ian Penman of New Media Law to shop her share of the Zeppelin assets. Penmen didn’t respond to an e-mail request seeking to confirm the potential asset sale. Warner Music Group declined to comment, while queries to other possible press representatives for the band went unanswered.

According to a list of shareholders included in the last filing from Superhype Tapes Ltd — one of the dozen or so companies affiliated with the Led Zeppelin principals that have filings in Companies House (the U.K. equivalent of the U.S. SEC) — dated July 30, 2014, Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page owns 80% of the shares of Led Zeppelin music assets, while Helen and Warren Grant own 10% each. However, in the company’s July 25, 2000, filing, Page and the estate of Peter Grant were each listed as having a 50% stake in the company, while Page and fellow Led Zeppelin members Robert Plant and John Baldwin [aka John Paul Jones], as well as Joan Hudson of the band’s accounting firm, were listed as directors of the company. It’s unclear how or when the percentages changed and if it occurred through a negotiation or an earlier buyout of a portion of the Grant estate’s share in the company.

It’s also unclear which Led Zeppelin assets fall under this company, although its incorporation document, filed in October 1969, states that it was established to manufacture, produce, buy, sell, exploit and deal in gramophone records, tapes, sound recordings and other sound bearing devices and musical instruments, among other possible business lines. On the other hand, as noted, Superhype Tapes appears to be one of about a dozen companies incorporated for Led Zeppelin that have listings in Companies House, although some of those listed companies are dormant. Consequently, it’s unclear which Led Zeppelin music assets fall under the control of Superhype Tapes.

Another Led Zeppelin-affiliated company, United Blag Productions, shows Helen Grant with a 10% stake, while the other three living Led Zeppelin members each have 22.5%, as do the Bonham heirs, collectively.

According to what appears to be incorporation papers for United Blag — filed under its previous name of Langwest on Aug. 16, 1974 — around the time of the formation of Swan Song, the purpose of the company was to act as managers for singers, musicians and other creative entertainers as well as to produce and distribute sound recordings of all kinds as well as handling pictures, films and TV show appearances of all kinds.

Regardless of the incongruent ownership stakes listed for the Led Zeppelin members for Superhype Tapes and United Blag Productions, it looks like Helen Grant is selling a 10% stake in the band’s assets controlled by those two companies, which would mean she is selling a passive royalty income stream.

Still, the iconic Led Zeppelin catalog remains a considerable economic driver — averaging just over 1 million album consumption units annually in the United States alone over the last three years. As such, Billboard estimates that the band’s master recordings catalog generates about $24 million in revenue annually and that after deducting for production and distribution, the band likely reaped about $21 million of that amount. If the recordings carried a 20 times multiple, that would give the Led Zeppelin recorded masters catalog a nearly $420 million valuation — 10% of which would be $42 million.

Meanwhile, Billboard estimates that the publishing catalog averaged about $10.4 million annually over the last three years. After deducting a 10% administration fee, that would leave $9.4 million in revenue for the band, which at a 25 times multiple would be worth about $235 million.

While that valuation uses a high multiple, which some music asset traders might question, that concern would likely be offset by the upside potential for generating additional revenue through synch licensing. While synch typically can comprise about 25% of a publishing portfolio’s revenue base, Led Zeppelin has been very selective in granting licensing opportunities, which likely has depressed the band’s overall publishing revenue. Billboard’s valuation model uses a much smaller percentage than 25% of revenue for synch royalties in extrapolating overall publishing revenue.

Regardless of the publishing catalog’s valuation, it’s unclear how Grant would be paid from that considering that the principal songwriters in the band likely each own their publishing, as well as their songwriter share.

On the other hand, it’s conceivable that the band, along with Grant, collectively owns its publishing, which would divide 50% among the four band members and the Grant heirs, leaving the other 50%, or $6.35 million, for the songwriters to split; or that Grant owned 20% of the publishing and the band members owned the remaining publishing stakes in each of the songs they composed. Either way, that could leave Helen Grant with a 10% stake in the publishing, or a 5% stake in the publishing revenue, resulting in a $15 million-$16 million valuation, if the Grant estate indeed does own a stake in the band’s publishing.

But Billboard could find no mention of a Grant ownership stake in the sole Led Zeppelin publishing company that appears to be an ongoing operation, Flames of Albion Music, listed at Companies House.

The last document for that company, filed on May 11, 2016, listed Page, Plant, Baldwin and the Bonham heirs — Patricia Bonham, Jason Bonham and Zoe Bonham — as shareholders, while neither of the Grant heirs are listed.

But there is still merch revenue, trademarks and likeness and image to consider. Billboard estimates that Led Zeppelin averages about $2 million in merch each year. At a 10-times multiple, that would arrive at a $20 million valuation, with a 10% stake translating to $2 million. (Collectively, Billboard‘s valuation for Led Zeppelin’s recorded music, publishing and merch is about $670 million.)

Zayn Malik Recalls His ‘Overexposed’ One Direction Years in ‘Call Her Daddy’ Teaser

Since his exit from One Direction eight years ago, Zayn Malik has become notorious for his reclusive approach to press and traditional avenues of music promotion. But as the star preps the release of his new single “Love Like This,” he is officially re-entering the interview arena.

For his first interview in six years, Malik was announced as the latest guest on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast on Tuesday (July 11). In a preview clip posted to the podcast’s social media pages, Zayn reveals why he chose this moment to return to the limelight in a more open way. “I feel like we were so overexposed in the band that that’s why I took the time that I have to not even necessarily do interviews,” he said.

It’s easy to see why Malik feels that way — from 2011 to 2015, One Direction pumped out five studio albums, four world tours, two concert films and a documentary, as well as collecting four No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 and six top ten hits on the Billboard Hot 100. Zayn ultimately decided to leave the group before the release of their fifth studio album, saying in a 2015 statement, “I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight.”

In the teaser clip for his upcoming interview, Zayn tells Cooper that he grew weary of the stereotypes being used within the boy band. “They just said, ‘Oh yeah, you can be the mysterious one.’ That wasn’t necessarily my personality, I’m just chill,” he said. “I know that a lot of people have high-energy personalities, and it’s just not the way I am.”

In 2020, Zayn welcomed his first child, a daughter, with model Gigi Hadid; in the episode preview, the singer credits his daughter for giving him the confidence to sit down for the interview. “Since I’ve had my daughter, the main thing in my mind is trying to be a good example for her,” he said. “That’s why I’m even doing this interview. I used to get a lot of anxiety around having a conversation like this, and I want her to look at me and be like, ‘Yo, my dad’s doing this!’”

The preview clip also featured Zayn embracing his newfound affinity for “dad jokes,” and gushing about how his daughter has brought “the color back” into his life. Zayn’s Call Her Daddy interview will be available on Wednesday, July 12. His new single, “Love Like This,” is slated for a July 21 release.

Colleen Ballinger Tour Canceled Following Child Grooming Allegations

Colleen Ballinger’s upcoming tour dates have been canceled following accusations of grooming and inappropriate parasocial relationships with underage fans.

The tour, which had already been underway before the allegations surfaced, was scheduled to resume on Thursday (July 13) in Boise, Idaho. However, while the tour dates are still listed on Ballinger’s website, when the link is clicked, the website states that the shows are canceled, as initially reported by The Independent.

Allegations surrounding Ballinger’s behavior with her fans first began in 2020, when YouTuber Adam McIntyre made a video claiming that the comedian had a personal friendship with him while he was just a teenager and she was in her 30s. He added that he would help with her social media and would be frequently put in uncomfortable situations, specifically noting that at one point, Ballinger sent him lingerie as a joke. At the time, Ballinger denied some of his allegations in a video.

The allegations resurfaced last month when another YouTuber, KodeeRants, who defended Ballinger against McIntyre in 2020, alleged that Ballinger privately shared screenshots of messages with McIntyre in a fan group chat. She also showed screenshots in her now-deleted video, in which Ballinger asked the group of fans their “favorite position,” among other inappropriate questions.

In response, Ballinger uploaded an unusual 10-minute video to YouTube, choosing to address the allegations through a ukulele song. “For what it’s worth, I never had any bad intentions but I do feel like s—,” the 36-year-old sang, proclaiming, “I’m not a groomer. I’m just a loser who didn’t understand I shouldn’t respond to fans.”

“Your goal is to ruin the life of the person you despise while you dramatize your lies and monetize their demise,” she sang, playing the ukulele and repeating a “toxic gossip train” chorus. “I’m sure you’re disappointed in my s–tty little song, I know you wanted me to say that I was 100 percent in the wrong.”

Babyface’s ‘Fact’ Finds No. 1 on Adult R&B Airplay: ‘It Will Always Come Back to the Music’

For the first time in 26 years, Babyface rules Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart without any other credited artists, with “As a Matter of Fact” advancing from No. 3 to lead the list dated July 15. The legend last led on his own with “Every Time I Close My Eyes,” a two-week No. 1 in 1997, and collects his sixth overall chart-topper.

“Fact” ascends to the summit after a 10% boost in plays that made it the most-played song on U.S. monitored adult R&B radio stations in the week ending July 6, according to Luminate. The new leader extends the icon’s hot streak on Adult R&B Airplay; his last four chart entries have all reached the top five. Plus, Babyface is off to a strong start with new label P Music, as his first two visits – as featured on Charlie Wilson’s “No Stoppin’ Us,” alongside fellow guests K-Ci Hailey and Johnny Gill – and now “As a Matter of Fact” have topped the list.

“I am grateful and blessed to have another [No. 1] song on the Billboard [Adult] R&B radio chart as a solo artist after 26 years,” Babyface tells Billboard. “I am thankful to still be here and do what I love – creating music. It will always come back to the music. Thanks to my fans and my team!”

In total, “As a Matter of Fact” gives the hitmaking performer, songwriter and producer his sixth Adult R&B Airplay No. 1. Here’s an updated look at all his champs as an artist:

“Never Keeping Secrets,” one week at No. 1, beginning Dec. 4, 1993
“When Can I See You,” two, Aug. 20, 1994
“Every Time I Close My Eyes,” two, March 29, 1997
“Hurt You,” with Toni Braxton, four, Dec. 14, 2013
“No Stoppin’ Us,” Charlie Wilson featuring Babyface, K-Ci Hailey & Johnny Gill, three, Aug. 6, 2022
“As a Matter of Fact,” one (to date), July 15, 2023

Elsewhere, “As a Matter of Fact” rises 23-22 for a new peak on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart, which measures songs by combined audience from adult R&B and mainstream R&B/hip-hop stations. There, the single gained 6% in audience to reach 5.4 million in the latest tracking week. In addition to his own track, Babyface has even more to celebrate: As a co-producer and co-writer, he shares in the success of SZA’s “Snooze,” which wins a third week at No. 1 on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay.

A weekly, 20-position version of the chart, covering activity from Friday through Thursday of each week, posts alongside Billboard’s other weekly charts on Billboard.com each Tuesday, with the latest tracking period running June 30-July 6.

The July 15-dated survey is paced by “Cream Soda,” the album’s leadoff track. The songs “Love Fool,” “No Makeup” and “Private Party” follow at Nos. 2-4, respectively. All four songs were newly announced as part of the wider tracklist reveal on July 2 ahead of the album’s eventual July 10 release.

The reign of “Cream Soda” follows EXO’s previous No. 1, “Let Me In.” Also from EXIST, the song was released in June and led the June 24-dated Hot Trending Songs tally.

The top non-EXO song on the July 15 ranking is FendiDa Rappa’s “Point Me 2,” with Cardi B, which debuts at No. 5. A remix of FendiDa Rappa’s “Point Me to the Slut’s” released last year, the new version was released July 7 after being teased on the rappers’ social media accounts beginning July 3.

It’s Cardi B’s second time at No. 1 on the chart, both times with features on remixes of previously released songs. In April 2023, she led as part of Latto’s “Put It On Da Floor Again.”

More music from EXO plus songs from MISAMO and Jung Kook round out the top 10.
