Lil Tay, who was reported dead on Wednesday (Aug. 9), is still alive.

The 14-year-old rapper and viral internet personality shared in a statement to TMZ on Thursday (Aug. 10) that her Instagram account was hacked. At the time of publication, the statement announcing her death has been deleted. “I want to make it clear that my brother and I are safe and alive, but I’m completely heartbroken, and struggling to even find the right words to say,” she told the publication. “It’s been a very traumatizing 24 hours. All day yesterday, I was bombarded with endless heartbreaking and tearful phone calls from loved ones all while trying to sort out this mess.”

She continued, “My Instagram account was compromised by a 3rd party and used to spread jarring misinformation and rumors regarding me, to the point that even my name was wrong. My legal name is Tay Tian, not ‘Claire Hope.’”

Taylor Swift’s ‘1989’: 9 Key Numbers Ahead of ‘Taylor’s Version’

On Wednesday night (Aug. 9 – 8/9, get it?), Taylor Swift ended the final show of this U.S. leg of her Eras world tour by making fans’ wildest dreams come true: 1989 (Taylor’s Version) was officially on its way.

The fourth album in the superstar’s six-part re-recording project would be her landmark 2014 album, which will be released on Oct. 27 – nine years to the day that the original 1989 was unveiled. 1989 (Taylor’s Version) will follow Fearless (Taylor’s Version), Red (Taylor’s Version) and Speak Now (Taylor’s Version); the lattermost just scored the biggest debut on the Billboard 200 chart of the year upon its release last month, while the first two topped the Billboard 200 upon their releases in 2021.

Although all of Swift’s studio albums are blockbusters to some degree, 1989 is especially indispensable to her story. With hits like “Shake It Off,” “Blank Space,” “Style” and “Bad Blood,” the album represented as an embrace of full-on pop music, after years of expanding the sonic boundaries of country music.

“The 1989 album changed my life in countless ways,” Swift wrote while announcing the re-recorded version. And along with the artistic growth that the 2014 full-length represented, the album’s commercial performance was downright mind-boggling, a particularly dominant professional moment in a career full of them.

Ahead of the release of 1989 (Taylor’s Version) release this fall, let’s dig into nine key numbers that demonstrate both the blockbuster performance of 1989, and why fans are so excited about its re-recorded version.

J. Cole Joins 50 Cent at NYC Concert, Calls ‘Get Rich or Die Tryin” the ‘Best Album of All-Time’

On Wednesday night (Aug. 9), J. Cole joined 50 Cent in Brooklyn for The Final Lap Tour and had high praise for the Queens MC.

After 50 surprised the audience with Cole’s arrival, the Dreamville general quickly dove into his 2014 Forest Hills Drive gem “No Role Modelz.” Afterward, Cole gave the G-Unit superstar his flowers while onstage together. “Can I say this before I walk off stage? If you don’t make some noise for one of the greatest n—as to do this shit, 50 muthaf–king Cent, Curtis Jackson,” he exclaimed. Cole doubled down on his admiration when he paid homage to his 50’s classic debut album.

Get Rich or Die Tryin’ is the best album of all time. I don’t give a f–k what you talking about,” Cole said emphatically. “It’s Get Rich or Die Tryin’ at number one, and it’s Thriller at number two, and I love Michael Jackson.”

50 Cent’s 2003 debut album Get Rich or Die Tryin’ is critically acclaimed and spawned a slew of Billboard Hot 100 hits, including “P.I.M.P.” and the project’s two chart-toppers “21 Questions” and “In Da Club.” The album is 9x platinum, while the latter shares the same accolade.

“My run was so uncomfortable that everyone would like to forget that it happened,” 50 told Billboard in his cover story earlier this year regarding his seminal effort. “That’s just the way it is with the artist community. I didn’t come in being friendly because I had to find a way into it — not find a way to be good enough to work in the community. The biggest compliment in the early stages was that artists felt like they’d made it when they got the deal. You had to earn the right to have the deal.”

Olivia Rodrigo Teases ‘Bad Idea Right?’ Music Video With a Mysterious Flyer: See It

Olivia Rodrigo is cooking up something sweet ahead of the premiere of her new single “Bad Idea Right?,” which drops Friday (Aug. 11) at midnight along with a music video.

In a mysterious flyer shared with fans via Rodrigo’s official text message newsletter, the 20-year-old pop star teases something happening at “Olivia’s place,” citing a fake address — 823 BLUE BLVD, SOMEWHERE IN THE SUBURBS, CA” — and a phone number. If you call the digits (which happens to be the same number as her Heartbreak Hotline), a garbled voice answers: “Olivia Isabel Rodrigo, where are you? I’m stuck in line for the bathroom and it’s taking forever, so just text me.”

The poster was also shared in an Instagram Story by Universal Music, the parent company of Geffen, Rodrigo’s label. Her official fan account also shared it on Twitter, writing, “premiere party tonight. olivia’s place (liv’s youtube channel). 8p pt. see u there.”

Another clue that the poster is in regards to a virtual music video premiere gathering: The bottom left of the flyer reads “directed by Petra Collins,” Rodrigo’s go-to music video mastermind. Collins headed the Grammy winner’s most recent video, “Vampire,” as well as the visuals for the singles “Good 4 U” and “Brutal.”

“Bad Idea Right?” is expected to arrive at midnight ET on Friday (Aug. 11), meaning that the virtual gathering at 8 p.m. PT will start one hour before the song drops. Following her chart-topping single “Vampire,” it’ll mark the second song to be released off Guts, her September-slated sophomore album.

“the song is pretty different from vampire & shows another side of GUTS that’s a little more fun & playful,” Rodrigo wrote about “Bad Idea Right?” shortly after announcing it as the next single. “cannot wait to share it with you alllllll. love to ya always!”

The “Drivers License” singer previously teased the “Bad Idea Right?” music video on TikTok, sharing a silly dance clip with her friends: fellow pop singer-songwriter Tate McRae, former Bizaardvark costar Madison Hsu and actress Iris Apatow. “bad idea right? video out on fridayyyyy,” she captioned the video, adding, “featuring my favorite girlz.”

6ix9ine Arrested in Florida After Traffic Violation

Tekashi 6ix9ine was arrested in Palm Beach County, Fla., on Wednesday (Aug. 9) following a traffic violation, according to NBC News.

The publication noted that the controversial rapper (born Daniel Hernandez) was pulled over when they “observed a vehicle commit a moving traffic violation” and that the vehicle “did not have a license tag,” according to authorities. 6ix9ine was then taken into custody for failure to appear for a July 12 court date stemming from a traffic incident in June, though he was later released on bond on Thursday (Aug. 10).

Over the past several years, 6ix9ine has had a few run-ins with the law, as back in 2020, he was released from prison after serving just eight of his 24-month sentence. He was sentenced in December 2019, for a slew of crimes related to his time as a Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods member, originally facing 47 years to life. Hernandez earned leniency in his sentencing because of his testimony against other members of the New York street gang, with attorneys for the rapper asking the judge in the case to sentence him quickly after two other Nine Trey members were found guilty in part thanks to 6ix9ine’s testimony.

The new arrest comes just three months after 6ix9ine was hospitalized in South Florida after three men attacked the rapper at a gym.
