Beyoncé Improvised a Voices Reference for Tia Mowry at Renaissance Show: See How She Reacted

Tia Mowry was left blown away by Beyoncé after the pop superstar improvised an impressive tribute to the 45-year-old actress’ childhood singing group Voices, just seconds after spotting Mowry in the Monday (Sept. 4) Renaissance World Tour audience.

The on-the-fly tribute came as Bey was singing “1 + 1” onstage, during which she clocked Mowry enjoying the show. After blowing Mowry a kiss, she seamlessly inserted a snippet of Voices’ 1992 song “Yeah, Yeah, Yeah!” into her performance without even a second of pause: “Yeah, yeah, yeah, the boy makes me say.”

“From the beginning, Beyoncé’s undeniable talent is only rivaled by her incredible kindness and generosity,” Mowry wrote on Instagram after the concert, sharing a Destiny’s Child era photo of her meeting Bey with her twin sister and Voices bandmate Tamera Mowry. “You can truly see how amazing and detailed an artist she is, and how much thought and love was put into this show.”

The Sister, Sister alum also shared a snap of her metallic concert outfit, as well as a clip of her dancing along to the show. “The highlight of the night was when she saw me in the crowd, and she gave me a smile and a hello, and then started singing ‘yeah, yeah, yeah’ from when @tameramowrytwo and I were in the singing group, Voices!” she continued. “I was so touched by her gesture, and I still can’t believe that it truly happened!”

“She’s a true icon, who continuously inspires me with her talent, dedication, humility, and beautiful spirit,” Mowry added.

The Twitches actress was just one of many stars who showed up to Beyoncé’s Monday concert in their best silver attire, with Lizzo, Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry and Adele all spotted by fans in the audience that night at SoFi Stadium. Some of Hollywood’s most famous couples were also in attendance, including Zendaya and Tom Holland, Justin and Hailey Bieber, and, making their public debut as a pair, Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner.

The show just so happened to coincide with Bey’s 42nd birthday, for which none other than Diana Ross came onstage as a surprise guest to help celebrate. The 79-year-old legend led the crowd in singing “Happy Birthday” to the “Break My Soul” musician, who also commemorated the night with an emotional speech thanking her fans, family and former Destiny’s Child bandmates.

The Rolling Stones’ First Album of New Songs in 18 Years Promises ‘Damn Funky Riffs’ and Lady Gaga

LONDON — The Rolling Stones unveiled details of their first studio album of original material in 18 years — and the band’s first since the death of drummer Charlie Watts – at a packed-out press conference in London on Wednesday (Sept. 6).

Hackney Diamonds, the group’s 24th studio album, will be released Oct. 20, Mick Jagger, Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards announced at an invite-only launch event at London’s historic Hackney Empire theatre.

The event, which was hosted by Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon and streamed globally on YouTube, culminated in the premiere of the band’s new single “Angry” — a classic Stones-style rock tune built around a funky guitar riff, catchy chorus and Jagger’s instantly recognizable yelped vocals — and its accompanying video starring Emmy-nominated actress Sydney Sweeney (The White Lotus, Euphoria), who was at the launch.

Hackney Diamonds is the Stones’ first studio album of new songs since 2005’s A Bigger Bang.

Talking about the 12-track record, which features two songs the band recorded with drummer Charlie Watts in 2019, Richards paid tribute to his former band mate, who died in 2021 aged 80.

“Ever since Charlie’s gone, it’s been different. He’s number four. Of course, he’s missed,” said Richards.

The guitarist said that Watts had personally recommended drummer Steve Jordan, who toured with the band last year and plays on 10 tracks on Hackney Diamonds, to replace him if ever “anything should happen to him.”

“It would have been a lot harder without Charlie’s blessing,” Richards, wearing a trademark trilby hat and dark glasses, told Fallon.

Referring to the almost two-decade-long gap between the new album and A Bigger Bang, Jagger pointed out that the band has “been on the road most of the time,” but joked, “maybe we were a bit too lazy.”

The 80-year-old singer said he got together with Richards and Wood just before Christmas last year and gave themselves a deadline of Valentine’s Day to make “a go of” a new record.

23 tracks were recorded in total, said Jagger, before the group settled on the final 12 songs. Track titles revealed by Fallon included “Mess It Up,” “Whole Wide World,” “Live By The Sword and “Depending On You,” which Jagger said was about “relying on someone and they let you down.”

Another song entitled “Sweet Sound Of Heaven” features Lady Gaga, one of a number of superstar musicians rumoured to feature on the LP, the group confirmed.

The Rolling Stones’ original bassist Bill Wyman also plays on one track, Jagger confirmed, while Richards sings “Tell Me Straight,” although he confessed “I have no idea what it’s about.” Hackney Diamonds was produced by Andrew Watt, who Jagger said, “kicked us up the arse.”

The singer — who was in jovial mood, joking with his bandmates and Fallon throughout the press conference and at one point joined the host in an impromptu version of 1965’s “Off The Hook” — said the mood of the album was “angry” and “eclectic” and spanned a range of genres, including love songs and ballads.

Richards said alternative titles they considered for the album included “Hit And Run” and “Smash And Grab” before the trio agreed upon Hackney Diamonds – a reference to the London district of Hackney, where the launch took place. The band choose the title as they are “a London band,” said Richards.

“I don’t want to be big-headed, but we wouldn’t have put this album out if we hadn’t really liked it,” Jagger told the audience, made up of media and journalists from around the world.

“We said we had to make a record we really love ourselves,” said the vocalist. “We are quite pleased with it. We are not big-headed about it, but we hope you all like it.”

Richards said that the album contained a collection of “damn funky riffs.”

According to a press release from the Rolling Stones’ label Universal Music Group/Geffen, Hackney Diamonds was recorded in various locations around the world, including Los Angeles’ Henson Recording Studios, London’s Metropolis Studios and New York’s Electric Lady Studios and The Hit Factory/Germano Studios.

Here Are All the Performers & Presenters for the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards (Updating)

The 2023 MTV Video Music Awards are starting to take shape. The show will air live from Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., on Tuesday, Sept. 12, at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Shakira and Sean “Diddy” Combs are slated to receive the top honorary awards: the Video Vanguard Award and the Global Icon Award, respectively. Both artists will also perform on the show for the first time in more than 15 years.

The VMAs’ host has yet to be named, but MTV announced Wednesday (Sept. 6) that Saweetie will host a 90-minute pre-show, with assists from Nessa, Dometi Pongo and Kevan Kenney. The pre-show airs live from 6:30 to 8 p.m. ET/PT on MTV, MTV2, CMT and Logo.

MTV also announced the first wave of presenters for the main show. More presenters and performers will be added to this list as they are announced.

Shakira will become the first South American artist to receive the Video Vanguard Award. Women have thoroughly dominated this category in recent years. Shakira follows Rihanna (2016), P!nk (2017), Jennifer Lopez (2018), Missy Elliott (2019) and Nicki Minaj (2022). There was no recipient in 2020-21. The last man to win the award was Kanye West in 2015.

Diddy is third recipient of the Global Icon Award, following Foo Fighters (2021) and Red Hot Chili Peppers (2022).

Diddy isn’t the only rapper who will perform on this year’s VMAs. Lil Wayne is also on the bill. And the show will include (yet another) 50th anniversary salute to hip-hop.

Six of the first 11 artists announced as performers on this year’s main show are from outside the U.S., which dramatizes how the music scene has become more global in recent years. Shakira and Karol G are both from Colombia; Stray Kids and TOMORROW X TOGETHER are both from South Korea; Anitta is from Brazil; Måneskin is from Italy.

This is a far more international cast than the inaugural VMAs in 1984, where there were five American performers (Madonna, Huey Lewis & the News, Tina Turner, ZZ Top and Ray Parker Jr.) and two Brits (Rod Stewart and David Bowie, the latter represented by a pre-taped performance from London).

American artists performing on the main show this year are Demi Lovato, Diddy, Doja CatKelsea Ballerini and Lil Wayne. The date of the show, Sept. 12, happens to be Ballerini’s 30th birthday, which shows that the country star is a trouper.

Taylor Swift leads the 2023 VMA nominations with 11 nods, counting three she received on Friday (Sept. 1) in social categories. She is followed in the total nominations count by SZA (eight); BLACKPINK, Doja Cat, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Olivia Rodrigo (six each); Kim Petras and Sam Smith (five each); and Beyoncé, Diddy, Drake, Ice Spice, Karol G, Metro Boomin, Shakira and TOMORROW X TOGETHER (five each).

Bruce Gillmer and Den of Thieves co-founder Jesse Ignjatovic are executive producers of the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards. Barb Bialkowski is co-executive producer. Alicia Portugal and Jackie Barba serve as executives in charge of production. Wendy Plaut is executive in charge of celebrity talent. Lisa Lauricella is music talent executive.

Five years after making a move, Pitbull returns to WME.

The Grammy Award-winning rapper, singer and songwriter is once again represented by the talent agency worldwide in all areas.

The Cuban-American artist (real name: Armando Christian Pérez) originally signed with WME in 2017, leaving 17 months later for an arrangement with United Talent Agency.

His new deal is inked ahead of the release of his 12th studio album Trackhouse, named after the NASCAR racing team he co-owns.

The U.S.-born star returned to the road in 2022 for the North American Can’t Stop Us Now Tour with guests Iggy Azalea and Sean Paul, and his SiriusXM Globalization DJs play to heaving rooms across the country. Next month, he’ll embark on a major trek with Enrique Iglesias and Ricky Martin for The Trilogy Tour, produced by Live Nation.

It won’t be the first joint trek for these Latin stars. In 2017, Enrique Iglesias and Pitbull went on tour with CNCO as the opening act. The trek grossed $38 million and sold 415,000 tickets, according to Billboard Boxscore numbers.

“With billions of audio streams and video views plus hundreds of gold and platinum certifications,” reads a statement from WME, “Pitbull has one of the most impressive careers in music history along with being a force in brand partnerships.”

Outside of music, Pitbull founded Sports Leadership Arts and Management (SLAM!), tuition-free public charter schools across the U.S, and he has joined self-help guru Tony Robbins, for numerous speaking engagements around the world.

Earlier this year, the Miami, FL artist joined YouTube’s billion-views club for the fourth time with his Billboard Hot 100 leader from 2011, “Give Me Everything,” featuring Ne-Yo, Afrojack and Nayer.
He previously reached the streaming milestone with his second Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 “Timber” (featuring Ke$ha), “Rain Over Me” (featuring Marc Anthony) and Jennifer Lopez’s “On the Floor.” “Give Me Everything”.

RBD Is Back! These Are the Stars Obsessed With the Mexican Pop Group

RBD‘s influence on pop culture is undeniable. Perhaps the most successful Latin pop group of the past two decades, RBD has moved the masses since it launched in early 2000s when it was selling out stadiums and arenas across the globe. Twenty years later, the band is doing it all over again with their 2023 Soy Rebelde Tour, marking its highly-anticipated reunion since disbanding in December 2008.

But even after its hiatus, RBD has influenced a new generation of artists — including Karol G, who last year invited RBD’s Anahí as her special guest during a show in Mexico City. The two powerhouses joined forces for an emotional performance of “Sálvame,” marking the first time Anahi performed live in 11 years. Onstage, the two artists even rocked pink cowboy hats, resembling the one Anahi wore in the song’s official music video.

Bad Bunny is another fan of the hit song, a ballad released in 2004 which instantly became a heartbreak anthem thanks to its emotional lyrics, backed by Anahí’s dulcet vocals. The Puerto Rican superstar posted a 19-second video on his TikTok account, where he’s seen singing part of the song a cappella. On the Billboard charts, “Sálvame” peaked at No. 27 on the Latin Pop Airplay chart dated April 8, 2006.

With RBD’s return to the spotlight, now as a five-piece (Anahí, Dulce María, Maite Perroni, Christian Chávez and Christopher von Uckermann), we’ve put together a list of artists who’ve proven to be the ultimate RBD fans. From Karol to Bad Bunny and Adriana Rios, see the list below.

Bootsy Bellows at SoFi Stadium Is Reimagining Concert Suites

Tucked into the side of Southern California’s new SoFi Stadium is a Palm Springs-inspired hideaway dreamt up by actor David Arquette and nightlife company The h.wood Group. The field level suite – called Bootsy Bellows at SoFi Stadium – is a truncated version of the West Hollywood bar by the same name (Arquette’s mother’s name) and more stylish than most sporting spaces. Decked out in velvet furniture, breezeblocks and gold-trimming, the suite is an elevated experience for NFL fans watching home teams LA Rams and Chargers, but the operators are stepping up their game for major concerts.

“No one’s really experienced something like that with the decor and everything, so it’s been very special,” The h.wood Group co-founder John Terzian tells Billboard about the reception to the suite. “If you can make people feel warm in a stadium setting, feel like they’re kind of in a living room, you’ve done a pretty good job.”

This summer alone, SoFi Stadium has hosted Twice, Morgan Wallen and Metallica, in addition to six nights of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour and Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour that just wrapped up a star-studded three nights. The h.wood Group has taken the growing demand for stadium concerts and not only expanded their presence at SoFi, but also made improvements over the past three years.

Bootsy Bellows

Timothy Norris

“The first season, you could only order like a burger, chicken tenders and fries – standard stadium food. People were paying $10,000 for a table to come to a game, they don’t really just want to eat chicken tenders,” explains The h.wood Group co-founder Brian Toll. Going forward the stadium agreed to allow Bootsy Bellows to take advanced orders to deliver additional offerings like sushi platters and Tomahawk steaks.

The h.wood Group also expanded their seating options for concerts. Instead of being limited to their large suite, Bootsy Bellows has been able to take over more space along the sidelines. For concerts, Terzian says, they can run an entire sideline of suites and, depending on the show, add seats on the field for Bootsy Bellows designed pods. “We’ve extended [the space] so that you have this incredible experience where you have your own little section with a couch and a high top [tables] essentially on the field itself,” he says. “That was a massive thing that we did from last year to this year. It’s all about viewing experiences and things that we keep improving.”

Bootsy Bellows

Wonho Lee

The ultimate appeal of the Bootsy suites, according to Terzian, is the level of accommodation. In a stadium that can hold up to 100,000 fans, The h.wood Group tries to simplify an overwhelming experience with an exclusive entrance, dedicated staff to get patrons to the suite and private bathrooms, as well as in suite bars and servers. The difference “has been our attention to handling any sort of talent that comes in,” says Terzian. “The whole idea is when you’re in there, you have your own bar, there’s a DJ going, there aren’t people asking for pictures. You have fun whether it’s with family or friends. It’s supposed to be a safe space.”

Beyonce’s Renaissance World Tour Birthday Concert: Stars at the Show

When it’s the queen’s birthday, you make it to her performance by any means necessary. And that’s exactly what Hollywood’s biggest and brightest stars did when they descended upon SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif., for the final night of Beyoncé’s three-night Renaissance World Tour mini residency.

With a seemingly endless guest list that included the likes of Meghan Markle, Viola Davis, Adele, Kerry Washington, Timothée Chalamet, Angela Bassett, Kim Kardashian, Lizzo, Zendaya, Quinta Brunson, Chris Rock and the legendary Diana Ross, a slew of stars came decked out in their finest silver and chrome fashions to help Beyoncé celebrate her 42nd birthday.

The superstar opened the show as usual with a stunning rendition of several of her signature ballads, including “Dangerously In Love,” “1+1,” and a stirring cover of Tina Turner’s “River Deep, Mountain High.” Before launching into a performance of “Flaws and All,” Beyoncé delivered an impromptu, tearjerking speech, in which she thanked her parents, her children, husband Jay-Z and her fans for all of their love and support throughout her life and career. “I just wanna say, I feel so full. My heart is full. My soul is full,” she gushed. “I’m so thankful, Imma tryna not to cry. I’m thankful to be alive. I’m thankful to be on the stage … I’m thankful to be able to provide a safe place for all of y’all. I’m thankful for music, and for the ability to heal myself through music, which then heals all of you.”

“America Has a Problem” remix co-star Kendrick Lamar appeared for the very first live performance of the track, donning a worker bee outfit to match Queen Bey’s custom Mugler bee bodysuit. The night’s other special guest? The Boss herself. Ms. Diana Ross took the stage to perform “Love Hangover” — a 1976 Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit and ballroom staple that Beyoncé’s backup singers perform at each show — and sing “Happy Birthday” to the most awarded act in Grammy history.

“I’m thankful that I’m here, at f—n 42!” Beyoncé exclaimed. And aren’t we all?

Beastie Boys Mike D, Ad-Rock To Celebrate Hip-Hop 50 With Unveiling of Beastie Boys Square in New York

Beastie Boys members Mike D (Mike Diamond) and Ad-Rock (Adam Horovitz) will be on hand on Saturday (Sept. 9) to celebrate the unveiling of Beastie Boys Square in New York’s Lower East Side. According to a press release announcing the event, the living members of the Rock and Roll hall of Fame rap trio — third member MCA (Adam Yauch) died of cancer in 2012 at age 47 — will join NY City Council member Chris Marte at the corner of Rivington St. between Ludlow and Essex streets for the celebration that will begin at noon and feature a guest DJ set by Jon Bless HiFi System.

The corner of Ludlow and Rivington will be renamed Beastie Boys Square in honor of the site of the cover photo for the band’s landmark 1989 sample-soaked second studio album, Paul’s Boutique. It’s a fitting tribute to the trio of teenage friends who formed in the city on Yauch’s 17th birthday and cycled through a hard-core punk phase before recording their breakthrough hip-hop debut, Licensed to Ill, what would become the first rap record to hit No. 1 on Billboard album chart.

The dense Dust Brothers-produced Boutique was a commercial dud at first, but still stands as a landmark in sampling thanks to its intense tangle of more than 100 samples, which range from obscure jazz to songs and pioneering early hip-hop to snippets of tracks by Rose Royce, Afrika Bambaataa, Paul McCartney, Pink Floyd, Curtis Mayfield, Kurtis Blow, Tower of Power, Public Enemy, the Eagles, Loggins and Messina, the Beatles, Cameo, Deep Purple, Johnny Cash, Jimi Hendrix and many more.

In addition, the album — which was recorded in Los Angeles — has dozens of references to classic New York personalities, places and traditions, including shout-outs to the Ramones, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, the Village, Chrystie Street, the D Train, Ed Koch, the Knicks, the Yankees, Shea Stadium, the Palladium, Phil Rizzuto, the Atlantic Antic, the New York Post, El Diario, Bernard Goetz, Broadway, Jazzy Jay, Bad Brains, and many others.

The unveiling is part of the year-long celebration of hip-hop’s 50th anniversary and it will be accompanied by the cinema debut of the Apple Original film, Beastie Boys Story at the IFC Center in Greenwich Village on Friday (Sept. 8) and Saturday at 9 and 11:30 p.m. SiriusXM will also relaunch the Beastie Boys Channel on Thursday (Sept. 7) on channel 105.

Bebe Rexha Becomes Only Artist With 50-Week No. 1s on Both the Country & Dance/Electronic Charts

The versatile artist and David Guetta’s “I’m Good (Blue)” logs a 50th week atop Hot Dance/Electronic Songs (dated Sept. 9). (Dating to the chart’s launch in 2013, it’s just the second song to post at least 50 weeks at No. 1, after Marshmello and Bastille’s “Happier” dominated for 69 weeks in 2018-20.)

Rexha first spent a record 50 weeks at No. 1 on Hot Country Songs with “Meant to Be” with Florida Georgia Line in 2017-18. Rexha also co-wrote both that song and “I’m Good.”

“Songwriting is my passion, no matter the style of music,” Rexha told Billboard earlier this year. “I’ve been blessed to have hit songs in different genres throughout my career. Finding this kind of success within both the dance/electronic and country charts is something I’m really proud of. To have my music resonate with so many people and top charts across multiple genres is amazing and means a lot to me, as I’ve never wanted to be put in a box.”

“I’m Good,” released on What a DJ/Warner Records, holds at No. 1 with 26.8 million radio airplay audience impressions, 5.3 million U.S. streams and 1,000 downloads sold in the Aug. 25-31 tracking week, according to Luminate. The collab has controlled Hot Dance/Electronic Songs every week since Oct. 1, 2022.

Among other longevity accolades for “I’m Good” on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, it tallies a 53rd week in the top five (encompassing its entire chart run), tying Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande’s “Rain on Me” and Major Lazer and DJ Snake’s “Lean On” featuring MØ, for the sixth most. “Happier” rang up a record 91 weeks in the top five.

Guetta and Rexha have both now spent a combined 61 total weeks at No. 1 on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart in their careers, thanks to “I’m Good” and their previous team-up, “Hey Mama,” also with Nicki Minaj and Afrojack (11 weeks at No. 1 in 2015). Only The Chainsmokers (82 weeks), Marshmello (81) and Bastille (69) have spent more time on top.

“I’m Good” became a crossover smash upon its release. It spent one week at No. 1 on the all-format Radio Songs chart and topped Dance/Mix Show Airplay for 14 weeks and Pop Airplay and Adult Pop Airplay for two each. On the Billboard Hot 100, the single even outperformed the song it interpolates: It reached No. 4 in January, while Eiffel 65’s “Blue (Da Ba Dee)” peaked at No. 6 in 2000.
