8 Sweetest Moments Between Taylor Swift & Young Swifties on The Eras Tour

Many of Taylor Swift’s fans are kids, and many of them are adults that were kids when they first started listening to the country-turned-pop star more than a decade ago.

That means that Swift has 10 albums and six headlining tours worth of interacting with fans who’ve grown up with her, with the most recent of her treks being her international Eras Tour. And while Swifties of all ages have flooded stadiums this year to see the three-hour career-spanning production, some of the cutest faces at what is overall a family-friendly show (minus, perhaps, the “Vigilante Shit” dance routine) have been fans who weren’t even born yet when “Love Story” took the airwaves by storm in 2008.

That includes, but is not limited to, little ones belonging to other stars in the crowd — after all, celebrities and their children are Swifties, too. The “Karma” hitmaker has written personal notes, posed for pictures and given up pieces of her costumes to pint-sized relatives of Selena Gomez, David Harbour, Alicia Keys and more.

Known in the past for hosting fans at her houses to preview new albums, interacting with listeners on Tumblr and picking lucky concertgoers at her previous tours for intimate post-show meet-and-greets, Swift absolutely loves making special moments for her fans. “You’re all so cute,” she told her crowd at a Chicago Eras show. “I feel that way about a lot of you during the show. We make eye contact and you guys are, like, performing, passionately.”

“Have you noticed that too? You look around you, you wanna be best friends with everyone,” she added. “Yeah, that happens to me too.”

Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis Pay Tribute to Clarence Avant: ‘He Helped Us Understand Our Value’

Grammy-winning songwriting/production duo Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis first met Clarence Avant — who died Aug. 13 at age 92 — in the summer of 1982 when they wrote a song for his Tabu Records act, The S.O.S. Band. They famously went on to work with A&M artist Janet Jackson, for whom they produced the blockbuster 1986 album, Control, and its 1989 follow-up, Rhythm Nation 1814, among others.

The hitmakers paid tribute to Avant in an interview.

Jam: We wrote “High Hopes” for The S.O.S. Band. But we didn’t produce it. When we met with Clarence, we told him that. And he was like, “Well if you were to produce it, what would it sound like?” So we played him a demo of the song and he loved it.

Lewis: Yeah, we told him that we would have put the chili sauce on it. He cracked up; he really loved that comment.

Jam: I didn’t know a whole lot about Clarence before that meeting. But my first impression is of him making me laugh because he called us two thugs: “Who are these two thugs coming in here?” He’d get on a phone call and be cussing everybody out. He was just a character, so funny. It was like being in a movie: two kids from Minneapolis sitting in suits and hats in 90-degree weather, here in L.A.’s high-powered music scene. We were a hilarious anomaly to him.

Lewis: He was definitely funny and animated. But I knew he was shrewd and smart by the way he conducted the meeting; it was so comfortable and easy. It was different from other meetings we’d had with people wanting to hire us. But what really struck me is when Clarence talked to us by himself, without our manager. And he told us, “You motherfuckers need to learn to count. In order to make things happen the right way, you’re going to need this and that.” When he gave us more than we’d asked for, it established a whole new paradigm for me. He helped us reevaluate and understand what our value was. He put the official rubber stamp on it.

Jam: I’m glad his story got told in the Netflix documentary The Black Godfather. It only scratches the surface of Clarence’s greatness and influence. It should be required viewing as there will never be another Clarence in the singular sense. But there will be from all the seeds that he planted: a bunch of people with Clarence characteristics that will power positive growth across entertainment and other areas.

Lewis: Coming up through the ranks, fighting for everyone’s diversity and equity, it was important for Clarence to teach. His obsession was to do the right thing and force people who didn’t to do the right thing. That was what Clarence was always about. He was never about the rewards in it. I think Clarence was definitely pleased with his life. He had a beautiful wife and beautiful kids. He created some beautiful music as a label owner; inspired and crafted some beautiful deals. How could he not feel good about that? All we really have at the end of the day is our relationships. The one way that you can judge a person is by their relationships. And Clarence touched so many people in a beautiful way. Whether they were record company owners, presidents or executives, artists, politicians or just regular people. He touched everyone in a positive way.

Jam: One of the things we always tried to remind him of, though, were the connections that he had made that then led to other things that he didn’t know about … we were able to connect the dots for him. Like, “Did you know this happened because of this thing that you did five years ago?” Because he was involved in so many things, he couldn’t keep track of everything that he had possibly done. But I totally agree that he felt very comfortable with what he had done [in his life]. There were just so many people and things that he affected.

Jam: Clarence and Jerry [Moss] were also really good friends. As partners [in A&M Records], Herb Alpert and Jerry were certainly a blueprint for Terry and myself. They started with a handshake like Terry and I did. I remember back around the Rhythm Nation days when there [were] a lot of crazy negotiations going on for us to do the record. Clarence called up Jerry and said let’s get this deal done. Give these guys a million dollars. And literally the next week, the deal was done and we were in the studio recording.

Lewis: Jerry was an incredible man. Both he and Clarence were part of an incredible era of human beings. But they live on through all of us.

Jam: Whenever we win an award, God would be the first person we thank. And the next person we thank would be Clarence Avant, who was the earthly god for us.

Lewis: There are no words that I could use to adequately express my personal feelings for Clarence. But I always do simply say he’s the greatest man I’ve ever known.

“These lyrics were written almost 2 years ago at the beginning of my ESV. It was at a time I felt misunderstood,” Cyrus wrote in the caption, alongside a photo of the handwritten lyrics that features the chorus: “You tell me time has done changed me / That’s fine, I’ve had a good run / I know I used to be crazy / That’s ’cause I used to be young.”

The 30-year-old singer continued in the caption, “I have spent the last 18 months painting a sonic picture of my perspective to share with you. The time has arrived to release a song that I could perfect forever. Although my work is done, this song will continue to write itself everyday. The fact it remains unfinished is a part of its beauty. That is my life at this moment ….. unfinished yet complete.”

See the full post and lyrics here.

“Used To Be Young” marks Cyrus’ first piece of new music since the release of Endless Summer Vacation back in March. The album, her eighth studio effort, debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, and also arrived alongside its own Backyard Sessions via Disney+.

The song will be her first taste of new music since the Spanish-language EP Revelacion, which was released in March 2021.

Gomez reigns over Jon Batiste’s “Uneasy,” featuring Lil Wayne, which bows at No. 2. The song was released in full Aug. 18 as part of Batiste’s new album World Music Radio but was discussed alongside the rest of the tracklist in the Aug. 11-17 tracking period; more chart activity is possible on the Sept. 2-dated Billboard surveys.

Dolly Parton’s cover of The Beatles’ “Let It Be,” which adds surviving Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr as featured acts (as well as Mick Fleetwood and Peter Frampton), ranks at No. 3 after being announced for a Aug. 18 release on Aug. 13. If Taylor Swift & Ed Sheeran Won’t Play 2024 Super Bowl Halftime Show, Who Will?

The 2024 Super Bowl isn’t until Feb. 11, and while we don’t know who will perform at the halftime show yet, we know at least one person who won’t: Ed Sheeran.

The singer/songwriter did an interview with Andy Cohen last week and when he was asked about headlining the Super Bowl, he suggested he’d be better as a halftime guest than the main attraction. “There was a conversation a while ago — I think it was when Coldplay did it — of me going up to play ‘Thinking Out Loud,’” he recalled of the 2016 halftime show. “I think that would be the only way I’d do it, is if I was joining someone else.”

Someone else he might join would include friend and frequent collaborator Taylor Swift — but reports last week said she’s turned down the 2024 halftime show. And anyway, it would be pretty challenging for Swift to pull off that date with her international Eras Tour dates taking her to Tokyo from Feb. 7-10 and then straight to Australia for a Feb. 16 concert.

So who will follow up Rihanna’s headlining set and play Super Bowl next year? On the new Billboard Pop Shop Podcast, Katie & Keith are checking in to see who Billboard readers are picking in our Super Bowl fan poll and to make some suggestions of our own — including a possible Trolls-fueled *NSYNC reunion.

Also on the podcast, we’ve got chart news on how the viral hit “Rich Men North of Richmond” by Oliver Anthony Music storms onto the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart at No. 1. The previously unknown artist — who had never been on any Billboard chart until this week — now has the most popular song in America, following wide media coverage and strong sales and streaming numbers. Plus, friend of the podcast Kylie Minogue returns to the Pop Airplay chart for the first time in nearly two decades, as “Padam Padam” debuts on the chart. What was her last single to chart on Pop Airplay, and when did it happen?

Randy Rainbow Slams Donald Trump Over Criminal Indictments in ‘Funny Girl’ Parody

While Donald Trump plans to turn himself over to Georgia authorities on Thursday (Aug. 24) after being indicted for attempting to interfere in the 2020 election, internet star Randy Rainbow is making sure to take another shot at the beleaguered former president.

On Tuesday (Aug. 22), Rainbow unveiled his latest parody video, mocking Trump for his four indictments and 91 felony charges for alleged crimes ranging from mishandling classified information to RICO violations. As Rainbow puts it in a faux interview with Trump at the outset of his new clip, “Just nine more and you get a free mugshot!”

As the music behind him slowly picks up, Rainbow immediately launches into a song titled “Don’t Arraign on His Parade,” a cheeky parody of Bob Merrill and Jule Styne’s classic Broadway number “Don’t Rain on My Parade” from Funny Girl. Dressed in his best Barbra Streisand-as-Fanny Brice drag, Rainbow jeeringly applauds Trump’s full-steam-ahead approach to his 2024 campaign, while adding that “he can run, but he can’t win a race in handcuffs.”

Just as he reaches the song’s iconic bridge, Rainbow quickly switches gears to deliver a cheeky rendition of The Pointer Sisters’ “I’m So Excited” (with the lyrics appropriately switched to “he’s so indicted”). Popping on screen in full-blown ’80s cosplay, Rainbow continues to lambast the former president, singing that “he’s about to lose in court, and he doesn’t like it!”

While Trump may be facing significant legal troubles in the immediate future, his popularity among Republican voters remains as strong as ever — in a recent New York Times/Siena College poll, Trump held a 37 percentage point lead over his nearest Republican challenger, Ron DeSantis, while all other potential candidates failed to garner more than 3 percent support.

Check out Randy Rainbow’s latest parody video above.

National Cinema Day Is Back! Where to Buy $4 Tickets to ‘Barbie,’ ‘Oppenheimer’ & Other Must-Watch Movies

All products and services featured are independently chosen by editors. However, Billboard may receive a commission on orders placed through its retail links, and the retailer may receive certain auditable data for accounting purposes.

Movie tickets just got cheaper — at least for a day. If you haven’t seen Barbie, Oppenheimer and more of the year’s biggest films on the big screen, you can watch them for just $4 during National Cinema Day.

The annual event, launched last year by the Cinema Foundation, returns on Sunday (Aug. 27). For one day only, moviegoers will get the opportunity to watch or rewatch movies in theaters for one low ticket price.

‘Barbie’ Movie Funko Pops: Where to Buy the Adorable Collectibles Before They Sell Out

National Cinema Day 2023 celebrates “the power of movies to bring us all together,” the organization said in a statement, per USA Today. More than 3,000 theaters will be participating in National Cinema Day, including AMC, Regal and Cinemark.

How to Buy National Cinema Day Tickets Online for $4

You don’t have to wait until the weekend to buy your tickets for National Cinema Day. Purchase advance tickets online through Fandango, in addition to AMC Theaters, Cinepolis, Regal Cinemas, Cinemark and other movie theaters.

Fandango National Cinema Day Tickets

$4

Most of the websites of the participating theaters put up “National Cinema Day” banners on the homepage, but you might have to enter the information in manually, depending on the website or app.

To get started, select the film of your choosing and set the date to Aug. 27. Changing the date should automatically drop the ticket price to $4. The discount applies to matinee and regular-priced tickets.

Be sure to check with the movie theater or ticket website if you’re not sure how many $4 tickets you can purchase at once. Fandango, for example, allows you to purchase up to nine tickets at a time.

In addition to $4 movie tickets, AMC and other participating theaters will be offering National Cinema Day deals on drinks, popcorn and candy.

Cinemark National Cinema Day Tickets

$4

With Barbie and Oppenheimer ruling the box office, the one-day ticket haul could add a significant boost to what has already been a historic box-office run for both films, and a ticket spike for some of the other big-budget movies that didn’t perform as well, such as Blue Beetle, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part I.

“Following the rousing success of the first annual National Cinema Day, we welcome everyone to join us for the communal experience of one of America’s favorite past times,” Jackie Brenneman, president of The Cinema Foundation told Deadline.

Which new movies are debuting this weekend? Some of the new releases include Bottoms, Gran Turismo: Based on a True Story, The Hill, Golda and Retribution. The Little Mermaid will also be returning to theaters as a sing-along film for National Cinema Day.

Other movies currently in theaters: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Meg 2, Elemental, Theater Camp, Strays, Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse and The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

If you’re unable to make it out to theaters for National Cinema Day, most of the films featured are available to stream on-demand. Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse, The Little Mermaid, Super Mario Bros., Elemental and more are available to rent on Prime Video (Super Mario Bros. is also streaming for free on Peacock) and other digital platforms. Barbie will arrive on digital platforms in Sept. 5.

Idina Menzel Hasn’t Been Managed by Scooter Braun for Months

Idina Menzel parted with manager Scooter Braun at the beginning of the year, sources close to the situation tell Billboard, adding the actress and recording artist to the growing list of Braun’s clients who have recently departed his management company, SB Projects. Another source says the “amicable” split happened last year.

Menzel announced she had signed with Braun in May 2019. The confirmation of her departure follows news that Demi Lovato and Ariana Grande also exited their deals with SB Projects this year.

News of the split was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Representatives for Menzel and Braun declined to comment.

Menzel is known for her roles in such Broadway productions as Rent and Wicked (for which she won a Tony) as well as her voice performances in both installments of Disney’s Frozen series. In 2014, she scored a top five hit on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Let It Go” from the first Frozen movie. Her recent acting roles include the Disney+ live-action musical Disenchanted and Amazon Studios’ Cinderella starring Camila Cabello. She released her seventh studio album, Drama Queen, on Friday (Aug. 18).

In 2021, Braun sold SB Projects’ parent company Ithaca Holdings to South Korean entertainment conglomerate HYBE, under which SB Projects has continued to operate. Braun is now HYBE America’s CEO and earlier this year helped oversee HYBE’s purchase of leading hip-hop label Quality Control.

SB Projects’ artist roster currently includes longtime client Justin Bieber. Following a report Friday (Aug. 18) that Bieber was looking to leave SB, reps for both parties told Billboard that such “rumors” were “not true.”

J Balvin, who also signed with Braun in 2019, left in May and is now managed by Roc Nation.

Hot Latin Songs ranks the most popular Latin songs of the week, blending airplay, steams, and digital sales.

“Mi Ex Tenía Razón” leads the new haul bursting in at No. 1. The song traces its high start to 15 million official U.S. streams earned in the week ending Aug. 17, according to Luminate.
